Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
alexw · 29/12/2009 20:36

Hello all. Just had a marathon catch up as have been away since 21st. Scan went well - and we too are having a girl. Dd burst into tears when we told her as she has been adamant that she only wants a brother! Drove back from parents today (450 miles). Dad ok considering. Thank you so much for all the lovely kind thoughts on here they have been a real comfort.

mollybob · 29/12/2009 21:33

lots more scans - congrats all and pleased all is as well as poss alexw

DH has been off colour all xmas and has now got bad chest infection - I have had 2 dreadful sicky days - not sure if just pg or same virus he's been struggling with - always have wind but that might just be the sprouts...

MoggMum · 29/12/2009 21:42

alexw congrats on scan and another girl to add to the list! Glad your Dad is ok.

I had my scan today and all looks fine. LO was moving arms and legs around and yawning lots {smile} We chose not to find out the sex but I did try and have a sneaky peak during the scan - couldn't tell either way! Friends & family are convinced that I'm having a girl but I'm not so sure. DH doesn't seem to mind which flavour we have anyway!

Feeling a bit guilty as have spent the last couple of days painting (gloss) and not sure whether I should be in my condition!? DH has been busy laying new laminet flooring which has transformed our hallway/kitchen. Can't wait til it's finished so we can finally relax before we have to go back to work again.

schipo · 29/12/2009 22:11

I'm back from my travels too complete with a persistent sore throat. DH has had a nasty cold, so was expecting it to turn into that, but it didn't. Went to dr today and she assured me it wasn't anything to worry about. We talked about swine flu a bit, she offered to give me pandemrix on the spot but nothing else was available. She didn't seem very bothered when I said I'd think about it a bit more. TBH i'm still trying to keep head in sand about it. Am I the last one here to get the vaccine?

Sorry to hear that we're not the only ones with a festive virus though.

We only just got to our destination in 6 inches of snow and spent a christmas with 25 month old niece. She's a very sweet girl and all, but does demand a lot of attention. What you said LuckyC pretty much sums up my thoughts - how am I going to cope with that!? I was impressed and relieved though to see how popular and patient DH was with her. I hope he can keep that up when our baby arrives!

Congrats on all the latest scans.

Alex, I'm glad you had a good christmas. Also hope your daughter comes around to the idea of having a sister soon. How old is she?

I can't believe the restraint of you guys who choose not to find out the sex. I'm way too nosey

MoggMum · 29/12/2009 22:24

schipo .. I have chosen not to have the SF vaccine so you're not the only one.

To be honest, if it was just up to me I probably would have found out the sex but DH didn't want to.

I often wonder how I'll cope with a LO, especially nappy changing etc (which I've managed to completely avoid despite having 3 nephews and a niece!). I feel a mix of excitement and trepidation at what's to come

kateyjane · 29/12/2009 22:27

Hello everyone.
Hope you all had a great Christmas! I had a lovely one, just a quiet family one which was exactly what I wanted. Now tackling the task of finding homes for all the new toys!
SweetKitty I completely sympathise, I've come down with a cold, sore throat and cough thing as well. So annoying not to be able to take Nightnurse, paracetamol doesn't seem to do anything!
LuckyC and Itshappenedagain - hope your scans go really well.
Memorylapse - we've moved 6 times in the last 7 years before finally finding the right house. I never want to do it again! So hope it's all going well for you.
PigleyChez, hope your DD is sleeping well in her new bed.
I have started to feel more definate little kicks which is lovely (18+6)
Now trying to get motivated to do some work before going back to school next week, really don't want to - am consoling myself with regular doses of Quality Street

kateyjane · 29/12/2009 22:40

Just realised I only read pg 12, not 13!
alexw - congratulations on your scan.

mollybob - hope you are feeling better soon.

schipo and moggmum I think I have chosen not to have the SF vaccine, but also think that I have read far too much about it and now don't know what to think! My DD2 (4) and DS3 (3) were sent appointments just before Christmas but I cancelled them - still undecided about whether to let them have it or not?

Have definately got pregnancy brain tonight - don't think I will attempt anything more strenous than watching TV now

LuckyC · 30/12/2009 09:42

Hey everyone - hope all with colds and flu doing better and everyone managing to get some relaxing downtime.

Scan went well, baby seems healthy - and she's a GIRL! I surprised myself by being completely shocked by this; I had obviously managed to convince myself she was a boy. Thank God we found out now or my expectations would have been seriously off-kilter by May.

Amazing experience but I felt a little like we were invading her privacy - so odd to see her little spine, and heart, and kidneys - probably (hopefully!) a complete one-off. Feel a bit weird about the whole thing, but proud of her for doing so well. And in awe of myself for growing all these things. No wonder we get so knackered/hungry/emotional.

morning all. lots of scans i see! And lots of girls!!! My scan is on tuesday. Midwife on monday. Not sure I am going to find out the sex. Would like to in a way but not in another. DH doesn't want to know so i would have to keep it secret. We have to pay to find out as well, and book a separate scan at a later date, though if I do, I will go to the private clinic to have it done like i did with dd2. DH has just taken the boys for a haircut ready for back to school! Me and the girls are waiting in for the tescos shopping to arrive.

I have felt really poorly with a cough/cold/fever. Still can't get warm now. Been a couple of weeks now DH is working tomorrow but off then til the 13th Jan and then on just 3 day weeks til after feb, so will be nice to spend time together after having over a month of single parenthood!!! At least he can come to the scan and midwife with me this time. He missed the 12 week scan

Something really feels 'different' the past few days...My tummy feels like theres a brick in it!! and in myself....i just can't describe it. Maybe it's the cold and hormones

Sounds like you all had a good christmas.
Happy new year to you all x x

Morning all and congrats on all the scans!

We've had a good Christmas though I caught dd's cold so spent a lot of the time feeling miserable. All the grandparents have now left having stayed with us for a week.

We had our 20 week scan this am and it took forever as junior wasn't cooperating in terms of getting in to the right position. I feel as though I have been prodded to within an inch of my life. Just as well we didn't want to find out the sex as the sonographer said she couldn't get a clear view anyway! She also said this LO was very lazy, just sat on its bottom and not moving anywhere

itshappenedagain · 30/12/2009 14:34

hello all! back from my scan, ahd a bit of a panic as they had to go and get someone else for a second opinion, as they thought that the baby had a hole in its heart...but isnt.
other than that all is well and im having a baby in about 18 weeks!!! oh and its a GIRL!!!!! was happy either way, and had been calling her he for a long while now, will not be telling anyone in RL, as wil let them wait for the suprise!

Yorky · 30/12/2009 16:03

Another nice Christmas here, with both kids full of cold which DH and I caught
We had a lovely meal out for our anniversary too while the kids were at my parents, we toyed with the idea of a night away but ended up not doing as DD has finally cut 2 new teeth after a horrid week of nights

Glad all the scans are going well but am at the number of girls, don't think I'm going to add to it, but won't know until May as costs to find out here

sweetkitty · 30/12/2009 16:38

itshappenedagain - congrats on a girl, it's a DS you have already???

So many girls, I have booked a scan for the 9th seems ages away, told DP who said "so we have to pay money for them to tell us what we already know then?" We are about 90% sure about her first name as well and about 99% sure she is a she.

On DD3's thread boys outnumbered girls 3 to 1 pretty exactly, strange isn't it?

wibblela · 30/12/2009 17:09

Wow, lots of girls Good news that the scans have gone so well

I have a scan booked for Tuesday - still undecided about whether to find out the sex or not. DH says he doesn't mind whether we find out or not - there will be a baby at the end whatever! Belly has now got really hard - was used to it being as it was pre-pregnancy, spongy

We've spent the last week in - have both been feeling run down and consequently knackered. Am so impressed that a lot of people have gone away! Or about the move house - immense respect to those

memorylapse · 30/12/2009 17:48

congrats on al the scans

feeling slightly stressed here as because we are moving 10 miles down the road..my current doctors are booting us off their books..weve got a month to find another surgery and it also means Ill be off the CMW books too....Ive phoned every surgery in the area today and all of them are telling me that their books are closed to new patients...

phoned the local health board who havetold me that we have to go on a waiting list to get into a surgery..even though I explained that Im 22 weeks pregnant and a high risk pregnancy on lots of medication

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/12/2009 19:00

Hello folks, sorry I haven't been around much, there wasn't much to tell apart from that I had a bit more bleeding which I finally had properly diagnosed as a cervical erosion, phew!

But, just got back from my anomaly scan and I'm having a.......

...... girl!

I'm so pleased, I've always wanted a girl but thought it'd be too much to hope for! Hope you're all doing ok and you had a lovely christmas xxx

Haribolicious · 30/12/2009 19:24

Hi everyone....wow, this thread moves fast!
Thanks for the lovely welcome....and also 'congrats' to everyone that have had scans

Can't believe the number of girls and feel a little as we were convinced we were having pink but we're equally thrilled with another blue - just glad baby is ok!! Now have to think of names - with losing my Mum this summer, I wanted to use her name somehow (thinking about it, I suppose it may have been a bit of wishful thinking that it was gona be a pink?) anyway, knowing has meant that we can just concentrate on boy names!

omg memorylapse, that's awful....I can't believe that there aren't exceptional circumstances where surgeries will accept new patients?! Not sure what to suggest but the extra stress isn't good - hope you manage to sort something out.

James - good news on the bleeding....must be such a relief to get a diagnosis? Congrats on a girl!

Good luck to those due to have scans soon....we decided to find out the sex, even though we would have been happy with either....we just felt that knowing the sex made the baby 'real' to us and it's lovely to be able to buy 'boy' things rather than unisex stuff - not that I've bought anything yet!! This time, it's also meant that we can talk about DS1's baby brother and get him used to the idea too

itshappenedagain · 30/12/2009 19:30

hello all!
yes i have a Ds already, who has told everyone we meet that we are having a baby. i was convinced it was another boy. seems to be the month for girls, when i had Ds it was the month for boys no-one in any of the groups i went to had a girl, may be the opposite this time!
congrats to all on your scans and here is to a fab 2010 and all our healthy happy babies!

memorylapse · 30/12/2009 19:39

good grief! how many girls?..do you think the male of the species is feeling threatened right now??

wibblela · 30/12/2009 20:44

ML - not sure that they can leave you hanging like that - I am fairly sure that your previous GP has a duty of care for you and unborn child, as does the CMW. When you say the local health board do you mean your local PCT? They also have a duty of care for the both of you. Have they fully taken on board that you will need prescriptions at least? The doctor who signs them is responsible isn't he? Medical care HAS to be provided for you. They have a legal obligation don't they? Of course this is only my opinion.

kateyjane · 31/12/2009 00:14

Congratulations to everyone on their scans! Can't believe how many girls. I think I might be having a boy, just because the baby looked so laid back at our 12 wk scan! We're not going to find out (though I'm desperate to know) but DH doesn't want to know.
James - glad things are going well.
Memorylapse - like Wibblela said, I am sure that your PCT have a duty of care to look after you. Have you told your current Drs that you are moving? Could you remain there whilst going on the waiting list for another surgery? I know you're not supposed to - but my friend uses her parent's address because she didn't want to move surgeries.

LuckyC · 31/12/2009 09:18

itshappened, carikube, james, everyone - congrats on scans!

itshappened, what is cervical erosion? From your post I take it that it's not a very serious thing?

Haribo, your two boys are going to treat their mum like gold dust, never fear.

I have completely come around to the thought of having a little girl - girls ROCK.

memory you are having one sodding thing after another - here's to a calmer 2010.

Wishing us all healthy happy babies xx

LuckyC · 31/12/2009 09:18

ooh, question for all you experts - I am bloody freezing so am having very hot baths - is this OK or should I tone it down a bit? Thanks so much.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 31/12/2009 11:40

Hi LuckyC, I'm no expert but I've read that very hot baths aren't good for the baby. I think the danger is that the baby can overheat and has no way of cooling itself down, the same danger as when you have a fever. Having a hot shower probably wouldn't have the same effect as you're not immersed in it, and it's not for as long.

It was me who had the cervical erosion, no it's nothing to worry about, just a patch of cells which should be inside the cervix that have cropped up on the outside and can't handle being there iyswim (a bit like if a patch of skin from the lining of your mouth suddenly appeared on your lip, it couldn't cope with external conditions so it'd get sore/chapped/bleed) so you get bleeding sometimes after coughing, exercise, sex etc

Can't believe there's so many girls due! I'm sure it'll even out when the rest of the ladies have their scans.
