Congrats WMDO and welcome baby Olivia! Am getting soooo excited!

Hoorah also for those finishing work. Hopefully you will all get a chance to put your feet up and rest before the LO's arrive!

ampster · 17/12/2009 21:17

congrats WMDO! wow all these early babies... i hadn't realised it was so common for them to arrive before 40 weeks! and here i am fretting about overdueness and inductions!

devotion i thought babies could engage and then unengage? hope for your sake it pops out again so you can have your homebirth!

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 17/12/2009 21:31

Congratulations wmdo and baby olivia. The arrivals section is filling up nicely with babys with lovely names and all seem to be good weights.

mistletoe I too am soooooooooo excited, me and my dd whos 6 were just saying we can't wait to see what our baby is and what it looks like.

I'm 3/5ths apparently, so is that 2 parts in?? my brain is mush.

Hopw everyone has had a good day.

Brilliant news WMDO many congratulations!!!
You sound much happier sazlocks
I'm now officially finished my works as of today - feels amazing! Sods law I go into labour tonight...

mistletoekisses · 18/12/2009 07:52

So any new arrivals last night??

We have lots of lovely snow here, have to admit that had a moment of worry as thought about going into labour midst snowfall - but the night passed by uneventfully!

DH has had to work from home today because of it, what a shame! I feel a coffee break snowball fight coming on later.

Hope everyone ok.

Sock - did you cave and get some shopping done online?

sockmonkey · 18/12/2009 08:02

Massive congratulations WMDO - we are probably going to have Olivia as a middle name. Hope you are fully recovered soon.

MK I tried to do some shopping online yesterday, but every toy the boys have put on their lists have sold out...ARGH!!

It's DS2's very last day at Nursery today. I am fairly sure I will make a fool of myself and cry when I pick him up. His Nursery is so lovely and the staff are all great... at least I know in 3 years time I'll be back again!

Thankfully no sign of baby being ready to go. All you ladies having early babies are getting me worried.

Mama2b5 · 18/12/2009 08:33

with all these early arrival Congrats to WMDO and her bundle of joy Olivia - my sil name!

Does that mean that my date goes up on the list!
Kids have no school so, they are goin to be here moaning that they want to go out in snow and that they dont mind braving it for school party, they are clueless that its the teachers who are having such issues getting to work!

not impressed, but what can i do south london is snowed in, Pray that snow melts or we are goin to go stir crazy!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 18/12/2009 10:06

Well my DH did make it home from London last night, very worse for wear! He has, thankfully, decided to "work from home" today due to probable traffic problems and having a pg wife (didn't stop him last night)... but in reality he is still in bed sleeping off his hangover!

I have decided to keep the kids off school, even though school is open as 1) DD has hacking cough, 2) DS has a tinsy bit of a cold and 3) much more importantly I really can't be arsed to get in the car and struggle along the side roads and risk the treacherous walk down the school path!!

So they've been out playing in snow already, DD is now back in complaining of her feet hurting and DS has found a friend of his also has taken day off school so they've gone sledging.

Promised to make gingerbread house with them later...

Happy Friday everyone... Shiny - 6 days left for you!!!!

Siochfradha · 18/12/2009 10:18

Hello! Its taken me about 5 months to figure out that there would be a Due January 2010 post. I am a doofus.

Am due January 26th - I slot into a gap on your list nicely! So expecting to give birth mid-February. This is my first and I think its a boy (first babies in my family always are). And they always seem to be late

All quite lovely so far apart from accidently weeing myself as I coughed in queue for a danish this morning. Nothing like an accidental wee to negate positive effect of wearing decent outfit and make up! But sister (and mother of 4 and therefore fount of all knowledge) tells me this is the 'heavy fanny' stage. Ah well...

Look forward to keeping in touch and seeing how we all get on.

crumpette · 18/12/2009 10:43

welcome Siochfrada! heavy fanny stage indeed

WMDO huge congratulations to you on the arrival of Olivia, she sounds absolutely beautiful!!! (3 day labour..??!!! !) Lovely name choice ! x

well done Olivia arriving in time for Christmas!

Hope everyone else is OK- Lottie, how are your little ones?

Alibobins, hope Jacob is picking up x

somewhathorrified · 18/12/2009 10:57

Welcome Sioch, at the wee incident, and all for a danish, I hope it was a great danish.

whens congratulations on Olivia. It's strange to see the movements from 'Expected' to 'arrived'.

Well I had my last antenatal class last night, taken by a MW who actual does HB's. She laughed when she realised who my MW was saying that she's never there and doesn't remember the last HB she attended. Anyway found out that there are actually 3 HB's booked in and that they have never had an overlap of births so can breathe a huge sigh of relief, although pissed at my MW for freaking me out so much for no reason.

Finally got snow here...yay, I love that clean whiteness.

crumpette · 18/12/2009 10:58

Today is my last day at work, I am quite pleased ..............!!!

sazlocks I think you mentioned my work in a post recently, they have been much better thanks in recent months. Really really bad til about Oct but my emails paid off in the end. I'm not unhappy about leaving though!!

I had better go and actually do some work before I depart, taking annual leave til January then maternity leave, unless baby arrives earlier

have just realised I still haven't packed a hospital bag... !!!

crumpette · 18/12/2009 11:01

somewhat, sorry x-posted, hope you are feeling more confident now after speaking to a nicer better informed MW! a teeeny bit of snow here but none has settled...

CantThinkofFunnyName · 18/12/2009 11:18

Welcome Siochfrada. LOL at your peeing incident this morning. But very happy that others are suffering actually!

I've been having accidents like this since very early on, being DC3 and Tena Lady Minis are a daily wardrobe accessory! Indeed, this morning I forgot to place pad in knickers and an hour later had to go change trousers due to nasty dark mark in rather obvious place

DH still in bed sleeping - now going to wake him up as there are jobs for him to do!!

OP posts:
crumpette · 18/12/2009 11:28

well I'm still avoiding work I figure I have worked really hard recently

I just had a peek at londonlottie's profile page---- pictures of Juliet and Eve!!!! OMG it brought a tear to my eye they are so so gorgeous! x

bigpreggybelly · 18/12/2009 11:57

Ha ha! Yes I've had one or two massive peeing incidents - one at around 25 weeks when DP tried to get in a hammock on holiday and fell out the other side (literally pissed myself laughing), then another a couple of weeks ago (34 weeks ish) when DP sticks his belly out trying to imitate mine (yes, pissed myself laughing).

But the worst one was at a NCT class about 6 weeks ago when DP tries to demonstrate a TENS machine on my arm and wacks it right up to full blast in the space of 3 seconds! Pissed myself screaming as my arm was twitching and felt like one of those cartoon characters being electrocuted! Terrified of the machines ever since - even though I've ordered one and its arrived, I'm too scared to use it!! DP wants to try out the machine on his you know what, but I said the 4 pads were too big to all fit on at the same time!! Ha ha!

MissMarjoribanks · 18/12/2009 11:57

Hello all - long time no post. It has taken me ages to catch up, so sorry for anybody's news I have missed.

Congratulations to lottie, Claire and WMDO on their babies - lovely names one and all. I'm getting some company on the arrived list now.

Ali - Hope baby Jacob is OK.

Congrats also to devotion on passing her driving test. I don't envy you the weather as a new driver though - I've been driving for 12 years and still hate snowy and icy conditions.

Thomas is still in SCBU - getting him to feed properly is a real struggle. He latches on for about 10 seconds, then lets go and never really gets back on again properly. He's still getting fully tube fed and it is extremely unlikely he'll be with us for Christmas. He also lost a load of weight when we tried to establish breastfeeding over 24 hours and his jaundice returned.

I am trying to look on the positive side - I have a healthy little boy, who just happens to have been a bit early. Time will sort him out, but I can't help but feel a little bit despondent at the moment.

Fraochsmum · 18/12/2009 12:39

Lovely to hear from you again missmarjorie and thanks for the update on Thomas. I'm sure you are disappointed he won't be back for Christmas, but he is in the best place for the time being.
Welcome Siochfradha (I assume that's gaelic?) and great description of this stage! At our antenatal classes the mw said if you had leakage problems before birth then it was really important to do the pelvic floor exercises after, because you would be more prone to it continuing.
Had another mw check today (37+4) and all is well, baby not engaged yet but thought he would be by next week. I suggested next Friday might not be the most suitable, but as she pointed out, she is working - fair dos I think! We compromised for Sunday though
Stepmum took me shopping earlier - 1 moses basket, rocking stand, and 3 blankets later...
Better go and get ready for my 3 course Christmas lunch, think I will go for the mass boobage maternity top - I want to enjoy them in case they disappear again after cashew!
Enjoy your last day crumpette x

flyingma · 18/12/2009 12:43

FFS - take 2 at typing this - fat fingers went and hit a Quick Link and I lost my post!

MissMarjoribanks you are doing the right thing by trying to stay positive. Wee Thomas just needs a bit of time to try to get to grips with the mechanics of feeeding etc - I can imagine if I didn't know any different (being a newborn) and were being drip fed, I too would be confused with feeding/ suckling. I hope the NHS are being supportive and here's sending you lots of hugs and support!!

devotion WD on the driving test! Did your instructor get through much ironing when you were on test? It will be great when you can get your own set of smaller wheels coz we had that prob too. But it is good to get used to DH's car too so that in future you can easily switch between the 2. Don't worry re the bum size - do what I do and make up for the lack of walking by walking around the shops instead... you'll be surprised how far some car parks are from shops you need to go to!!

For all those hmm-ing and ha-ing about doing your driving test, please please do give it a go. No such thing as too late... don't listen to anyone else's opinion. You are doing it for you... and will be the best gift you can give yourself - take it from someone who took 8 attempts to pass.

WMDO Congrats on baby Olivia. I hope you are doing well too!! LOL re the hypnobirthing comment - I guess at least you tried whatever was available to you but at the end of the day, medical science has progressed thus far you may as well make it work for you!

mama2b5 Happy belated birthday hon. Hope you shake off that cold soon... I am still coping with mine but had to miss aquanatal class and coffee with the other mums-to-be this week coz of it. Did you make up your mind re your pushchair/ stroller yet? I finally got my carseat but have since shelved thinking about my stroller. Plenty of time yet (she says hopefully) and worst case scenario, I have my baby carriers ready.

saz Glad you had a lovely evening, esp with the worry re DH's job and all. I am glad he is feeling more positive... shame re the timing but it could well be the best thing for you as a family unit coz going it on his own could mean more flexible working hours? Try not to worry too much for now... only so much you can do. Mmm pasta... going off to hunt for food now.

thegrumpallo · 18/12/2009 13:27

ah yes flyingma; had similar experience at 5:30am when thought I had posted - but post mysteriously is not now on here.

Congratulations to wmdo with arrival of baby- hope that your bf improves /settles very quickly.

And really well done devotion on getting that licence. Am with those who think really is worth the pain. So good to be just that little bit more independent.

Well today woke to pathetic amount of snow but much ice, including on the walkway in front of my door ( live in block of flats) . Which - once again, as happens every time it snows- had not been salted and was very icey. Q slippery journey taking DD2 to nursery. So called council and someone got earbashing.

TBH, council was just a convenient victim. I think I'd be able to rage at a newborn puppy at the moment; I'm so IRRITABLE!!

(hence the name change... am formerly known as showmethemummy)

Fibilou · 18/12/2009 13:55

Can you put me on the "expected" list - 24/01 - first baby and rumoured to be a girl

Went for my booking appointment at Crowborough Birth Unit this morning in the heavy snow - we had to walk about 1/2 a mile and I felt very intrepid !

I have just had my placenta confirmed out of the way (was very low lying) so after the relief of not having to have a C section for that the MW said today "I think the baby might be breech" - for which I'll be offered (and would take) an ELCS !!!! But on the bright side I get yet another scan at 36 weeks to check - which will be 4 scans for a perfectly normal and textbook pregnancy ! I'm just hoping it's because it was a different MW to normal as every other appointment she's been head down towards the exit - and she was at the scan last week. So please keep your fingers crossed.

The unit is lovely and there were 2 ladies there with their hours-old babies. I couldn't bring myself to come away from one of them and had a strong desire to steal it . Can't wait till it's my turn

mowmi · 18/12/2009 14:01

Just popped on to see how everyone is and to see if any of our Jan babies fancied a Dec birthday instead....
Congratulations to all of you - Lottie the girls are so beautiful and such great weights!
Well done ladies x
