Wooooooo hooooooo!!!!!

annamama · 02/12/2009 16:59

How could you find the new thread before I had even posted to say it's done? Very keen, well done, and the snow angel sounds lovely too!

Rindercella · 02/12/2009 17:06

Hey, liking the new thread title! Somehow I expect the taxi-driver status to still apply for me though

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Full of colds, bugs, chest and ear infections...they seem to have come one straight after another and have rather knocked me for six. Am on ABs at the moment and feeling terribly guilty about that and having to take some paracetamol. Coupled with resorting to CBeebies/PeppaPig being on for most of --the day more than I'd like, makes me feel a very guilty person indeed.

Anyhow, it has convinced me to get the SF jab.

Hope everyone is ok and all the babies to be are well

donttrythisathome · 02/12/2009 17:08

Here I am!

I've been to that restaurant Manda - lovely food. I certainly did NOT speak to anyone at the table though...shudder at the thought

Marking my spot... It would grieve me if I couldn't find you!

MummyElk · 02/12/2009 19:46

hellooooo!!! runs in....circles around like an excited doggy and stops just short of marking her territory in the pristine white snow...(sings "yellow snow" to the tune of "Let It Snow") (and then sneezes and does a little wee anyway)
sorry to have ruined your Snow Angel arcadie

rindercella hope you are on the mend soon, I could have written your post frankly so i know how you feel, sending lots of un-mn sympathy across the ether.....definitely made my mind up on the old vaccine too!

I'm on beer 2....(alcohol free, bien sur) and frankly it's having some sort of placebo effect, i feel brilliant!! Maybe it's the steak looming for tea....

and yes manda i also love that restaurant, yum, donttry were you on my table too?!! I Did Not Converse....

definitely recommend the [[http://www.naomistadlen.com/what_mothers_do.htm Naomi Stadlen Book] in fact if anyone wants one soonish, I have three... i got a bit excited when i bought them with my shiny newborn in front of me...thought i'd give them to other mums and, er, never got round to it....

MummyElk · 02/12/2009 19:47

bollocks i hate it when i bugger up a post. sorry. should have put two thingies at the end of that link..

Arcadie · 02/12/2009 19:59

Just so that we've got one on here that we can balls up refer to.

annamama · 02/12/2009 20:13

at MummyElk-doggy... aha I didn't get it at first, you're both talking about snow as in a brand new white thread... I was like, eh where does Arcadie live, surely she can't have snow already?

Well I'm riding my snowboard off-piste then in this lovely still almost untouched snow!

Siamese left the last post on the old thread if anyone missed it... It seems we have a few big boobed ladies on here! Yes boobs will get smaller again but some people claim to have permanently bigger (or smaller) boobs than before. Me I'm not sure, about the same I think. Shape not too bad which I'm glad as you hear some horror stories about boobs hanging down at knee level because of breastfeeding etc. I was actually seriously considering being "too posh to push" (ie elective CS) and bottle feeding, just because I was so scared of my body changing. Somehow along the way I realised I was being ridiculous. Sorry I digress.

Rindercella - glad to have you back, hope you feel better.

Arcadie · 02/12/2009 20:26

On the books front:

I've only ever seriously read G1na F0rd. I know she comes in for some stick but she has been my saving grace when it came to teaching my 2 to sleep. I think if she phrased her routines as "If you stick to these basic principles of Eat, Activity ( for a very short time when newborn), Sleep (for a good 2 hours when little) then your day will look something like this:" rather than 8:15. Brush hair, eat toast. 8:45 darken room, swaddle baby. 9am Baby MUST be sleeping by now. It was a little intimidating, but being a routine person and a teacher who likes the idea of a timetable she was right up my street. In her defence, I knew NOTHING about parenting before reading her books and both DCs have slept unfailingly for 2 hours a day minimum until now (until DS was 3 1/2) and 12 hours a night. I am a lucky woman but she helped.

MatB1 forms: I have one. MW told me to send it off. Where to????? I'm a SAHM now whcih I told her but she still said I should send it off. When I was teaching I just gave it to the Bursar. Any ideas?

Siamese Sorry you're poorly but congrats on the norkage. Lucky you!

evitas and IWCAS Any useful "anti rib pain" stretches you can recommend from yoga?

Caitni Never apologise for loving the Nappucino. They're great.

Mumbot Ideal baby present if we didn't already have one would be a) portable black out blinds (e.g. Baa Baa Blind), a Bumbo and tray and a Totseat (portable highchair). We do already have all of those so I'm going for Chocolate. And some Pregnancy Massages.

EmLouT What's a maternity nurse? (on 3rd child and clearly so much to learn emoticon)

Manda DUMBASS consultant. Complain away and get someone who listens.

Pacific and Afribaby Apologies for the obvious German. Ich mochte ein Stuck Schwartzwalderkirschtorte mit zwei Bretzen und ein Grosses Weissbier. Is that better? (Brother lived in Munchen for many many years and I still crave KaffeeundKuchen time and my hourly intake of Beer and Pretzels). Think you should have campaigned for Wunderschnitzels Anonymous as the new thread title. Maybe that's the one I'll start now that ELK has peed all over my angel.

RebeccaCad Hope you find a good Doula. I was one for my chum and she was one for me. Not sure what diff between an empathetic girl chum birthpartner ( both our DHs were present for the respective births) and a Doula is. Are they just MUCH more experienced?

smac Good name.

annamama ROFL at Spaceman comment.

Don'ttry Congratulations on the wedding. How lovely! It IS a big deal. have some non alcoholic champers on me.

Right. I'm off to watch tv and print DDs birthday party invitations. Silly child being born 2 weeks late has got a very annoying Christmassy birthday.

scooby26 · 02/12/2009 20:30

Hi all,

Marking the thread too.

I was well behaved last week too and went for my second increase in bra's. First was about 2 mths ago when I went from 32d to 34dd. Now been measured again at M & S (after little revisit of getting wrong size)and up to a 36e. Don't particularly feel much bigger but I guess thats cos in competition with the bump they aren't. I am trying to be sensible and buy more when I need them rather than manage as i don't want to get blocked ducts from tightness or guess the size and end up with them round my ankles in 5 years!! Though that said, having had one boob job already I am not in any way averse to redoing them after child rearing - they will need redone at some point anyway - won't last forever and they are 10 years old now!! Maybe in 7 years for my 40th it'll be nice to buy some new pert ones xx

Rindercella · 02/12/2009 20:53

Crikey Arcadie, did you type all those s individually?

Thanks for the well wishes ladies. Think the antibiotics are starting to work now, as although deaf I really feel brighter!

I shall spend some time catching up on all your news

Arcadie · 02/12/2009 21:12

Rinders Good to see you Chick. Where you been?! In answer to your blush Q...Nope. Cut and paste... Badly if number 27 is owt to go by.

Rindercella · 02/12/2009 21:25

Phew to that. I had visions of you carefully typing [ blush ] 30 odd times!

I have been ill and feeling miserable...will do my best to be more cheerful from now on. Thankfully DD is better, so is sleeping through again - 3am wake ups when you feel crap yourself are no fun (as I am sure you know!).

siamesecatwoman · 02/12/2009 21:46

have woken up from sick bed to check in as have finally remembered what I was going to say to Don'ttry - CONGRATULATIONS! I love weddings...

and to add myself to this list as I was too shy to before..

wwwwooooohhhhoooooo lovely new thread,

at snow angels and dogs!!!!!love it!!!

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 02/12/2009 22:05

Phew, found you!

I posted on the old thread and there has been no post on it since - I killed it and will claim its head as my trophy!! It will look very fetching over my fireplace .

ROFL at yellow snow!

Anybody wishing to see my amazing book recommendation will have to go back to old thread as I cannot be bothered am to busy and important to write it all again !

Arcadie · 02/12/2009 22:42

Pacific Thanks for book recommendation. Agree that no one baby will do it like the book says and that you won't spoil a newborn / make a rod for your own back by cuddling him or her. For me it was important to remember that I was (and still am) guiding and shaping my 2 DCs towards behaviour and patterns that worked for us as a fmaily. I was never going to "sort out" sleep training in one night, or wean, potty train, coax on or off the boob or bottle in one easy foolproff step. What I tried and am still trying to do it train my kids a little bit at a time. Point them in the direction of where I'd like them to end up ( eg Mummy gets some sleep). Sleep training took MONTHS in the RKD household. Not days or weeks. But we got there in the end.

What I find hard is when people say "Yeah we tried that for an afternoon - it didn't work so we stopped". Yeah, I tried learning to drive for an evening, I just couldn't get it so I stopped..... ?

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 02/12/2009 22:52

Thanks, siamese, for going back to find me (never leave a man woman behind!)

Arcadie, oh, I so agree with what you are saying.
I also think we tend to expect too much from our newborns/v young babies in terms of "reasonable" behaviour. What they feel is what you get, no playacting, no exaggeration, no agenda beyond comfort/warmth/food/love. The single biggest lesson I learnt was to just roll with it - and they grow up and turn into sensible human beings despite our best efforts .

I am on 2nd lot of antibiotics for my waterworks, infection is unfortunately resistant to both, gah! And the 2 ABs that would work are not allowed in pregnancy, double gah! As I am better the obstetrics registrar suggested I just repeat my sample and see whether drinking lots etc has cleared it. If yes, superduper. If no, I will need to be admitted for iv ABs, yikes! Really, really do not want to
On the upside my blood count is slightly less crap improved.

annamama · 03/12/2009 08:38

Arcadie - MatB1 form needs to be sent off if you're claiming maternity allowance, that's why I need mine. If not and you're not working you don't need to send it off anywhere I think. Maybe to Santa so he can give you some nice baby pressies...?

Scooby - I'm intrigued by your boob job Never say never I say...

Hope you get rid of that nasty infection soon Pacific. If you have the possibility I would drink an extreme amount of water and then go to the loo like every half an hour or so, to flush everything out! Always worked for me. Not too easy though if you have to be at work, but maybe you could go to the loo between every patient...

Interesting to read about your different babies, they definitely have their own little personalities, don't they...? My DD was a bit of the screamer in the beginning but I think that was partly due to BF not working well at first, so hoping for an easier experience this time! at pushing broccoli back and forth!

"Do you have no house work to do, children to mind, important careers to persue, husbands to please etc?"

Actually yes, thanks for the wake up call, goodbye!
