Hello all and corngratulations to newcomers. Had to go to a work related dinner last night and went ot bed at 2.00 am. Today have found it really hard to work and keep nodding off at my PC. At least I'm working at home but a bit cross as promised to do a piece of work for someone who said he'd get it to me by 1200 as he wants it back this afternoon. No sign of it and I have held off going for a nap whilst waiting. I'll give him till 3.15 pm then I have to have 40 winks.

*Comixminx" thrush is such a drag isn't it? I find once you get rid of it with Canesten or whatever, taking pro-biotics really helps. Not live yoghurt (although, applied topically, it is soothing it's not enough), but capsules you swallow that you can get in a health food shop or chemist. I always used to get thrush after anti-biotics (just had a ut infection and anti-bi's) but I take pro-biotics at the same time and have managed to avoid it.

Right, work colleague has 1 minute...(drums fingers dozily)

Gi1da · 05/02/2010 15:37

2am? You deserve a medal! I don't know if its hormones or the fact that I'm only having a cup of coffee every other day, but I can't keep my eyes open past 10.30. Had a work hen-do to go to recently, after my 5th no-fun "mocktail" I was ready to put my head on the table, but not for the same reason as my merrier colleagues!

BooStar · 05/02/2010 15:57

Hi all

Can't believe how busy this thread is - if you're away for a few days it takes an age to catch up with all the posts!

I've still be feeling really sick all day, I work from home so I've just been staying in bed and working from there but today i got up really early to go for a long walk in the Forest with the M-in-law and her walking group and I've hardly felt nauseous all day, still the odd wave where i'm reaching for the extra strong mints but not nearly as bad. Coincidence? Has anyone else found exercise helps pregnancy nausea? (refuse to call it 'morning' sickness - what a misnomer!!)

It sounds like I have very similar digestive system to you Comixminx - never had a problem until got pregnant. Seems like it's quite common though as your digestive tract slows down in order to absorb more nutrients for baby
I know it seems like old lady advice but lots of fruit & esp prunes work wonders! I haven't had a problem since I upped my intake. Always thought prunes were pretty minging but the Waitrose soft Agen dried ones are pretty good if you cut them up small on cereal. And i've also discovered that they have a significant amount of Vit C, Iron and calcium as well so all good!!

Ooooh - still can't believe it's real - have to keep pinching myself!

JodeyLea · 05/02/2010 17:20

Hello lovely ladies. It's been at least a week since I last posted as have been unbelievably busy at work. Welcome and congrats to all the newbies to the site.

Don't know how I have coped this week at work without letting it slip to everyone that I'm expecting as I too have had all day nausea! I really can't seem to shake it off. It wakes me up in the morning and stays with me all day. Driving to work is particularly uncomfortable. Anyone got any tried and tested remedies? I'm defo trying the long walk in the morning (with my dog) to see if that helps. I am eating little and often but I just can't stomach anything with a strong taste so it's lots of bread, toast and potatoes at the mo, as well as sweet things like fruit, chocolate, cake and biscuits . I'm sure this diet it no good for the digestion system either as I keep getting indegestion! Though, I've found 'New Era Tissue Salts' to be good for combatting that.

I hate moaning as it's such a wonderful thing to be pregnant but at the moment, I am struggling with this nausea!!! Going to New York in two weeks with 25 school children too and am worried that the nausea will still be happening so I need to find some fast solutions (or do I just have to accept it???).

On a brighter note, my first scan is booked for 1st March so thats very exciting.

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 17:26

Jodey I keep crackers in my drawer and eat them discretely.

Im finding 5 tiny meals a day works to keep the nausea at bay.

I did black out at work yesterday when I stood up, but just sat right down again and no one noticed!

MammyG · 05/02/2010 20:58

Hello All
Welcome to the newbies!
Just to say love this thread! Find myself dying to put kids to bed in the evening so I can check in and see how everyone is doing. Really comforting at this stage to have people to talk to when I spend all day checking myself.

Had a good day today - first day in a month where I felt like me and no real bout of nausea. Must have been the whole 6 hours sleep last night! Even met my best friend in the afternoon for a good natter and another bout of baby naming! Fun!

Comixminx - increase your fruit! and include some oranges. Forget the 5 a day - go double and fruit salads etc. Sometimes too much wholemeal or very fibrous foods can aggravate the problem. Although you can buy liquid fibre drinks. I find them too abrasive but I have a v.finicky system

Also do I just copy and paste to get on the list?

Jaysfourth · 05/02/2010 21:47

cartons of prune juice works wonders! If you cant handle it add some fruit smoothie to it...double the does

Nice to see more new people, didnt we all have fun a cpl of mths ago ;)

Nothing much to report, had bloods taken today, also sent off form for free prescriptions. Went to pick up free bounty pack but the cupboard was bare... how dare they have nothing for me!! Will have to collect another time. Then went and had a lovely massage that DH booked for me at Christmas, thought id best get it in while i can still lie face down

Does anyone watch Corrie? I was thinking tonight that Beckie will have her baby at about the same time as us.... funny that, we can follow our pregnancy at the same time as watching hers on the tele. hehehe

Off to bed now, hope everyone is ok xx

rainbowdays · 06/02/2010 06:42

Hi all,

Having nearly given up on this pregnancy with 3 scans in 2 weeks showing no growth, this baby shocked me by suddenly having a wonderful heartbeat.

I could not wait any longer and went to get the repeat scan yesterday, I was all prepared for the talk on miscarriage, but instead there was the little heartbeating..... I was amazed. It is the first time following 5 early miscarriages in the last 18 months that we have got to actually seeing a heartbeat.

I am so happy.

MammyG - for the list yes, just copy and paste and add yourself in, I did not notice you were missing! Add yourself in quick!

HellysBelles · 06/02/2010 08:25

Hi All

Wow - what a thread, nearly cried reading everyone's stories! V moving.

I'm due mid-September-ish but am considering getting a private scan as my NHS one not until mid-March and can't bear to wait that long, plus have hen-do/wedding looming at which I'd love to be able to admit my news rather than pretending to be ill/detoxing/party pooping - can anyone recommend anywhere in London?

Am living on a diet of lime-juice cordial, cheese-on-toast and ready-salted crisps, not particularly healthy but can't seem to stomach much else at the moment...

PS Love2Dance, please tell your secret of how to nap at work!

comixminx · 06/02/2010 08:29

Blimey! I second BooStar on how quickly this thread grows - one day later and quite a few posts longer! Thanks to everyone who suggested more fruit - I think of myself as eating a lot of the "five a day", including fruit and nuts in my muesli, but to be fair overall I actually eat much more in the way of salad items than fruit.

I'd reflexively say ick to prune juice but suppose I ought to be fair and give it a go before saying that cos I've never actually tried it! The constipation is a lot better at the moment though so maybe I'll just try the lots of fruit option first.

Rainbowdays - how great for you! Especially after all your worries - fantastic. I went to the midwife for my booking appt yesterday - all straightforward - and at the end I lay down and she used the stethoscope with a loudspeaker thing to play me the baby's heartbeat. It was amazing to hear it myself - sounds like you saw it rather than hearing it with your own ears but hopefully you will soon have the same.

comixminx · 06/02/2010 08:33

Oh and Love2Dance - thanks for the pro-biotics tip, will look out for those. The WF has sorted me out with a prescription for the thrush now but keeping it away is definitely what I want for the future!

Rainbowdays - Yipee - well done you!!
The next 3 weeks are going to be so long!! Although have long weekend away with DH without the boys! Cant wait! hope I will still be well enough. Bout of sickness today - yuck but great too as nice to just have pregnancy sickness instead of usual stomach complaint.

JodeyLea · 07/02/2010 10:12

Congratualtions Rainbowdays, wonderful news.

Have found that if I eat late at night, the sickness in the morning isn't as bad!!!!

Hope everyone is feeling good today x x x

bananastew · 07/02/2010 10:15

Hi all! Had promised my self I was going to wait till my scan before I even read this thread but Ds is at his Grandma & Grandpas, DH is enjoying his lie in and I couldn't sleep so got up and couldn't resist!!!

I'm due around 4th Sept. Had an early scan at the beginning of Jan cos I have polycystic ovaries and irregular periods. Was dated around 6wks 3days then. Saw a strong little heartbeat!

I've added myself to the very long list!!!

Love2Dance · 07/02/2010 11:04

Hi All,

We'll have to start a new thread this one is getting so long (maybe at 12 weeks or is that too long to wait?).

Hellysbelles no secret to napping: I can only do it when I work at home. Means I have to catch up at weekends like now. DH has taken DS aged 3 swimming and I'm rushing to finish some work off now!

I have my first hospital booking-in appointment tomorrow so am quite excited even though no scan date is in sight. Was quite pleased to get into this (London) hospital as it's out of my area and GP gave dire warnings that they might not take me. Oh! and it's not far from a huge new shopping centre so if all goes well in the months hence I might have to pop in and have a look.

Lol at appetite stories. I am rapidly piling on the pounds. All that stuff in the books about not needing to eat much more until later on just doesn't work with me. I am ravenous all the time. I'm sure little and often is the way to go. But still,
I WANT A TOASTED BACON SANDWICH NOW! Exercise is oddly, a help with the tired and sicky feeling though.

Curlylox · 07/02/2010 11:29

Please remove me from the list as I miscarried last night but wishing you all the very best.

Love2Dance · 07/02/2010 11:46

bananastew · 07/02/2010 15:31

There are some horrible sad stories around! It keeps things in perspective and teaches us to never take things for granted.

Has anyone used a fetal doppler yet?? the web sites say you can hear the heartbeat from as early as 10 weeks.

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/02/2010 16:13

I love this thread too, none of my real life friends are at this stage, its wonderful being able to compare notes with people at the same stage as me.

Sending lots of sympathy to Curlylox. Be kind to yourself.

"I'm due mid-September-ish but am considering getting a private scan as my NHS one not until mid-March and can't bear to wait that long, can anyone recommend anywhere in London? "

Yes Helly I booked an early private scan here: www.thelondonultrasoundcentre.co.uk It's £150 with a £50 deposit. I havent actually been yet but they were very helpful on the phone and they have weekend and evening appointments for a small charge so you dont have to take time off work.

Cant wait till I can start making announcements, I was round my sisters yesterday and kept declining food and wine and the smell of her (lovely) cooking made me feel sick.

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/02/2010 16:18

Oh and where are my manners?

Welcome and congratulations bananastew! Brilliant news for you too, rainbow.
