I'm sorry to hear about your loss Popsy1 - fingers crossed that this one will all go swimmingly for you.

I think that experiences such as yours are what puts me off the tests in the first place. I really don't think I want any invasive tests such as an amnio, so I'd probably refuse if the results came back as high risk. But then I'd spend the whole time worrying and not enjoy a single minute of the pregnancy. If there weren't tests in the first place then the worry would just be the usual ones you have during pregnancy. Thank you for sharing your experience, and no need to apologise about nerves. This is at least one place we can all be as nervous, daft and as grumpy as we want .

Right, DD2 came down with the dreaded chicken pox yesterday so whilst she is lying on the sofa and wanting my company I'm going to tackle my HUGE pile of filing that I haven't done for months. I have a concertina file for all bills, statements, papers and Things I Need to Keep. Wish me luck. Gulp.

comixminx · 12/02/2010 11:26

We have the NT scan offered as standard here now, for the past year or two, and I'm doing it next Tuesday (I'm 39). Of course I'm very much hoping for a good result, but if it seems worth doing an amnio I will certainly consider it - despite the risks. I'm surprised they downplayed it so much for you, popsy1 - I mean I guess it may be more routine nowadays than it used to be, but it was always something you knew about as an at least slightly risky procedure. But how horrid, to go through it and lose a baby that way.

foxyjbro99 · 12/02/2010 11:49

So sorry popsy1, I've just booked my nuchal after reading your sad story - not standard here.
Got my dating scan on Tues.
Sickness & tiredness still definately here, although there are moments when it seems to be easing off.
Has anyone heard about this £190 health in pregnancy grant which is given to all mom to bes and it's not income tested???
Just had a leaflet about it, mine will be paying for nuchal scan
PS told my dad last night that i was pg, all he could say is "good luck" then followed up to my nan with " it's very worrying to bring a child into the world in this day and age" AIBU or is he a t**t?

upsoearly · 12/02/2010 13:32

Hi all. I'm 9 weeks 5 days and all my symptoms (nausea and exhaustion) seem to have disappeared. Am panicking a bit as I had a miscarriage in November, though a bit earlier on (7.5 weeks). Has anyone else had a sudden loss of symptoms?

Can't decide if I'm just being neurotic or whether I should try for another early scan...

Gi1da · 12/02/2010 13:34

NUANBU! That's downright stupid! What are you supposed to say, oh I'd never thought of that maybe we'll just have a kitten instead? [roll eyes]

Popsy1 so sorry, fingers crossed for you that all goes smoothly this time around. Thanks for the warning though, its useful to know that 'routine' procedures do carry risks.

I'm 38 and this is my first, I don't have a clue what to expect or what I should do regarding tests, etc - am with Swordfishtrombones in wondering what help the information really is, and whether I would act on a 'bad' result anyway.

Have booking in on Sunday so will find out what the next steps are in my area. All I really desperately want is a scan so that I can see I'm really pregnant. I'm one of those who have minimal symptoms - that may sound lovely to those of you feeling awful - but its scaring the life out of me that maybe its all in my imagination and the missed period is early menopause.

I'm comfort eating cheese thins out of anxiety not MS!

Foxyjbro99 - no I hadn't heard of the payment - where do you find out more?

Gi1da · 12/02/2010 13:39

Oops sorry upsoearly my NUANBU was at Foxybro99!

I can completely sypmathise with you on the lack of symptoms though - I did a search here for 'pregnancy no symptoms' and there are quite a few threads that are very reassuring - don't worry!

Gi1da · 12/02/2010 13:44

Upsoearly - have a read of these - you will feel much better, but I know its still nervewracking...

have a look here

Upsoearly - I have had same thing (sickness from about 6-9 weeks then suddenly stopped) and it is a bit worrying but after my extensive Mumsnet research and general googling it seems this is quite common. Who'd have thought I'd be wishing to feel sick?

Foxy - maybe it was just Dad-awkwardness at not knowing what to say? Or am I being too charitable?

Love2Dance · 12/02/2010 21:18

Hi Gals,

Popsy1 I was very sorry to read about you loss. Makes it difficult to decide I'm sure.

I had the combined test last time round (with first baby at age 38) and will have it again, but no so sure about amnio. Before being preganant for the first time had always thought I would terminate if Downs, but being pregnant and having a child changes your perspective...NOT judging anyone who would terminate though.

Upsoearly what a relief to see someone else is the same as me! Tits not sore (never were really, more like sensitive). No sickness. Didn't get up to go for a wee last night and now I'm paranoid little bean has stopped growing. I know I need to get a grip. Just a worrier after MC in Oct.

Irritability going strong though . Or maybe that's just tiredness...

DH has very sweetly gone out for takeaway (Nando's). OOhh just noticed it's late isn't it? Only reason I'm not climbing walls with hunger is the big chocolate croissant I wolfed after work. Just surrender to the fat Love2Dance...

Anyone see "One Born Every Minute" doc about the labour ward? Feckin' Hell!!

Jaysfourth · 12/02/2010 21:24

Like some of you, my sickness has subsided, i am about 9 weeks, not really had it for the last two days...but it has been replaced by horrendous heartburn, for which i am now eating rennies by the packet!

Popsy1, that must of been awful for you and your partner to have gone through, i hope and pray all is om for you, hang in there

RE the NT scan, i have had it with all three pregnancies, the first time ( in surrey) - looking back now, i wasnt even given a choice, i was more or less told this is what would happen, i was gobsmacked when i later heard some people have to pay for it Now in Nottingham, the do it routinely ( for those that want it) and i will go ahead with it. Any further decisions i will make as and when the time is here, i try and deal with things as they present themselves or else i would be a quivering wreck!!

Good luck to those having scans coming up, for me, the 12 March feels like forever away!

off for a bath, hi to everyone else who have joined, and indeed to everyone else who have been here a while x

Jaysfourth · 12/02/2010 21:44

lovetodance, i watched that programme, call me strange but i love it, even when i am not pregnant i cant help being fascinated about labor and birth!!

have set it to record in case i should want to re watch!! sad i know

MammyG · 12/02/2010 23:11

Thanks for letting me whine!!

bananastew · 13/02/2010 09:20

Hi all! I look pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!! luckily I can't keep a secret to save my life so all my friends know. its a good job really. I'm usually a size 6-8 and this being my 2nd pregnancy I've already begun to show & it doesn't just look like wind! Dread to think what i'll be like at 9 months!!

foxyjbro99 I hate to say it but get used to the insensitive, unthoughtful comments! I can never decide if people are being mean or just not thinking! or that i'm just being hormonal and oversensitive.......Nah, that couldn't be the case! It must be them!!

popsy1 try to focus on all the stories of people who had horrendous experiences like yours then went on to have happy healthy problem free pregnancies! Try not to stress too much & remember if you ever want to vent, MN is your place!!

popsy1 · 13/02/2010 11:04

Thank you ladies for all your kind words. It was lovely of you all

Yay for half term I'm exhausted!

I went out with some friends last night and couldn't fit into my going out out jeans or trousers! Dont think its a baby bump though, more like a toast, butter and jam bump I just cant stomach salads or fruit at mo.

I have my scan on monday Very excited but nervous as well. i have a fear that theres going to be nothing there! i know it sounds very silly. Just panicking i suppose.

Hope you are all well. Hows the MS? Mine seems to come in waves.
xx

bloominnorah · 13/02/2010 12:08

Yippeeeeee! Had scan this morning and saw little bean. Told both sets of parents too and they are over the moon. Early days though, so told them not to tell everyone they know!

Monstermuncher · 13/02/2010 12:36

Yaay Bloominnorah thats great news
Popsy1 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, fingers crossed for your scan on Monday. I know what you mean about being nervous and excited, its so hard not to worry when things have gone wrong before.

I guess there will be a few of us September mums having our scans in the next couple of weeks, mine is Feb 24th and I'm counting the days. I loved One Born Every Minute - if you missed it or want a sneak preview of the next episode its all on the Channel4 website

KayloHalo · 13/02/2010 12:58

Hi - you don't know me but I wanted to let you know that CLB1 has unfortunately miscarried this week, she is being taken care of and is as well as can be expected considering what has happened.

I have updated you list for you.
Congrats to all those of you hanging on to your babies and I'm so sorry to those of you that have lost

Monstermuncher, I'm back on the 24th Feb too for my booking in appointment! When are you due - I can't find you on the list or are you waiting till after your scan?

coppertop · 13/02/2010 16:53

popsy1 · 13/02/2010 17:21

So sorry clb1. Hope you have people around you to take care of you. Look after yourself. Thinking of you
xx

Jaysfourth · 13/02/2010 19:49

clb1, sorry to hear of your sad news, we can take nothing for granted. Good luck for the future, please take care.

Love2Dance · 14/02/2010 10:58

CLB1 I'm very sorry. KayloHalo thanks for letting us know.

Agree with you Jaysfourth. Nothing is for granted. A friend and colleague of mine had a MC at 10 weeks whilst on holiday. She hadn't told anyone at work about it but me, but it taught me how these things can happen even when you think you're just about safe.

Strangely, when I had my MC in October, the stuff she had told me about what it's like helped me to deal with it.

On the good side, she got pregnant again after a few months and is now due her second baby next month. I wish for the same for all of those who have been through a MC or still birth.

CLB1 · 14/02/2010 13:36

Hay Lady's,

Thanks for all your wishes.. and thanks Kaye for letting them know.

Its a set back and it may take a while to come to terms but I definately will be getting back on the horse (so to speak,).

I hope everything goes well for you all, and I wish you all happiness

This is CLB1 signing off for now x x
