MOAN ALERT!!!! Sorry If I say this often but because I am a relatively straight forward pg no5 and all that, no health problems etc, I usually end up being seen by a student mw, which makes my appointments very long as they have to have everything double checked, but I am happy to do so. Well I went to see mw at GP surgery today, sods law not usual mw (one I've never ever met before)

Starts off, so your 34 weeks are you, I haven't read that far back??
Me - no I'm 36 wks on sat so 35+4 today
mw - er ok, any probs
Me- no
mw-did you bring a sample
Me- er no I forgot I can't believe I forgot sorry
mw- we need one EVERY time you know
Me- I know I'll go and do one now (looks at notes-shes wrote 33+ in gest). er I'm 35+4
mw- oh ok then and changes it to 34
Me- Im atually 35+4 nearly 36wks
mw- yeah okay

so I pee on stick
mw- Oh you've got trace of blood, your probably getting an infection, we'll listen to babys heartbeat

ok on couch, she can't find it, so I say its usually on the other side. Oh no matter she says as long as its moving.

mw- right ok then we'll see you in two wks, by the way you've not seen any bleeding have you (after thought or what)

OMG - No offence but give me a student any time, they are pleasant, precise and go out of their way to ensure everything is present and correct. I am completely convinced that the more times you have a baby the less any one gives a shit.

Sorry moan over, hope everyone else had a good day, happy birthday mama. I have yr2 nativity tomorrow Yah

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 16/12/2009 21:49

By the way just checked my notes and the silly cow has left it at 34, so on Monday I was 35+2 and on weds I'm 34, jesus I'm going backwards. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

ampster · 16/12/2009 22:39

happy birthday to mama2b5 and devotion congrats on passing your driving test! i really wanted to learn to drive before the little one gets here, but my dad told me i shouldn't learn as i would be too "hormonal" to cope (bloody sexist!) and i actually listened to him (how stupid am i????)!!!

hey yangymac they didn't seem too worried about the PPH (at least, until the MW i saw the other day). i've heard there's no such thing as a tendency to have them - it's more random than that. last time i was induced (which can make the uterus tired, therefore less able to push out placenta) - i'm hoping that this time I won't need an induction so that won't be a factor. anyway, we'll see - i'd still rather labour and deliver at home and then go to hospital for the third stage, than do the whole thing there with the increased chance of interventions and so on.

also heard recently that homebirths are way way way cheaper for the NHS than hospital deliveries. even though the midwives give you one-to-one care, that costs the NHS much less than having you take up a hospital bed, have interventions and so on. another thing in their favour!

sockmonkey · 17/12/2009 07:43

Sorry I missed it, but Happy Birthday Mama2b5

I am getting increasingly tired. Not been able to slot my daytime naps in with the boys having concerts/partys etc. I have not been able to muster up the energy to go christmas shopping either. I was hoping I could get out with DH and get it done on saturday in the car, but he's going to the movies with his workmate. He says we can go on wednesday when he is off work. Argh! We have bought 1 present so far.

mistletoekisses · 17/12/2009 08:49

Morning all!

Sock - you are not alone. I am absolutely shattered this morning! Is there anyway that you can go the shopping online? You can get express deliveries from a few places still.

Sixmince - your MW sounds like a total numpty!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

mistletoekisses · 17/12/2009 08:50

Oh and Mama2b - belated happy birthday! Hope you had a fab day. Are you decided on the Spin pushchair then?

Fraochsmum · 17/12/2009 09:10

Hahaha, not stupid ampster - hormonal!!! My bil works offshore and was looking after his 3 dc's (1 1/2 - 5yo) on his own for a couple of days, so fil spoke about how hard it was for him to organise their various daily activities. When I pointed out that sil does it every day herself he said "but it's different for men"
Oh dear sixmincepies, I would come out really dissatisfied with that rubbish. Heres hoping you get a student in a couple of weeks.
Today is my first full day of maternity! It was bliss not having to set the alarm, although I had to get up twice with the damn dogs barking... Still have to work 2 1/2 days next week, but feels great!
Hope all those with snow are enjoying it x

hello
devotion well done for passing your test! I am v embarrassed to say I have never learnt to drive I really want to, especially with DCs, but when I was 17/18 I was living abroad so didn't think I should learn then, then I have lived in London for past few years and still haven't got around to it (excuse being public transport) I think the longer you leave it the more nerve-wracking it gets, so a big well done to you for doing it and for passing !!!

no news from me, getting scared am now 37+1. I have only had one mw appt at the hospital as I then moved, so I don't know anything about the labour ward or what I should do if I go into labour or waters break etc, aaah, I'm kind of wishing I was having this baby at St Thomas's where I had DD

silly worries really! Last minute panic I think, the realisation that I have to get this baby out somehow and I don't have months and months to ignore that fact!

sixmincepies a mw I saw at GP practice a while ago insisted on writing the wrong gestation in my notes and making me less preg than I was, even though I told her my dates, she said no and even when I told her how many weeks and days precisely I was she ignored me and didn't change my notes at all
she actually made me 3 weeks 4 days less pregnant than I was... I'm not sure why she did it, an off day perhaps? maybe it's apractical joke bored mws play on hormonal pregnant ladies? I haven't had the same problem since. v strange!

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 17/12/2009 11:23

morning everyone!

Devotion well done on passing your test just in time for baby to so you can get out and about!!

Sixmincepies and crumpette do midwives do that? scvrew about with dates I wonder why though?? Mine always says its diff by a couple of days but weeks

Anyone else really struggling now? Ok I know im behind compared to most of you and not 35 weeks till Monday but OMG its such an effort doing anything.... Rolling over in bed etc. Midwife estimated babies size the other day not from the measuring tape but by feeling him she thinks hes 5 1/2 to 6 pounds right now. Said i wont be having a teeny baby but he wont be a porker either He certainly feels that size when hes squirming about!

No snow here just lovely blue skies! just bloody cold........

somewhathorrified · 17/12/2009 11:53

Happy Birthday to those who I've missed.

Sock You are seriously missing the joys of internet shopping and next day delivery .

hurry you are not alone on the struggling front. Just getting of the sofa requires a sequence of timed rocking with a grab of the sofa arm to get up. I really do feel/look like a weeble.

I can't work out if I might have a UTI or whether bub is sitting on my urinary tract. I've got no pain, don't need the toilet more, but when I go it's only a pathetic dribble TMI, sorry. Anyone know?

sockmonkey · 17/12/2009 12:12

Ha! I did look at some internet stores, but hate having to pay for postage... I am such a cheapskate!
Just got back from DS1s christmas concert and it was snowing. DS2 kept himself amused in church by playing his Nintendo laying under a pew. At least he was fairly quiet. This time next year he'll be singing too.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 17/12/2009 12:36

Hi all

Feeling better today, thanks for the comments. I really thought last night was it, Kept having really painful tightenings but they wore off in the end. Everytime baby moves though I get a bad pain in my fanjo, its as if the baby is screwing its head right down. Maybe its trying to get out on its own, either way its very painful.

Anyway on a happier note, been to dd (6) navity play (the bossy king) today, she told me the words she had to say but she really had two speaking bits and then loads of action parts, it was really good they were all wonderful (of course dd was the best lol) and have then been to lunch with my mummy and daddy, I am about to fall onto the couch stuffed.

Hope everyone is okay today - no snow but again bloody cold.

35+5 - not long to go

bethoo · 17/12/2009 12:48

i am getting alot of movement
i wish i could rest but haveto take dd to drs to have her mmr today then will get some fruit nad veg (starting healthy kick today).
did some Pilates last night so feeling good! mind you i ma bigger than the preggy lady on it now!
i find bedtime most uncomfortable as get pain lying on side so still sleeping on back!
congrats Devotion on passing your test! i doubt i will ever do mine i failed three times and gave up as have no confidence at all and managed so far without! albeit difficult at times!
and happy belated birthdays since there are a few with birthdays this month.
hope everyone is well and any news on the babies who have already joined us?

Mama2b5 · 17/12/2009 13:21

Hi all -thanks for all the bday messages!
DH coked up a plan to get me out with his cousin and when i got back had some close friends here, walked in to quick for the whole " Surprise" DH was dissapointed cousin never told him we were back! never mind i got some lovley perfume sets my fav gifts ever! and also some pampering sets for after baby!

Sore throat not to bad now! my cake was lovely although it said ermm 21 on it! haaha DH is funny! my poor body doesnt feel how it did when i was 21 or look like a body of 21 yr!

am i the only one whose mw doesnt measure or weigh me so clueless about baby weight gain or size!

Fibilou · 17/12/2009 13:56

I'm off on ML after Christmas so Xmas Eve is my last working day - and I've had to start saying goodbye to the part-timers and people on holiday next week.
Next time I see them I will have a baby . It's really sinking in now

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/12/2009 14:21

Mama - belated HB wishes to you! What a lovely thing your DH did .

Sixmince - WTF? The mw sounds a nightmare. Don't blame you for being mightily pissed off with her. Crumpette - same for you really!

I've noticed in my notes, not quite on the same level, but they keep writing in my wrong age . Also, the reason I am having a section is because I had something called an artery dissection just over a year ago which is wear the artery from heart to head tears spontaneously. It moulded itself back together so all ok now, but a weakness there. The obs team keep writing in vertebral artery ANEURISM - which is completely different (and means a clot). I've decided I'm going to go through the notes and change the errors, putting my initials next to each amended note. Seriously, if something goes wrong for me, the treatment would likely be different for an aneurism to a dissection and don't want them screwing that up!

Anyway, snow didn't last long but have seen severe weather warnings that the South East is supposed to get 20cm of snow by midnight tonight and of course, my DH is being allowed his one massive night out on the p*ss tonight with old college mates. Will be sods law that he gets stuck in town and not able to get home! I'm sure everything will be fine, but I do panic about those kind of things being so close to delivery now. And the snow has just started in earnest.... hmmmmmm

Hope everyone else doing well today .

CTOFN - oh, my DH is out tonight in town too, i can see the trains being stopped (something I've learnt since moving to the SE from the North, two snowflakes means SE trains stop working) and I am not driving to get him from town.

Anyway, I've started a bit of a bun fight over on AIBU - i had a rubbish breastfeeding class with the NCT last night - pointless waste of time as lots of talk about how breastfeeding is great but not much on how to do it.

Mama - my MW measures me but hasn't weighed me, hasn't mentioned how big the baby should be. might ask when i'm there on Monday.

mistletoekisses · 17/12/2009 15:37

Hi All

I feel totally and utterly drained today. Thank goodness it coincides with DS being at nursery, otherwise I think he may have had a few dvd's while mummy rested!
I dont remember being this tired with DS; but then I dont think my memory is the most reliable!

Fakeplastic - saw your AIBU thread on bfeeding. It kicks off fairly regularly on bfeeding threads, so dont take it too personally. . Mnet is a great support for breastfeeding, but I will also say that a lot of peoples views are that it can get very militant on exclusively breastfeeding only. I found MNET invaluable sometimes, but it also put me in real quandrys occasionally. So my only advice is to take some of the advice with a pinch of salt, do what works for you. And ensure you use the NCT bfeeding counsellor once the bub is here if needed.

CTFN - I do wonder if the snow will be as bad as they say, they dont always get it right. Am sure all will be ok.

Crumpette - is there a delivery suite number on your notes? Isnt that the number you call if anything starts to happen?

SWH - when I wasnt sure about having a UTI, I popped along to my GP's first thing (minus an appt), and the nurse checked my urine straightaway. Maybe worthwhile doing also? Although I too am having to go to the toilet every 2 mins with not much appearing.
I remember my first pee after DS was born, it seemed to go on for hours.

Hello to everyone else!

devotion · 17/12/2009 19:11

Hello all!

Last day working today, hooray!

Went for my 34 week midwife appointment and she said the baby is fully engaged and if i want my homebirth then I need to keep this baby in until at least 37 weeks - yikes!

She also said my blood pressure is up and it needs to go down if I want my homebirth.

The best bit was she has told me to take it easy, so it's official - I have to do nothing. I like that

I had a very full on stressful day starting off with lots of shouting as we all got up late and yesterday with my driving test palava I must have had high blood pressure so I am sure its because of that.

So from now on I must relax.

Anyone else's baby fully engaged?

Whilst I was getting measured (still measuring small but she said it was because baby is engaged) the baby was really stretching out and making my belly odd shapes. the midwife said to me, "its because you have very weak muscles my dear" I dont think I have thank you very much!!!... maybe i do then

Fakeplastic i agree with mistletoekisses about bf advice on here and I would stay clear of those AIBU threads because they always attract angry people or pmt fuelled women . I have to say I got great advice on bf with this website.

I never did nct classes and knew nothing about bf, i was lucky there were lovely midwives at the hospital and spent ages helping me. One lady told me to buzz her whenever is started a feed and she watched my latch. You could always ask a midwife to do when you start each feed at hospital. I am sure they would be happy to help. Also get an NCT bf to visit you at home or you can call them up too. You should also have a local bf meeting group that are run by health visitors. They meet around lunch time normally so you feed your baby whilst getting advice.

Also if you know any new mums who are bf and their babies are about a month older then they would be very helpful to you.

Mama2b5 glad your throat is getting better

Thank you to for all my congrats messages. I drove to pick dd2 up from nursery today by myself and really enjoyed it. Was not nervous so thats good. Think I will be when meeting traffic on narrow roads until I get use to teh size of our car. Wish we had a nice neat one like the one I learnt in.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/12/2009 19:24

Devotion - yikes, fully engaged?! I thought that second and subsequent babies didn't fully engage until labour was literally about to begin. That's usually what the medics say anyway. So no, I'm definitely not engaged - not a jot, but then if I was, it would be baby's bottom!

I bought some extra xmas lights and bits and pieces today as I felt the house looked a little bare. When it came to putting up some "curtain" lights that I bought, I couldn't untangle them properly and got so cross with them. The light surrounds kept falling off and poor DCs were trying to help me but I guess I was not in the best of moods . Another job that needs to wait for DH at the weekend methinks.... Feel quite bloody useless.

OP posts:
sazlocks · 17/12/2009 19:48

Evening all - all good here - one more day to go at work - YAY. DH feeling a bit more positive with all work hoo hah and thinking it might provide an opportunity to start out on his own - YIKES.
So DH out on the lash tonight so am in making the last of my xmas cards with a huge bowl of pasta and Its a Wonderful Life on DVD for company. Happy wriggly baby inside me. Does life get any better than this ???

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/12/2009 19:51

Sazlocks - that sounds like a lovely evening!

I've just finished doing a crib sheet for my DCs in case I go into labour and can't get hold of DH! How anal is that? It consists of numbered points 1-8 and an order of phone calls I or they are to make to various people, relatives, 999 etc!!!

Think I may have finally lost all sense and sensibility!!!

Very quickly.....

Baby Olivia was born on Tuesday 15/12/09 at 0243 weighing 6lbs at 36+6 (exactly same as my DS, spooky)!

I managed a VBAC. After 3 days of labour, finding GBS and on high risk monitoring - It was less hypnobirthing and more, thank you god for mobile epidurals but amazing all the same!

She is a beautiful early xmas surprise with huge blus eyes and thick black hair and Im so happy she is here, even if my bleeding nipples aren't!!

I havent got time to read anything as breast feed number 43 today is about to commence but I had a quick scan to see how alibobbins little JAcob is and can't see anything.

Please let me know, have to dash. Good luck everyone else and could someone kindly add Olivia to the arrivals list as I won't get back on here for a while I bet. xx

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/12/2009 20:15

WMDO - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Wow, I wondered if you were in labour as hadn't heard anymore from you. Well, if my surprise is a girl, it will be called Olivia too - so obviously I greatly approve of your name choice . I'll update the arrivals list - off you go and look after your beautiful new baby daughter. Envious x
