Hollyoaks · 11/01/2010 16:16

Thanks to all for the lovely birthday messages, had a nice day, actually had some visitors and got spoiled by dh. No nappies for the entire day (though dd made up for that today by filling two for me ) and lots of cake and chocolate.

Angel - sorry to hear about your dog, I cried loads when my dog went to live with a relative when pg with dd as she wasn't trust worthy around children.

Den - enjoy your training course. I often get light-headed and sometimes find it hard to focus but it tends to be put down to very low bp.

30ish - hope your feeling better.

Peaky - welcome to the thread, sounds like a busy year , though as always wanted to go to medical school.

heffa - happy birthday Hope you don't mind but I updated my age and did your too.

SK - bad luck on missing your scan, however at least its rebooked. Are you going to tell your MN mates what names you have picked? We were thinking of maybe Evie or Grace for a girl, gone off Matilda atm.

Hollyoaks - I love the names evie and grace, those with lily were my girls names. Really struggling with boys, thinking ethan, noah, jonah, finn.. not sure! Happy birthday btw!
Anyone else sharing name ideas?
Im not sure which alternative therapies would be good as this will be my first birth, maybe reflexology, but who knows? I might be running up and down the corridors swearing, with the midwife running after trying to get at my feet!
Anyone else considering waterbirth? anything to avoid tearing. ouch.

myfirstbump · 11/01/2010 17:23

pigley - no joy . Maybe try adding me as a friend first? Up to you really... If the universe doesn't want me in the group who am I to argue??

Angel, big hug coming your way. Thinking of you lots.

Peaky - our current winners are Oscar and Darcey. Oscar after a grandfather somewhere along the line, and Darcey just because it's the only one apart from Lucie we can agree on. Girls names are hard!!

Haven't thought about how it's coming out yet! (Actually still getting used to the idea it's in there... you'd think I would be by now with all the wriggling and kicking!)

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 11/01/2010 17:42

Pigley - sorry you're still having a tough time with your Mum

AngelWithin - really sorry about your dog

Hollyoaks - glad you had a good birthday, thanks for updating my age!

I've had a rather quiet birthday since we're still snowed in and DD's been really poorly. Poor DH was up most of the night with her and she's been pretty bad all day. Hopefully nothing serious, we think just a bad cold but she refuses to take any Calpol so it's a bit stressful I do have chocolates and Lush goodies though so can have a nice bath in a bit.

Love some of the names! We have one in mind but tend to keep it quiet to avoid comments. We've liked the same boys name for ages and can't really get my round around using anything else now.

pigleychez · 11/01/2010 19:14

Firstbump- Tried adding you but when I search your name it says no results found!? How about you try adding me? Cheryl Higgins. This is all very odd.

Angel- Sorry to hear about your Dog They really are part of the family arent they.

Yorky- No idea if my MW is trained in anything else. Here you dont have the same midwife for the birth to the community mw you see at your appointments. At the birth you could get anyone.

Vicky- We had our boiler changed in April when we moved in. It was something out of the ark! We couldnt work out how to work so called a plumber guy out who basically condemend it as it was so old and dengerous- It was slowly leaking carbon monoxide! Of course we had it changed immediately but could of done without the huge bill 2 weeks after we moved in. Makes you think though if we hadnt called the guy out then and was using it loads over this cold snap then would we be very poorly with CM poisoning!?

Heffa- Sorry to hear about poorly DD, hope shes better soon. Enjoy your bath though, sounds lovely!
Thanks for the comment about my mum- Its one of those ongoing things that I doubt will ever change. Things come to a head every now and again which causes lots of drama

Re names- Were Currently thinking either Emily or Holly... But im so indecisive so im sure they will change numerous times!

Was all ready for swimming lessons back today only to find out that DH had gone off to work for the days with my keys accidently in his pocket! Thankfully he only works 15mins away so darted back with the keys. (Wont be so easy when his office moves to London in April!) We missed about half of our lesson though so only got about 15/20mins of lesson by the time we got there and negotiated the rural drive up to the posh boarding school where our lesson are.
Got home to find that I had forgotten to lock the front door in my haste too
Thankfully everything is still here

Truely worn out now! Early night me thinks!

myfirstbump · 11/01/2010 20:39

Pigley, that's so weird! Just looked at my privacy settings, and they were on the highest one for some reason... I searched for you but I'm not sure which one you are!

Heffa, in RL we don't tell anyone our names for that reason. But somehow it's different here... The boys name we've picked has been that before we even planned a family so we can't imagine that it will ever be anything different. There are 5 babies due at my work in the space of about 14 weeks, so hopefully noone else gets there first!

An early night sounds like an exceptionally great idea! Sleep tight.

Yorky · 11/01/2010 20:53

Peaky - I'm hoping this will be my third home waterbirth, I can't imagine giving birth on dry land as it were! Would recommend to anyone (In a low risk pg, with baby in correct position at correct gestation etc etc!)

The reason I asked about mws and complementary therapies was because I'm thinking of training as a mw when I'm finished having kids and wondered if studying something like homeopathy/reflexology now would look like I had been preparing for it rather than just sitting at home being baby brained and MNing for years! Can't realistically afford to be a student until DCs are in school and we're not sure this will be the last one, so looking a bit ahead yet. Am also looking at doing the breastfeeding networks peer supporter course - anyone had any experience of it?
Might start a thread about it if I remember later but I'm supposed to be writing the DCs thank you letters not playing on the pooter atm

Gils · 11/01/2010 21:16

Hollyoaks and Twentieth happy birthday.

Angel so sorry about your dog. I don't think unless you have pets you fully understand what its like to loose one. I was heartbroken when my dog died. Just spoil him now.

Birth I would like to try a waterbirth. DH cousins have had them and highly recommend. I went to hospital very late with DD, quite a good labour by all accounts and only had couple puffs of gas and air so have been thinking about trying it. Its 1st come 1st served @ Stirling. Think they only have 1.

Names girls we like Molly Emily Olivia, Sophie, Grace there are loads
Boys, Aiden, Daniel, Lewis. Still not decided on anything. DH loves Ewan but our surname is McGregor and struggling with peoples reactions already.

Rant time - I fainted at work today and was sent home only to discover DH has sore throat and got my mum to look after DD, before she left managed to turn house into tip. Been feeling terrible all day and all he can do is moan. Went to docs at 6 tonight and BP fine, going for bloods in next few days. As soon as I got in car he said since I got clean bill of health can I do bath bedtime tonight while he lies on couch. Came down to find him on sofa with duvet playing call of duty on playstation. Not a single toy been put away or dish washed. So angry. Suggested I take tomorrow off, I thought for me to rest, but its so he can do nothing. Think no matter how I feel in morning would rather be at work. He works away so would normally love to spend time the 3 of us but he has really annoyed me now. Refusing to clean anything

memorylapse · 11/01/2010 22:23

happy birthday to TCH and Hollyoaks

im feeling a bit down today..dont know why..been crying lots for no particular reason..keep feeling faint too..think Im anaemic

Angel..sorry to hear about your dog..pets are like extended family and its heartbreaking when something happens to them...

MinnieMummy · 11/01/2010 22:35

Hi all, LuckyC I used a doula last time, DS (first baby)'s birth was high-intervention at hospital, DD's was home water birth with doula and it was sooooo much better even though it took over 50hrs start to finish (no, really!!); for me it just really helped to have someone there who believed I could do it (although of course she wasn't there for the entire time!!). I have been contacting some locally for this time round, thought I'd found one but one of her own children has been badly hurt and so she can't commit to us any more. The doula uk website has good info.

at your DH for you too Gils!! Rubbish!! Total case of man flu!

wibblela · 11/01/2010 23:08

Gosh, there is so much to reply to, and this is only a quickie as I have to get some sleep, but my thoughts are with you Angel We only have small rodents, but I cry like a little girl when any of them die. We recently have had 3 pet rats, and it was so sad when they died. They were in some ways like a dog - full of personality and very loving. I agree with Gils spoil your dog now whilst you can...

Hollyoaks · 12/01/2010 10:11

Gils - I think COD has caused many an argument between husband and wife, I'm an Xbox live widow most nights.

Yorky - it would have to be homeopathy for me, but thats only because I can't stand having my feet touched. Had about two weeks before dd was born and it was really tickly but also gave me loads of painful contractions (didn't know then reflexology can do that!).

ML - sorry to hear that your feeling down, blame the hormones. I had a distressing dream a few nights ago and it made me feel awful all day.

Birth - I wanted a waterbirth in hospital last time but when I actually went into labour all I wanted to do was stand up and rock so the pool idea went out the window. Pleased as I would have had to get out towards the end anyway. Would still like to try again this time though.

Carikube · 12/01/2010 10:50

Yorky I don't know about complementary therapies but my MW (who saw me through pg and then did the home visits for the 10 days after birth but wasn't actually my MW for labour) was specialised in babies' skin and I found that really useful as she was able to offer a lot of helpful advice that I hadn't got elsewhere.

Birth - I started off with a waterbirth (though I was kneeling in the pool and it was only then that I realised how sore it can get kneeling on the hard surface for a long length of time - I'm going to take an inflatable pillow next time for my knees!) but had to get out to be examined as they didn't believe that I could be fully dilated already. Once out, I nearly fell asleep on the bed and couldn't be bothered getting back in again Just as well as I ended up being transferred to hospital (was in MLU); am hoping that this time it will go more smoothly and I can stay in the water the whole time...

itshappenedagain · 12/01/2010 11:51

morning all!

GILS- you have much more restraint than me..i would have damaged someone who had done fuck all when i was sick too.

ANGEL- sorry to hear about your dog...we ahve had many and have been so upset when they have died. thinking of you.

YORKY- my MW doesnt do any complementary therapies, however i can do reflexology, as can a couple of friends. i would ask at the hospital if they do any or what the properties of each are. then again as we get closer to due date massage may be a good way of releiving aches and pains, i know it helped with DS.

lots of us thinking about water births, wonder will they have enough pool space. May is apparently a very busy months around here ( merseyside) im just hoping that they have space for me at the hospital. i have been considering a home birth, like the thought of water birth at home then climbing into my own bed...if all went well. plus Ds's birth took 3 and a bit hours and i have been warned to get to the hospital quickly. the only problem with my paln for homebirth is my astma, have to go and see a consultant at 30 weeks for him to agree to it! last time all he wanted to do was get me induced asap.

LuckyC · 12/01/2010 12:29

Hi all, just a quick one for those with faulty boilers who may need to replace - the scrappage scheme -
If you have a G rated boiler you are eligible for £400 off a new A
rated boiler in a government supported scheme (some energy companies
are also matching the offer, eg British gas). G rated boilers are those with the
lowest energy rating, they are mostly over 15 years old, have a
permanent pilot light, or are oil fired and over 25 years old.

For more information see a useful Which guide

www.which.co.uk/advice/boiler-scrappage-scheme/index.jsp

or the official website

www.boilerscrappagescheme.co.uk/

and Angel shame, it is SO awful to lose a pet, mourn them like family. Glad you have some time to prepare so to speak.

wibblela · 12/01/2010 15:48

Hi All

How are you today ML? I was bad the other day, and it wasn't much help when someone said "oh it's probably all hormonal because you're pregnant." Whilst it is probably true, I was still feeling shit and didn't need to hear that! Did you get a hug off someone? Also hope you're chilling... Feeling faint is not a good thing!

How is everybody else?

I too am for you Gils at this case of man flu! Such audacity!

Apparently I have no choice when it comes to this birth - because of my pre-existing conditions I have to have the baby where the docs are rather than at home or at the MLU (which is much closer). Not sure even if I want a water birth, or if they'll let me! Want to make sure baby is ok but don't want birth experience to be over-medicalised...

ForcesSweetheart · 12/01/2010 15:56

Happy birthday for yesterday Heffa sorry your day wasn't the best. Hope your LO feels better soon.

It's DDs 4th birthday today but party's not til weekend so nowt special planned. Let her open one pressie this morning and she took a Hello Kitty cake to nursery, rest of pressies saved for after nursery. She's so excited about being 4. She said to me this morning, "now I'm 4 I'm not going to be naughty any more, coz 4 minutes on the naughty step will be sooooo boring!" I give that about 1 day!

SK Personally I think Lola's a great name - good choice SKDD1! Yes we're settled on Molly. I know it's really high up the top 100 and so will probably be common as muck with half a dozen in her class, but it's the family connection we like so sticking with it.

Gils Have you contacted your doc or MW re the fainting??

So sorry about your dog angel it's a really tough thing to go through, I took to my bed and cried for days when mine passed away. Try to enjoy what time you have left together.

yorky 1st April seems fine to me for posting Secret Stork.

I don't know what you lot with broken boilers are complaining about - it could be worse - my virgin box has gone on the blink The engineer came out yesterday and put a new box in, taking along with old box about 60 hours of Peppa Pig and Little Princess we had recorded (DD was not impressed when she came home). Went to try and find her Charlie & Lola from the Catch Up TV On Demand thingy instead and found On Demand isn't working with this box so am waiting for the engineer to arrive AGAIN with ANOTHER new box. Come back Sky, all is forgiven! Bl**dy Virgin won't let us out of our 1 year contract without paying £136 though so stuck with it til end of June.

ML Sorry you're feeling low. I blame the hormones, I burst into tears after slamming the phone down on the Virgin fault line last night. DH must think I'm losing the plot!

Have just taken a bit of video on my phone of MollyBump trying to kick her way out of my midriff - hoping this means she's going to leave my poor cervix alone for a bit.

Got rescheduled foetal heart scan tomorrow, as well as bloods to be taken and an appt with the physios for my SPD so really hoping this predicted snow stays away or at least is driveable.

MyFirstBump found you on FB so have sent you a friend request in the hope it helps you find the group.

gils and hollyoaks I can totally sympathise. I'm an ARRSE widow (ARmy Rumour SErvice - like MN for squaddies) Trying to prise DH away from his laptop for even 5 minutes is a nightmare. He better buck his ideas up before this baby arrives as with a CS i'm going to be totally reliant on him to care for the house and DD1 during recovery.

Carikube · 12/01/2010 16:41

Ooh ForcesSweetheart DH and i have been thinking of switching to Virgin from Sky as they sent through a really good deal; however we don't know anyone with Virgin TV to find out whether it's any good or not. I take it from your post that you wouldn't recommend switching?

brightredballoon · 12/01/2010 17:45

Hi everyone

for those with low blood pressure maybe worth getting your thyroid tested, I had similar symptoms when pregnant with DS and blood tests showed I had a pregnancy induced under active thyroid. They didn't treat it but at least gave reason for my fainting episodes.

SUEY hope you are ok, its been a while since you posted.

SK great news having your scan rescheduled for Saturday

Angel sorry to hear about your Dog.

Caribuke my inlaws have Virgin and have had a few problems with boxes and remote controls, other than that I dont know anyone else with Virgin.

Gils/Yorky my DH is a PS3 fan so know the feeling !

ML hope you are feeling a bit better now? I am finding myself over analysing things and being a right worry wort over everything. I cannot make a decision at the moment and feel quite emotional too.

Nothing else going on here, got a MW apt tomorrow (am 24+3) it wasn't supposed to be until 26wk but I felt 10wks was a long gap between appointments!

memorylapse · 12/01/2010 18:48

glad Im not the only one feeling hormonal...I cnnt beleive I actually started blubbing when I had to phone the self employed tax helpline yesterday (they werent very helpful)..must get a grip!!! I think a lot is generral overtiredness..agree re: thyroid issue..I felt dreadful when preg with DS2, kept passing out and feeling dizzy..turns out I was hypothyroid...have been on throxine ever since..
I know my TFT is stumbling a bit too as have just had my thyroxine increased so thats probably not helping.

cant beleive Im 24 weeks today!..I did a gestational bump paint today and although the lady was 30 weeks, my bump was bigger than hers!!!
Ill upload some of my bump paintings to the FB group, for anyone interested

Gils..cant beleive your DH..what a selfish arse..sorry

Suey...havent heard from you in a while..hope you are ok

Hollyoaks..I find I have more vivid dreams when pregnant..not nice.

BRB..I dont seem to be able to make a decision either..Im either crying..or dithering over something!

Forces..my DH is scared of me at the moment I think...Im always the same when pregnant..fine for a few months..no pmt..everyone breathes a sigh of relief..then comes the weepiness..then the low flying object stage..then weepiness again

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 12/01/2010 19:57

Thanks all for birthday wishes. DD seems a bit better now but it's been a difficult day. She didn't sleep at all last night even in our bed and looked awful this morning, really listless We took her to the GP and apparently she has a nasty cold combined with an ear infection in both ears and a very high fever. Luckily she seemed to perk up this afternoon and is now drinking fluid and taking (some) medicine so hopefully she'll be better tomorrow. It's the illest I've ever seen her so I've been a bit panicky all day.

ForcesSweetheart - happy birthday to your DD

Sorry to everyone struggling with hormones, it's a horrible feeling. Mine have been a bit haywire lately, and dreams set mine off as well Hollyoaks.

sweetkitty · 12/01/2010 21:07

hi ladies very sore with my SPD tonight so off for a bath after this, not much else happening here really, went to toddlers today to be told by everyone I am getting big (erm thanks)

Forces - happy birthday to DD, DD2's is in 2 weeks, can you believe they are 4? I registered her for school yesterday, she will go in August when she is 4 1/2 (Scotland remember) don't think it will bother her though, she thinks she is DD1's twin as it is. Molly is a lovely name BTW, D(D)4 won't be a Lola, our surname is very short and harsh so we tend to go for longer 3 syllable names to balance it out a bit. We have an Abigail, Talia and Bethany already.

I booked my 25 week MW appt today, for 2 and a bit weeks from now when I am 27 weeks as they have no spaces, just as well I am low risk.

ML - sorry you are feeling a bit down, I kind of go through phases, I suffer from bad anxiety and pregnancy doesn't make it any easier.

Heffa - oh your poor DD, ear infections are horrid in wee ones, hope she is on the mend soon

Re births: my first was 4h20m start to finish, second 2h30m and third 1h35m with about 40 mins of contractions didn't even push her out. I have never had a waterbirth, my contractions are usually so fast and come on so fast theres never been time, I cannot move and have never thought about the pool TBH. With DD3 I was curled up in the foetal position on my v shaped cushion (godsend recommend one loads of uses) until I felt her coming out. I am hoping this time to deliver during the ad breaks at Corrie seriously though one of my worries is that I am here alone with the girls and it all kicks off, DP works about an hour away and it might be so fast he won't get back in time. I get no twinges no warnings nothing. The day before DD3 was born I was on the trampoline getting the other two to bounce me to try and get her out!

Angel - news about your dog been there too so understand how you feel.

Right sorry if I have missed anyone I am off for my bath now night all x

kateyjane · 12/01/2010 21:50

Well now I'm back at work I'm so tired and still got headache! (sorry for moaning)

Angel I'm really sorry about your dog.

Heffa I really hope your DD is getting better, poor thing.

ML Hope you are feeling happier How is all your unpacking going? Your bump paintings sound lovely - wish I had a nice bump to paint! (My is surrounded by flab and scars )

Birth - I wish my 3 had been like yours SK, mine went the opposite way! My first I only had backache, I got to the hospital and had her in an hour and a half - they didn't have time to fill the pool! My second was induced and about 5 hours, had to be on a drip so couldn't move as much which drove me mad! Then my 3rd was text book, about 20hrs but perfectly timed contractions etc.. Can't imagine what will happen this time?

Forces I love the name Molly - we can't have any names ending in Y, because of our surname, which is a shame. Our other DC's are called Eleanor, Charlotte and Benjamin, so we kind of have to go for a long name. We have decided on Florence Elizabeth for a girl or Edward George for a boy. I was really disappointed when I read the name predictions for 2010 thread and both of them were mentioned!

I've got my scan tomorrow at 21 weeks exactly, really looking forward to seeing LO, but can't help feeling nervous. Going to try and see if I can tell which flavour he/she is, but doubt that I will see anything! Haven't convinced DH to find out.

Really sorry if I have missed anyone out. I didn't mean to ramble on, my brain is a bit pickled tonight!!

Hope everybody has had a good day

Wibblela Sorry, forgot to add this. I know you can't have your LO in the MLU, would that have been HRI?? If so does that mean you'll have to go to Calderdale Royal consultant led unit? That's where I had DD2 and DS and it was still a lovely experience. I know they have combined the womens and children's services, which seems mad for such a large area! Better just check, you are in Huddersfield right? If not please ignore my ramblings!

Hi All

kateyjane I love your names - very classic and elegant. forces DS1 was going to be a Molly if he had been a DD. We have gone with Sophie Mae if this one is the predicted girl, so was a bit to see that it is now no 3 in popular baby names for 2009 - means she will be one of about 500 in her class at school no doubt!

angel I am so sorry about your dog. I remember when our dog died I was away at Uni and my Mum rang when I was in McDonalds to tell me that she had had to be put down (the dog, obv, not my Mum!) and I just sat and blubbed into my McChicken meal - never been able to eat another McDonalds since. Although that's probably no bad thing.

I hope all the poorly children are getting better. All of the people suffering fainting/light headedness, I'm pretty sure that that is something to do with blood pressure in pregnancy - is it related to when you get up suddenly or change position after a long time? I think I read somewhere that that can cause change in blood pressure that can cause lightheadedness? Or that may be rubbish that I dreamed and now think is real (this happens quite a lot. I once dreamed that Gary Linekar had died and rang my parents, told DH about it and they all believed me until it wasn't mentioned on the breakfast news at all, and then he turned up alive and well on the football ).

Gils/Yorky I empathise with the game playing. DH has just bought a new game, and been playing it for 2 hours tonight. It is like being in a war zone, all the bombs and guns going off. The funniest bit is when he plays online with his work mates and they all talk like American soldiers on their headsets - v v tragic!!

Well, all is well here. Wrote my formal letter to work this week setting out my mat leave dates 9th May 2010 - 8th May 2011 but have 25 days holiday to take, so last day in work 31st March . I have also requested a staggered return to work, as my Mum does all our childcare (I know how lucky I am) and by the time I go back she will have DS1 and DC2 and possibly one of my DSis's as well, so to help her out I am going back two days per week until the summer hols, then DSis will be off work as she is a teacher so will go back three days, and then once DS1 settled at school will go back to 4 days in the September. Also asked to change hours to work 8.30 - 4 with 30 mins lunch rather 9 - 5 with an hour's lunch, so I can try and be home earlier to help with homework and do tea as at the moment I don't get in until after 6pm which means I miss loads. Anyway, all confirmed today by work and they gave me the lot!! Am feeling v v lucky and v v pleased with employer being so flexible.

Other than that, all is well chez Towers. Starting to feel a bit breathless, loads of kicks and wriggles, and the heartburn has kicked in with a vengeance, but all good signs of a growing baby!! Not really thinking about the birth yet but had such a good experience with the epidural last time will probably go for that. Too wimpy for a home birth - I want all the doctors on standby!!

Take care everyone - sorry for marathon post and to anyone I have missed.
