Lots of hugs and thoughts going to everyone with sad news today

Aussie you had me down as South Bouncing Blueberries so I moved the South over next to London where it should be

Dibbydab · 14/01/2010 16:21

Welcome Tah and anyone else lurking who hasn't waved yet .

Asquash - It's not over until it's over as Girlsyearapart will atest to I'm sure, but big hugs for you anyway sweetie, it must be a horribly stressful time waiting for the next scan.

Can I just ask a question to all you ladies that have had "early" scans (pre 12 weeks) - was this because this is the normal practice with your local authority/trust (whatever they call themselves these days), or was it because you've had a bleed/something to indicate things aren't quite right?

Aussieng · 14/01/2010 16:56

You didn't fancy a name change?

Alicetheinvisible · 14/01/2010 16:56

Girlsyearapart i have been thinking of sparkling water all day! Out tonight with DH and as i won't be having a beer it seemed like just what i fancied.

My friend brought round a giant chocolate cake today which was yummy and i have been tucking into the vieniese whirls maternity jeans may be out sooner i thought

neenz · 14/01/2010 17:17

So sorry asquash . Did they say that perhaps it was just too early for a heartbeat or have they been more definite? Take care of yourself.

When I had an early scan last PG it was because I'd had a previous mc, and they sometimes scan you for reassurance if you've lost a baby before (ring the local EPU for an appt). If you have bleeding they will often scan you early too. I don;t think there are any PCTs which scan earlier that 12wks as routine.

My MS is getting worse - I was back at work yesterday for first time since Christmas and it totally wiped me out. Managed to haul myself in again today but that's it for me, only do two days and I am so glad of it!

babyducky · 14/01/2010 17:40

sorry squash & allthe8s

Im going to try & add myself to the list!

littlemiss72 · 14/01/2010 18:38

Hi all, sorry to hear such sad news from so many in one day! Big ((HUGS)) to you all.

Hope the rest of you are keeping well, read through some of the previous births.. a little freaked out by it all as this is my first.

Terrible waves of sickness today and I swear I could have curled up to sleep in today's lunch meeting at work.

Current fav comfort drink is starbucks hot chocolate, with cream of course lol, I'm going to be the size of house at this rate!

babyduck I have a mac to, your right no hash key..?

Miamla · 14/01/2010 18:45

to the girls on a mac looking for a hash.... press alt + 3 and hey presto

Miamla · 14/01/2010 18:48

i'm getting really scared now. i'm not even 8 weeks yet so i've got ages until the scan. I feel so sad for all the girls who have lost their babies

girlsyearapart · 14/01/2010 19:27

Yes asquash I had very bad bleeding and was certain it was all gone but when I went to the scan there was nothing wrong and I was in fact 7+3 when I thought I was 4.2 so dates can definitely be wrong.

It has to be said that I'm MAJORLY panicking about my next scan even though there hasn't been bleeding like that since.

Whoever asked about early scans? I had one with dd2 as had pain in my side so the GP referred me. Turned out I had an ovarian cyst. This time A&E referred me cos of the bleeding but there was a form to fill in with 'self-referral' as one option so I guess you could just refer yourself. There probably has to be a reason for that though.

Anyway I feel wierd as my phone has completely given up.. Dd2 dropped mine in the dogs water so I've been using another one until I can get another on my contract but that was v old and tied together with a hairband and has now given in..

starshaker · 14/01/2010 19:34

I had my early scan as ive had 5 m/c and it was for reasurance. However it gave me a heart attack instead lol. Have to say im loving the idea of twins now.

girlsyearapart · 14/01/2010 19:38

Well star you wanted reassurance so they gave it to you twice!!

starshaker · 14/01/2010 19:49

Not looking forward to tomorrow cos i have to go for all my blood tests. 1 of them is a fasting blood test so i can eat anything after 9 tonight. Im stocking up cos i know i will feel so ill in the morning

Freezingmyarseoff · 14/01/2010 19:53

Just adding myself to the list. Very sorry to those who've had to remove themselves.

2andcounting · 14/01/2010 19:56

how do i join this thread???

driedapricots · 14/01/2010 20:50

hi all,
just been catching up as don't work thursdays....and what a sad 24 hours on this thread. far too many have dropped off. i'm so sorry for you all

welcome to newbies too...i agree it's a lovely friendly thread! 2andcounting - i think you just joined!

i've cracked the fizzy....water out tonight too - am celebrating as my DH has landed himself a fab job after being redundant for 15 long hard months. the relief is huge as i was seriously preparing for returning to work after just 3 months mat leave (eek!!)

interesting to read all the comments on c sects and feel so much better about my decision to elect for one this time (if they let me that is!!!)

and am also delighted that i'm not the only one seriously considering getting the maternity clothes out again already..i know my stomach never recovered from DD1 but i seriously look about 6 months already.

plus feeling guilty as had a huge craving for salmon pate today- and gave in to it is it all pates we should avoid..i persuaded myself it was just liver based ones and devoured the lot for lunch. how ridiculous to feel guilty for a bit of pate!

2andcounting · 14/01/2010 21:42

but don't i need to paste my name or something on to the bottom- am too tired to figure this out- i know im being bit vague...u all understand im sure- inability of brain to work quite properly!help me please

Rubena · 14/01/2010 21:46

Squash - don't rule it out. Could easily be just your ov was different time than you thought. Perhaps you really are only 6 weeks. I had a m/w appt today (which wasn't really an appt as they want me to do bloods at te hospital first ) but I asked if they could just listen for the heartbeat, and she said are you sure as you might not hear anything and it could worry you if it's too early! I'm 11 weeks! Anyway, she did and we did hear it nice and loud, but possibly wouldn't have at 6 weeks. Bummer about the 2 weeks to wait, however they will need to see the changes etc as the scan wouln't change much 2 days later... fingers crossed for you.

Aussieng · 14/01/2010 22:53

Hey 2andcounting and welcome. Know how that tiredness feels I assume from your name that this will be baby no #3 for you but if not just let us know along with your due due date and (if you want) your age and your location and someone will add you to the list. If you want to try it yourself you just copy the list from the most recent post and insert your self into it but if you're feeling technologically challenged just give your details and someone will add you, I'm sure - we're a lot happier about additions than deletions.

added babyducky - it's one of the few keys on my computer that is still working!

girlsyearapart · 15/01/2010 06:40

morning all.

Up since 5am as dd2 reckons that is a perfectly respectable time to get up

At least they both slept through the night last night. First time in a while- they were operating on a rota basis I'm sure!

Interesting you can hear heartbeat at 11wks. I wonder if my midwife will do that for me on monday. will be 11+3 by then. Bet she won't though had her last time and didn't much like her.

driedapricots that is fab about your Dh's job- what a massive relief. Also just seen you're another Kingston Hospital-er. Did you have your first there?

babyducky · 15/01/2010 08:10

Thanks aussie

Ive been up since about 5am aswell, cannot sleep well at all lately, my nose feels constantly blocked up, has done for weeks!

I have got my booking in ap today

Hope everyone has a good day!

babyducky · 15/01/2010 08:14

Oh thanks miamla

Morning all, and welcome to all the newbies. DS had a lovely lie-in until 7am this morning, so I'm feeling a bit refreshed, though still could have slept for another couple of hours, I reckon. The tiredness is really hitting me now, which is weird because I thought it was supposed to get better the closer you got to 12 weeks??

driedapricots to clear up the pate question... You are 'supposed' to avoid all pates (except home-made non-liver ones) but for different reasons. Liver ones should be avoided because they contain lots of Vit A which is bad for the baby. Other ones should be avoided because they carry a risk of listeria (along with shop-bought coleslaw and potato salad, apparently). But TBH I'm slightly about the whole listeria thing, because the trouble is you can get it from so many things. There was an outbreak near here a couple of years ago where the culprit was ready-made sandwiches (from a hospital cafe, FFS). So I think any ready made food generally carries a very small risk, but for some reason pate is a bit higher than other things. But still tiny, so I shouldn't worry about it.

Quick question for all you second-plus timers: when are you planning on telling your older DC about the baby? DS is currently 2.4, and we weren't planning on telling him for quite a while, but he's going to have to come to the 12 week scan with us, and I'm wondering whether he'll work it out himself - either from that, or when we start talking about it to other people, so I'm now wondering whether it's better just to tell him sooner rather than later. What are other people doing?
