Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
crankytwanky · 07/12/2009 20:24

Hello all!

I've been snuffling around for a March 10 thread for ages!

I'm due on the 9th. Do I qualify?

siamesecatwoman · 07/12/2009 20:30

hello
still snotty and tired so still off work - this is the most amount of time Ive had off work ever - even when I had my wisdom teeth out. Only 21 working days to go until Maternity leave too! Im just tooooo tired to make that horrid commute - leaving at 7 am and returning 12 hours later does not a happy woman make.

I love Milly/ Amelie and Issy but I too know close friends with babies already named that, and DH for some reason doesnot like the 'y' sound in names (including mine? Im tempted to ask.) So if baby is boy we are 99% on Issaac (although will check spelling first..) and changing between Charlotte and Catherine daily. Although I might throw in a 'Lucy'

DH's step dad was given the task of registering his natuarl son's birth in the 60's. They had called him Gary, but step dad decided to change it when he got to the registery office alone and called him after himself, Roy. His wife was furious and Gary/ Roy has had two names ever since..

Have saved up for 3D scan so will be finding out the sex (Im reckoning will be easier on 3D... anyone?) before xmas.. yey!

BPM dear god your story about the outlaws is horrendous (and well written), and Im glad I have made the desicion (just plucking up the courage to tell anyone..) not to have any parents over for 2 weeks or so. I find both sets a proper chore to have round normally, and I spend alot of time on my own day to day with DH away that its going to be a massive adjustment to have a LO with me and not just cats anyway

Anyone else clumsy-er? I win awards for it normally but this week I have broken;
A sugar bowl lid (blue denby if you have one spare??)
A cats water bowl (ceramic)
Two wine glasses (not even mine)
and the head off one of the 3 wise men who are riding camels across the piano top. This will be fixed with glue before DH gets home, he'll be furious..

siamesecatwoman · 07/12/2009 20:46

hi Crankytwanky

is this your first? Have you found out the sex? Did you eat ginger biscuits to help with the sickness? You dont look 6 months, are you sure it isnt twins? And all the other useful things people say when they find out you are pg.. ;)

Im due on 11th. How are you feeling?

Arcadie · 07/12/2009 22:53

Hi CrankyTwanky furnish us with the above deatils and I'll still you on the list. Or you can copy and paste the list from above and put yourself on.

ILGB Now the intrigue starts as to what your DD is called..... Imogen? Iolanthe? Isolde? Portia? ( I love Portia) Juliet? Lady MacBeth? ( That was DH's suggestion) Desdemona? Hermia? Graham ( Another DH one ) Well that gives me something else to ponder at 3am.....

crankytwanky · 07/12/2009 22:55

Hello!

It is my 4th pregnancy. I have 2 DC. I was going to say how do you know I'm humongous lol! Coz I am!

Have you had the lurgy too, siamese? I have had a cold with knobs on for 3 weeks now. Actually, I think it's swine flu. I'm not being melodramatic! I did think it would be worse, espesh as it's supposed to affect pg women badly, but I've had a severe case of flu before, which has apparently given me an immunity.

Will your local hospital not tell you the sex of your baby?
How are you carrying? Have you done the doppler test?

siamesecatwoman · 08/12/2009 07:37

hi Cranky
Ive just got a rotten cold, I had my swine flu jab a couple of weeks ago so am fairly sure it isnt flu (and Im still eating like a horse).
Hope you get better soon, it must be hard with 2 other DC's around.

The local hospital and the private scan centre both couldnt find out the gender of my baby as the coy thing had its legs crossed on BOTH occassions. So thats why Ive saved up for a 3D scan. Im so desperate to know!

IN terms of all the old wives tales, I have craved beef and beer mostly (and food generally), Im shattered all the time, I didnt throw up once (but felt rotten till 12 weeks), Im carrying..well no idea really - as Im 6ft most people keep telling me how I dont look 6 months pg (must be those excellent stomach muscles from sitting on my arse all day)!! What is doppler test please? Chinese gender test says boy.

Looks like Im going to work then today despite my eyes streaming..
have a great day everyone else!

Shroomer · 08/12/2009 08:06

crankytwanky - hello and welcome to our world.

siamesecatwoman - I hope that your baby uncrosses it's legs a la Sharon Stone for the private scan you're having. Not knowing the sex of your baby when you want to know it must be frustrating.

I was tempted to get a 4D scan - apparatently week 27 is a good week to have it done, but I'm not bothering. Actually, I don't think I understand the difference between all of these dimensions. I thought the 4D scans introduced time as a 4th dimension. I don't know how a 3D scan might differ to the type some hospitals offer when doing the nuchal tranlucency scan. And what's a 2D scan - the print outs?! Gah. God help us when they invent 5D scans, the fifth dimension being sound, or emotion, or ...

Shroomer · 08/12/2009 08:07

Grrrr... I meant its, not it's. Pah. I really wish you could edit posts after posting them.

annamama · 08/12/2009 08:59

Siamese - that's great that you're getting a 3d scan, I can't imagine that they won't be able to get a good look in there this time! So maybe you won't have to worry your brain about Charlotte/Catherine/Lucy anymore... (I like Lucy best but they're all nice.) Re breaking stuff, can't you blame the cats?

Shroomer - it's annoying isn't it when you make spelling mistakes that you would think if someone else made it they were a bit thick, haha. Nevermind... We did a 3d/4d scan last time in week 30 I think, yes 4d is movement so we got a dvd of baby moving a little. Was quite exciting at the time but it also almost put me off as I thought the baby looked kind of scary!

Hi and welcome Cranky!

Arcadie - if I was as bored as I was a while ago I would have done a list by now with only the names who actually still post, due dates and boy/girl/surprise... But I'm actually sort of working from home now so I can't be bothered (at the moment)... If anyone else is up for it my boy/girl/surprise list should be somewhere on the old thread!

DB - I can't believe you drove all the way to Wimbledon without the keys, poor you! Has your DH got pg brain too?! Of course your birth this time will be natural and much easier! Induction seems to suck... I think it's good too that you're angry now, and then you'll hopefully put it all behind you soon! Not to scare you first timers but it seems first time is often pretty hard for various reasons. Of course there's cases where it's easy first time too, so let's hope for easy smooth wonderful births for all of us. (My first was 3 days labour, back to back, unbearable pain, screaming for epidural which I finally got, ventouse, episiotomy - but I recovered pretty quickly.)

Manda - I know what you mean about being antisocial and not feeling like having a fantastic new years eve, especially when pg... Hope it will be ok. My DH is antisocial too, hehe, so we probably won't do much.

I have to say that I don't feel too huge or too fed up yet... but I think I might soon be eating my words! When the being unable to breathe properly kicks in, oh I hate it!

Going to midwife tomorrow but won't even tell her I've been feeling a little bit faint (from low BP?), as I need my "fit to fly" letter for christmas flight to sweden! After having done a search on "low blood pressure" on mumsnet pregnancy topic I'm confident that I'm not the only one and that there's not much that can be done.

Spatone... Now I don't know if it's the placebo effect, but I think it really helps! Have been taking it for 4 days now and feel different, more energetic and not as tired. Well worth a try if you think your iron levels might be on the low side. They sell it in Boots, it's a BIG box with little sachets of natural iron rich water.

Christmas - in sweden we don't really do the orgy of drinking and eating like a lot of people do here... for us it's mainly for the kids. On christmas eve the daddy of the house (usually) says he needs to go out and buy a paper, then goes to the shed and changes into santa outfit and picks up big sack of presents, then knocks on the door... Most kids don't really believe it's santa but it's still a lot of fun! Can't wait to see DDs face, will be first time as last year we were just here and no santa came.

Pixie - I'm trying to think what goes with Matilde (nice!), sounds slightly scandinavian, will get back to you on that.

BPM - I too thought your story was well written, I could picture in my head like a horror movie!

Homebirth... sounds kinda nice especially if you don't live too far away from a hospital just in case you need some intervention. Not for me though and we live 45 mins away. I'm going in the pool at Ashford's new birth centre maaan [hippie emoticon], and doctors are just upstairs if needed... perfect.

Tell you what, when Siamese has found out the sex I'll make a new superlist!

OP posts:
SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/12/2009 09:12

if you're doing a superlist annanmama then switch me to 3rd position! DrSkid 22nd March should be before me on the 25th, it's been like that for ages but I haven't mentioned it before/corrected it myself but I know you and Arcadie like lists to be right
Don't have time to write much now as I'm off to the mw in a minute or two. Got to get Mat1B and HIP forms. Hope I can get a parking space - Christmas shoppers seem to have hit our little market town by storm and the carparks are chaos.

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 09:48

Ooooh... It would be great to have a superlist...

Welcome Cranky - good to have you with us!

Anna, sorry your first time sounds like it was a bit of a nigthmare too! - Just to reassure the first timers here, that a) not all first labours are like that (promise) - a friend of mine's first labout was only 4 hours, no pain relief and she said she'd had period pains which hurt more ...

and b) we've obviously recovered to the point of doing it all again, which tells you something about the body's ability to heal - nothing less than miraculous, really. I had quite significant damage, but still was never immobile, pain was relatively easily managed, and within a couple of weeks was negligable and I was up and around straight away...

Oooh - I like Matilde (Matlida? Mathilde?) Tilly for short... Issie and Tilly...

Might have to propose that to DH - I think he may have already vetoed it, but cant remember or imagine why...

Isabella Grace (DD1) and
Amelie Hope or Matilda Hope... hmmm...

Issie and Milly, Issie and Tilly...

Oh, I remember why I can't do Millicent! It was the name of the headmistress in St Trinians played by Alistair Sim in drag... that's why... (Have uploaded pic to my profile - or trying to... )

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 09:54

Bah... can't upload a pic...

"Is it because I is on a Mac?" [said Ali-G style]... anyway... here's a link.

Miss Millicent Fritton

Bet this doesn't work either... let's see...

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 09:55

Oh... Yay!! My first ever link!!

annamama · 08/12/2009 10:15

Smac - yes noted!

crankytwanky · 08/12/2009 10:47

Mornin'.

The doppler test is also a myth, but has had a 100% success rate in Twanky Towers!

You know when the MW listens to your baby's heart beat with an electronic doppler? Well if it sounds like galloping horses, it's a gal. If it's a whooshing like a steam train, it's a lad.

How many of you have had the SF jab?

BulletProofMum · 08/12/2009 10:56

I've had it - I'm militant in persuading others to have it too!

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 11:09

BPM:
Reporting for mine on Monday, Sir!
Having Celvapan despite the palarver involved in getting it, Sir!
All present and correct Sir!
Atten-shun!

[salutes]

annamama · 08/12/2009 11:12

Cranky - I think probably about half or maybe more on here have had it, but some (like me) feel unsure/paranoid about any possible effects on baby or not so worried about getting SF, so not having it. To be honest this debate is really boring me now, sorry no offence, please feel free to ask anything else, don't mind to repeat ANYTHING but the swine flu debate...

Ah the heartbeat old wives tale, cool that it worked for you!

DB - I can see why you don't feel right about Millicent after seeing that pic! Yes Issie & Tilly works. My ex-boss has Milly & Tilly, I could never remember who's who. Also, for some reason it seems names starting with the same letter is easy to mix up... so trying to avoid.

OP posts:
Sariska · 08/12/2009 11:18

Wow, being forced to spend a few days RLing means several hours of catch-up needed here!

Super lists: if anyone is doing one, my due date has moved to 7th March. Not much in the scheme of things but in the interests of accuracy and all that..... (And so no-one is surprised when I start stressing about induction slightly sooner than would otherwise be the case.)

Someone (Shroomer? ILGB? - Sorry, shocking memory and only one tab open) was talking about feeling large. Well, I don't particularly but a supermarket cashier asked me yesterday if the baby was due before Christmas. I said, no, and she asked if it was twins. Grrrr.

Names: is anyone who knows the sex nonetheless coming up with a name for the other sex just in case the "diagnosis" was wrong? We're trying to but it seems that we've used up the only boy's name we can agree on. I think Arlo is my favourite but it's a bit too similar to DS' name (also 4 letters with 2 vowels) and doesn't have the Arabic/English crossover that I wittered on about in an earlier post. We also quite like Solomon but I'm not totally convinced. Hmmm, am really hoping baby is a girl otherwise I think he will be nameless for some time!

I like lots of the girls' names people have mentioned - particularly Dora and Amelie. And, in my view, there's nothing wrong with naming your child after your favourite film. (Although maybe I have to say that as I am planning to give my dd the same name as a character from one of my favourite books.)

Interesting to read other people's take on visitors after childbirth. My view last time (and, again, for this time) is that I don't mind short "drop ins" during the first two weeks as long as they don't coincide with the earliest days when milk is coming in, BFing is hopefully being established and hormones are all over the place but I don't want anyone staying until after then and I don't want to pay social calls. I am a little concerned about the last bit as we now live very close to PIL and they much prefer us to visit them rather than the other way round. This normally suits me just fine but will not do so in the days / early weeks after childbirth. Oh, and sort of on a related subject, we've been invited to a wedding when baby will be around 4 weeks old. We managed one when ds was 8 weeks old but it was a daytime Church wedding, which meant we could head home after the meal part of the reception by 9.30ish. This one is an evening wedding and won't really get going until 7ish. It's DH's cousin and there is strong pressure to go but knowing how I felt (and how intensively and frequently ds was feeding) at 4 weeks' post-partum last time, I'm really not sure I'll be up to it. Plus, it's a Muslim wedding and the need to adhere to the sensibilities of some of the more traditional attendees will probably mean me BFing in the car (it's driveable so we won't be staying over). And then there's the whole "what to wear" dilemma. My normal post-baby BFing dress won't work (knee-length) and salwar kameez isn't that easy to BF in even if I could fit into one of mine. (MIL suggested getting one made specially but when would I get measured for it? Shape and girth changes daily at that time IIRC.) Anyway, no answers to this other than "wait and see", I know!

Sorry for not commenting on many of the most recent posts but there were so many I was overwhelmed. Excuses, excuses....

annamama · 08/12/2009 11:32

Sariska - your changed due date noted! Let your DH go on his own to that wedding! Sounds like far too much trouble with such a small baby, bfing in car and everything. I would refuse to go... I think a lot of people don't know anything about how big/small a pg woman is supposed to look, including that supermarket cashier! You should make a complaint, maybe you'll get some free vouchers or something.

I have identified about 28 people who have not posted since september or earlier. (Hmm yes I guess I wasn't as busy as I thought today...) Any lurkers still around, please come forward, otherwise you'll be off the forthcoming superlist!

Just booked appointment for leg wax, DH told me to ask if they have lawnmower available. Bloody cheek!

OP posts:
Caitni · 08/12/2009 11:50

Loving all the names talk!

Pixie I love Matilde (and prefer Matilde to Tilly, but Tilly is a nice NN). I know a Swedish woman called Matilde and it's such a great name for both a child and an adult.

Sariska I really like Arlo (have no idea what it means/where it's from but like the sound a lot) but I think Solomon is just gorgeous and would work for the Christian/Muslim crossover wouldn't it?

For all the fellow lovers of the film Amelie, I think it's a lovely name and absolutely nothing wrong with naming a child for a favourite film/book character/whatever (as long as your favourite film isn't like, Alien or whateva ). It's supposed to be popular but I've yet to meet an Amelie (but then, I really don't know that many small children in this country yet ).

I really like Millicent and I think always think of Millicent Fawcett who's pretty cool.

Sorry to hear some are feeling massive and are tired of being pregnant. I'm still feeling fine - sleeping well, definitely slower but not breathless, and enjoying baby's movements. I'm 28 weeks today, and am starting to feel more on the count-down to the big day [excited]

Cranky hello and welcome . I also had the SF jab - if you have a look at the old March thread you'll see the debate we had amongst ourselves about it.

So I'm off to my nappuccino this afternoon and am still comedy excited about it (how sad that reusuable nappies have me so thrilled )

designerbaby · 08/12/2009 12:02

Millicent Fawcett WAS pretty cool - I agree - but it seems I spent more time watching St. Trinians movies than learning about the pioneers of womens' rights...

For that I am deeply ashamed, and sadly though I like the name it will always conjure up an image of a man in drag...

Hello, remember me?

I've been tied to a chair getting uni work finished, have a hand-in a stacks of work tomorrow, so was having a few days of panic as I sorted everything out and ran around like a mad woman finding booked I'd put in a 'safe place' then forgotten about!

I have been lurking though, in quick blasts here and there. So I'm still up to date on all the biz. TLC waves to everyone

Just popping in with a quick questions for all the old hands at this pregnancy thing.... what is the craic with having nosebleeds during pregnancy?

I have had two nosebleeds during the night in the past week. Woken up to find a trail of blood all down my cheek and a pool of blood on my pillow! Is this normal?

Once I get my work handed in tomorrow I will be more on form again and making better conversation. Have a everyone.
