I'm with you on the trashy novels and long baths sunnybump! Another one feeling a bit lonely here, I recently moved across the country to live with DP so don't have any friends in the area yet, and the days will really start to drag I'm sure once my driving test and constant lessons are out of the way. Can't wait for my bundle to arrive.

Glad that you're well sb

Congratulations raindroprhyme on the birth of Seth!

bethylou · 06/02/2010 20:12

I'm sure my posts always sound like I haven't got a clue what's going on cos by the time I've read all the updates I can't remember precisely who has said what (or often respond before I realise I've been so dense as not to read to the end of the thread!!) (And how do I write in bold? My computer just doesn't want me to do it?!) Anyway, keeping on with the positive vibes for all, in whichever direction they are required!
Fizi, I have found I have made lots of new friends through having DS1 so sounds like you have probably moved at quite a good time as you will have lots of things in common if you take yourself (and baby) to a 'Bumps and Babies' type group. Also, I find that having a baby in a pram or pushchair is a good way to get chatting to people out and about in your locality anyway so hopefully both these will help.
Feel less likely to give birth tonight than at any other point this week - MIL must have put some kind of holding curse on me as she has gone to London for the weekend and I am under strict instructions not to have the baby till she gets back!!

Pops78 · 06/02/2010 20:26

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Gosh I am so awful at actually posting though I read all your posts daily and enjoy thoroughly. I am so delighted for all the ladies who have become mummies already - and jealous! I am 39 wks tomorrow and desperate to meet this baby and get it out of me frankly. I am really freaking out that its going to be huge. Saw the midwife on Fri and she said not too concerned by feeling baby but tape does measure big.

I am now looking back at my pregnancy and thinking what have I been eating - one overall conclusion - not very good stuff. I always intended to be so healthy in pregnancy and was in the first month till I hit morning sickness and then found that whatever I could eat I had to eat...when it faded I think that bad habit stayed. Defo too much sugar which I have been obsessed with in pg - very unlike me. God I hope I haven't made my baby humongous and not given them enough of the right stuff. I cannot believe I feel like a bad mother before I am even a mother!

Oh god I sound like a lunatic, I really am losing the plot. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they are in their own world and you kinda know you are being irrational but cannot stop! Either laughing hysterically or crying a lot...

Don't seem to have any signs of labour, though last night I laid down to go to bed (at 2.30am as am having sleep issues with discomfort since engaged especially) and the baby went mental and I mean mental. After a few mins I had to get up and this morning felt so sore.... Convinced myself baby was having a fit...

Sunnybump I love the baths too but cannot get in and out without help as my bump is so massive. With DP working nights (8pm to 6am) he's not around at my ideal bath time :-(

Sending positive birth vibes to all and myself.

Nikki87 · 06/02/2010 21:38

evening everyone =]
ok so have eaten a yummy meal of spicy chilli beef with a [small] glass of white wine, currently eating a huge bowl of pineapple, and hoping my spirits stay high enough to warrent a bit of 'couple time' later. can you tell I'm desperate to get my lovely son out soon? lol. I was 39weeks on friday, so don't think theres too much of an issue of trying to help him out!

hope everyone else is ok, and I'm dying to see who pops next [maybe me... ]

woowa · 06/02/2010 22:31

Today I tried going fast over speedbumps to induce labour. It is VERY uncomfortable and didn't work. Please don't anyone try it out!!

Bethylou have a look at the instructions to the right of the message box for how to do bold, italics, etc. It's very clever - took me ages to work it out!!

Pops, i've never eaten so much junk either. I did have a stage of eating lots of fruit, but this ability to eat as much chocolate and icecream as I like and not get bigger has been too tempting for me. I'm hoping to go off it all when BFing and trying to get body back!! Nice fruit and veg. yum...

39+2 now, and exactly 9 months since date of last period. So I feel like I've done my time!! And I finally felt relaxed enough to let DH take artyish shots of my naked bump(though i had jeans and bra on, as I'm WAY too selfconsious to be naked in front of a camera!), and I have to say, i quite like one or two of them! My cousin said she is really glad she's got some. They won't be framed in the lounge or anything though!!!

Now I need a photo of me with clothes on so I can put one on facebook - the last one I was only 4 months and teeny!

Fizi, we only moved where we live 18 months ago and I do struggle with friends. I'm going to try to go to something regularly, and one person from antenatal seems great. Babies (and dogs) are a great way of meeting people, I think!

Night all!

OP posts:
FluffyCoo · 07/02/2010 09:58

Morning all!

Pops I've been the same with junk as well - during my food aversion phase the only thing I really wanted to eat was KFC... now it's all about the refined carbs and I just can't get enough cake/banana & honey sanwiches (one of the girls from my NCT class reckons this means I'm having a girl...?!) cravings for grilled chicken and salad probably would have been helpful!

woowa my DH has been talking about taking some bump pics too - "just for us" I'm not sure i want my roadmap of livid stretchmarks recorded for posterity though!!! How did you feel about your pics when you looked back at them?

Hopefully picking up the birthing pool from friend today, then a nice lazy afternoon with DH... lovely!

Have a good day everyone x

catinaboot · 07/02/2010 13:22

Hey

pops78 I'm another guilty of reading the posts all the time but never posting. I'm also 39 weeks today and having had a brilliant pregnancy I've hit the weekend and now I can see why people moan.

My list of gripes:
I cannot get comfortable, this is compounded by the fact I've broken my ankle and need to keep my leg elevated, but I want the baby to engage so need to keep my legs below my hips. Oh the dilemma... what would you do!? I go from sitting on my birth ball wobbling around to lying on the sofa with my leg on 30 cushions.
I cannot sleep.
I have acid reflux.
I have (tmi alert) loose bowels!
I have painful trapped wind, that I think is BH and then find out to be wind... oh the disappointment.
Finally I'm so jealous of all the nipple tweaking and sex that's going on on MN. I'd like my baby to appear soon but the legs not out of it's blummin boot thing until 23rd Feb so would be sensible to not try and bring on labour but how am i going to get through the next week or two?

woowa my DH got out the camera to take some pics of me, I crutched up to the place he wanted me, struck a pose, and he decided 'I didn't look my best' and 'I wouldn't thank him'... tar very muchly!

Oh, I feel better already! Maybe things aint that bad after all!

woowa · 07/02/2010 15:24

fluffy i think there is one which is ok! I'm not very good at smiling at cameras (i just look like my mum!) so the best ones are when I'm smiling at DH, not the camera (the camera was on a tripod so DH wasn't directly behind it). Only need one pic though, I think. Now he's going to photoshop out the random junk which seemed to find it's way into the pics!

Nipple tweaking- it just sounds excruciating to me! I can't bear them being touched unless I'm in the mood. But the sorer my feet get the more I want to try anything. . At my church this morning I had several "ooh it's dropped, it'll be here soon" and several "it hasn't dropped yet, it'll be a another few weeks." . And everyone told me how early or late their babies were. Next week I'm not staying for coffee! I can't hear it all again!!! They are all so lovely, but there are only so many times I can have the same conversation!!

catinaboot, you have massive sympathies from me. Hope your LO holds on til you can walk again. I think i'd do what you're doing - swap between elevation and bouncing!!

Right, got to prepare for youth group this evening. sigh.

MarieKL · 07/02/2010 19:05

Evening all

Pops and Woowa I'm so glad its not just me - For the first month I was really healthy but ever since the morning sickness started I've been eating chips, chocolate and coke! I figure if that's all baby is allowing me to eat it can't be too bad

Too all those whose husbands/partners have been taking pictures just be grateful they weren't participating in the 30 day photo challenge my husband took up. He chose the theme baby and then aimed to shot a picture to do with baby every day throughout January. My poor bump has posed with a mini driving up it, jelly beans and post it notes with different professions on it!

catinaboot you have massive sympathies from me as well. Hold on in there!

Positive birth vibes to all and let's hope by tomorrow there are some more arrivals very much on the way!

mawbroon · 07/02/2010 19:52

Crikey, I go away for a couple of days and you guys have gone crazy posting!

IC - glad to hear that you are heading the right way with the breastfeeding. Keep posting if you need any more support/advice. And don't be scared of the breastfeeding threads either, there is some great advice there too!

catinaboot - I am torn between the elevating leg in reclined position and the leaning forward too. I reckon a bit of both might work out ok in the end!! I am finding that all of a sudden, leaning back or lying on my back is making me feel nauseous. I seem to have ballooned in the last week or so and finding a comfy position that suits both plaster cast and bump is near impossible!!

There seem to be a few of you who don't have much company. It might be an idea (although you've probably already done this!) to check out where the baby groups etc are in your area. I spent far too much time on my own when my ds was little because I didn't know anybody. The baby groups were dreadful, but, they got me out of the house, chatting to others and having a bit of purpose to the day. There are also likely to be breastfeeding groups and the like that you can go to. And there's no reason why you can't go to a breastfeeding group before you give birth. Change of scene and all that!!

We spent the weekend at my parents' house. It was nice to get looked after a bit, but I must say that I prefer to do as much as I can for myself. I feel a bit down if I haven't done anything all day. I am lazy by nature, so I have to force myself to do stuff sometimes, but I definitely feel all the better for it!!

bethylou · 07/02/2010 22:31

Woowa thanks for that!! I can do the bold thing now (she says trying to remember to preview the message before clicking 'post'!)

It's interesting to hear that your DH has taken some pics - I have been trying to persuade mine to do so but he doesn't seem too inclined. Either this is because I am generally the photographer in our house (who therefore appears in approximately 10 of the 200 photos I recently stuck in DS1's photo album, and doesn't seem to have attended his 1st birthday party at all!) or because he is marginally more polite than catinaboot's DH and doesn't want to say that it really isn't a good idea for me to have picture taken at this point!! I know my face is huge, so personally think that a photo of the bump that is causing it would be preferable to any pics of my face alone!!

On an amusing note, I got stuck in the kiddie pool today at the local leisure centre - it has a slope to get out and no steps (which I failed to notice when I lowered myself in off the side). My pelvis does not allow me to do slopes at the mo and I ended up trying to do a kind of crab-like sideways manoeuvre up it, much to everyone's amusement (as I can open my legs sideways but not in the normal walking pattern!)

No births reported all weekend? More pineapple/sex etc.. required...

fiziwizzle · 07/02/2010 22:37

Wow, no new babies, been a while since I checked and that has been the case!

Today we went for a LONG walk to try to get things going (even with my driving test tomorrow I would still be over the moon if anything started tonight... In fact, particularly with my driving test tomorrow ). No twinges. Hot curry is on the menu tomorrow evening.

woowa my yoga teacher told me it would be a while yet as I'm still carrying very high... and my MW has been telling me that I'm carrying low. No-one really knows, do they?!

And I am so with you all on the eating junk. I thought that my body would be a temple during pregnancy. In fact I've never eaten so much cake. I don't even have MS as an excuse; I've just loved having a third slice of cake; EVERY DAY . I am going to find it very hard to go back to normal eating habits I think...

I'm intending to go to my first mother and baby group on Friday - well, if I don't actually have one by then, might leave it a week or two in that case ...

flyingcloud · 08/02/2010 07:45

I echo others on the eating habits - as soon as I hit the ms stage I just ate constantly to stave off the nausea and I haven't stopped since. I am HUGE and I can't get over my double chin(s)!

I finally decided - having been a bit reluctant to travel too far from home for the last 3/4 weeks - that DH and I needed to get out on Saturday, especially as he is working a lot at the moment.

So we went to Paris to see Avatar. After a hair-raising hour long journey in the car (we were running late), we arrived and I was feeling pretty sick. DH went to park and I picked up the tickets. Half an hour later DH rang to say he couldn't find a parking space and we had already missed the first half-an-hour of the film so he came to pick me up and we went for dinner. That was a complete disaster - we first went to a Japanese restuarant that served only eel - neither of us felt that adventurous - so we did a runner and then walked around for a while and found another restaurant - which was really disgusting. We had a real laugh throughout the whole evening though, as it may be our last evening out together alone for quite a while and it was just such a disaster from start to finish.

I was kind of hoping that the laughing and bumpy driving would help bring on labour... but nothing.

Long walk yesterday followed by curry last night... still nothing.

I have a week to go before they will investigate induction and I am starting to get scared. A bit pathetic, I know... and I have always been very open minded about labour and not wanting to take in too many pre-conceived ideas, especially for my first as it is so out of my control, but now I am starting to dread it.

I have had zero signs of early labour so far.

sunnybump · 08/02/2010 09:51

Good luck today fizi, (puffy) fingers crossed for you

Having lots of BH here but other than that, not a peep. Off to get my BP/Urine done again in a mo. Oh the excitement!

mawbroon · 08/02/2010 10:46

No signs of labour here either, but I am last on the thread and only just 37 weeks, so hoping to hold off a while yet....

I am on my own all day until after 6pm. I have found a sort of comfy position to lie in so that I can elevate my ankle and use the laptop without reclining but i need to be strict and get off the sofa and get moving. I have to shower, tidy up a bit, do meal plans/shopping list for the week, sort out a couple of admin type things and do some filing. I also need to pack a wee suitcase for ds with stuff he might need if we have to drop him somewhere en route to hospital. No one job is very much, but right now, added together, it seems like a lot....

I also have to do some reading about labour. This whole pregnancy, I have just kind of stuck my head in the sand, assuming I will have to have a c section, but now that labour is a reality, I really need to get my head round it. I just can't get my head round the fact that I am having another baby. Despite the huge bump, the nappies and babygros which I have organised, the hospital appointments etc etc. It must be some sort of coping mechanism I think. I had exactly the same when pg with ds.

hannahsaunt · 08/02/2010 13:46

The cavalry arrived on Sat night and not a moment too soon. Haven't slept so much in years and feeling almost human again. Slightly less terrified of being too tired to give birth. Dh is away tomorrow and the next day so any time after that would be fine .

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 08/02/2010 14:28

fiziwizzle - thanks for the suggestion to look at Spinning Babies - looks really useful. It turns out from having a scan and seeing the midwife that the baby is not transverse - the head is fully engaged and in the words of the sonographer "could come any time now". A relief after being told by the gp that I would probably need a c-section in a week's time - although it would have been nice to know when things were going to start. The baby is lying on my left side curled all the way around with her feet over on my right side - taking up as much room as she can which is normal for second babies according to the midwife. The midwife said it was quite common for second babies to move to the middle during labour so no need to think of a c-section at this stage. I'm just trying to be really conscious of my posture and remember to use the exercise ball.

galadriel77 · 08/02/2010 15:25

Well - hoping things are kicking off!

Been getting Braxton Hicks regularly all morning. And they are more than just tightenings - they are building to a painful peak and then dying away. Coming between every 15 and 6 minutes since 7am. And they are lasting 30 seconds to over 1 minute.

So as they haven't stopped I'm assuming I'm in early labour and hoping it carries on. I did have a very long pre-labour build-up with both kids so this could go on for a few days so not getting too excited.

Some of them have been a bit painful but I've not got my tens machine on yet but might have to later on if they get worse.

So - keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm 41 weeks tomorrow and booked in for a sweep so to already be on my way would be good!

Might not get much of a chance to post later but if it all dies down I'll let you know!

threeplusone · 08/02/2010 15:30

Extrememley.. Glad the baby is not transverse and LOA.. my baby is LOA too.. Panicking abit about the speed of delivery seem as he is inthe prime position and I was so fast with an OP birth.. suppose will find out in the next week or two....
Still 3/5 engaged and getting fed up with the backwards and forwards from the med centre and the hospital. Hopefully will defo have a sweep on friday if nothing has happened before then.
I really want to meet this little man and strat being a proper mum again to all four children!!! I feel like I am not doing enough for my others at the mo, with the resting up etc.
We did have an evening at the hospital with my DD last night as she has hurt her ankle falling down the stairs.. luckily nothing broken..

Sunnybump.. How did you get on today at the check up hope all is ok.

Cant remember who had there driving test.. sorry but how did it go hope you passed.

Re food, the baby will take all the goodness out of everything,..it is like a parasite and will take the goodness from the food or your own stores to look after itself. so dont worry too much. ( I am sure thats what someone told me !! could be wrong though)

Hopefully getting my hair done later, so that the grey has gone before little man arrives..lol. It will be ni=ce to feel pampered for a few hours.
My DS2 isnt too well at the moment bless him he has a cough and cold and it is keeping him awake at night, and then the person who he decides he wants, either, myself DH or FIL.. Fingers crossed we have a better night tonight with him. This is when I am going to panic after the baby, as if I am up all night with one of them when do I catch up on my sleep when FIL will be back in the UK and DH will be at work.. He is also going away end of April till June!!!!! Suppose i will have to get on with like everyone else...lol.

AbsB · 08/02/2010 15:32

Good luck Galadriel.... I hope this it, my fingers are crossed for you to have a nice easy labour!

threeplusone · 08/02/2010 15:33

Ohh Galadreil.. good luck sending you loads and loads of positive labour vibes... (send some real viubes this way please....lol)

Dee2009 · 08/02/2010 16:13

Hi all, Am very happy to announce that my son Liam Gareth Wesley arrived safely on 3rd Feb weighing 8lb 8oz. I was induced on my due date spent 13hours in labour had gas an air and an epidural, and ended up deliveringg in theatre with the help of forceps! I have a 3rd degree tear and am a bit sore, but oh my god he is so worth every bit of pain i have felt and i am the luckiest woman inthe world. Good luck to all of you that are left to deliver, and the pain really is worth it!!

Clappedout · 08/02/2010 16:43

Congrats Dee, lovely news and well done for surviving the rigours of being induced and forceps, hope you feel less sore soon.Great name too!

I have a very sleepy baby who falls asleep after feeding for ten minutes then wakes up hungry, very frustrating! Any tips? He is only 5 lbs so maybe needs to grow some more....

fiziwizzle · 08/02/2010 16:44

Oh congratulations Dee! About time we had another one. Well done you, sending you good tear-healing vibes
