Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sweetkitty · 01/02/2010 16:05

Quick message from me, completely echo the hatred of pregnancy which is mad considering this is my fourth time, I echo what everyone else has said, the heartburn, the bump, the SPD, the swollen nether regions, piles, hormones, just as well they are worth it really, my goal is when the baby is out and we are both fine and I know I never have to do it again.

Had a terrible day yesterday, SPD was agony so took 2 cocodamol which just spaced me out and made me feel sick, went to bed at about 9.30pm last night. DP was out at a friends birthday so I tried to do things with the girls who were really misbehaving, DD3 worked out how to climb on the dining room chairs so fell off naturally and DD1 was an emotional wreck when things weren't going her way Argh!!!!

Prams - think we are going to get a Vibe, would love an iCandy Peach Blossom but they are £700 and although they look fab for newborn and toddler I don't think they would fare well with 2 hulking toddlers as much. P&Ts are robust and they hold their value well. I will have 22 months between DD3 and DS so will need a double sometimes. I think even if you have the best walking toddler it's a different ball game when you have one in a pram, one walking or on a buggy board who decides their legs are tired and walks at a snails pace or it's cold and raining. Sometimes it's just easier to put them both in a pram, strap them in, raincover over and go. The good thing about P&Ts is they go from single to double depending on who you have with you IYSWIM. I remember being out one day at DD1 and 2 in the P&T and DD3 being carried by DP! I have had a M&P side by side, a Graco tandem and a P&T and although it still has it's faults the P&T won hands down.

memorylapse - the Ice Pilko is lovely

welcome clouddragon

memorylapse · 01/02/2010 16:33

forces..sorry to hear your BM,s have gone mad..if its any consolotation, once I was on regular insulin..I started to feel so much better in a matter of days

littleowls · 01/02/2010 17:52

Hobnob - It must just be my first time round enthusiasm. I do hate the heartburn and the sore hips etc but I think this is outweighed by the fact I am still amazed that I have a little tiny person growing inside of me. Like others have said in the last week, I am feeling nervous about what happens when little pat arrives and I might not know what to do!

Mustbemad - I applaud your stamina! 1am!

cupcake - I have discussed the colour with DH and I have decided on fudge or mulberry. I have asked DH on several occasions which colour he would like and he has shown little interest! He doesn't like the licorice colour. It probably will be fudge in the end!

Newmomma - have you been on this www.spinningbabies.com website? This shows positions to sit in daily which can help baby move into a birth friendly position.

Forces - sorry to hear that you are really suffering.

sweetkitty - Definitely must be me being overly enthusiastic, will I be this enthusiastic 2nd time round? Hearing other's stories and how others are feeling, I must be very fortunate.

Memory - LOVE your bump painting, I am so impressed! What a pretty way to celebrate the bump x

Welcome cloud dragon x

I have had a tiring day at school, it is surprising how thoughtful 4 year olds can be. Although they wouldn't let me have a sleep this afternoon!
Getting new carpet for the baby room. It's a green colour - like grass. I thought it would be good for when little pat is bigger and may want to play zoos or farms etc(must be the teacher in me!)hehe. x

ponyness · 01/02/2010 18:03

Hi there, thought I'd introduce myself and say hello, if that's okay even though it's quite late at this stage! I'm due on the 29th May with my first (although the first scan dated me on the 24th which I think is the more correct date but hey ho..).

Had a horrible horrible horrible first trimester but am enjoying this part of it. Felt Spod (as we're calling it) around 16 weeks which has been lovely. Everything else is going okay apart from getting a massive outbreak of cold solds, currently have 3 so am looking very lovely at the moment!

Hope that everyone is doing well.

Carikube · 01/02/2010 18:03

Littleowls please don't let us miseries dampen your enthusiasm! I didn't enjoy my first pg either (though was amazed and excited at the thought of a little person growing inside me), but I think you either love being pg or don't - my cousin would be permanently pg if she could as she enjoyed it so much (she had 3 dc) whereas I tolerate it (though I do enjoy rubbing my bump and missed it after dd was born).

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/02/2010 18:24

Forces - good to hear from you. I had just logged on to post to ask if anyone had heard from you, as had been thinking that I hadn't seen you on here in a while. I hope the insulin starts to make a difference soon.

I had my fasting blood-sugar tests this morning, and should get the results in about 5 days apparently.

Littleowls I think I have first-timer over-enthusiasm too! So far, I haven't felt any different to normal (apart from the growing bump & boobs and feeling the kicks). I wonder if the potential negative symptoms are being suppressed by the euphoria at the knowledge that I'm about to have a year off work! However... I am not quite at the third trimester yet, which is supposed to be when everything gets worse, so I'm not expecting to get away scott-free, and am waiting for the horrors to kick in at any point.

Does anyone think we should maybe start a fresh thread soon for everyone's third trimester? Not sure what the etiquette with that is, and don't want to tread on any toes. My computer is starting to struggle to cope with the length of this one!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 01/02/2010 18:26

p.s. Welcome ponyness - looks like you joined while I was typing my post (which took ages because I had to keep minimising the screen whenever someone came into my office!)

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/02/2010 18:33

Hi Ponyness, welcome. I've suffered from coldsores terribly in this pregnancy (and the last) I'm sure it's a deficiency in something or other! are you taking any pre-natal vitamins? I'm sure iron helps a bit.

I hope you're all ok, sorry I haven't really caught up on thread it's just moving too fast for me. We're due a new one soon though, eh? might be a bit easier to follow then!

All fine here, no change expect to say that my pelvic floor is knackered after last time and so now the baby's starting to get heavier and sitting on bladder I'm suffering accordingly. Hips and bump quite achy with spd but apart from that I'm doing ok. We may have even settled on a name! Still haven't bought literally a single thing, but starting to look at pushchairs, think I'll be getting a chicco multiway, as they look really cosy and have great reviews all over the web.

I have an appointment with the anaesthetist and a midwife on weds to discuss the birth and my pain relief options, which should be fun.

schipo · 01/02/2010 19:20

Sorry to all the ladies suffering, but I'm with Littleowls & Marquise and pleased to read I'm not the only one's enjoying all this. It must be first timers enthusiasm, or beginners luck. I've got off really very lightly so far, and what symptoms I do have I'm really enjoying. I put a lot of it down to having left it so late too. I'd made up my mind not to have a baby, so once I changed my mind and found it wasn't too late after all, the novelty of all the changes are really just exciting. But yes, I'm not sure my luck can last that long either. No doubt there are plenty of interesting developments that can happen yet.

Marquise - also interested in your choice of pushchair. Very like neat and lightweight like the Bee but without the curved lines. DH refuses to consider pushing a Bee because it looks he hates its curves, so Urbo might be a good alternative. ATM though a second hand cameleon looks favorite for us. So far though (after having a nightmare about the baby arriving early and having nowhere to put him) I've got as far as ordering a sling from ebay.

I really do sympathise with the sciatica sufferers btw. That I do know about. I've been almost crippled with it in the past, but mine was self inflicted: too much clumsy stretching. Learnt to exercise my way out of it though - strengthening deep core muscles which takes pressure of spine. Took ages though. Half expecting it to return towards the end of pregnancy though, so fingers crossed.

Mustbemad - have you had your 3d/4d scan yet? I've been doing more reading and realise it shoudldn't really be left too late - otherwise the baby is too squashed to be seen I guess so, that's another thing I need to organise. There are so many places offering them in London its difficult to decide where to go. Any suggestions welcome...

Welcome btw Ponyness

Hobnobfanatic · 01/02/2010 19:21

Littleowls - don't let us dampen your enthusiasm! Like Carikube says, you either love pregnancy or hate it. Sadly, I seem to be surrounded in RL by people who love it and seem so blardy happy for me all the time! I just want to moan about how awful I feel and how I know the next three months are going to get even worse!

But even my miserableness can't stifle my excitement when I think of actually holding the baby. THat's the fun bit - and well worth all the nine months beforehand.

peakyispreggers · 01/02/2010 19:24

Hi everybody,

Just been catching up on everyones news from the weekend, forces glad you are back and hope you will start feeling a little better soon.
MDM thanks for the cot info- Will be pasing it on to DP - his job! I loved the look of the Urbo too, but we ended up getting a skate this weekend. Saw one brand new in the box on ebay for 230 quid and picked it up yesterday - was such a massive bargain that although the lady had quite a few in her living room and said her husband had got them "through his small business", the dodgy nature didnt put me off!
There is no separate pram which is a good space saver.
welcome ponyness and cloud dragon!
mustbemad hope you had a good night out! I did too, but only once i was out after a massive teary tantrum at not being able to fit in any of my clothes. Cue isabella Oliver website binge yesterday.
We had a lecture from a consultant obstetrician today, so I asked lots of personal questions very poorly disguised as general ones!

Yorky · 01/02/2010 19:43

littleowl - love your name, it was mine when I helped at Brownies! I like being pregnant too! Could do without the heartburn and sheer knackered-ness but LOVE feeling baby move, especially the early little movements when its a secret shred between me and baby. When I was big with DS I played the flute at church and was always terrified he'd kick me in the ribs during a really high long note!

Hollyoaks, DS was 3 last weekend and still sits quite happily in our double buggy, or on top of the pram, when I want to walk somewhere at my speed! I am trying to use the single with buggy board more to get hi used to being more active but he walks so slowly.

Hope your blood sugar settles down forces, glad your feeling better now ML

Hello ponyness, if they hadn't moved your date we could have had twins! Although my date was originally 22nd and they moved me to 24th, I hope they're right as DH's cousin is getting married on the 15th!! At least she's a GP and there'll be lots of medically friends at the wedding!

V of everyone buying prams and pushchairs, DH would have a fit if I collected anymore - our garage looks like a buggy park! We have 5 if you include the bike trailer, which can work as a buggy too!! Still trying to talk him into a first stage isofix seat and base

AnAngelWithin · 01/02/2010 20:01

Hello all. Time to try and catch up! We are going to need another thread soon at this rate!!

Peaky hope you ordered something nice!!

Ponyness and clouddreagon, welcone to the thread, I hope you are well.

SK hope you are feeling ok despite SPD, and you forces. Poor things! Lots of rest and get everyone to run round after you!!

Marquise I was thinking about that, but I would feel a bit naughty starting a new one seeing as it was me who started this one, so I shall leave it to someone else!!

ML, I hope you have got your diabetes under control now.

I really feel for sciatica sufferers, my DH had it really bad to the point he couln't pysically get out of bed and had to leave his job as it was a manual job. And he was only 27 bless him

I am enjoying this pregnancy more than the others, partly because I am just more relaxed now I think, and I haven't felt quite so rough this time around.

My dog is on diuretics now for fluid on her lungs Infection hasnt cleared. Yet mentally, shes still pretty alert. Makes it harder.

Pram has been collected today. I love it soooooooo much and can't wait to be proudly pushing it around. We got the silvercross sleepover with the linear chassis in the ebony colourway. think thats the right link!! You can't really see on there, but its got a lovely swirly pattern on it. DH has been pushing it round the house haha. We also got a maxi cosi car seat. MIL gave me £100 towards everything, and so did my nan, so that was great, and much appreciated with the vets bill to pay for as well!!

Had midwife appointment today, all is good, baby measuring 27 weeks instead of 24. Gulp! All ok otherwise, just waiting for my consultants appointment on the 25th feb now to see if i can have my HB!!

OP posts:
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/02/2010 20:16

Nothing wrong with being enthusiastic about being pregnant! Someone has to bloom (it's just never me!) lol I think it's just second or more time round your body's that bit more knackered and you're tired from dealing with existing kids so you feel the bad stuff a bit more keenly.

sweetkitty · 01/02/2010 21:11

Oh I love all this pram talk, I would be a bit of a pramaholic but DP keeps me in check, I think this new one will be no10 for me but I hvae had 4 babies so that's not too bad lol.

I love the skate and will have to have a look at this Urbo everyone is talking about.

littleowl/all first timers - sorry to be an old misery guts, I do like the idea of the little person growing inside of me but the SPD especially makes it hard for me to enjoy it, plus having other DC to run around after, I feel they get a rough deal a grumpy Mummy but hopefully being due beginning of May means by the Summer hols I will be fully fit again.

Been looking at people carriers again and like the look of a Citroen C8, going to see one on Wednesday.

Am waiting for my £190 maternity grant to put towards the pram. I have an old Maclaren XT and a M&P Lunamix just now, the Lunamix can have a carrycot so am thinking maybe for the garden in the Summer (if we get one).

Am also sorting out architects to look at our extension, am I mad to be thinking about an extension with a baby oh and 3 others?

angel - sorry to hear about your dog

james - I joke my pelvic floor is on the floor, no joking I have to make sure I go to the toilet a lot these days or one good cough or sneeze well you know the rest it only gets worse as well, right now I think this LO is tranverse but as soon as he turns and you get the head bouncing off your bladder

ponyness - hello and welcome pull up a chair and don't be shy, we are a chatty bunch

what about "Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?"

AnAngelWithin · 01/02/2010 21:21

sk i beat you hands down in the pramaholic stakes....i think this one...is....ermm.....

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 01/02/2010 21:31

@ angel, DP curbs me or I would be worse

no more pink ones for me though

littleowls · 01/02/2010 21:42

Sounds like there are some proper pram experts in our midst! Any advice is appreciated. I am going for the icandy cherry because it is so light and I am a bit of a weakling, I'm worried I won't be able to hoist a heavier pram/pushchair around!

Thanks everyone, it seems we have a wide variety of opinions on the whole enjoying pregnancy issue. PLEASE remind me of my enthusiasm at the end of april/beginning of May when I'm complaining like a real 'un!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 02/02/2010 07:55

Welcome Ponyness

I do enjoy pregnancy although I don't bloom and feel rubbish most of the time. I just love feeling that there's a little person growing. Having said that, pregnancy is one of the things that would put me off having another most.

My pelvic floor seems a bit knackered as well

newmomma · 02/02/2010 09:36

Morning all.

Have been thinking about hospital bag (early I know, but only THINKING! hehe).

My son was born last January so I brought him home from hospital in several layers including a big fat snow suit.

Am a bit unsure as to what I will need to pack to bring home DD in April/May. Obviously if its cold I still have the snow suit but should I pack a coat/cardy...? in the event thats its warm?

Sorry to ask such a ridiculously obvious question!

Oh... and anyone heard of clary sage? People keep mentioning it and I'm not sure what it is used for?

x

rachelfruitloop · 02/02/2010 10:19

I can't believe how big this thread has gotten (in just the 2 weeks I've been on it!), it seems to be reflecting the growth of my belly! SK, I love the title "Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?" for the next thread, that's exactly how I feel! I'd start a new one but don't want to be a cheeky newbie!

I love all the talk of prams and pushchairs, wish I could participate, but am sticking with my good ol' Maclaren Techno XT that I used with DS1. He'll be 3 around the time this baby is born, and he's very good at walking on his own (thank goodness!) We had to get him strong on his feet early as he's so big, he barely fits in a pushchair anyway. So that had been my and DH's ongoing project for the past 9 months or so.

Memory, I LOVE the photos of your bump painting on the Facebook group! You look lovely!

Forces, sorry you've been suffering. I hope the insulin helps you feel better.

Angel, so sorry about your dog, hope everything's manageable for now.

For ladies enjoying pregnancy, I have to say that I absolutely loved being pregnant with DS1, I felt great, really energetic in the second trimester, never got sickness, wasn't too moody. This time around is the complete opposite - people told me that every pregnancy is different, and that is certainly the case for me (that's why I really thought I was having a girl, but it's another boy, go figure!) I think it is true what some others on the thread have said, you just don't get as much rest the second time around so that contributes to not feeling so great. Also, perhaps because some of the novelty has worn off, it's not as enchanting. I remember when DS1 was born, thinking that I knew losing sleep was going to be hard but didn't know how hard those first few weeks would be until we went through it. This time, I know what we're in for and I'm bracing myself!! I am enjoying feeling all the kicking now, and do feel much better the last 2 weeks or so. Probably will enjoy it until I get so huge I can't walk! Just grateful I don't have SPD (touch wood) I feel for you ladies suffering with it!

SK, I'm considering changing my nickname to Lady Tena!

Welcome Clouddragon and Ponyness!

Newmomma, my DS1 was born in June and I did put him in a cardigan a lot when we went out. Usually vest/trousers/socks and a cardie. Also, I think Clary Sage is meant to be good to balance hormones and encourage labour. My aromatherapy book says it's "strongly sedative with euphoric effects" but says use with caution as it can cause excessive bleeding. Think I might try a bit in my hospital bag for a room fragrance. I really like the way it smells!

brightredballoon · 02/02/2010 10:32

Hi everyone

There's been so many replies since I last posted I can't keep up, sorry I feel bad for always apologising. RL quite busy so not getting chance to check the posts regularly.

Hope everyone is well.

marquise yes feel free to start a new thread, this one is nearing 980 which means it will go soon anyway.

Love the pram talk, we are looking into a new one but I probably dont need one until late summer as already have an old Phil and Teds sport. Totally agree with SK about being easier to strap them in sometimes, infact I wish I could get a 3 seater so DD (4) could jump in too! Takes so much longer walking with a slow walker!

Gah just looked out and the snow falling this morning has settled and there must be a good 2 inches on the ground and its snowing again now. I am sooo fed up with snow its unreal!

I am loaded with the cold, been trying to steam my face to clear my sinuses but not having much effect, will need to go and get some more lemon and ginger tea bags, they helped last time.

newmomma clary sage is an essential oil you can put in your bath or rub on bump or put in oil burner, they say not to use it until due date as can bring on labour. I tried it with DD though and cant say it did anything but lots of people say the opposite!

joymaker · 02/02/2010 11:23

Hi everyone i'm 25+5 due on 14 May with my first baby thought it would do me a power of good to head into the 3rd trimester with some additional chums

Hollyoaks · 02/02/2010 12:00

Hi all

Welcome Joymaker and ponyness

BRB - dd woke up this morning and feels cold to the touch but clammy, very clingy and sleepy. Hope its just the start of a cold but she fell out of her big bed last night onto a pillow and now I'm thinking she's got concussion. Someone please tell me this is just me stressing over my pfb. Hope you feel better soon.

Enjoying pg - I'm enjoying it now I'm well into the second trimester (23 weeks yesterday) but I hated the first 16 weeks. Starting to get excited about seeing lo and wondering what flavour we'll get, especially now that their jumping about so much. Also panicking about labour as although I couldn't describe the pain I know it was bad [scared emotion]

Pelvic floor - its not a problem now but I remember coming home and taking off my underwear to get in the bath and I wet myself on the bathroom floor . Thought I was totally incontinent from that moment on but it all went back to normal within a few weeks, thank God.

Angel - sorry to hear about your dog

sweetkitty · 02/02/2010 12:09

hi everyone, snowing here as well, well it has stopped now not too bad hope it doesn't freeze overnight though.

Clary sage - erm my experience - I went 12 days overdue with DD2 and did everything I could to try to budge her. Bought the clary sage from H&B and you would have thought I was buying crack cocaine the woman totally advised me against it as it could bring on labour I was about 40+5 at the time thats the point. So started a regime of double the dose in the bath, massaging it into the bump and the corresponding reflexology points on my ankles and it did nothing! Well apart from DP moaning about the smell. I think it's supposed to be used in labour if contractions are slowing.

Hollyoaks - you are not the only one, after DD3 was born I wet myself, full bladder and just couldn't hold it

newmomma - I think a babygro/vest/cardigan/hat and wrapped up in a blanket would be fine

rachelfruitloop - you really cannot fault an XT, that's what DD3 is in just now, so easy to fold, you can get some lovely sheepskin liners to make it all cosy for a newborn too
