Swordfishtrombones · 02/02/2010 16:11

Thanks for the oatmeal tips everyone. We'll try that tonight. I think we may be over the worst as DD1 managed to sleep last night for the first time without waking up howling, and the spots all look less red today. Her temp has gone to normal as well so she seems to be on the mend. Now we have to wait for the scabs - yuk! (and probably for DD2 to come down with it now). My sympathies again MammyG!

Fingers crossed Rainbowdays.

Does anyone know when the free dental care kicks in? I know you send off for the NHS exemption card but I can't remember if they give it out at the 12wk appt or later.

My scan is a fortnight tomorrow - can't wait!

Love2Dance · 02/02/2010 16:46

Hi All,

Been really busy at work and no time to post. Thinking of you MammyG and Rainbowdays.

Swordfishtrombones I'm pretty sure you get free dental care immediately. Or at least I think so. I have been going to same (unfortunately) private dentist for years. Don't really want to spend loads, but last pregnancy he was so nice he gave me huge discount as he said "you'd get this free on the NHS anyway".

Btw, I have still not taken 3 yo DS to a dentist. Bad mummy.... anyone else as crap as me? I am good about teeth brushing, honest).

Off to see Avatar tomorrow for a treat.

bellabelly · 02/02/2010 16:53

Love2Dance - when i phoned up earlier to register myself with dentist, i registered the twins (2.6) as well but receptionist lady says they don't actually see them for check-ups etc until they are 3. I was thinking I'd be told off for not registering them earlier - am relieved I don't have to face getting them to sit quietly and nicely for dentist until the summer!

Monstermuncher · 02/02/2010 17:06

Free dental care and prescriptions start straight away (in Scotland but I think same in England). I filled out a form when I first went to the GP at 6 wks and got certficate thru the post a week later. No proof of pregnancy required and its valid until a year after my EDD - bargain! My DH was amazed at the "scamming opportunities" as he put it, but gawd there have to be some rewards for feeling so crappy. My 3 year old is registered at my dentist but hasn't actually been, I think that will be an ordeal for all concerned.

mellymooks · 02/02/2010 17:25

Phew feel better about not having registered my little one yet at dentist but feel bad at the fact that I too am not registered am terrified of dentists............

Swordfishtrombones · 02/02/2010 18:42

Mellymooks - my 4 and a half year old has only just been for her first appt . On the plus side it was all positive and she was well behaved and very cooperative.

If only the same could have been said for my nearly 3 year old who refused the chair, to open her mouth, to let the (extremely nice and patient) dentist anywhere near her with a mirror or light......

She didn't make a fuss. Just said 'no' and smiled nicely but firmly.

MadameG · 02/02/2010 19:47

I've just booked a dental check-up too, I haven't been for about 9 months. Been gargling with Corsodyl too which is apparently good for gingivitis.

I'm feeling very down this week. My boss is being a complete bitch and I'm waiting to hear the outcome of another job interview- I hope to god I get it because I can't take her anymore. Plus, I've got my second attempt at the dating scan tomorrow- last time nothing showed and the sonographer wasn't nice. I'm very fearful about it, to be honest- I just want them to bloody see something so I don't have to keep going back over and over. I must be bloody pregnant, I've done 10 tests!

I feel quite miserable, truth be told- everything is up in the air and worrying.

Symptoms wise- sore, sore boobs, weeing in the night, nausea, pulling mild pain in my tummy, irritability.

CakeandFineWine · 02/02/2010 21:03

Evening all just a quick checking in
Hope everyone is OK!
Rainbow hang in there I know how crap it is being told they'll rescan again next week etc!! Fingers crossed for you hun x

Well not much happening here waiting impatiently nicely for my next scan on 1st March. Midwife wrote to me today so ringing her to book in tomorrow, didn't want to do it too soon this time after my MC!! feeling more postive so far this time, someone at work asked me outright if I was pregnant today "erh no just getting fat" poor girl will apologise in a few weeks However have put on 4lb this fortnight!!!!

MadameG · 03/02/2010 12:57

Hi everyone,

Just had my dating scan this morning- I'm 6+3 and we could see a little heartbeat! Apparently thats a really good sign!!!

Bessie123 · 03/02/2010 13:59

Hello - can I join? I've been holding off a bit because this is the same day of pregnancy I had a mc a few months ago. I just wanted to get to 6 weeks without disaster. I'm 6 weeks today, due 29 September.

popsy1 · 03/02/2010 14:56

Hi can i join in. Also been holding off posting as the first anniversay of loosing my baby boy was yesterday. Was going to wait til i had my early pg scan in 10 days, but decided it would be nice to chat to ladies that know. I haven't told anyone yet. Waiting til i've had my scan as still in a bit of disbelief.

Think i'm due 26th september

xxx

Bessie123 · 03/02/2010 16:06

Popsy sorry to hear that. Hope you are feeling alright.

popsy1 · 03/02/2010 18:31

Thanks Bessie. Fingers crossed for us both this time
xx

MammyG · 03/02/2010 21:19

Hi all
Popsy & Bessie - welcome! Its a brave new world! Hope you both have a wonderful pregnancy.

Madame G - Yipee! Well done you! I went at 6 weeks and they could see the sac was the right size etc but thought it was too early for heartbeat. Am back at 10 weeks and just want it to happen now!!! Was really sick last month and just need to know my little bean is well.

So have turned into unplugged zombie mom when not at work! Tho just keeping the head above water there too. One of the kids looked at me all doe eyed in school today and asked me was I very tired? Feel a little too impatient with my two at home tho - not enjoying them as much as I should be. Although on other hand am happy to finally have pregnancy symptoms. Also there is not enough chocolate in the country at the moment!

upsoearly · 04/02/2010 12:56

Hi. I'd like to join you all too please. I'm 8 weeks 4 days but have been holding off posting here as I had a miscarriage in November and couldn't quite believe this pregnancy was going to work out.

Feeling a bit more hopeful now as I had a scan yesterday and we could see the heartbeat - so exciting!

I think my due date is 13 September, by which time my DD will be 27 months - fun times ahead!

coppertop · 04/02/2010 13:25

A big welcome to Bessie, Popsy and Upsoearly.

Great news about your scan, MadaeG.

Fingers crossed for you, Rainbowdays, that next week's scan brings you some good news.

Nothing here except lots of nausea and tiredness. I should buy shares in Jacobs' Cream Crackers, with the amount I've been getting through...

bloominnorah · 04/02/2010 16:06

Hello everyone, not posted for a while as too sick! This week has def been the worst so far. Got scan tomorrow at 10am and seriously thinking about cancelling...no way I'll be able to have a full bladder...cant keep much down especially in the morning!

Good luck with anyone else having a scan and hello to anyone else thats joined us

comixminx · 05/02/2010 08:10

Hello again from me too - off to the midwife today for my booking appointment, which is another stage on the "it all feeling realler and realler" train!

I've had few symptoms overall which is great in many ways but which feeds into any feelings one may have of "is it really happening then?" or "maybe it's stopped growing?!" but that's all paranoia really of course. Symptoms which I have been having: constipation off and on - what are others doing about that? I am never normally constipated - if anything the reverse (TMI I know). I also have an annoyingly persistent, but low-level, touch of thrush, again not usual for me. Any suggestions? Apart from getting a prescription next time I see the doc, I guess...

EmmaLM · 05/02/2010 10:15

My first baby is due on 7th September! Am desperate to tell everyone.

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 11:22

Congratulations Emma!!

I'm having no 1 too.

Have started reciving letters and calls from midwives with dates for booking in appointments and 1st scan.

These are scheduled for working hours which means I have to tell work really soon,

It wont go down well as my boss is on sceondment and I am basically deputising for him, so they wont be pleased at having to replace him AND me.

coppertop · 05/02/2010 11:28

Congratulations, Emma.

Comixminx - No idea about the thrush but the only thing that seems to help me with the constipation is eating weetabix. Hope someone else has better ideas for you.

I'm impressed with the way you're all already in the system. I phoned to make an appointment with the MW thinking I was probably leaving it a little late (think I'm about 7wks now). Turns out you don't see anyone until 10wks round here and even then they're so full up that I might have to be seen at the hospital instead.

Gi1da · 05/02/2010 11:59

Hello, can I join in too? I had been waiting as I couldn't really believe it was true. Am 38 and this will be my first, EDD 22 September.

After a very unsatisfactory first appt with my locum doctor a fortnight ago who just asked me if I had taken a test then looked up my dates on the internet and sent me home, I was starting to think I had imagined it all. Very lucky in no particularly bad symptoms, but seem to be developing great boobs for the first time in my life!

Just now received a call from the hospital asking me to go in for a first appt with the midwife next week - am lucky, got a Sunday appt so can still keep schtum it at work :-)

Oh mi god, it's actually real isn't it?

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 12:03

Congratulations upsoearly!

Re getting into the heathcare system: Ten weeks is standard where I am (London) and when I'll be booked in. My GP gave me my due date.

However I'm paying for a private scan at 8 weeks because I'm seeing my parents and my inlaws that weekend and want a scan before I tell them. Also I need to be sure of dates as my sisters wedding is a month before my EDD, dont want the two to clash.

Question! Should I confess at my NHS scan that I've already had a private scan, or will they think I'm a rich bitch? (Im not. Well, Im not rich anyway!)

Swordfishtrombones · 05/02/2010 12:30

Morning everyone, and welcome to all the new people - September is going be one helluva month!

SkaterGrrrrl - I wouldn't mention it if I were you. Not because they'll think any differently of you, but they might be nicer if they think it is your first scan! Sometimes the sonographers are less than helpful...

Added in the new names - hope I haven't missed anyone.
