Heffa - mines the 10th and I hate it, everyones normally skint and the excitement of xmas is usually over . Glad I had dd on the 29th so most people have usually been paid.

DD had a chest infection and so has been prescribed a course of antibiotics and an inhaler though not asthmatic. Feeling better after plenty of medicine, calpol and calprofen, fingers crossed shes fine for xmas day.

Lizzie - congratulations of yet more pink

ML - good luck with your scan today

Getting very excited here, can't wait for Friday

suey2 · 23/12/2009 11:13

hello all.
Just marking my space whilst i have a catch up. Wonderful holiday, but inevitably have a stinking cold from the flight back. Bit of a shock: i seem to have put on 9.5 pounds whilst away! I hope most of that is water retention from the flight....

Carikube · 23/12/2009 11:31

Hope everyone is getting excited about Christmas and has a fab time

We're suffering from a snot river round here - given that dd is so small, I can't work out how she can be producing so much of the stuff and I feel quite sick having to deal with it. Hope the colds pass quickly!!!

schipo · 23/12/2009 11:57

Just wanted wish you all happy xmas before going off up north.

V excited to have a week and a half off work. We had a fantastic and much needed sleep in this morning and after packing a few more presents we're going to chance our luck with east coast rail. Looking forward to showing off bump to family

ml - good luck for your scan today, look forward to hearing that all is fine

hope everyone has a great holiday and at least a bit of a rest!

HeffaMerryChristmas · 23/12/2009 12:13

Sophie - glad the scan went well

Mollybob - hope you had a good lunch with you brother and he wasn't too judgemental.

AnAngelWithin - sorry you're feeling poorly. Weird about the fire alarm going off.

Hollyoaks - it's not a good time is it? Everyone always forgets mine and parties are rubbish because everyone's skint and exhausted. I end up just doing quiet afternoon tea now or a day out but I do often wish it was earlier so I could have a nice Christmassy party.

Suey2 - glad you had a good holiday

ML - hope the scan went well.

pigleychez · 23/12/2009 13:23

Congrats to all you having girls definately a pink arua round this thread at the mo.

Angel- I too have manic housework days, but tend to suffer the next day. Hope you feel better soon.

ML- good luck with your scan today.

Sophie- glad both babies are doing well.

Mollybob- hope the lunch goes ok. Just ignore him!

Hollyoaks- Hope DD gets better for Friday.

Suey- glad you had a good time

Hope those of you going away for xmas dont get disrupted too much by the snow. We have had snow here since Thursday and although it looks pretty its getting annoying now! Slowly starting to melt now.

Had a busy housework day, DD has been alittle star helping me. Caught her trying to hoover which was really sweet, then gave her a duster and she helped me to dust.

Soo tired today and had had backache and a funny achy pain in my right hand side since yesterday evening. Planning to keep an eye on it as a friend mentioned yesterday that with my high BP it could be something more (ie pre-ecampsia)

Think I may have a little nap myself now that DD is having hers!

Merry Xmas

TomlinTowers · 23/12/2009 14:43

Hi all

Just got back from scan and.....it's a girl!!

Am totally shocked but over the moon. I was SO convinced it was another boy that I have been referring to the bump as "him" for ages, so will have to adjust that! Scan pics are rubbish though, as baby was moving about so much that they couldn't get a clear shot . Hope she calms down by the time she's born....

I do admit to having had a slight "oh, not a brother for DS1" but I think I would have had that about a girl if I had been having another DS, iyswim. We are thrilled. DH has gone into work to tell everyone about it. First thing he said was "we'll have to start saving up for the wedding". Think he's forgotten that in the days of gender equality we'll have to pay for half DS's wedding as well!

Just waiting in for the plumber now - oh the joy.

ML - I hope everything goes OK with your scan. I shouldn't worry about the meds. My friend was on honeymoon when she conceived, and was wasted on cocktails every night for the first three weeks of her baby's life, and she was absolutely convinced she had hurt the baby somehow, but it was absolutely fine. I think they are really protected by the placenta etc so hopefully everything should be OK.

Our snow is starting to melt here, but it's got to that horrible slush stage which then refreezes at night, making the roads ten times worse than if it was just snow. My BIL and his partner are travelling over from Brussels today to my MIL's in the Lakes, so fingers crossed they make it safely!

Sophie about your muscles, but hopefully with the right type of management you will get them back. I have never seen anyone walking around with their tummy on the floor, so they must go back eventually?! Good news on your scan.

Heffa -hope your DH gets better in time for Xmas Day.

SK - internet supermarket shopping is the best. We had our Xmas Tesco delivery on Sunday night. It is lovely to open the fridge or cupboard and see it stocked full of lovely things to eat!

To anyone else that i have missed who has had good scan results - congratulations!!

AnAngelWithin · 23/12/2009 15:08

congrats tomlin!!! another girl!!! yay!! I am kinda hoping mine is a girl but I don't think it will be.

AnAngelWithin · 23/12/2009 15:09

yes the fire alarm was weird....what was even weirder was DD2 saying someone was crying in her room last night. I am panicking now as i can't get hold of my elderly grandmother like i usually do.....

memorylapse · 23/12/2009 15:40

Tomlin..congrats on your little girl

Im back from my scan and baby is fine..sonographer saw everything she needed to, except she couldnt get a 5th view of the heart but she wasnt concerned but has arranged a follow up scan just to cover all bases...baby is definitely a girl and was very wriggly..she kept putting her hands over her face as if she was shy!..got a lovely pic though..she seems to have the same profile as DS...sonographer was lovely..explained everything she was doing and was very reassuring..pic on profile

sweetkitty · 23/12/2009 17:14

Girls girls and more girls [grin

Tomlin - that's great news congrats

ML - to you too now hope your mind is put at rest and you can enjoy Christmas.

So fridge is well stocked, cupboards bursting, presents all but 2 are wrapped and we are all set been doing some housework today but trying to take it easy. Haven't been out today well apart from a walk and a play in the snow which is SO deep. Only had a little bit today so hopefully that will be it. DP trying to plug the gaps in the downstairs loo floor.

memorylapse · 23/12/2009 17:23

SK..I feel like I can look forward to christmas now.

looks like lots of peeps are going to have a white christmas..we escaped the snow thank goodness..except a light icing sugar dusting..but its still there as the temp hasnt got above freezing.

Vicky204 · 23/12/2009 18:03

Congrats ML on the scan, I feel exactly the same about mine convinced something is wrong and will not be happy until 2nd scan on 7th Jan. My friend keeps telling me I should be talking to the baby now, but as I can't feel it kick and am worried about the scan I'm finding it hard to connect.

I was also made redundant in June and fell pregnant almost straight away, which has left me constantly worried about work and money which isn't helping. DP is being great about it, telling me everything will be ok. I've been going to interviews and got 2nd and 4ths in Jan but I'm worried I'll be showing a lot more by then, at the moment I'm quite small and you can't really tell. Just think once they realise I'm pregnant they'll be like see ya later! Even though by law they're not allowed.

Guess I'm just worrying too much and should enjoy being pregnant, I think I'll be a lot better after 2nd scan.

Merry Christmas to everyone and just think next year we'll be able to enjoy the Champers again!!

mollybob · 23/12/2009 18:52

More girls!!! Delighted scan went well ML. Lunch was ok but exhausting. We used to be really close but now see each other about twice a year and he grills me when we're together to know everything about everything. More often lately this has been in front of my parents and it's impossible to talk openly. Last time was just after an early mc I had in April and he was psychoanalysing how down I was in that stereotypical "US everyone who is anyone should see a shrink" way. Today was better as no audience and things are better with DH's health and me being happily and so far healthily pg but still tiring. Eating macaroni cheese DH made as I'm craving it - Nigella's recipe - Yum!

pamelat · 23/12/2009 19:10

had my scan at lunch today and all is well

and I was right! I am having a boy.

Despite "knowing" I was having a boy, feeling so different than with DD, a lot less sick and less faint and not being quite as big yet, it still felt a huge shock.

Obviously the main thing is that he is healthy but we couldnt help feeling slightly deflated iniatially. I really feel a cow for saying that. I think its just that after DD and all the babies I know being girls, I cant imagine having a boy.

DH is also quite short (5ft 6 or 7ish) so says he worries a boy will be short and picked on

Anyway having spent the afternoon with everyone telling us how lucky we are to have one of each we have really come round to the idea.

I now feel quite protective of my "son" and feel that he is going to be fab and a whole lot easier than my very assertive, beautiful, independent daughter!!

Congrats to all of you with good news scans.

Happy Christmas to you all.

I may get another cat and call her Maisie! I think I was more upset about not being able to use the name, silly me.

memorylapse · 23/12/2009 19:25

Pamela congrats on your scan..when I was preg with DS1..I already had DD and was convinced I was having another girl so it was quite a shock to find he was a boy..he has been such an easy child though..even at 15 he still gives us little to stress about as opposed to DD who I blame for my grey hair!..

pamelat · 23/12/2009 19:32

Thank you ML. I really do think its more shock (despite thinking it was a boy anyway?!!) rather than being upset or anything as serious as that.

I feel a bit odd and like I wont know how to look after him?! Am already worrying about cleaning the poo off his willy. Silly I know.

However, DD and I are fairly highly strung so we need some peace in the family, hopefully in the form of DS!

And who says we will stop at two

memorylapse · 23/12/2009 19:51

pamela..dont worry so much about cleaning the poo off him..its getting peed on you will have to avoid..seriously though..yep it is different cleaning round little boys bits but you will soon get the hang of it

AnAngelWithin · 23/12/2009 21:13

boys are easier to clean than girls i find! And agree with ML, its the weeing you need to worry about!!! as soon as its free....WOOSH!!! lol

OP posts:
wibblela · 23/12/2009 22:40

MIL says that putting a piece of tissue over willy stops you getting wee'd on - she's had two boys, and I bow to her experience in this matter, if in nothing else

It's really good to hear of the scans that went well I don't have mine until 5 Jan 2010, and am anxious to have it now - want to see the creature which has been kicking me from the inside! But I will abide what they have said and have it later It's not like I have any choice in the matter!

Feeling kicks is so weird, but fantastic at the same time - LO is my first. Helps me realise that this hasn't been all in my head. Bump hasn't grown much, so have not much evidence from that. Until I see the scan, the kicks are pretty much it!

Had some lovely presents today Friend who lives in Australia sent through some reusable nappies! I was speechless, they are not cheap! She has sent me some Bambino Mio and some BumGenius ones. I am still in shock. She has been so lovely and it was completely unexpected

TomlinTowers · 23/12/2009 23:34

Pamela - boys are lovely, don't worry. DS1 is much more affectionate than the girls I know - lots of hugs and kisses, which is lovely, whereas the girls tend to me be more independent in my (limited) experience. And cleaning boys' bits is fine, just always have a cloth over your knee that you can flip up over the willy if when he starts weeing!

wibblela - nice friend!

ML - so glad your scan went well!

Well, having said our snow was going we are now in the middle of a weather warning for heavy snow! It is snowing at the moment - am going sledging tomorrow at the local park, can't wait!

Am also starting to plan a last holiday for me, DH and DS1 for some late winter sun, prob end of Jan, somewhere child-friendly, not too far to travel....any suggestions welcome please! I am not very well travelled!

MoggMum · 24/12/2009 00:00

Tomlin Canary Islands probably nearest for Winter Sun at about 4 hour flight. We're off to Spain in Feb although the weather may well still be quite cold there!

Vicky I know how you feel re not connecting. I've not felt any kicks yet and looking forward to scan next week to reassure me that all is ok. I think with a first pregnancy it can take a bit longer before you feel the kicks. Would be a nice Xmas present though!

Been on this thread since it started on the last one but am just 'watching' from the shadows - new to MN, first LO and not good at this tinternet stuff.

Congrats to all who had scans and found out having healthy boys/girls/? and hope we do get the bloom we were promised in the 2nd trimester!

Hope everyone has a merry christmas and a lovely new year and all are safe with their travels in the snow and ice.
