Morning early birds!
Great news on Mr driedapricots job!
elusivemoose, I've 'told' DD already but at 13mths I don't think she has a clue what's going to hit her in 7ish months
Well, the mw was a bit rubbish yesterday wrt cs discussions...I'm even more confused now
It's nearly the weekend! Roll on Saturday...

girlsyearapart · 15/01/2010 08:42

Elusive the dds already know about the baby. dd2 is only 16mo so it doesn't mean anything to her. dd1 is 2.4 she is more interested but it won't really mean much to her until the baby is here or I start showing a lot.

My sister didn't tell her 4 yo ds until she was about 8 months pg!

Rubena · 15/01/2010 08:57

Moose ds is 13 months as well, and only knows what milk, toast, lunch, dinner, no and dada is I think so when my tummy is big I'll tell him baby, but not sure he'll get it. I think if he was older I'd tell him after the 12 week scan.
girls the midwife with ds1 brought her heartbeat listening thing out on the first appointment as well and I was only about 10 weeks if I remember correctly. I thought that was routine? I heard it then as well so I would def ask her why she isn't if she doesn't. it was a totally different area too that I was in.

bouncingblueberries · 15/01/2010 08:59

Morning girls!

Elusive we told ds on Christmas day. We'd told all our really close relatives so felt we should tell him as well. He's 3.9 years and has been asking for a baby brother or sister since he was 2! He's seen a few of little friends become older brothers and sisters, so we decided he understood enough about growing a bump to know that the baby was still a long way off coming. He so proud already and told his whole nursery - something we stupidly didn't anticipate!

Day off today - woo hoo! But the house is a tip and I desperately want to have a good old clear-out. Think I'll make a start after breakfast number 2

Have a good day and big welcome to the new girls!

KayloHalo · 15/01/2010 09:41

Morning

Girlsyearapart you really are an earlybird!!! How ols are your girls (I know you've told us but I honestly can't remember sorry)

Moose my kids are 3 and 4 and we already told them cos they wanted to know why mummy was being sick and why I was always tired. Told them baby was making my body work hard.

Blueberries Can't believe you have the energy to clean up! I feel sorry for poor dh who been having to cook and clean for the last couple of weeks. Think he's feeling a little neglected, awwww

Welcome New Girls - may this be a happy journey for you

I have my very first midwife appointment today, finally , I'm hoping she'll do something a bit more than talk to me about - do I want the baby? was it planned? am I on drugs? am I an alcoholic?
I want her to prod my stomach and say - yes, I can feel something! And maybe even try to find the heartbeat with the thingy they use, although I suspect will just be paperwork and questions.

oh well.

Had to tell dd's and ds's teachers at school about the pregnancy as we're yanking them out of school for a week in June - Had to explain that this was the last opportunity we would have to go away before Pear comes along. Hate having to justify us going on holiday but I understand too - I just feel like they need to know all my business!

Has anyone else nicknamed their little one?
All my babies had utero nicknames - Sophie was my apple, and Rio was my peach

have a happy friday xxx

kaylo... last time we had a Pip, this time we're having a Pea! I love your fruity names!

babyducky... you're welcome!

DS is 17mths. We're planning on explaining things a bit more after the scan. One of his most recent words is 'baby' though, coincidence? probably!

Rubena · 15/01/2010 09:52

what a cock up. Is anyone going to an out of area hospital? I did last time as well (but different GP and different hospital) however had no problems last time. this time however I have the scan booked in etc and a hospital number as my GP was able to send off the referal etc, however the local midwife attached to the local GP won't do any appoinments as she said I have to have bloods done and get notes / paperwork from hospitals attached midwives???? Hospital says that's rubbish and they need to start ball rolling with at least the request for bloods etc or take bloods required and send it on to their hospital! I'm just getting palmed off back and forth! if someone else is doing out of area hospital, can you tell me what procedure has been done so far?

Miamla · 15/01/2010 09:57

i moved house when i was about 34weeks last time. wanted to keep same hospital (it was still our closest one) but it did seem to cause problems being out of area
sorry, no good advice apart from recommending you kick some arse!
Can you enlist the help of your GP?

SmileyMylee · 15/01/2010 10:19

I was out of area for my 2nd (even though we'd only moved about 500 yards!) and it caused no end of problems. It took a lot of phone calls to get agreement on who was going to look after me when I came out of hospital.

Got my booking in appointment today, I wanted to change it as it clashes with school pick up, but I was told if I didn't do now it would be another 8 weeks (despite this being a 'high risk' pregnancy.)

Re names for bumps:

  • number 1 - billy (as we would get loads of bills to pay)
  • number 2 - no idea what we called her! It's funny that you forget these things - so write them down - they will ask!
  • number 3 - his name as we found out quite early that he was a boy
  • this one - Jingle (as we found out on Christmas day)

I've told my DC already as I need some excuse for being so grumpy every morning with MS!

I'll update the list with my location and age (43 and Kent)

right - I think i've got a result, after many phone calls back and forth I am now having the flippin booking forms sent from the hospital to me at HOME!!!! So I can then take them to the bloody midwife locally to do!! My hospital said their procedure is they normally send them to my GP so they are doing that AND sending it to me to cover all bases!!!

Miamla · 15/01/2010 10:59

well done rubena!

liahgenisuptheduff · 15/01/2010 11:01

smiley snap. I too am 43 and kent. Which hospital are you booking with?

Got my booking in today. 9 wks so should be straighforward I hope. No drug addicts in my family,

Freezingmyarseoff · 15/01/2010 11:22

Morning all

Miamla my DD is also 17 months old and her new word is baby! she got a doll and pram for christmas and just walks round the house with them saying baby baby baby all the time.
We weren't planning on telling her until a few months down the line, I don't think she'll "get it" really anyway. We're not going to tell anyone until after the scan.
She was called "pocket" when she was a bump and this one's called "cupcake".
Actually felt a bit sick yesterday for the first time and boobs starting to ache so quite pleased because didn't feel at all pregnant until this week.

KayloHalo · 15/01/2010 11:36

Rubena what a nightmare - well done for doing their job better than them!!!!

Lia My first ante-natal appointment today too

Mylee Liking your nicknames too

LadeyJadey I noticed you're in West Yorkshire, do you mind me asking which hospital you're using? I'm planning on giving birth at Wakefield Birth Centre, hopefully. But may well end up at Pontefract.

Just been chatting babies and pregnancy with a friend who is due six days before me with her first. It is nice to have a pg friend this time

I have updated the list too to put my age on and to take off the random 'e' that has attached itself to Suffolk (i do know how to spell my county) oh and to put my hospital in.

Alicetheinvisible · 15/01/2010 11:43

Oh, and DD was known as Squiggle, then after she was born we used to call her Doodle.

This hasn't got a name yet, but i find it hard to think of it as a baby until i've seen it on a scan. Still paranoid about having twins though!

starshaker · 15/01/2010 11:45

my dd was called bumps and these babies are the bumpettes lol

KayloHalo · 15/01/2010 11:46

Oh god, just thought, if my scan reveals twins then pear would still be ratjer appropriate wouldn't it?

OP posts:
driedapricots · 15/01/2010 13:23

afternoon all

girlsyearapart - my dd1 also thinks it's time to wake up at 5am..fortunately it was DH's turn to get up this morning so i got a 'lie in' until 7am and am feeling remarkably awake today ;)
maybe our paths will cross at kingston maternity unit!

on the matter of telling DD - well i did yesterday but she had no idea what i was talking about..she just nodded, said yes in the right places and looked completely perplexed...i mean how can you comprehend that, i find it hard having actually been through the entire process as an adult!! my sister recommended role playing as if the baby has arrived with a doll for a few weeks prior to the next one's arrival but i think that's a bit extreme

Alicetheinvisible · 15/01/2010 14:09

Started having cramps in the last 2hrs or so like period pains, but no bleeding, so i am just going to see how i get on. Hopefully it is just things moving and stretching. Wish i had a date for my scan though. Should get one soon hopefully.

ElusiveMoose · 15/01/2010 14:40

Ahh, sorry to hear that Alice, but hang in there - I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. God I hate the first trimester, it's such a stressful time.

Thanks for all your replies about telling other DC. Having read those, I think we'll probably tell DS straight after/during the scan on the 26th, so that he doesn't feel left out. (It sounds really paranoid, but I don't want to tell him before just in case we get in there and there's no heartbeat.)

Also, it's probably a good idea to give him plenty of time to get used to it. Blueberries, was it you who was saying that you were a bit worried about how your little boy would take it? Cos mine's just the same - totally devoted to his mummy, and still very clingy (though thankfully a bit better than he used to be), and I rather dread to think how he'll feel about not being the centre of mummy's world any more...

bouncingblueberries · 15/01/2010 15:00

Elusive yes, that was me. It really worries me. He was always a clingy baby and it continued into toddlerhood. He's very confident outside the house, but if I'm around, he just wants contact the whole time. We went through a long stage where I couldn't even shower on my own, so had to just resort to taking him in with me! Most days I get to shower on my own now, but drying my hair and putting on make-up tend to have to involve ds in some way or another. He's my shadow.

One thing I am thinking about is getting ds to help me make a baby book for the new baby - let ds draw pictures about their bedroom and what things we like to do as a family, that sort of thing. Also already been thinking about a gift from the baby - if I can justify the cost I reckon one of those kid-proof digital camera's would be great. Then ds can help his dad take lots of new photos of the new baby!
