Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Gils · 04/01/2010 13:25

Afternoon ladies. Can't remember the last time I was on this but new year, new nephew has given me bit of determination to stay a bit more up to date.

Will have to try and get through previous pages. I did see posting about sleeping bags. We used the sleeping bags with DD1 and will def be using them again, I am hopeful for a nice summer that all covers will be kicked of but think thats just wishful thinking due to our current weather.

I am so over the snow, ventured out a few times but need to get to shops. My SIL gave birth on 23rd December to her 2nd son, Benjamin Charles. He is gorgeous, double of his brother. She had section and was out on Xmas day. Was very nice to see her at home. Had a nice cuddle on NY day and my lovely bump was giving his/hers older cousin a wee kick on the bum.

Oh can't wait until May. Already started thinking how to change DD1 routine. DH works away and want a gradual change for DD nightime routine. She still gets wee drink of milk and story in dark but when baby arrives and DH back to work that could be fun.

Best be of, on lunch and its bit hectic here. Wish you all well.

memorylapse · 04/01/2010 13:37

Forces...are they going to give you two weekly scans as of 28 weeks? Ive been told this will happen to me..no heart scan though as I wasnt diabetic before becoming pregnant.

30ish · 04/01/2010 13:40

ForcesSweetheart · 04/01/2010 16:04

ML I dunno if you'll see this or not with the move but just in case - they did tell me how often the growth scans would be but for the life of me I can't remember. Fortnightly would be nice. The heart scan should hopefully be a formality. They give it to mothers who were diabetic at conception as poorly controlled sugars at time of conception increases the risk of all kinds of birth defects but especially heart, however my sugars were perfectly controlled as I was under the care of the pre-conception team and didn't start trying til they gave me the go-ahead so consultant reckons my risk should be same as a non-diabetic mother.

pigleychez · 04/01/2010 17:36

Wibblea- Another growbag fan here too. The supermarket sleeping bags are the same just much cheaper I made a list last time with DD.. ill see if its still saved somewhere or not.

ML- Hope the move goes ok.

Yorky- The secret stork thing sounds like fun

Forces- Hope work arent going to be funny about your sickness.

Gils- Yay on the Nephew

30ish- Yay on the boy... DD will come round!

Heard today that our new sofas are coming on Saturday! Cant wait... seems like ages ago we ordered them- why do they take soo long!?
Just need to sort out getting rid of the old ones now.
The front room is now starting to take shape..Once the sofas are in I can decide if I want to repaint/paper.. I love decorating

Sweetpeasmum · 04/01/2010 17:38

Afternoon all.

Wibblela - we swore by grobags for DS and used them from birth. He was a winter baby so the fact he was toasty warm before we put him into the cot helped him settle more quickly. We didn't have a clue what to buy first time round so to avoid being seduced by all the must have gadgets we got a book from Which? magazine that was full of really useful advice. If they still produce it I would strongly recommend it (even if it is a bit spotter-ish).

I have my next scan on Thurs and will be 20+6. We're very excited and will be finding out the sex if possible. I found it helped me a lot last time as I think I was still in denial about the whole process up until that point. It will also help my MIL, she already has 4 grandsons and 2 two sons so is desperate for the baby to be a girl - if it's a little boy it gives her 4 months to get over the (very minor) disappointment! She dotes on all the boys and is not as evil as I have made her sound!

Back at work today, which hasn't been as busy as I thought it might be, I'm sure the pace will pick up over the next few days.

Hope all those with snow aren't too fed up and that everyone is keeping well.

myfirstbump · 04/01/2010 17:56

Got the next scan on Wednesday, so I'm starting to get butterflies again. BUT happy days after that because provided everything is good news, we're starting shopping after that! Eeep!

Not going to find out - DH and I are adamant on a surprise. But I'm starting to cave a bit, and I'm starting to really want to know!

AnAngelWithin · 04/01/2010 18:04

hi all. not had chance to read up properly so i am sorry. So tired today. Been busy taking decs down and had my midwife appointment today too. All went ok. Heard heartbeat for first time. Downs and neural tube defect risks all came back as low. Scan tomorrow then hopefully go put a deposit on my pram after that. DH wants to buy it with his overtime money for me its a silver cross

ML hope the move goes ok

I love grobags too!

OP posts:
Vicky204 · 04/01/2010 18:47

Angel - I've fallen in love with a Silver Cross too, we have scan on Thursday, can't wait will make it seem real again, as getting bigger but haven't seen or heard baby since week 12!

We're getting the Silver Cross 3D which we love and if you buy it now Mothercare are giving the Car seat for free which is worth £115, so we'll get the complete travel system for £355 which isn't bad, covers every thing including changing bag and lots of extras!

Good luck for the scan tomorrow!

AnAngelWithin · 04/01/2010 19:12

mines the silver cross linear sleepover. i've heard a lot of people have had problems with the 3d buckling? my friend had to have hers repaired cos of it!

OP posts:
pamelat · 04/01/2010 20:01

Happy New Year everyone

Sweetkitty, I have also put a stone on but am a fairly small ish person. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope you all had lovely Christmas's. I enjoyed the day itself and DD (23 months) was SO excited but my family went away on Boxing Day and my DH had to work so its felt a little lonely, and a bit too much like hard work with DD on my own in the freezing cold for the holidays. It was nice to get back to work for a sit down today.

I am still trying to adjust to the boy thing. I feel guilty about it and know that once he arrives I will love him to bits. I just feel a bit tearful about baby girls, although ours was/is a monkey so maybe its for the best .

DH has said we can always have lots more ..

wibblela · 04/01/2010 20:55

Pigleychez That would be great if you have saved that list - would make my life easier

Sweetpeasmum I will look for advice that 'Which' give. TBH I had never thought of them yet, although they are normally our first port of call when we have to buy something

It's really good to hear of experiences re: Grobags. As LO will be born in May, and therefore a spring baby, I am lost on which tog I should use... I have also heard conflicting advice about the temperature of LO's room. Some people say that it should be about 18C and some say about 23C - am lost! DH and I don't even have a radiator in our bedroom coz we get overheated very quickly!

pigleychez · 04/01/2010 21:18

Wibblea- Ive found that list.. Shall I email it to you on your DH's address?
re temp- I think the recommended is about 18 but that always felt too cold to us and DD's room was always hotter than that.
If you buy a growbag brand sleeping bag it comes with a little thermometer to put in thier room which also tells you what they should be wearing and what tog bag to use.
Its also on thier website too...here

Hope thats of some help

AnAngelWithin · 04/01/2010 21:18

pamelat its an emotional time anyway, so i really wouldn't worry too much about it. My DH wants another one after this one!!!

no weight gain as yet either, though i feel HUGE!!!!

OP posts:
Gils · 04/01/2010 21:25

AnAngelWithin that is the pram we had with DD1 and will be using again. I can't fault it at all. I feel in love with it so much that when I found out car seat didn't fit in our car I burst out into tears - hormones!! DH promised we would get it anyway and got his brothers car seat. Changed car since then so hoping to get the car seat that matches pram. I did find it impossible to get umberella to stay up so need to get a better one.

Wibbelea Its hard to not get overwhelmed with all these baby products but try and just buy basics. Remember you'll receive presents too and so many items ie highchair aren't needed initially. Even baby products can be overwhelming I remember standing in front of all the oils and lotions and being so confused, bought tons and all I used was shampoo, baby wash and olive oil.

I'm 23 weeks today, very excited. Had 20 week scan on 16th and everything was fine, we are convinced its a girl again. DH slightly disappointed, he is a typical bloke although he is fantastic with DD. Couldn't wish for better.

Did realise today that this time next year I will already be back at work causejust taking 6 months this time.

kateyjane · 04/01/2010 23:24

Can't wait to get my pram out again - have got an i candy Apple, which I got when DS3 was 18mths, only used it for a couple of months before he walked everywhere, so hopefully will still feel new! Dread to think how much I've spent on prams over the last 7 years - think I've got an addiction!
Yorky secret stork is a lovely idea, I would love to be part of it.
Wibblela Gils is right, it's so overwhelming the amount of baby things available. I wished that I could have taken back everything I didn't/hardly use(d)! The thing is that you just never know, lots of people tell you what was invaluable for them which is really helpful, but doesn't mean you will use it. I feel like I'm starting from scratch again, only have the pram and cot left, as I stupidly gave everything away about a year ago (didn't think no.4 was going to happen) Still, at least I get to go shopping again
Well after one day back it feels like I've never been away. Have got everything crossed for a snow day tomorrow (sorry to those of you who are fed up of it)
Good luck to everyone with scans this week, it's really lovely hearing all the good news.

30ish · 05/01/2010 07:28

Hurray - today is snow day for us! It would be as I was so well prepared, emergency blankets and snacks for in the car (even though DDs nursery and my place of work are only a short drive away), I got up early and had a shower only to recieve a text saying we're shut!

Pamelat i feel the same - i so expected to have another baby girl. We went shopping for blue over the weekend and I just couldn't help but look at all the pretty pink things! Feel very guilty as i am looking forward to having a little boy but still..... iyswim?

AnAngelWithin My DH wants another and I always said that I wanted 3 but i have suggested he counts his blessings for the time being or at least until this one is delivered! Men!

Katyjane My friend had a baby in July and I gave her everything - pram, moses basket, car seat, cot etc and i can't bring myslf to ask for it back as she has some money issues! I am looking forward to more shopping!

ForcesSweetheart · 05/01/2010 08:46

30ish byt the time yours comes your mates will be nearly a year old and way out of a moses basket, I'd at least ask for that back.

Those who've expressed an interest in the secret stork need to hop over to the secret stork thread and email yorky's DH with all your details.

AnAngelWithin · 05/01/2010 09:41

im not getting the parasol or the car seat with mine anyway gils so thats good.

30ish its alright for men isn't it??? they don't have the physical drain to deal with! lol.

Leaving at 10 for my scan....very nervous. Feel all sick and panicky and DH is in a mood for some unknown reason

OP posts:
newmomma · 05/01/2010 10:08

hi all,

had my 20 week scan (although am 22 weeks now!).
all good. they still think its a girl although this guy wasn't as sure as the last woman.

except the baby is breech and back-back so they couldn't do the spinal checks. will have to go back for another scan which is a bit of a pain as it is so far way but i don't mind too much - i just can't get enough of seeing LO wiggling on the screen!

good luck to all you having scans soon! :-)

pamelat · 05/01/2010 13:27

30ish I know exactly what you mean and then people keep saying "but your DH must be glad to be having a boy" and then I get cross as actually he would have preferred another girl and why do people assume that men want sons.

I think I feel "protective" of girls because I have one (and because I am one ) and just need to get my head around the fact that I am having a son.

At least I can still tell DD that she is my favourite little girl!
