So sorry rainbow, how awful for you, especially after seeing heartbeat, it must have been a shock for you x

Cathn, I'm starting to turn the corner now, although still feeling tired and sick in the evenings. Although, last night I had enough energy to wash my hair, dry it and straighten it!! Also, been able to stay up until 10pm some nights. I'm 13 + 2

x

Jaysfourth · 23/02/2010 13:26

Rainbow, i am so sorry to hear your news, to have seen the heartbeat and to have been so happy about it, it must be a really tugh time for you, sending you some virtual hugs and support. Take good care of yourself.

MammyG, how are you? i think it is the funeral today (or about this time?) my thoughts are with you. The links i saw were good, and i hope you have managed to explain it to your DC. It is hard to know what to say, when my grandad died, i was conscious not to say he died because he was poorly, old, or in his sleep. Someone once said kids relate these things to themselves of those around them and then they become scared of going to sleep, being ill etc, but am sure you knew that already. My eldest was 3 half when my grandad died and i told her that he had gone to heaven and that he was sitting keeping warm in by the Mr Sun, and he counted the stars at night. Its strange but i think they take it better than we do sometimes.
Its good news about your SIL, you can moan together about the joys of pregnacy!

Hi to everyone else, glad scans are going ok, for those that have had them. Who else is due a scan on or around the 12 March? it seems like AGES to go!

xx

coppertop · 23/02/2010 13:49

I'm so sorry, Rainbowdays. xxx

I'm still feeling exhausted. It feels as though all my energy has been drained away. I'm not even 10wks yet though so it's still early days compared to most people on this thread.

Jaysfourth - My scan's a few days after yours. The MW said it should be at 11wks but I'll actually be almost 13wks by then.

Jaysfourth · 23/02/2010 16:55

Coppertop, i (think) i am 10 weeks this Friday. By estimation i will be 12 weeks on 12 March (day of my scan) i feel like i am lagging behind everyone also!
I bet i am the last one standing, all my others have been 1-3 weeks overdue!

I hit exhaustion about 3-4 in the afternoon (dont get me wrong i am knackered the whole rest of the day this is just its peak!) i tend to stick the tele on and snooze...when poss....for an hour or so, i get really irritable if my phone rings or the doorbell goes - like it did today!

Anyone else not really got an appetite but find themselves picking at bits? I really want to eat healthily but cant face it at all....my poor baby will look like, crackers and cheese, biscuits and cereal! Not too much sickness now, just seem to have sporadic waves of nausea... Jeans too tight, thick waist ( not that it was small to begin with) and sore nipples, boobs ok, just the nipples, which are not helping themselves by being (almost) permanently erect!!

MudandRoses · 23/02/2010 17:09

Hi everyone
jaysfourth i'm not due my scan til March 6, I know what you mean, time is going so slowly. And I can't get the completely irrational thought out of my head that I might be imagining the whole thing. I just want some proof...I feel more hesitant about telling people i'm p/g than I did 4 weeks ago!

Has anyone got a bump yet? I don't but I've completely lost my waist - i'm straight up and down now, it's weird. I've had to start using those elastic waistband expanders - they, and the belly band I bought, are proving useful. But I do feel like Im tempting fate a bit, buying stuff this early. Is anyone else showing yet?

Oh - and re appetite...I have discovered Meridian natural smooth peanut butter - it's the one you get in health food places, in a big white tub...it has no salt or sugar but it tastes aMAzing. It's getting me through the evening munchies...dipping carrots into it...so good.

LadyRabbit · 23/02/2010 17:28

Hi All. So sorry to hear about your Dad, MammyG. I cannot begin to imagine how you must be feeling right now. Hope you are doing ok, and you are managing to look after yourself and bump.

You too rainbowdays. Felt very glum when I saw your post, just hope you are ok and getting love and support around you.

All ok here, I think - fingers crossed - the nausea is starting to wane. But the tiredness is still extreme. Had the day off today and had great plans for housework, errands etc., but have just slept most of the day and feel I could go back to bed at any moment. I've just decided to give in to my body and do what it asks of me. I'm definitely not showing yet (only 10 wks), but clothes feel a little tighter round my middle. I don't know if it's baby or because I've been so knackered and pukey I'm barely exercising when normally I run a few miles a day. I think it might be baby because my arse - normally the first place to expand - is not straining out of my jeans or anything.

Got a scan a week today, then the nuchal a week later on March 9th. Getting a bit nervous because although I saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks I'm all too aware anything can happen. Good luck everyone having scans around now; hope everyone is managing to keep well and hopefully we'll be over the hump and into second trimester land soon... purleaase!!

LB1981 · 23/02/2010 19:09

Hi everyone,

It is lovely to hear I am not the first to cast off my wardrobe.. No more skinny jeans jeans or tight tops - not sure if it is baby or air, either way it is not a good look.

After reading this post on and off for the last couple of weeks I thought I too should 'fess up and add myself to the Sept 2010 list. So good to hear others are slamming on the weight I have been busted by my eagle eye students (...3 weeks ago...) but luckily my colleagues are less observant/ polite.

This is my first time around the pregnancy block so I am full of reserve (and chocolate) and waiting with anticipation for my scan on Monday. Very excited/relieved to hear that their are others in the same somewhat tiring and nausea-inducing boat.

Fingers crossed and best of luck for all your scans.

MudandRoses · 23/02/2010 19:56

Welcome LB1981

I haven't put on loads of weight (i swear i've been eating less than before!) but have just bulked up round the waist. Like you say, tho, it could just be wid! I've had a LOT of that. Why?? Anyone know??

Jaysfourth · 23/02/2010 20:36

not good with links so i copied and pasted this ;

Wind in early pregnancy..

This is because the doses of progesterone that your body produces early in pregnancy can contribute to digestive problems (CKS 2006). Progesterone relaxes the smooth muscle tissue throughout your body, including your gastrointestinal tract. This relaxation slows your digestive processes, which can cause more wind, bloating, and uncomfortable sensations in your stomach, especially after a big meal.

i too have been trumping every step of the way !!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

MammyG · 23/02/2010 21:12

Hi all
Welcome LB1981
Jaysfourth - funeral was actually last thurs and another family funeral on saturday! Cant believe he is dead a week already - mad time warp thing going on. Im shattered but have taken the week off work as had doctor appointment on tue and thurs.

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind wishes. x

So finally some good news. Saw my little 10 week old bean today - and its thriving heartbeat! Turned out consultant was relieved too because when he did the scan at 6 weeks he couldnt see anything in the sac but thought he would wait and see! Anyway there it was happy out today and me bawling like a loon on the bed! Dont have to see doctor again for another 10 weeks - hopefully wont be as long as these past weeks. Dont know when to start telling people - just bursting to let it out now!

Constantly knackered - mind you I havent slept properly since 2006 so nothing new there! Feel like a new woman if I even get 5 hours straight! (the kind of things you never tell women before they have babies of the human race would just stop!)

Also seem totally allergic to anything good for me! Ate proper food for lunch and dinner and threw both up. Ate crisps, crackers and chips and no problems whatsoever!! Going to be hard to have healthy pregnancy with that going on!
Also treated myself to 2 pairs of maternity jeans to celebrate. Still in my own ones but muffin topping a bit now so not long left in them I think. My last pregnancy I need maternity pants at 13weeks. But I have lost a lot of weight since then so shape etc this time round is new to me.

mellymooks · 23/02/2010 21:33

Hello everyone,

Sorry to hear your sad news MammyG.
Rainbowdays I'm sorry for your loss, there are no words.

I am 11 weeks now and starting to feel marginally better, have a very definite bump though and am getting nervous that it's twins as I seem so big already and I keep dreaming that it's twins! I still don't have a scan date though and starting to worry they've forgotten about me! Seeing the midwife on Thurs so gonna moan if I've not had letter by then.

I have eaten so much crap in the last few weeks, lots of pizza, chips & beans chocolate steamed puddings!!! have discovered that my body REALLY doesn't like eggs right now! But my biggest addiction is Cheese, I cannot get enough of it

Jaysfourth · 23/02/2010 22:03

sorry MammyG forgive me....I am pregnant you know

OhFuck · 24/02/2010 07:58

Morning all.

I'm still feeling nauseous but the rotten cold I've had since the weekend has distracted me from it. I've been at the fluorescent green snot stage for 3 days now and still no sign of it shifting. So tired and fed up, and DP's patience has just about run out - I'm coming in from work, putting DS to bed if I'm home in time, and then lying on the sofa for an hour before going to bed. In between times I am making a mess and doing no housework and I think he's really fed up

I'm going to try and haul my backside into gear soon and take DS out for the morning so at least DP gets a break. I just want to hibernate until September

Sorry for moaning.

My thoughts are with you rainbowdays, I was very sorry to hear your sad news x

bananastew · 24/02/2010 08:51

MammyG Thats fantastic news. The pregnancy hormones are raging & your post had me crying!

Rainbowdays so sorry. I hope you're ok.

What a day I had yesterday! A little warning to any of you who have been told you have a retroverted uterus. It can lead to urine retention! I was in absolute agony give me labour any day. I just couldn't wee at all! I ended up in a&e with a catheter in! They couldn't decide whether I should be seen by urology or obstetrics. They made the wrong decision & the stupid urology Dr just took the catheter out & sent me home. no tests or anything! Because a perfectly healthy 29 year old just goes into retention for no reason! They were useless. I kept asking for something to eat or drink. I didn't want much, just a biscuit. I kept explaining that I was 13 weeks pregnant & hadn't had anything to eat or drink for 5 hours & I was feeling ill! Nothing!

Anyway I came home & googled my symptoms & it would appear that if you have a retroverted uterus this can happen around 11-15 weeks & only resolves when the uterus grows big enough and tilts back the right way! Things still aren't right so I'm going to ring the MW. Hopefully I'll get a bit more joy from her!

Swordfishtrombones · 24/02/2010 10:25

Great news MammyG - I'm so pleased for you.

OhFuck - hope you feel better soon. I've not got a cold but since getting pregnant I have had such a blocked nose. Is that normal do you think? I am producing loads of snot (sorry if tmi!) but really don't think I have a cold. It wouldn't surprise me if it was yet another crap symptom of early pregnancy! Are there any GOOD symptoms?

Bananastew - you poor thing! That sound awful! Google always comes to the rescue eh? That must be so uncomfortable for you. I hope there are ways round it - different positions or stretches maybe could help a little.

Welcome LB1981 - when are you due? You need to add yourself to the latest list (just cut and paste and add yourself in). Is it your first?

CathN · 24/02/2010 11:53

Swordfishtrombones - yes, I heard that stuffy noses can be a symptom of pregnancy (I have this symptom too). Like farting (which I'm also doing a lot!), apparently it's to do with the hormones making muscles relax. In the nose, I think this makes the nasal passages thinner (somehow) and so you get more stuffed up. It's amazing how much pregnancy affects your entire body isn't it??

Bananastew - that sounds awful - I hope things start to improve for you soon.

Monstermuncher · 24/02/2010 14:03

CathN · 24/02/2010 14:11

Congratulations Monstermuncher

I have a (probably totally naive) question about bras (especially for those who've done this before).

Mine is now really too small for me () but I'm not sure what's the best thing to do cos from what I hear, my boobs will be even bigger still come September. Should I buy a new bra which fits me now (perhaps with a little bit of room to grow)? Or wait until they reach their 'final' size? (if so - when is that usually?) When you're pregnant do you just end up buying new bras at different stages of your pregnancy as your boobs grow? Or is there such a thing as a bra which can expand/be expanded as you grow?

Sorry if I am being totally dim about this - it's all very new to me!

Any suggestions?

bellabelly · 24/02/2010 15:15

Buy one that fits you now and be prepared to buy one or two more along the way! You can't possibly wait until September, you'll be sooo uncomfortable in a badly fitting bra .

bellabelly · 24/02/2010 15:16

These bra extenders are quite handy for giving you a bit more room across the back.

bellabelly · 24/02/2010 15:17

Very cheap on ebay

BooStar · 24/02/2010 17:01

Hello everyone,

Just want to say maximum respect to all of you ladies who already have children and are coping with pregnancy nausea/tiredness!! I looked after my sister's 3 kids last week so that she could have a few days away with her partner. After 2 days I was exhausted beyond belief!! I had to go to bed straight after the kids at 7.00, slept through til morning & still woke up tired. I can't believe some of you do that day in day out! As I say maximum respect...

Although one good thing came out of it - my youngest niece is 14 months and has 4 small meals a day, I ended up eating a little something with her and it really helped with the nausea. I'd been eating little and often before but sort of waiting til i felt hungry/sick before snacking whereas eating on a regular basis before i got to that stage staved off the nausea almost completely for the whole day...

Anyone else broken out out in painful, ugly spots?? This pregnancy lark is not quite the romantic affair they make out in the movies!!
Right now I feel a sicky, spotty, bloated, haggard blob!!
When are we supposed to glow?

MummyFifi · 24/02/2010 17:51

Hi and Congrats! I am due 27th September 2010 and am soo excited! This will be my first and DH and I could not be happier! xx
