ForcesSweetheart · 07/01/2010 16:06

Congrats on your news of a girl FIAABN

Omeprazole is a godsend. I was on it for years because of acid reflux from a hiatus hernia (haven't had any heartburn since gastric bypass tho so haven't needed it since). I was on it all through my pregnancy with DD and never had any heartburn.

gotta agree with SK re the potty training. DD has been dry both day and night since 2y 3mo but it was incredibly labour intensive for the first months constantly running to loos in fear of accidents. I'll be in no mad rush with this LO!

sorry you're feeling rotten wibblela hope the anti-biotics sort you out.

Mummymunchkins · 07/01/2010 16:32

Thank you kateyjane and sweetkitty.

So sorry for your losses pamelat.

Carikube, which antacid do you get on prescription? and does it work well? I got gaviscon with DS1 but for DS2 they told me they could no longer prescribe it and gave me so called equivalent but it did'nt help at all and had to go back to buying gaviscon and you are right it costs a fortune! luckily so far haven't had too much indigestion compared to DS1 and DS2 but can feel it starting a bit!

AnAngelWithin sorry to hear about your pain I have found with this pregnancy that I pull my stomach muscles very eaily, I don't even have to be moving that much and get very sharp dragging pain.

Sorry to hear you could't have your scan Forces.

ForcesSweetheart · 07/01/2010 16:51

mummymunchkins did you have a CS previously? I have been getting so many pulling pains, especially when I cough/sneeze/move too quickly and I put it down to adhesions from my CS.

Mummymunchkins · 07/01/2010 17:07

Forces no I haven't had a CS but I do seem to have very weak stomach muscles now and get these horrible pains that stop me in my tracks when I move sometimes, I don't even have to move that much. It does just seem to be when I move not when I cough or sneeeze. I didn't happen with DS1 and DS2.

FIAABN congrats on another girl. I am happy to be having another boy but would love to have a girl

Carikube · 07/01/2010 17:52

Mummymunchkins I was just on Peptac but I had industrial-sized bottles and had regular doses throughout the day. If I took it regularly even when I didn't feel like I was getting heartburn, it helped keep on top of it. I certainly didn't find that Gaviscon worked any better so gave up on that the minute I got Peptac free on prescription...

Sweetpeasmum · 07/01/2010 18:35

So sorry to hear your news Pamelat, hope all goes well with the funerals.

I've just been for scan number 2 and all's well, thankfully. We did want to find out the sex but the baby had its legs crossed. She did think it might be a girl as there was no obvious little boy bulge. So, I'm getting a surprise whether I like it or not! I have another scan at 37 weeks to determine the lie so we might be able to tell the sex then.

Good luck to all those having scans over the next few days.

Hobnobfanatic · 07/01/2010 18:44

Mummymunchkins - I've been getting similar recently. Like a burning, stretching stitch at the top of my bump. Trekking up hills in the snow hasn't helped! I've guessed it's nothing to worry about - hope so!

Rural here and completely cut off with the snow. Another day off school tomorrow - which is a pain when you're self-employed! I work from home, but when LO is at home too, I can get nothing done. I'll be bankrupt by the end of this cold snap!

wibblela · 07/01/2010 20:10

ML I do see the Asthma nurse, although I had to instigate it yesterday, they didn't suggest seeing me. I think it is because I have been so well controlled for a bit, and DH is really hot on Asthma (had it since he was 4!) Peak flow has been on the low side recently, but when I did it in the surgery yesterday it was about normal - mind you she did note that it could be false as it had only been an hour since I had taken my Ventolin. I think she did the right thing getting me to see the GP, will have to see if he was right or not now!

Has anyone else noticed that LO is a stickler for good posture? Or is it just mine? Whenever I am not sitting 'just so', baby kicks until I move! DH hasn't felt anything yet, think because I am big and because the placenta is anterior..

It's so good that there are so many MNers on the FB group - as had been said on there it's nice to put faces to nicknames

memorylapse · 07/01/2010 21:51

Wibbela..give it 48 hours on the anti biotics then and then go back if you still feel wheezy.

Ive noticed that bump doesnt like me lying on my left side in bed..I get angry kicks until I move...she also doesnt like me curling up on the sofa..as I speak shes pummeling my groin trying to get me to move!

I have my fetal heart scan tomorrow at 12.45

brightredballoon · 07/01/2010 21:54

Hi everyone

Just checking in, nothing new here except like the majority I am sooo fed up of the snow/ice/freezing weather. My car said it was -12c when I went out this afternoon

Sorry to hear of your losses piglez such sad news.

I got appointments through for DD (nearly 4) and DS (just 2) to get pandemrix vaccine next week. I had a hard time deciding if I should get it and now am faced with the stress of making that decision too. Has anyone else's children had it?

Re: potty training, I am with the wait til their ready gang. DD seemed very aware of what she was doing and would take her nappy off after a wee and always go to the potty for a poo from about 22months but DS is 2 and shows no interest at all so I will wait until next summer to attempt it (if he's ready).

Has anyone heard from Suey lately? hope she is ok

Gils · 07/01/2010 22:27

Hi all, thanks for advise re potty training. Tried few months back and was def not ready. She has stared ripping of her nappy now and telling us about her pee but can smetimes be a bit late.

I am gonna give it a go when I have next week of and see how she goes. If I feel like she isn't ready will def postpone prob till summer. She can run about buff if she wants (hopeful of nice weather). Don't want to force it.

I have also been getting loads of kicks, like ML the baby def doesn't like me lying on my left side. I sometimes wonder if this baby ever sleeps!

Hope you are all managing in this weather, feel terrible about moaning when some of you are struggling to get out of your homes. You would think after 3 weeks of this there would be end in sight. My DH is lorry driver and is UK wide so constantly checking weather reports - know I shouldn't. He is somewhere near Bedford tonight.

Very envious of all who know sex of baby. Our area will not tell you so would mean paying for scan. Always said no but keep thinking would be nice to know. Both convinced its another girl so neither wants to spend the money.

Lovely to see some of your faces on facebook.

memorylapse · 07/01/2010 22:42

the weather is a complete pain..Im faced with the posibility of having to cancel an evening booking I was supposed to be attending on monday which is nit going to do my business reputation any good at all..but the booking is 45 mins away and with more heavy snow forecast for sunday..I cant take the risk of potentially being stranded or unable to actually get onto the housing estate.

schipo · 07/01/2010 23:50

Catching up:

kit: reading with interest your recommendations re grobags, cots and prams etc. whenever dh catches me looking at stuff online he says it's all too early and that we've got 5 months to go That's not what's holding me back though, still waiting to see if we move. Also still to decide what to get. Has anyone used one of those bedside cots?

weight: I've put over a stone, heavier than i've ever been. I'm kind of relying on being able to eat less towards the end - don't want to put on more than necessary because I find it really hard to shift. Sweetkitty - you sound very lucky in the postnatal weightloss department, but I guess that's pretty unusual. Did same thing happen to your mum?

scans: congratulations on all the good results. We had our scan today and all seems to be good. Hugely relieved of course. Baby was hiding his face at first but eventually gave us a glimpse of his profile. Was quite striking how much he looks like his dad. Even the doctor commented on it. I had to laugh to be honest, but it was lovely to see, gave me a tear in my eyes. I also had a cervical scan which was a bit of a surprise but nice to hear it should hold out long enough. Looks like i shouldn't expect anymore scans though (unless we go for a 4d scan). Do most places do positioning scans at 37 weeks?

anyway sorry the LL spoilt your move ML, just hope that everything else went well and you've got a nice warm house now. I've got to look forward to moving from a modern well insulated flat into a draughtly victorian house complete with no double glazing and open fireplaces [brrr emoticon]. Hoping i don't have to move before this mini-ice age is over

den - congrats on getting scan done and on what sounds like v romantic proposal. pamelat, sorry re your grandparents.
angela, good luck re your dog (did anyone that horizon program about how company of dogs gets same hormones flowing as breastfeeding does?)
BRB, i'm assuming Suey and Mollybob etc are busy back at work..?
Vicky - How was your scan today?

I've requested to join fb group (initials sc). Might join you in the secret stork if RL settles down a bit. apologies for anything else i missed ...think it's time for me to go bed

lizzie9442 · 08/01/2010 08:59

Morning everyone, sorry not been on much, just been so hectic with moving house and xmas. We have a new boiler that has now broken so the house is freezing!

Forgot to mention when i went for my scan few weeks ago they said I have a loe lying placenta. I have to go back for another scan at 32 weeks to see if it has moved. If not they will have to talk to me about a cs. I'm hoping it will move as at the moment it is covering the birth exit for the baby.

I will be 24 weeks pregnant on Monday and this baby is kicking me so much now. How is everyone else doing? xx

Sweetpeasmum · 08/01/2010 09:21

Morning all.

Finally got into work half an hour ago after having to sort out childcare for the day. The nursery has been open for most of each day this week but has finally closed today as the road outside is completely closed due to ice. It is quite a steep hill and I wouldn't fancy walking or driving on it personally. Luckily one of DS' teachers is stuck at home in the next village so DH has tabbed over the field with him in the off-road pram. I bought that pram while living in London and I think my neighbours thought I was mad but it has given me so much freedom for jogging and walking that it has been worth every penny. If any of you are in two minds over whether you need one or not then I suggest you go for it!

We have only got about 6 inches of snow here and the raods are clear but there does seem to be a problem with ice. I hope all those that are trully snowed in are managing and that you have enough food, etc.

Schipo - I've got a positioning scan at 37 weeks due to having an emergency CS last time. DS was finally diagnosed as being breech at full dilation. They want me to have a VBAC and I have agreed providing they humour my neurosis at a later stage and check which way this one is lying.

Take care and keep well.

ForcesSweetheart · 08/01/2010 09:48

good luck with today's scan ML Let us know how it goes.

lizzie Hope your placenta budges up a bit for you. Did they say if it's just a bit low-lying or full placenta previa?

My darling DH gave me a much needed lie-in this morning, he got up silently and got DD ready for nursery by himself (usually I do that bit while he gets ready for work - I dread to think what her hair looks like!) then took her to nursery on his way to work. I didn't even realise they'd gone til he phoned at 8.45 to tell me the MHS guy was outside the front door to fix the oven but wasn't getting an answer to the doorbell! Not a huge lie in but better than having to get up at 7am.

Weighed myself again this morning and I'm still exactly the same, 10lb up overall. The Pregnancy Weight Gain Calculator on Baby Corner says I'm 3lb below where I should be and should talk to my doctor about how to increase it! Yeh right! If I'm still at this weight in a couple of months I might worry but certainly not now.

sweetkitty · 08/01/2010 09:51

Morning all, no snow overnight so got the older two off to nursery and school fine. DP at home this morning as well as his car has died and he has abandoned it and got the train home. Not much else happening here, getting so stir crazy cannot go anywhere or really do anything. Don't get paid until next week so cannot even do some internet shopping.

schipo - I have never really thought about weight loss after the births, it's just kind of dropped off a combination of BFing and never sitting still that long, in my previous life I worked in the food industry and there would be samples of cakes and biscuits all over the place and we had to do taste tests as well, everything revolved around food, that and sitting at a desk all day and of course wine meant I had piled weight on, I have a completely different lifestyle now though.

I have had a bedside cot for DD2 and 3 and cannot recommend them enough. Ours has 3 normal sides and one that folds under and the height is adjustable so you push it against your bed and have it at the same height as your mattress. Means the baby is close to you but still has it's own space, although half the time the baby would be in the middle of the bed and my bum was in the cot!

ML - I wouldn't even risk the booking, any decent people would completely understand

brightred - none of mine are getting the SF vaccine, they don't have any underlying health issues so I don't think it's that big a risk IYSWIM?

sweetpea - congrats on your scan too

Right am off to do some eating before braving the Artic outside again, with the bump, the SPD and carrying a wriggly toddler on your hip walking in it is not nice!

memorylapse · 08/01/2010 10:12

lizzie...sorry to hear about your boiler..what a time for it to break down[-angry]..do you have any electric heaters at all?

is anyone else nervous about walking in the ice?? DH took the children to school today but said that the paths and road leading to the school was solid with fozen compacted snow..he said dd slipped over twice...Im dreading having to do it on monday.

SK...Im going to email the client and advise re booking for another time..we have more snow forecast for sunday so cannot guaruntee that we will be able to get there. I have a full day corporate booking tomorrow, which Im hoping will be quiet as many folk wont be able to get there!

newmomma · 08/01/2010 10:35

hi ladies,

BORED with the snow - haven't left home in days and really feel like cabin fever is setting in.

had my sons first birthday yesterday without a single member of friends or family managing to make it through to see him :-(

we made the best of it - picnic on the living room floor and lots of silly games. and a few tears from his mummy (am I mental?) who can't believe her little baby is a year old already and felt very emotional all day.

starting to look SO massive - next time i venture out to see people am worried they're all going to think i'm ready to drop - am only 23 weeks!! is it usual to be MUCH bigger 2nd time round??

anyway - have joined the fb group - sarah sivyer (newmomma) can you let me in pleeaase?

xxx

Hollyoaks · 08/01/2010 10:39

Morning all

Lizzie - our boiler packed in on Monday morning, we couldn't get the engineer out till Tuesday and get it fixed till late afternoon. So, we spent two freezing days huddled infront of a halogen heater and dd spent the night in our bed. Very cold, but managable for a short time, hope your getting it fixed asap.

This happened on the same day as dh's van broke down on the A1 and so we've had to take out a loan to buy a new one and the hoover went on fire. Not to mention the laptop that is still in the shop being fixed, we started 2010 with a healthy bank balance (considering dh is self-employed and doesn't get paid over xmas) and one week later we're skint till the 22nd. Don't think I'll get many birthday visitors over the weekend due to the weather either .

Rant over, at least I have another day off school. Its actually open to sixth formers but I can't get up the hill to get out of our estate. We've just had a tractor around our streets scraping the snow up but it just seems to have compacted it rather than cleared it.

Hope everyone is well, congratulations on more positive scans. Lizzie - hope your placenta moves by the time you get your next scan

kateyjane · 08/01/2010 11:18

I have another day off school today (only open to 6th form - who I don't teach this year) My children have finally gone back to school and nursery today and I've been to Tesco - hurray! Why is it all I ever seem to have in the freezer is mince and bread rolls, frozen homemade chilli and bolognaise?? The poor DC's are going to look like a packet of mince by the end of the snow!! Wonder what will happen next week, as there is more forecast for Sunday. What a weird week.
brightred I got a request for my youngest two to have the SF vaccine before Christmas, but cancelled because I couldn't decide. My DS 3 has asthma - so I still genuinely don't know what to do?
Memory I have fallen twice now, and I'm sure it is completely because I'm nervous and therefore being too cautious. Feel a bit silly about it now.
Congratulations to everyone on the scans and about the broken boilers. Don't know if it's just me, but I am dreading our heating bill after the last month! I'd better start saving now.
It is really strange, but nice seeing what everybody looks like on FB

itshappenedagain · 08/01/2010 11:31

moring all!

still plenty of snow here...or should i say ice, ventured out yesterday and got as far as the corner of the street and it was like an ice rink.

Ds has a party tomorrow in city centre, usually this wouldnt be a problem as we could walk down or jump the bus, but we will have to see if the it clears a bit forst, especially as its on the dock so will be soooooooo cold!

boilers must be a problem for so many at the moment, mine is struggling to cope and now 3 of my radiators arent heating up, ive called the landlord last week and agian on monday and he said he would have someone out to look at them by friday, just called him back before and he said that i wasnt a priority...so i told him 2 more had gone and that you cant run a bath and have the heating on at the same time, if he doesnt move quickly il just call the council to do it and they can bill him, ive been waiting for them to do the bathroom one since last summer!

hope all are well and that those with scans are managing to get to them ok.

Vicky204 · 08/01/2010 14:20

Hi schipo & all

Had second scan yesterday and all fears unfounded baby just fine, everything where it should be and developing well. 1st scan was asleep this scan wouldn't sit still at all so didn't really get to it's profile so no idea which one of us it looks like, just glad all is well.

memory - i to am very worried about the ice, here in London not that much snow so had turned into an icerink on the pavements and roads. Although my DP got me these things called foot claws for Christmas which are just great they're these band things you put around and underneath your shoes (fit onto any shoe) and they have small claw/ice pick looking things on them which give really good grip on ice and snow so feel bit more secure wearing those, wasn't that excited about them as a Christmas present but have turned out to be just what I need!

memorylapse · 08/01/2010 16:30

vicky..your DP must have had a preminition(sp) about the weather

had my fetal heart scan today..baby playing ball so sonographer was able to thoroughly check the heart..all vessels where they should be..all 4 chambers working well etc

she zoomed out so we could have a look at baby..she still has girl bits according to the sonographer and was very active..we saw a lovely min or so of her kicking about, waving her hands about and blowing bubbles!

we got two lovely pics which we werent charged for..so as soon as my scanner is connected I will scan them in.

pigleychez · 08/01/2010 17:59

Nice to hear about the lovely scans

Lizzie- Hope you get the heating sorted soon!

Forces- How nice of DH to give you a lay in My DH does that sometimes if DD wakes stupidly early and its sooo nice!

Newmomma- Happy Birthday to DS for yesterday. 1 is such a milestone isnt it. I had mixed emotions on DD's 1st birthday- Happy but sad she was growing up so quickly!

Hollyoaks- Things all happen all at once dont they!

Katey- We braved Sainsburys today too- It was heaving!! was Tesco's?

Happenedagain- What is it with Landlords.. They dont seem to care do they

Vicky- Those shoe claw things sound fab!- Just right for the ice

Had our scan this afternoon. I rang this morning to check it was still on what with the snow ( staff getting in etc).
Baby behaved, unlike DD in all her scans and everything is fine. Long legs like DD, so another tall one!
Didnt find out the sex but both DH and I picked up on the sonographer saying "She" once, so possibly another girl.
With DD , DH overheard the sonographer say "her" too.
DH is pretty pleased as he had always said he though 2 girls would be cute.- Guess we will find out in May!

Just heard that our new sofa is still scheduled for delivery tomorrow morning... Just have to wait and see if they can actually get us or not!

Nice to see a few photos added to the FB group. Ive added my latest pic too
