Yorky · 06/01/2010 20:23

Den - congratulations - of course the wedding has to come after the baby so we can all argue over meringues and colour schemes on our post-natal thread!!

Pamelat - so sorry for your double whammy, hope the funerals don't clash Are you thinking of using their name(s) for your LO?

ML - hope all your moving is going well, about from the cheerful soul who was your landlord. Had a quick look at your website those paintings are beautiful, but how well does bump painting cover stretch marks from previous inhabitants?
Just so the rest of you know what I'm on about have a look

Who else have I missed?
I appear to be nesting which is dd as I haven't done any in my previous 2 pregnancies! But all DSs clothes are finally sorted so the too small ones are put away and his good ones are in his drawers - he hasn't had clothes in his chest of drawers for weeks! And I've scrubbed all the bath toys - DCs skin feels lovely after using lush bath bombs on them, but it sticks to the toys a bit!

Who else had heartburn - what a brilliant idea about the prescription - I was thinking of buying shares in Rennies! Why haven't we got a 'Doh!' smiley?

Den26 · 06/01/2010 20:58

Thank you all!!

Pamelat - so sorry to hear your news.

Forces - that sucks you couldn't make scan, damn snow!

Yorky - look forward to wedding discussions once our LO's are all here!!!

Had snow up here in the highlands now very very cold temperatures!!! Not good for driving. I'm due to fly down to Bristol for a course in Bath on Sunday - anyone near there - whats weather like?

TomlinTowers · 06/01/2010 22:10

Hi All, just trying to catch up.

Den - congrats on your proposal, was it very romantic?? I love weddings, looking forward to hearing all about yours after May.

Pamelat - really sorry to hear your news, hope you and DH are holding up.

Forces - really sorry about your scan, hope you get there next week!

Yorky - I am starting to get the heartburn as well, but our GP only gives you really awful stuff, not the nicer tasting Gaviscon etc, and the horrible stuff makes me gag so I am going to have to ask for a different prescription!

ML hope the move is going well.

I think I am also getting nesting instincts - I have just booked a cleaning company to come and do a full professional spring clean on the house in Feb and I can't wait - they are going to do cupboard tops, skirting boards, oven, the works. DH won't be able to leave so much as a cup mark when it's done!

I am so over the snow now - we have had it non-stop since 18th December and I am just fed up that I can't get out and walk anywhere. The roads are horrendous, it took me and DH over 2 hours to get to work 20 miles away today and I think the local councils must have run out of grit because the roads are just big piles of slush. I am meant to be meeting my best friend in London on Saturday and then going to see Billy Elliot so the trains better be running!! She is due her first LO in Feb so it is really the last chance we will get to meet up for a while.

Also - I have been sales shopping and have bought some adorable little dresses, but I just keep on looking at baby boy stuff. I will have to break the habit of looking at boys' clothes and start looking at pink stuff!! On the plus side, Mamas and Papas has a great maternity wear sale - I got over £331-worth of clothes for the grand total of £78 - loads of tops, a big wrap to cover the bump when it gets too big for my coat, PJs. It is fab!

I will try and join the facebook group - it is Helen Tomlin in York.

Hope everyone else is well, and keeping warm and safe. We don't want anyone slipping onto bumps!

Gils · 06/01/2010 22:25

Den Conrats on your proposal, looking forward to hearing all about wedding preperation.

Pamelat So sorry for your loss. Must be so hard to deal with 2 deaths so close together.

I have sent a request on facebook. Gillian McGregor.

I am like Tomlin. Had snow for nearly 3 weeks and I am just so sick of it. So worried about falling on the ice but can't see it disappearing anytime soon. I stay in Falkirk, Central Scotland, and I have never known snow like it. We normally escape the snow.

Been busy looking for new bed for DD. She is 25 months and sleeps in cot bed so having look in sales. Found a single divan with pull out bed underneath. She loves having her older cousin to stay.

Also starting potty training next Thursday, feels like she is growing up so fast now

ForcesSweetheart · 07/01/2010 00:15

pamelat so sorry for your losses.

gils the single divans with pull out bed underneath are fab also because you can keep the bottom bed pulled out a foot or so while your child gets used to it in case they fall out. DD has one and fell out a few times at first but had a lovely soft landing on the pull out.

sk hope you make it to your scan!

mollybump now kicks my hand off my belly regularly, especially when I lie on my left side, she kicks my right side really hard.

Off to find the facebook group now. Lisa Pearson to whoever is authorizing.

30ish · 07/01/2010 08:20

The heartburn has strted for me too - the Dr will only prescribe Gaviscon and this only works for about ten minutes!

School still shut - would normally love a few extra days off but beginning to get a little bit bored!

I have requested to join the Mumsnet May 2010 Babies group on facebook - my name is Samantha Clayton.

Hollyoaks · 07/01/2010 09:04

Another snow day for me too, actually quite enjoying the extra time with dd and don't know how I'm going to cope either tomorrow or Tuesday when I have to go in. Its my birthday on Sunday so quite nice to have an extended holiday up until then . Though don't think I'll have many visitors if the roads don't improve.

Den - congrats, sorry I missed that off earlier, thats motivation to shift the baby weight after May.

Gils - is your dds cot bed too small, I'm assuming shes in it as a bed now or are you going to use it for the baby? Jealous of your dd potty training too, dd is 2 at the end of the month but doesn't seem anywhere near ready to train yet. Plan is to try during the easter holidays so shes dry by the time the baby arrives, fingers crossed.

RacquelWelsh · 07/01/2010 09:07

pamelat thinking of you, that's really tough

I'm in Wales and been snowed in for nearly 3 weeks. Managed to drive out once for the 20 week scan (all OK but they don't tell you the sex in Powys) but had to walk back home the last mile or so. Car still in town. It's getting a bit much now, 6ft drifts and a couple feet at the sides of the compacted ice road.

Baby kicking properly now, what a weird feeling that is?!

Have requested to join the FB group, Rachel H, will be good to see you on there too.

Just updating as we found out at 8.30 this morning, we're having another girl!
Will be so much easier as DC4 is a girl, also, my boys give me far more hassle, so I'm hoping for another chilled out girl.

On the subject of Heartburn, mine is made doubly bad because of certain meds I'm also on. The Zantac/Ranetidine (got on prescription) only lasts for a few hours, so doc has now prescribed Omeprazole. It's fab, nothing at all, I feel human again. But then mine was so bad the top of my throat and tongue were red raw from stomach acid.

wibblela · 07/01/2010 10:51

I second that Omeprazole is fab! With all the meds I have been on my stomach is a bit shot. When we told GP I was pg he took me off everything and I was really suffering. Tried some Gaviscon tablets and Peptac - neither were particulary effective or for very long, so I talked to GP again who put me back on Omeprazole. Now I have no symptoms Consultant said it was fine to be on it as well. So if you suffering and nothing is helping - badger your GP!

sweetkitty · 07/01/2010 11:34

Five - congrats on another girl just saw it, that will be great as DD2 and she will be so close

Potty training - I would not potty train a toddler before 2 1/2 based on my past experience. It's an awful lot easier when they are older, much faster too. I know everyone says "get them trained before the baby comes along" but a newly trained toddler is a nightmare, everywhere you go you are checking for toilets, asking them every 5 mins if they need, worried about accidents etc nappies are much easier and they will be trained eventually just a few months delay. I am not even going to attempt DD3 until this one is at least 6 months old. DD2 was 2.8yo as I couldn't face it with SPD and being pregnant she did it in about 3 days, compared to DD1 a breeze.

Just my experience, I am off the parenting opinion "go with the flow" don't worry about it, I don't get stressed about what they should and shouldn't be doing, it if works for us and most importantly makes my life easier then all the better

Also completely fed up with the snow too, wish it would just go away cannot get going anywhere, want to spend money too!

Right better go spaking of nappies better change one

memorylapse · 07/01/2010 11:41

Yorky the artwork covers a multitude of sins inc stretchmarks! Sorry for quick posts very labourious on my phone. Can someone send me an invite to join the fb group please? Cant find it in the search. Im erica norman was wafford

myfirstbump · 07/01/2010 11:45

How do I find the facebook group? It's not showing when I search it... or am I being especially dense today?

Vicky204 · 07/01/2010 11:59

Pamelat - so sorry to hear of your loss, it's always difficult but especially this time of year.

Den - congrats on engagement, great way to start the year.

I've applied to join Facebook group initals VF, so hope to see you all soon!

Congrats to all those with their 2nd scans done, glad to hear so many happy stories.

Got my second scan today we're not going to find out the sex although I think it's a boy, very nervous and just hope all is ok!!

pamelat · 07/01/2010 12:16

Thank you all. Its hard but life does go on, which sounds awful.

DD helps as she doesnt really give us time to grieve

I told grandad a couple of hours before that I was using his middle name for our son. I think he would like that. At the weekend we told DH's nana that we were using her late husbands name too, she was very pleased

pigleychez · 07/01/2010 13:06

So nice to hear about all theses lovely scans Meant to have mine tomorrow but will ring in the morning to see if its worth heading in or not.
Snow is so thick here now. DH managed to get into work today after spending half an hour this morning digging himself out of the drive.
Heard this morning that they reckon this cold snap is going to last a few more weeks!

Re- Facebook... Memory- I think I sent a invite to you.. This is all abit new to me!

Pamlet- How lovely to be using their names. Sadly all my grandparents died before I got married and had babies I know they would of LOVED to see DD.

DD had her first major bump last night. She slipped whilst playing in the bath and banged her chin, causing her to bite her tongue. Major blood and drama. Im used to it from working in Nurseries for 10 years but poor DH got a bit of a shock. Shes fine now, showing everyone her tongue with its big cut in it! She only just got her first top tooth (at 17mths!) and learnt that she can bite properly!

Feel sooooo tired today! DD is being a bit of a pickle which doesnt help. She just gone down for a nap so think I might have a little rest myself

AnAngelWithin · 07/01/2010 13:28

so has anyone else had a growth chart things put in their records predicting the baby weight???? i want to quit now haha.

feel very emotional and tired today. my dogs not well, shes had various operations the past 12 months to removed tumours and ones grown back accressively. xray on monday morning, if its spread to her lungs, no more operations and waiting game. If its not spread, then another op my poor baby. I know shes only a dog to some people. and we have only had her 3 years (off another MNer!) but shes family. sob....

OP posts:
kateyjane · 07/01/2010 13:45

Congratulations on all the 2nd scans, can't wait for mine. LO is now very active, beginning to wonder if it might be a girl now, as my girls were much more active than my son.
I completely agree with SweetKitty about potty training. I attempted it far too early with DD1 and it was a disaster (though that could also have been something to do with my complete aversion to public toilets )With my DS we gave him some Thomas underpants for his 3rd birthday and he's been brilliant ever since. It is difficult though when friends children are fully trained and dry at night by 23 mths
I'm sorry about your dog Angel, I hope it hasn't spread and that you are able to do something to help her.
Hope you are doing okay Pamelat. A lovely idea to name your LO after them and really nice that they both knew.

kateyjane · 07/01/2010 13:50

Sorry pigleychez, meant to say that I hope your DD is okay and has got over the shock. My DD2 once bit off a chunk from the inside of her lip - the amount of blood was truly terrifying as was the shock. Hope she is getting over it.

memorylapse · 07/01/2010 14:21

pigley..nope havent had an invite to join but have found the group and sent a request

wibblela · 07/01/2010 14:41

Just a quickie - have seen GP this morning and he listened to my chest and decided to put me on anti-biotics - thinks it is an infection. No mention of Anemia or anything else. Should be glad really that it is so simple, but my pessimistic brain is a little concerned - asthma started getting worse weeks before any cough...

memorylapse · 07/01/2010 14:52

have now become a member of the fb group..yay!

wibbela..do you attend a regular ashtma clinic within the surgery?? now you are pregnant you should be seen regularly by the ashtma nurse..what has your peak flow been like?

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 07/01/2010 14:58

pigleychez hope your DD is over the worst now, mouth injuries bleed so much don't they? DS2 put his teeth through his lip the night before we went to eurodisney a few years back. Lots of ice lollies helped.
SK totally agree on the potty training. Later is better IMHO. It's so much quicker when they're fully aware of themselves, and a recently trained toddler may regress when a new sibling arrives. DD" tells me now when she's done a poo, I ask her "shall we change your nipnap?" "NOOOOOO!" she screams and runs away, obviously happy with her foul smelling bum.

I'm feeling a very happy lady today, my lovely mum has just ordered and paid for a Double Montain Buggy in Plum with matching Carrycot for the new baby (DD3) and DD2.
