Hi all
Welcome Mummyfifi
Fab news cakeandfinewine - well done you!
jaysfourth - so sorry if my post seemed curt - really didnt mean to. You are so good to even ask and think of it! Plus over here these things are done very quickly. Sorry again!

Have endoscopy tomorrow to see if we can figure out what is going on with stomach. Agony today. Ferocious pain everytime I eat. So would do with some collective good will round 1pm tomorrow! Really need to get an answer to this or could pose major problems in pregnancy. Wish me luck.

MudandRoses · 24/02/2010 21:08

Good luck mammyG - do hope they find out what's wrong and what to do about it...can really empathise on the painful stomach, tho the Omeprazole is helping me (altho it might also be causing kidney damage - there's blood in my urine apparently and I have a horrible UTI!! )

well done cakeandfinewine, and welcome also mummyfifi. Happy for both of you! I really can't wait for my scan now. never known time to go so slowly! i'm not working, so when i'm not looking after DS (4), i basically snack, fart, and go on MN...wish I had the distraction of a job, tho i know the tiredness would kill me. Not that parenting isn't a job, but you know what i mean. one that involves adult interraction!

MummyFifi · 24/02/2010 22:36

Thanks for the welcome ladies! MudandRoses I have two jobs, I am so envious of you! I feel like I could sleep 18 hours a day at the moment and work is the last thing I want to do! Although I know what you mean about waiting for the scan, it feels like it's never going to come around! MammyG thank you for your kind words and very good luck tomorrow, I hope all goes well for you!

I just wondered if anybody has any advice for me regarding spots, I have been very lucky with my symptoms (no morning sickness etc) but I have broken out in the most horrific spots (think teenage acne!) and although I won't use any products/medications to get rid of them is there anything I might be eating or could be doing to make them better/worse? If anybody has any ideas/natural remedies I am willing to try anything!

JodeyLea · 25/02/2010 07:34

I have my first MW appointment today and scan on monday when I'll be 11 weeks. I too feel like I'm way behind everyone else, lol. Just trying to find the energy to get ready for work. Got to leave in half hour and still sitting in my pj's!!!!
Still feeling nervous for the scan, particularly because I'm not feeling half as sick as I was! Still lacking in appetite and feeling a little tired but apart from that I feel fine!!! Didn't think I would say this but I so want the nausea to come back strong just to ease my mind that all is well!!!!
Fingers crossed! Hope you all have a good day x

JodeyLea · 25/02/2010 07:37

Oh and my best friend who is due in July has just had her 20 week scan. It looks so detailed. She found out she's having a girl so we are so thrilled. She said she wasn't going to find out the sex but then decided last minute that she coudn't wait! Has anyone found out the sex with previous pregnancies?

can i join you please?!! Due the 25th Sept with my 3rd - i must be mad!!!!!! hope everyone is doing well xx

bananastew · 25/02/2010 12:28

I borrowed my friends doppler & found a little heart beat last night & this morning! Makes the bladder problems bearable!

JodeyLea We found out last time but didn't tell anyone! It was our little secret. Very funny the number of people absolutely convinced I was having a girl & us knowing that it was a boy. We will find out again but don't think people will believe us if we try to keep it a secret this time!

MammyG good luck. Hope you get on ok today.

Welcome to anyone new

CathN · 25/02/2010 12:56

Bellababy - thanks for your reply - it seems like I'm just going to have to go bra shopping more than once then! (I'm not a fan)

inzidoodle - yes, my problem is cupsize too - guess it was just wishful thinking that I could get a bra that would last all pregnancy!

MammyG - best of luck - I guess you won't read this until afterwards but hope it all goes well.

I had blood tests at hospital today which was relatively painless and straightforward. I have my nuchal scan next Friday and the MW said the results of the blood tests should be available then so they should be able to give me the combined risk factor for downs syndrome straight away.

We've decided that we'd like to know the combined risk factor (just so we're prepared if it is high), but won't have any further tests (e.g. amniocentisis) if it is high cos they come with a risk (and wouldn't change anything anyway!) and we're definitely going ahead with this PG no matter what the result is anyway!

What have other people decided to do about tests?

patito · 25/02/2010 13:25

Hi

Can I add myself to list? Been looking for this thread, don´t know why haven´t found it till now.

DD sept 4th with 2nd pregnancy. Ds1 is 23mths old. Haven´t had any scans yet, due next week.

Swordfishtrombones · 25/02/2010 14:12

What a lot to catch up on!

Fingers crossed for you MammyG - keep us posted.

Welcome MummyFifi, Sunface and Patito. I've put an updated list below so please make sure I've got I've got the right details!

CathN - I decided to have the combined test but had I been high risk I think I would have refused any further more invasive tests. Luckily I got my low risk letter at the beginning of the week so I'm feeling really happy about it.

Jodeylea - I decided not to find out the sex with DD1 and DD2. I really liked that it could be one thing that DH could announce to me and that he found out first. Sounds daft, but everything else had been my experience rather than his, so it felt right. This time though he is quite keen to find out but I'm still not sure. If it's been a secret for 20 weeks then surely I can manage another 20 without knowing. It's just such a beautiful surprise I'd hate to miss it!

jeez, not sure i can keep up with everyones news at this rate!

MammyG You werent being curt, i was just (trying) to be funny, its fine really
Hope today has gone ok, and you get some kind of result that you can start to deal with. Let us know

Welcome to one and all, seems like even though you are 'new' to the thread, everyone is due before me...AND i have been late with all mine...i said it before and i will say it again, bet i am the last (wo)man standing, maybe we should take bets between me and Inzidoodle!

My scan isnt for another two weeks, i will have the NT scan as par for the course, as for anything else, will take it as it comes...i am 38 now, and have had the NT scan with all three previous babies. Go with the flow, thats me!

Bananastew, nice one re the doppler, i have never used one and never really felt the urge so to speak, but this first few weeks really are dragging, i might need to invest in one

right off to get some dinner, laters x

bellabelly · 25/02/2010 20:28

Evening all. I have been a tired weepy mess all day! Well, not quite all day but feels like it... I'd forgotten how pregnancy hormones make any sad news story just unbearable and there've been a few today. Am a ridiculous weeping mess. Have just cracked open a non-alcoholic beer to cheer myself up!
MammyG, any news? Hope it went ok.

comixminx · 26/02/2010 08:00

Hi all,

We've made it public now, after the scan and the low-risk letter which arrived earlier this week, yay! Lots of gratifying excitement and also-gratifying surprise - as a 39 year old having a first baby I rather liked surprising people who'd known me for years.

My friend has offered to do me a baby shower! I thought they were mostly American - anyone else had one before?

StrictlyKatty · 26/02/2010 08:55

Hey, how soon did everyone get their scan letter? I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and haven't had one. I had blood tests at 8 weeks and have the midwife coming for booking in on Monday.

It's all new to me here as DS was born in Germany!

Jaysfourth · 26/02/2010 09:12

Morning all yawn just dropped of the kids at nursery/preschool, i am child free could do with going back to bed...in fact i might do in a bit!!

Strictly, from what i am gathering from this thread, everyones scan letters have come at different times. I should imagine you will have one before you are 12 weeks. If you havent heard by Monday get your MW to call the hospital and chase it? I was booked in and bloods taken at about 6 weeks, got my scan date a week later but its not till i am 12 weeks (to the day) that i go for it, HTH

Comixminx its great telling people and giving them that surprise. I love seeing peoples reactions! I had a 'baby shower' for Dc1, a friend did it for me too. TBH it was just a gathering of my friends and family, with tea and loads of cake! Some people bought small gifts and cards, some didn't. I really wasn't expecting any, and felt a bit embarrassed at first but, like another friend said, she wasn't going to be around after the birth and wanted to give me a gift in person. A baby shower can be anything from a small gathering to a massive 'party' i think its a lovely thought from your friend, go with the flow

have a good day, anyone got scans today?

Snoopydance · 26/02/2010 10:03

Hello all looks like I'm slightly tardy to the party, am i too late to join the list?

DD Sept 12 with 2nd baby. DS is 33 months, as yet no scans but eagerly awaiting first one next week...

OhFuck · 26/02/2010 10:05

Morning all.

We had some sad news yesterday - SIL, who didn't think she was able to have children but was amazed to find out she was due at the same time as me, is probably miscarrying. I feel so sad for her, and if things progress normally for us our little one will be due at the same time as she was expecting hers ... I feel like just by living our lives we'll be hurting her.

Still riddled with this horrible bug and so tired, not happy all round

bellabelly · 26/02/2010 12:06

OhFuck, really sorry to hear that. Here's hoping that things are ok and it's not a mc.
StrictlyKatty, the midwife at my booking-in arranged the scan so you'll probably get a scan date through after you've seen your mw. I only received my letter this morning, even though the mw booked it in last Tuesday. And my letter has also given me date for the 20 week scan.

bananastew · 26/02/2010 13:19

Jaysfourth A friend lent me hers otherwise I wouldn't have thought to. I'm addicted now! listen to it 1st thing and last!

OhFuck Thats awful news. My cousin lost her baby when we were pregnant together. It was horrible & like you I felt guilty every step of the way. At least she was able to get pregnant so you never know she may be pregnant again before your baby is born.

Love2Dance · 26/02/2010 13:24

Hello Ladies!

Welcome MummyFifi, Sunface and Patito.

So much to catch up on! I have been working like a cart horse this week away from home. DH and DS coming this afternoon...can't wait. . Good news is, for various reasons, my work here in Norwich has been cut short so I will be able to go home with them Sunday.

So good to hear all the scan news.

Comixminx, my mates offered a baby shower first time round but it never materialised. I think showers were American but we seem to have adopted the idea. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about baby showers. Some feel very strongly it is greedy & consumerist but isn't it a nice idea to get together with all your girlfriends to celebrate?

I've been to a couple and if it's your mate, you want to bring a gift, not that one was expected. You can even have one outdoors if the weather is nice. I would go for it.

susiey · 26/02/2010 14:14

can i join in?

I'm due september 12th but after a miscarriage in June was feeling a bit apprehensive but at a midwife appointment next week I heard the heartbeat of my baby so excited. We also have our 12 week scan next thursday so will definitley feel better then

I have 2 other children a dd (4) and a ds (2)

foxyjbro99 · 26/02/2010 14:27

Hi,
I had baby showers with both of mine! I was very embarrassed about all the fuss and loads of people turned up, including all of my friends moms, which was really lovely.
Once I got into the swing of thing I really had a good night though. I had mine at about 36-38 weeks, so it was my last night out with all my friends for a while. We all had a lovely meal at a restaurant, played a couple of games and then everyone gave me a gift!! It was really nice getting home and showing dh all my lovely things, and the baby's wardrobe was filled with lovely clothes that evening!!
x
PS hope they organise one this time too, although noone seems as bothered about number 3
