AnAngelWithin · 10/01/2010 08:30

30ish hope you are ok.

sk sorry you couldn't make the scan. Hope it is rearranged soon for you

Pigley, glad your sofas got delivered!

RE cars, we have a zafira. much better for boot space cos the rear 2 seats fold into the floor. Note from DH, Don't buy an espace!! He used to work there and they are renowned for faults!

I have been awake half the night again unable to breathe and this morning I have got a stinker of a cold. AGAIN.... Only jst felt better from the last one this week!! How on earth can I have ANOTHER cold??

OP posts:
Yorky · 10/01/2010 09:00

Just bookmarking as haven't been on in a few days and have loads to read to catch up!
Had scan on Friday and all is well, hope people's New Years are getting off to a good start

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 10/01/2010 10:01

30ish glad all ok, hope you don't get more pains though.
Piggleychez very jealous of your new sofas, I hate ours. Only had them 3 years though so too soon to get new ones.
SK such a shame about your scan, are you re-booking. Already chatted to you on FB about my lovely grand espace. I think all cars have certain faults, we choose ours knowing it would be more expensive to fix than a toyota, but we love it, even if it overhangs most parking spaces at the back!

memorylapse · 10/01/2010 11:35

sorry to hear you missed your scan SK..whart a shame..have you rearranged?

We had a Zafira and loved it..but when eldest daughter kleft home we got rid as couldnt justify having it.Bought a citroen berlingo in the summer for my business, its all signwritten up etc as I wanted a car/van type thing...kids love it as the back seats have 3 full size seats and bags of room, so plenty of room for 3 car seats...DS1 never comes anywhere with us, so we are not getting another 7 seater

LuckyC · 10/01/2010 12:23

30ish - how are you doing? Sounds like a really scary one.

My friend Justyna just had a (totally gorgeous) little girl after a marathon 40 hour labour. In the photos, her DH looks shattered and totally overwhelmed with emotion and she looks cool, calm and collected. What a star!

Den26 - I would definitely mention to MW, though apparently it's not uncommon. My book says sit down if you think youp;re fainting, so you don't fall. I have sat down twice in checkout queues

Pigley - how impressive is your sofa delivery company?? We have given in and ordered a (boring cheap practical) Ikea sofa, finally giving up on our beanbag sitting room furniture - yes, I am 35 and have beanbags. They are pretty funky, but they are beanbags.

SK - shame, so sorry about the scan!

From here on is the wittering of a woman trapped in her house - feel free to ignore:

Boiler guy came this morning (he must have felt like Superman coming to the rescue, could have fallen to my knees and kissed his boots) and boiler needs to be replaced. Landlord is a notorious tightwad so how long we are going to be without heat while the managing agents try to chisel some cash out of him I just don't know. I am not very sick, though, just a little cold and not a big shivery achey fluey cold, which is a bonus. Am so nervous every time I get a sniffle about what it could develop into. It's killing me. Probably going to have the vaccine just to stop the anxiety.

Wish I had my own house/boiler. Wish I could decorate a room for the baby exactly how I want it. Come on the lottery win.

Oh, and I have chosen a doula! Anyone else doula-ing?

Den26 · 10/01/2010 13:31

Hi All,

LuckyC - thanks for advice, will speak to MW about light-headedness.

Pigley - glad to hear you have your sofas, we're having new ones delivered next month - can't wait!

Angel - sorry to hear you have another cold, hope it doesn't amount to anything, try to take it easy and put your feet up for a bit - easier said than done

I've uploaded 20 week scan pic for anyone who wants a peek

Off on training course today for a week so will catch up when i'm back take care all

schipo · 10/01/2010 13:48

Hollyoaks - happy birthday ! (today right? hope it's turning out nice for you)

SK, I'm v disappointed re your scan too.

ML, your business looks and sounds really fun. Especially to someone who works in IT Still though, can see that must involve plenty of anti-social hours, working when everyone else is relaxing. Don't really envy you that except that it's only going to make childcare easier isn't it?

I've just begun to appreciate what a problem that's going to be. Hadn't really thought beyond nursery years but after talking to a friend considering returning to work after a long childrearing break she's got me wondering happens to older children if both parents work. My mother was a teacher so problem never came up when i was growing up. I guess you'd have to find a very special childminder to entertain a 11 year old or be lucky and find a nice club..? Hmm... maybe dh and i will have to both work part time..

LuckyC, interested to know why you chose to have a doula. I only know one person who had one, and I think she's about the only one birth I've heard of recently that wasn't a long drawn out event so I am a bit tempted. Not sure though if it would just give me something else to worry about. Also they're expensive aren't they?

Commiserations to anyone stuck in the snow. I had had enough of it after 5 days of being 'home' over xmas. Was v pleased to get back to london. We do have an ice rink on the side roads and pavements though. I'm very tempted by Vicky's shoe claws but hoping this is going to be a fluke, that it will end soon and we won't see again for another few decades.

Hope headaches and flus clear too, and ouch 30ish! hope your baby can be gentle with kicks!

memorylapse · 10/01/2010 14:09

Scipo...I love what I do but its hard work too..as during the week is spent chasing contracts (I have 3 websites, one specifically aimed at the party market, one for corporate and one for training, special commisions etc)...Im constantly marketing, booking freelancers and sorting out invoices.
Then I do weekday bookings too and training courses and Im always working weekends so Im kind of feeling like I dont get any time off at the mo. I wouldnt be able to do it though if DM didnt have the kids at weekends, as DH also works weekends...it certainly makes a change from nursing though!

Angel...hope you get over your cold quickly

brightredballoon · 10/01/2010 14:12

Hi everyone

I dont want to tempt fate but I think we have warmed up a bit up here, the snow looks like it is disintegrating a bit and its not as cold.hooray!

great news for all those with recent scans, sorry you couldn't make it to yours SK. Den have a nice training course

peakyispreggers · 10/01/2010 16:11

Hi everyone,
Im 27 and expecting my first baby on May 24th, had our scan last week and spotted the testicles straight away! Was convinced it was a girl, hopes of pretty names and dresses dashed! Really excited now though, am glad we found out, and now that i have stopped puking, am enjoying it more.
Im a medical student, so have the stress of finals coming up, moving house, along with a year out, so will be a pretty full on 2010!
xx

ForcesSweetheart · 10/01/2010 16:58

Glad your scan went well yorky and sorry you didn't get to yours SK

Re sofas, we bought new leather ones just before xmas as I didn't fancy having a baby with reflux (if she follows DDs example) and a fabric sofa. On tight budget so bought really cheaply from tesco direct and while they look good - they are pretty uncomfortable. Seat pitch is too narrow, need about another 6 inches of depth to them. Should really have returned them but couldn't face the hassle of being without any sofas (had freecycled our old ones before these were delivered!) while waiting for new ones, and couldn't really afford to spend more, so stuck with them for now.

Lovely news about your mate LuckyC Part of me is jealous of people popping them out this month as I wish Molly was here already - but then I reconsider when I remember what a pain it having DDs birthday (this Tuesday) so close to Christmas.

Welcome aboard peaky - have added you to list below.

Hollyoaks- Happy Birthday!

SK- about the scan.. something to look forward to though.

Lucky- You will be glad of your sofa when your huge! Getting out of beanbag with a huge full term bump is not easy and not very elegant either!
Hope your boiler gets sorted soon and Congrats to your friend too.

Den- Lovely clear pics

Peaky- Welcome

Been thinking names today and finding it so hard!

Re kicking- Being told at the scan that baby os Breech explains so much! can feel the head as a hard lump under my ribs and am feeling really hard kicks down low as its feet down. It better turn soon as the kicks are only going to get stronger the bigger it gets and they already make me flinch! DH can feel them really well and has too said ill be black and blue by the end!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 10/01/2010 18:35

Hollyoaks - Happy Birthday! Hope you've had a great day

SK - sorry you weren't able to make your scan, are you able to reschedule?

Den26 - lovely scan pictures!

Even more snow today here and more forecast. It's my birthday tomorrow but all plans on hold for now I think!

DS (feels a bit weird typing that) is still kicking lots but it feels very low down, like he's jumping on my cervix. I remember DD doing that as well. I'd forgotten how lovely the kicking is though!

Very jealous of your new sofas Pigley! Ours are really old and the cat has torn them to shreds

mollybob · 10/01/2010 20:05

Hi all - sorry I disappeared for a while - work crazy and mega tired

Lots of news and scans - ours is on Tuesday but might not find out sex - if I spot it only as against policy - will be getting growth scans after 28 weeks so will probably find out then. My mum desperate to start shopping!

Sorry for your losses pamela and congrats den - will look at FB re putting faces to names (rachel mck)

kateyjane · 10/01/2010 20:32

Sorry just a quick post, as still have the headache from hell. Can't look at computer for long! Thank you Forces I think it must just be hormones. I had a headache in Nov/Dec which didn't seem to go for weeks - got codeine phosphate prescribed as well as paracetamol, however neither of them seem to do anything DH let me have a sleep this afternoon, which was lovely (though the ironing is still waiting now!)

Welcome to Peaky I'm so glad I found MN and all the May ladies

There are some lovely scan photos on FB - Sorry you didn't get to yours SK, hope it is rearranged soon.

I know it's unreasonable to want another snow day tomorrow after last week - but can't face the thought of work, so I am hoping.
Hope everyone had a good week

wibblela · 10/01/2010 23:01

Hi All

Welcome Peaky as kateyjane has said - I'm so glad I found MN and this thread, it has been really good to chat on here about things.

We've had sleet this evening, which is melting away a lot of the snow. However we will most likely get more snow in the night.

Been monitoring my blood sugars after each meal, and they all have been fairly normal. Aside from one, but that was because I took the blood from the side of my palm less than two hours after I had eaten. Didn't find out that would skew the results till afterwards.

You all sound busy! I feel so so lazy compared to you lot Been stuck indoors atm - both DH and I still have colds. Not got any energy for going out. Even though the snow chains for our pick-up have turned up, we've not been able to test them

Felt baby kicking the other night - from outside! First time My bladder has been found - it gets frequently pummeled

Morning all

Scan rescheduled for Saturday

I think this one may have turned upside down because the little kicks I was feeling near the exit are now under my boobs, I suppose they can spin round as there will still be room in there right now plus my uterus will be a bit stretchy anyway.

Good news is a little of the snow has melted here, hope more melts today. Cannot really go anywhere as the cars wipers still not fixed, am taking it into the garage on Thursday as DP is off then, he starts his compressed hours this week, 4 days a week but with the hours he does he will actually be in the office and home at the same time as well as having a day off. He's taking a Weds off usually so to break up my week of school and nursery runs. I did the ironing sitting down last night which felt weird but better than standing. Stairs are getting tough need to remember one at a time, hang onto the rail and good leg first

Forces - so you are definite about Molly then? We have a name in mind but keeping it a secret just now, we don't tell anyone in RL the name until after the baby is born, hate all the comments you get with people trying to put you off. Molly is lovely. DD1 wants to call the baby Lola, DD2 Dora

welcome peaky and congrats on having a boy, you have a lot going on this year for sure

LuckyC - I was thinking about a doula but I figure having done this a few times the birth and BFing I can cope with, the other DC will be fine, it's the house that will suffer so am going to get a cleaner and ironing lady, figure that will be a better used of the money IYSWIM. We don't have any family to help out, well SIL but she is an hour away and works away from home a lot. Last time I think she got here with 20 mins to spare when DD3 was born, luckily a friend was also here in case the other 2 woke up or we had to go to hospital.

I have to admit I have blanked the birth bit from my mind at the moment and the arrangements for it, suppose there is plenty of time.

Angelwithin - thanks for the car advice, have discounted the Zafira as it won't get 3 car seats across the back comfortably so would need to go two and two which means no boot at all. Going for a proper 7 seater with individual seats as am fed up battling with seat belts, then I can take one of the back ones out completely.

Right need to get off here, take some Zantac which is working less and less and get some work done.

LuckyC · 11/01/2010 10:15

schipo About the doula - I have always been a bit more mental block/ freaked out by the idea of childbirth than anyone else I know. Like, once someone was telling us all in graphic detail her birth story and I had to go upstairs and throw up. DH is very D but nearly passed out the last time we were in a maternity ward (to visit a friend). So between us, we're pretty pants!

I just thought having someone to practise with beforehand and advocate for me on the day would really help.

And post-natally she's going to come round 3 times or so for a few hours to help out - this for me is just as important, as I don't have close friends or family around as we're still quite new to the area.

All told it's going to cost me 400 quid (!!!) but I have already worked the overtime to pay that bill and I think she will be completely worth it.

pigleychez · 11/01/2010 10:24

First bump- Ive attempted to invite you... let me know if it doesnt work.

SK- good news about the scan reschedule.. Hope you make it this time
I know what you mean about childcare arrangements during the birth.. Guess ill worry about it nearer the time as like you have no family nearby.

Feel so drained and exhausted today. Spent most of last night in tears after another episode in the ongoing saga/arguements with my mum. DH says no wonder I have high blood pressure!

Venturing out today in the snow as DD's swimming lessons start back today. Not looking forward to getting in my costume again- Not a pretty sight and I really hope the pool is warm!!

itshappenedagain · 11/01/2010 12:13

morning all!

pigleychez- Ds lessons started back today too, we ahve come backa nd had a nice hot abth after the walk home, everyone in the class now realises that i am pregnant and got a few strange looks when i was getting into the pool, think i will also have to invest in a new costume as this one wont fit much longer! could you possibly get some sleep this afternoon to make youa bit less exhausted? or go to bed when kids do?

im off to go and take Ds to nursery school now and then catch up with a weeks worth of housework that i couldnt do last week with Ds home.

AnAngelWithin · 11/01/2010 12:56

sob....my doggy is dying Be luck to get another 6 months with her. Here we go again, so much for it being a better year.

Hope all is well with everyone else. Sorry I've not read the recent posts, I'm kinda preoccupied and can't read proplerly through bleary tears.

OP posts:
Yorky · 11/01/2010 13:10

LuckyC - really interested in your doula, and there is no way we can find that amount of free cash so just hoping this one is as keen to get out as its older siblings! One of the ladies on Nov when I was having DD had a doula for her vbac and can't say enough nice things about her.

Hope everyone gets their boilers fixed - now is not the time for stingy landlords
I know what you mean - whoever was saying about wanting to decorate the nursery, am going a bit mad in Ikea atm getting DS a new big boy bed for when he's finished potty training and co-ordinating rugs and curtains and bedding - anything that isn't paint really
Haven't nested like this before, DH thinks its quite funny but he's getting batter at saying after the kids are in bed "What do you want to do this evening?" instead of sitting down and watching star crap!

Just got back form dentist (DS was SOO good, [proud mummy emoticon]) and my teeth are falling apart

Yorky · 11/01/2010 13:12

MrY says dows anyone else want to join in on the secret Stork, he suggests April 1st for posting as its easy to remember - unless we want to do it earlier, and the deadline for getting your names to him about a month before?

On a totally different subject - if your mw had any training in complementary therapies would you prefer it to be homeopathy, reflexology, or something else?

Vicky204 · 11/01/2010 14:12

Angel so sorry to hear about your dog, it's heartbreaking to lose a pet, I've spent days crying when we lost ours and I'm going back years now but still remember how upset I was. Thinking of you, you'll have to just focus on LO now, to try and take your mind of it.

I'm joining the band of May mums who's boilers have bust. Some of the pipes are leaking water, and everytime heating and hot water comes on it trips all the fuses upstairs! Thankfully gas man coming out tomorrow, can't believe they're coming quite so quickly! Fingers crossed they can fix it though as I'm sure out boiler and heating system is antique its so old!!
