newmomma - congrats on girl and even tho a bit of a pain to get there nice to have another chance to see the baby.

Angle - good luck with scan, hope all ok :D

30ish - nice to finally get snow, you must be in the SW like me, first day for us and we got big massive chunks, looks like feathers!

Congrats to the rest that had good scans etc, here's to good sailing till we have our wee babas!

A friend told me about this website, www.kiddicare.com that is cheaper than mother care and they have free delivery, might be worth having a look for those have started buying.

kateyjane · 05/01/2010 13:59

Snow day - hurray!
Pamelat -I felt exactly the same as you. I had 2 girls and completely expected to have another. It was a real shock to have a boy, DH couldn't get his head round it either and called him she for the first week. However, he was such an easy baby compared to our girls and is so much more cuddly and affectionate.(Not that the girls aren't, but he is more laid back and I suppose a bit less independent!) Now I am kind of hoping we have another boy - not that I really mind, as long as he/she is healthy. I can guarantee you that boys love their mums! and DH did quite enjoy assembling train tracks and Ben10 things this Christmas - makes a change from sticking all the fiddly stickers on Sylvanian Families things
30ish I agree, it is very difficult to ask for things back! I was considering it, then met up with my friend and she is having another baby due 2 weeks before me, so definately couldn't ask then!
Congratulations newmomma and at least you'll get to see your LO again, which I'm sure is worth the long journey
Hope all has gone well Anangelwithin

ForcesSweetheart · 05/01/2010 14:11

pamelat know what you mean about people assuming men want sons. I didn't want to find out the sex but DH was so desperate to know coz he said if it was gonna be a boy he needed time to get his head around it as he really wanted another girl. I almost felt my family looked at him a bit funny when he said he was hoping it was a girl, but he just adores his little princess so much and being a squadie he's in such a male dominated environment most of his life that he likes to come home to his girls.

Have started buying with a vengeance. Promised I wasn't going to buy much this time around but can't help myself. Bought a fab new baby monitor in Argos' clearance sale yesterday. It's a motorola video monitor. We had a cheapie video monitor at first with Lola but it wasn't the best quality and we ended up sacking it (it went to one of the other January 06 mums IIRC) but this one's miles better and I'm dead impressed with it. Was on clearance for 69.99 which I thought was really reasonable.
Also went a bit nuts in the Next sale on baby clothes, justifying it to myself on the grounds that this baby will be born in a different season to my January DD.

30ish · 05/01/2010 14:17

Pamelat my experience exactly! Before we knew, everyone assumed we wanted a son! Now everyone keeps telling me, 'Your DH must be sooo pleased' as though he must have been so disappointed wih a beautiful DD! My MIL cried when she found out we were having a DD the first time round as she wanted a grandson to carry on the family name!!!She went on and on about how scans are often wrong and how depressed she was because it was a girl!! As a result (and because of many, many other reasons) we have a strained relationship. Honestly, it's like living in the dark ages! She is now very happy (which gets right up my nose). DH would now love another little girl as it happens!

Rant over! I am sure having a son and daughter will be wonderful and we'll soon get used to te idea Pamalet! One lady I work with has three daughters and would have loved a son, whilst another has three boys and really wanted a girl! Funny how people feel about it!

itshappenedagain · 05/01/2010 14:21

hello all!

glad to see all are keping well and that some still have scans tolook forward to. This pregnancy has been so different to the last one, had no probs last time till 24 weeks when i was admitted after a massive bleed, this time have bled most of the way through on and off and it is still only now sinking in that I am having a GIRL...keep going to the boy section, mainly out of habbit i think. my mum has taken some time off in the half term break so we can go down and stay with her and do a bit of shopping for the essentials.
I will be buying growbags again, found them fab last time especially as they where fab for transfering into pram without any disruption when i had to go somewhere.
Los dad is coming over to see me in feb and phones on occasion, i think he may be slightly shocked at just how big i have got, im huge now so go only knows how big i will be by the middle of Feb. he wont be telling his family and i feel a little sad as hes treating it like some guilty secret. dont know what i will tell her in the future when she may want to go and find him.anyway im going to be really forward and ask him for the money to buy the essential bits for her, as he is half of her too, the worst he can say is no.

30ish · 05/01/2010 14:24

CornishSAMum i not in the SW, i'm in the NW and the snow hasn't really shifted since December! Getting fed up with it now and this morning I found a thread which made me smile about more snow! Enjoy the snow!

ForcesSweetheart · 05/01/2010 15:31

Waaah it's just started snowing here. PLEASE don't let my scan tomorrow (and my physio appt) get cancelled!!!

myfirstbump · 05/01/2010 15:32

Hurray for snow days! We haven't had any at all here, which is really depressing. But I can imagine how monotonous it must get after a while 30ish Pamelat - my DH would secretly love to have a girl as there have been so many boys on his side of the family! I think if it was she would get spoiled something rotten by MIL! We'll just have to hang on another 20 weeks to find out though, unless it's so obvious tomorrow at the scan that you can't help but notice...

On a separate note, does anyone know what you can and can't take for a cold when pg? I've been surviving on paracetamol and OJ since Saturday and it's not helping

booboomonster · 05/01/2010 17:21

Hello all and happy new year! Haven't had a sec to post as busy with visitors/ Xmas stuff. Good to hear everyones news. Am very about scans as mine isn't til 21 jan. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow so it's quite late. I am gonna find out sex if poss - want to start envisaging this person... And like some of u have said, just get my head round it. And sort names! Have DD and SDD and DH wants a boy... I'm in two minds.

Anyway. Hope move went well memorylapse - thinking of u with all this nasty weather.

Hope everyone else keeping warm. Has everyone felt kicks? I thought it wd be earlier this time and I think I have felt them but am still wondering if it's just wind etc... I think my memory from last time is of more substantial kicks that u get later (visible on the outside) but I think that's what I was expecting. Anyway, will have to wait til 21st to be reassured.

I'm back at work tomorrow - kind of ready to go but feel sad at end of holidays. I was so looking forward to Xmas and jan seems like an eternity.... Think the next few months might drag for me after whirlwind first half of pregnancy.

Anyway, hope alls well with everyone x x

booboomonster · 05/01/2010 17:26

Myfirstbump - I think u can pretty much only take paracetamol in terms of drugs. It's rubbish isn't it? I know I longed for a shot of night nurse just to sleep through. But u can't. Try lemon and honey. Or mix in Ginger. Garlic is also supposed to he good for colds (but not with the lemon/honey/Ginger - tried that once and it's minging).
Maybe someone else will have some other ideas? Good luck! X

myfirstbump · 05/01/2010 18:04

Sucks. I thought as much. I'm sure I've got man flu!

Will try honey and lemon though. Thanks Booboo! I think I've been feeling kicks, definitely feeling flutters. Nothing outside yet, but I'm sure that will come later.

wibblela · 05/01/2010 18:12

Hi everyone

We have snow here, I thought it was a lot until we went to Bolton this afternoon and they have 1ft! I am so glad we have a 4x4 (c: The M62 was interesting - there seem to be a people who have no respect for the weather or braking distances!

Anyway, will not rant about that - much better things to talk about

DH and I went to Ante-natal clinic this morning and had the 20 week scan (am now 21+5). We saw LO again and LO is most definitely our child! Didn't like posing for pictures and was a fidget! Sonographer prodded to no real avail! We wanted to find out the sex and although LO's legs weren't crossed, the gender wasn't easy to see. Sonographer said area was quite flat and was therefore quite likely that we were having a GIRL!!! She did say she couldn't be 100% - I guess we shall find out for sure in May

Had my consultant appointment after that. Life is going to get interesting! I have been on Metformin because of an insulin resistance, however they want to see, as I am obese, if I have developed gestational diabetes, so they have taken me off of that. I now have to check my blood sugar after every meal and most likely go for a GTT in couple of weeks - FUN Also because am obese they are going to do serial growth scans - that means we get to see LO more often On top of that because I have Multiple Sclerosis I need to see Anaesthetist before birth.

tinylion · 05/01/2010 18:44

Hellooo - had my scan last week - and having a boy!! gosh...already got a girl so one of each.

Starting not to feel so pants (21 weeks now) and mad carb cravings and sickness easing off. I look like an egg with ENORMOUS boobs and generally wheezy like an old woman. But not quite so anxious as well and even vaguely looking forward to new baby.

Just decided to go to midwife led maternity hospital where no epidurals available. Slightly bricking it about that, but got loads of time and anything could happen (breech baby? enormous baby? you know the kind of thing).

Taking omeprazole for acid indigestion which helps A LOT!!

hope all are well...we are out in the middle of the countryside on our farm, so a foot and a half of snow and diesel frozen on our tractor, so can't even drive to main road. I'm quite organised so have got full fridge/freezer but just so bored! With a bored toddler too!!

itshappenedagain · 05/01/2010 20:05

so glad to see that you have still manaaged to get to scans and that staff have been able to get through. we have had snow all day here and and now have about a foot and a half, and is still snowing.
schools are closed tomorrow, with the possiblity of the rest of the week, so there goes my week of getting rid of the rest of the clutter. The other thing about the school closure is that Ds just wants to constantly be out in the snow, so i have to freeze too, then again mustnt complain he may not see snow in this country for a while yet!

memorylapse · 05/01/2010 21:41

Just a quick post as posting from my mobile. We have heavy snow.roads are a nightmare yet the schools are still open dreading tomorrows school run. We are all moved but sadly are going to have to go to arbitration to get our deposit back. Lovely news about the scans. I am 23 weeks today and have been asked to go for a fetal heart scan on friday which I wasnt expecting

Den26 · 05/01/2010 22:06

Happy New year all!!! First of me getting to catch up since the festivities!! Have read through posts but sorry - brain doesn't seem to be absorbing info!!! Glad to hear people mostly ok.

Memorylapse - so sorry to hear your having more troubles, hopefuly 2010 a smoother year for you and new home is a relaxing haven!!!

Been feeling lots of movement over last couple of weeks which is exciting DP felt it too which is great Went back to work today and workmates surprised at how big my bumps grown over 2 weeks!

DP also proposed over christmas!!! was very surprised!!! No date yet, think it will be baby first, wedding later!!

Had 20 week scan today - was fascinating! I cannot believe how much you can see! LO wasn't cooperating though ad kept moving so was in for nearly 45mins getting prodded - didn't help as i kept laughing!

Looks like i'm helping to hold up the blue end!! Sonographer fairly certain it's a BOY!!!! DP completely over the moon at having a son! I didn't really mind either way.

Good luck to those still to have scans

Happy New year everyone hope you all had a good Xmas.

Congrats on all scans and good luck to those still waiting for scans.

Many congratulations on your engagement Den26. Like you this is the first chance I have had to catch up since the festivities and I too have read through posts but not absorbed info, sorry.

Had 20 week scan yesterday at 21+5 we are having another boy so that will be 3 so will be even more outnumbered. Was expecting a boy and am happy but would love to have a little girl to buy pink things for. Maybe will have to have another! scan was all fine.

ML - sorry to hear you are having problems with your Landlord, sounds a real charmer!! hope you get it sorted. What a pain to have to go to arbitration!

Wiblela I agree grobags/sleeping bags are great I have recently got one for my 19 month old DS2 and he now goes off to sleep much more easily and sleeps much better. will def get one for new lo. think newborns are recommended to be at least 8lb to start using one. We have quite a warm room and as May should be mild, hopefully will prob get a 1 tog. DS2 is only in one tog now, but we have got heating on a lot. I think 18-20 degrees is recommended for babies rooms but I agree this does feel too cold especially 18 but of course you can just increase the tog for colder rooms I think for below 19 degrees you need a 2.5 tog but it varies on make of sleeping bag. We have a mothercares own which is good, was on sale.
Sorry to hear about your complications, hope all works out ok for you.

Hi all and happy new year.

First time I've been able to post in a while as our laptop crashed over the holidays, compelte nightmare as have been unable to work, check emails and most importantly mumsnet .

Congratulations on all of the positive scans and all the little boys and girls. I'm only 19 weeks and have my scan on 12th Jan, excited but not going to find out what we are having. I think another girl, everyone else thinks a boy. Belly is now sticking out very obviously so have had a few belly rubs (shocked as it could still be a big pot belly) and baby is kicking a lot.

I'm in Northumberland, very near to scotland, so we have had constant ice and snow since the week before xmas. Snow is very deep at the moment and unfortunately I haven't been back to work since December as the school has been closed.

Hope everyone is well and staying warm.

LuckyC · 06/01/2010 09:30

Having a rare fuzzy moment, as opposed to my normal state of light panic and/or hunger. Baby is awake and doing something terribly energetic. Sweet. Little girl.

awwwww.

AnAngelWithin · 06/01/2010 09:59

morning all.

Congratulations on your engagement den!! and on having a boy!

had my scan yesterday. All well. The baby was well behaved til they wanted to take a picture then it wasn't obliging!! Got one anyway though not very clear, pic on profile (i think!)

Placenta is very high and at the back and the baby was laying sideways across my tummy. No wonder I've been uncomfortable!! I feel a sit sore today though from her pressing quite hard for the scan, but am glad all is ok with baby.

OP posts:
kateyjane · 06/01/2010 11:05

Congratulations on your scans Mummymunchkins, tinylion, AnAngelwithin, Den26 and Wibblela
Also Congratulations on your engagement Den26

Well we're on to our second snow day here, so two bonus days with DCs Don't know how we'll ever get the car out!

pigleychez · 06/01/2010 11:06

Does everyone have the snow!? We had another 6 inches overnight and its still coming down thick and fast.
DH's office has been closed so hes meant to be working from home. DD is kinda hampering his efforts though!
He doesnt think he will get into work for the rest of the week unless alot of it goes soon.- oh Darn!

Our mechanic was menat to be collected DH's car this morning to get it serviced and MOT but he rang and cancelled.Just hoping it doesnt delay our new sofa coming on Sat.. I cant wait to get it!

Have my scan on Friday afternoon. We live down the road so can easily walk there but just depends if the sonographers make it in. Ill ring in the morning to check.

Den- Wow, what an exciting few weeks for you..and baby boy and a proposal! Huge congratulations!

Nice to hear about the lovely scans and nice to see a few more boys to even out the score!

Wiblea- I have that list. Do you have an email address I can send it to you? Or are you on Facebook?

DH had his hand on my tummy last night and could baby wriggling around. Said he could feel the pressure of baby pushing against me.
-Little wriggler!

Hollyoaks · 06/01/2010 11:13

We have snow, hail and ice!! Had it for weeks which is unusual even for the north east. Not complaining about the two extra days off work so far this week though.
