Congratulations mamaloco, BabyGiraffes and MusicalMummyJules, wow! So excited for all of you and a teensy bit jealous, too .

Thanks everyone for the good luck with my driving test, I don't expect to pass, nothing to do with pregnancy I just don't drive very well . But I'd like to give it my best shot so we're not nipple-twiddling too much for the time being. Pah!

Good luck with your appt bethylou.

westlondongirl I've got newborn sleepsuits which go up to 10lb I think, so unless baby is an absolute whopper should be ok... 0-3 would probably be ok too though I guess - does it matter if they're a bit big?!

verylittlecarrot · 05/02/2010 00:49

Congratulations mamaloco, BabyGiraffes and MusicalMummyJules!

I'm 3 days pasr EDD now, which is no biggie except that dd arrived 3 weeks early so I don't think I really thought I'd go on this long. MW offered me another sweep today, which I declined. She seems awfully keen to sweep me . I suspect from my furtling about that my cervix is hiding somewhere around my armpits so a sweep is not likely to be successful yet.

Had acupuncture today to attempt to induce labour - ha! Watch this space...

westlondongirl · 05/02/2010 06:40

Thanks for the advice ladies - will get myself a pack of newborn suits today. Who will be next?! very exciting!

mawbroon · 05/02/2010 08:09

Hopefully not me next. I think I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning and am very irritable.

I have an appointment with the consultant at 9am about my birth options. Will catch up on the thread when I get back.

AbsB · 05/02/2010 09:23

Congrats MMJules - Charlie is such a sweet name! You must be so happy to have him here!!!

I am 37 weeks today and having tonnes of BH... hopefully have a couple of weeks to go though as there still is so much to do!

Look forward to hearing about new births....

stressheaderic · 05/02/2010 09:33

AbsB - I'm 37 weeks today too - keep waking up in the night half terrified-half excited...just when I need to bank some sleep aswell.... Don't want baby to come anytime soon, DP has a stomach bug and our car's playing up. Another couple of weeks thanks!

FluffyCoo · 05/02/2010 10:04

Morning all,

Congrats to MusicalMummy and BabyG! So many babies arriving now - I WANT MINE!!

Finally finishing work today - and not a moment too soon! I'm hoping for a nice restful week off followed by a timely birth, in reality I'm sure the baby will either arrive tomorrow, or keep me hanging till the last minute!

Positive labour vibes to all you fed up overdue ladies!

AbsB · 05/02/2010 10:08

Ha! ha! stressheaderic I know what you mean about sleep! I just wish we could have a week off between labour and being mum to a newborn... a week of sleep and relaxation! Oh well!

Sounds like you're having quite a time of it... talk to your bump and tell baby to stay in until dad stops vomiting!

Fingers crossed both our babies stay in for a couple of weeks... or at least until the 20th when I've planned a super hot curry deluxe banquet followed by hours of sex! (yeah right!)...

Nikki87 · 05/02/2010 10:50

morning everyone :D
congrats to all the new mummies on here, i am so jealous, i really want to meet mine now [im offically 39weeks today, so can't see why he couldnt make an apperance over the weekend.....?]
bethy my bump is so low i have to sit with my knes apart, which is difficult when i have SPD os i know the feeling!
managed to do a lot yesterday tho, have my last MW appointment, and she was very happy with everything, managed to get a little shop done, and even went to ikea in the evening with DP, DM and DF, sadly, no labour signs yet tho =[
good luck with the driving test fizi

and i hope to see more announcments when i log back on later

GuernseyFrench · 05/02/2010 11:06

Samuel John was born on Thursday 4th February by Emergency C section
we are both fine

i'll update you later on

flyingcloud · 05/02/2010 11:21

GF HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you both. Would love to hear all about it, but understand that you probably don't have the time or energy. Hope the emcs wasn't too stressful.

westlondongirl I don't have that much newborn stuff either. I think I have said before how amazed I am at the size differences between UK and France. If I hold up some 0-3 month UK stuff to French 6m stuff they are often the same size!

mawbroon hope the appt went well, I know what you mean about those days though!

My bump doesn't seem that low and I seem to be back to sleeping ok (well, waking up once an hour to pee or with hip-ache, but better than the nights of zero sleep I was having). DH and I had quite, erm, energetic sex last night (well it seemed energetic for me in my whale-like state) and I have been for a long walk this morning. I AM 40W TODAY and while I am not in any hurry I am in fear of going to induction on the 15th.

I know I can put up with this for a bit longer and there are others out there who are finding it much harder than me, but I suddenly feel quite emotional about the whole thing. Gah. Right off to do some energetic house-work, if I can be bothered!

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 05/02/2010 12:09

Hello everyone. Haven't posted in ages but have been reading about all the new arrivals - congrats to everyone and hope all those who are waiting are feeling okay.

At my 38 wk appt today GP said she thinks the baby is transverse - she couldn't feel the head and I'm only measuring 31cm. GP says it's unlikely that the baby will turn at this stage so likely I'll need a cs at 39 weeks. I have a scan at hospital at 1pm today and will be seeing a consultant. Has anyone found they were transverse at this stage of pregnancy and successfully turned the baby? TIA

DorindaG · 05/02/2010 12:12

With a mixture of horror and relief I realised (I mean really realised) that tomorrow is my due date. Ditto on wanting to have him arrive and be here so I can watch the turgby - although in reality I probably wouldn't give a monkeys whether the rugby is on or not once I've had him I'll bet!

He's my first, so touchwood all goes smoothly. My TENS machine arrived yesterday so I spent some time fiddling with that in preparation.
In-laws are over from abroad for a couple of weeks and I think they're expecting him to pop out on cue!
A bit of discharge and a few aches, and he's dropped very low indeed, but other than that nothing yet girls.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 05/02/2010 12:13

Hello ladies!Congrats to all the new mummies!!!

38+5 weeks today and just been for an illegal sweep - I love my midwife! I'm 3cm-4cm now so hoping it won't be long!

Not sure what to do with my poor toddler, he is a nanny's still after my sweep this morning as she paniced when I said I was 3cm and wanted me to go to hospital! Some ladies are this stage for weeks!! I miss him!! I think he should come home tonight....what do you think??

mawbroon · 05/02/2010 13:41

Goodness me! I am having difficulty keeping up with all these births!!

Congratulations to GuernseyFrench, BabyGiraffe, ktpie and MMjules. I hope you are doing well with the new arrivals. if I've missed anyone...

My appointment went well. I didn't see the consultant I was expecting to, but the chap I saw was very nice. Basically, he was happy for me to have a trial of labour and see how it goes. I am at increased risk of rupture at the site of the previous section scar, and my bi-cornuate uterus is also at an increased risk of rupture. He said that because of this, I will need continuous monitoring. My movement will be restricted by the length of the wires on the machine, but I will be able to move around a bit. It's not like I would have been pacing up and down the corridors between contractions anyway because of the broken ankle, so this sounds ok to me.

He did say that if I don't go into labour spontaneously, there's not much they can do in terms of inducing me, because again, this increases the risk of rupture, so if I haven't gone into labour by 8th March (9days over) then I will have a section that day. It's all booked and everything.

Also, he said because of my increased risk, if things aren't progressing well, he said they would probably bail out sooner and do an emergency section than they would normally - fair enough, I understand the risks! He did go on to say that my chances of giving birth normally are around 70% or so, which is not much lower than it would be anyway, given that the section rate is 20% anyway.

So, I am quite happy with this outcome. Basically the broken ankle doesn't really come into it - all my risk is from my previous history. I would have been annoyed if they were trying to pressure me into just having another section, so I am glad that the consultant's plan was much the same as mine!

I feel just now that even if I have to have an emergency section, then at least I will have tried. And I can't do more than try.

I am having a bit of a rest as ds is with my SIL this afternoon. I keep being surprised that I am tired!! I think either a broken ankle or being 37wks pg is tiring without the both of them together!!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 05/02/2010 14:14

Massive congratulations to MMJules, Babygiraffes and GF, wonderful news!! Give you LOs a kiss from me.

Clappedout the weight gain's going well, thanks - we're now back up to her birthrate (she lost 6 per cent in the first couple of days) and continuing to move in the right direction.

Had a bit of a meltdown yesterday 'cos of the struggles with breastfeeding - hospital was very pro breast, but the support they offered was a bit misguided. Also, not surprising I had problems getting Rosie to latch on given that we had no skin-on-skin directly after the C section, then were separated for ten hours (during which I suspect she was bottle-fed formula) - by the time I got her, she was too sleepy to go for the breast. Eventually, a nurse told me to use a nipple guard, which got Rosie sucking (and she does pretty well with it), but now I've discovered they're not really ideal for various reasons, so I'm trying to wean her off it and it's an uphill struggle.... ggrrr!! Not what I need with all the knackeredness and emotions near the surface!!

Still, that's the only problem, really. Main thing is she's healthy and putting on weight, I should comfort myself with that.

Ladies, please send me good breasfeeding vibes! I could use the help. Oh, and any advice would be hugely welcome! I've looked at the stuff you posted Mawbroon (that video had me in tears) and I've been trying the biological nurturing approach but to no avail with my poor nipple-confused baby. Anyone had any experience of this sort of thing? It's totally stressing me out!!

mawbroon · 05/02/2010 14:27

Sorry to hear you are having probs getting her to latch on IC.

I can't remember if I linked to this before? here

I would also recommend giving one of the helplines a call. La Leche League are international and their web page is here My spanish isn't up to much (is in fact non existant!!) or I would find the tel number for you! Failing that, the GB number is here but there is the chance that you won't be able to dial that number from abroad.

fiziwizzle · 05/02/2010 15:43

Congratulations GF on the birth of Samuel. I do hope the EMC wasn't traumatic.

I've had a stab at updating the list although in my present state of mind I should probably leave well enough alone.

fiziwizzle · 05/02/2010 15:50

I am having a really grumpy day too mawbroon, I'm putting it down to a really awful driving lesson this morning and after this I think I'm giving up and going back to bed. Hopefully I'll get out on the right side, later. Great news that you will be able to have a shot at labour . Fingers crossed for you that you don't go 9 days over.

extremely I have no idea about transverse lie, but I know that the spinning babies website is considered to be very good (sorry, can't be faffed with link right now but spinning babies should do it!).

Fingers crossed for you for tomorrow Dorinda. 5% of babies do arrive on the due date, it could be you...!

maryp I've heard that you could be 3cm for some time, I'd have your toddler back home I think.

IC I can't help at all but am sending you good BF vibes - it must be so stressful - but don't give up .

Right off to improve my mood with a nap.

mawbroon · 05/02/2010 15:56

fizi - I am probably the only person here who actually wants to go hideously overdue! Every day over is another day recovery wise for my ankle.

My grumps lifted when ds went to nursery. He was grumpy which I think just rubbed off on me, coupled with the fact that he woke at 6.15am demanding breakfast....

I am fine now. I hope your nap lifts your mood.

woowa · 05/02/2010 16:28

39+1...sigh. bored now. need something to think about, like agony and pain of labour...

Cngrats GF, sorry about emcs too. wishing all you CS ladies speedy recoveries.

OP posts:
stressheaderic · 05/02/2010 16:58

Fizi - next time the list is updated, could I go on it? I post here a fair bit, but was never on the list, out of supersticion, but there ain't no denying it now, this baby's coming very soon!
I'm due 26 Feb - the only one I think, with my first.

watercress · 05/02/2010 17:51

Hello all,

Sorry about the fed-upness and breastfeeding issues, and congratulations to the new arrivals.

I'm booked in for induction on Monday after my consultant appt at the foetal monitoring unit this afternoon. All the way through this pg I have been dead against induction, but now I'm resigned to it and just hope it goes better than last time (though this is at 39 weeks and that was at 42 weeks). What will be will be...

Have good weekends all. I've got a busy one lined up so will check in next week.

Take care all x

Insanitybecomesme · 05/02/2010 18:55
