Curlylox, so very sorry to hear of your news
hope you have lots of support around you at this hard time.

Thanks for the heads up popsy1, i hope its portrayed delicately for the sake of all

Welcome to everyone who have recently joined us.

Maitri · 07/02/2010 22:33

Oh Curly, I'm so sorry about your news. All the very best for this difficult time. x

MammyG · 07/02/2010 22:34

Hi all
So sorry Curlylox Take care of yourself.

Am prepping bacon sarnie at the mo - was so nauseous all day long and now am ravenous! Plus the weekend is just not long enough! think pregnant working women should be afforded an extra day to the weekend! Actually all pregant women should be!

Dont have a telly this pregnacy and it is actually a relief. I was a mess my last two pregnancies - cried at NSPCA ads so couldnt watch anything that involved children being sad let alone hurt! DH cant believe that we have gotten to week 8 and he hasnt arrived in yet any eve to find me a blubbering mess!

Just willing the weeks by - want to hear my little ones heartbeat so much. Find myself more anxious about things going wrong this time too. Presume its natural as am on pregnancy #3 just cant believe i could be so lucky a third time round?

bloominnorah · 08/02/2010 08:37

Welcome newbies and sorry to read your news Curlylox, keep your chin up.

Is anyone else sick as they get out of bed? My feet barely touch the floor before Im running to the bathroom!

I have discoverd that if I eat a plain packet of Walkers crisps after I get up ..then Im not sick for the rest of the day! Don't get me wrong, I still feel like crap but at least not sick, therefore able to have lunch and dinner etc!

Monstermuncher · 08/02/2010 09:40

Hi Bloominnorah - I'm not actually sick as soon as I get up but usually start retching straight away. I can't wait for the nausea to stop. Last week I had to be sick in a carrier bag in the street on my way to work. It's miserable and I sympathise with anyone else who is feeling grotty.

Curlylox I am so sorry to hear your news, take care.

bloominnorah · 08/02/2010 10:02

Yeah it's not fun Monstermuncher is it. Luckily I don't have work to go to this time as has 3 year old at home to look after though for the last couple of weeks all Ive been doing is sitting on the settee while he watches tv cos I cant manage much else!

I was sick up until 40 weeks with last pregnancy so not holding out much hope this one will stop quicker.

Jaysfourth · 08/02/2010 14:58

hi all

sickness for me is soo sporadic, sometimes its all day, other times its morning, noon or night, hard to tell, and hard to combat... just trying to get on with it without actually thinking too hard about it.....ha ha ha, easier said than done i know.

Hope yours subsides bloominnorah, not good for the full 40 weeks

MammyG, i too seem to be even more anxious this time round, i think for the same reasons, it seems with each pregnancy i am wondering how lucky i can be?

Finally got my scan date through, THE 12 MARCH..... By my dates i will be exactly 12 weeks then....will be having the NT scan also.
Its also the day before my youngest's 2 birthday party..!

Hope everyone's Mondays are happy ones

bellabelly · 08/02/2010 16:40

Hi all, just checking in. Have just been to docs with the twins for our swine flu jabs, glad that's over and done with, just hoping now that we don't get any side effects! I am getting sporadic morning sickness which seems really early compared to my last pregnancy - am only 8 weeks. Last time I got it really bad for a few weeks, am hoping that it'll be much more manageable this time round. Ginger biscuits help me a lot when I'm feeling nauseous - for anyone who hasn't tried them - eat one as soon as you get up and see if it helps!

I've got my booking in appt next week, still don't know about a scan date, hope I get a letter about it soon, am so impatient!!!

Hope everyone else is doing ok, anyone got a bump showing yet? I keep checking my tum because trousers are definitely feeling tighter but I don't have a bump yet, just look a bit fatter!

willthecatbejealous · 08/02/2010 18:44

Hi Everyone, I am now 8+3, and I have only had 3 episodes of nausea so far, no sickness just the feeling.

I found Lucozade really helped but am wondering if I'm one of the lucky ones or if this is just the beginning???

All other symptoms are there though so please do not think I have escaped completely x

SkaterGrrrrl · 08/02/2010 19:14

Oh dear, throwing up in teh street sounds awful! Poor you.

I havent actually been ill, I just feel ill with nagging constant nausea which goes away if I nibble on something plain like crackers and rice cakes.

My baby book says to eat something before getting up so you're doing the right thing bloomin!

popsy1 · 08/02/2010 20:08

Hi ladies how are we all feeling?

My sickness seems to come in waves, more when i'm hungry.
bellabelly no real bump yet but waist band definately getting tighter
Does anyone still feel like its not happening? I keep asking DH if he thinks the tests were faulty??
Got an early scan next monday and booking in with midwife, either Thursday or next Wednesday (they have to let me know).
What are you all doing about telling people? Are you waiting or not??

xx

bananastew · 08/02/2010 20:13

Does anyone else have stomach ache?? I've had it pretty much constantly since I found out I'm pregnant! I seem to remember having some pains like period pains with ds but not constant stomach ache like this.

willthecatbejealous I've heard a few people say lucozade helps, I've found sweets help. I guess its the sugar fix!

Only a week to go till my scan, the last 5 weeks seem to have gone so slowly!

Jaysfourth · 08/02/2010 20:35

just to let you know, i am eating (dry) cherrios, seems to be staving of sick feeling!

while giving me something to munch on

MammyG · 08/02/2010 21:12

Oh my gosh - cant believe how ill some of you are! This is my first time suffering from nausea but no vomiting as yet. Last two pregnancies i was sick with tiredness but not actually all out nauseous. This time different story! Today for main meals just ate taster portions so tummy settled quickly enough after. Funnily enough can stomach chocolate which seems strange. Hope that passes as would like to have relatively healthy pregnancy this time round. Do hope it passes quickly for those of you that are crippled with it!

No bump yet but needed maternity pants at 12 weeks with my last baby so wondering when it will kick in this time! Although I have lost a serious amount of weight since then so might be different. Def feel I have to loosen the belt after eating even if its only a small portion.

Jaysfourth I think it is all exacerbated by then amount of babies my friends and family have had recently too. Thankfully to date all but two pregnancies ran smoothly. Just keep worrying that the other shoe will drop! Im afraid I will be living on my nerves this time round!

JodeyLea · 08/02/2010 22:33

Sympathy goes out to all the nausea sufferers! and even more to those of you who are actually physically sick. Some days are worse than others and i too seem to be able to stomach chocolates, biscuits and bread. I normally eat reasonably healthy but since the daily nausea hit last week, all I have eaten is sweet stuff and bland carbs. I'm hoping it wears off soon as i know I have put weight on already due to eating rubbish and I'm only 8 weeks! Getting a little anxious about it now!

I tried to cook a chicken stir fry tonight with rice and just couldn't eat it so ended up scoffing more toast.

Only 3 days till I break up from work though for a week, yay x

Gi1da · 09/02/2010 09:33

Wishing you all a non-nausea Tuesday! On the one hand I am very lucky not be feeling sick at this point (7weeks6) but that also makes me anxious that maybe its all just in my head. Mind you, I think the constipation has set in (sorry if TMI at this time of the morning)

I have booking in appt with midwife on Sunday, but no scan date yet. I desperately want a scan as I think it is the only thing that will put my mind at rest and confirm that yes, it really is happening! Can you beg for one pleading reassurance needed? What do they do at the booking in, it is just giving/asking for information? First time around for me, haven't a clue what to expect!

Love2Dance · 09/02/2010 09:47

Morning All. Gi1da, is your booking in appointment with local or hospital midwife? If it's local/at GP she'll probably take blood pressure, urine and have a short chat with you then tell you when she'll see you again (not much goes on). If hospital, there'll be lots of forms for her to fill in, questions about your health history, birth options, blood sample taken and booking for first scan, info about classes, diet etc. Expect to hang around for a few hours (then and thereafter at every hospital visit!).

Had my first hospital booking in yesterday. no scan until 15th March for me as am away from home town for work for 3 weeks and they don't do weekend scans. Bummer...

Thanks Love2Dance, its at the hospital so I guess its the lots of questions option. Thanks for the heads up on waiting, in that case I will walk - luckily its only about 30 mins away by foot, I seem to remember from visiting a friend there that parking is outrageously expensive (Queen Elizabeth in Woolwich, London, if anybody knows it). I can't believe how they get away with charging people so much to park at hospitals - its rare anyone actually wants to be there after all!

Sorry you have to wait so long for your scan, what a frustrating process - I know its all bah-blah routine to the health service, but its just so intense for the individuals!

Gi1da · 09/02/2010 10:16

Hi Inzidoodle - I fear its not long till I reach for the prunes myself...

My terribly romantic DP asked me if I was sure I was pregnant or did I just really need a big poo? Bless!

Swordfishtrombones · 09/02/2010 10:42

Morning Everyone

Fingers crossed but my morning sickness seems to be getting better....I don't want to speak too soon but I'm actually okay for most of the day now until around 6pm when it then gets worse and worse until I am forced to bed around 9pm. I'm nearly 11 weeks and the last two times it had cleared by 13 weeks - maybe it's another girl!

I've also gone back to normal jeans which is a relief. I must have had serious bloatage going on around week 7 or 8 to resort to the old maternity jeans. phew! I had visions of sailing around wearing our tent during August but hopefully it won't come to that! I'm not looking forward to being 8 months pregnant in August though. Yuk.

G1lda - hold on to that thought until september! I'm afraid that giving birth is EXACTLY like doing a big poo, and in fact if you just give in to it and push as if you are doing a poo it will be a whole lot easier. With DD1 I really didn't think it was pushing from the same place and the second stage went on forever. With DD2 I was prepared and she whooshed out .

Gi1da · 09/02/2010 11:05

Thanks Swordfishtrombones I WILL keep that in mind - then it all seems a lot less scary! Maybe its the joy of the ignorance but I'm not so much worried about being heavily pregnant in summer as having to get up in the middle of the night in midwinter - our house is blooming freezing! We've just moved and have a LOT of work to do - priority now will be get a new boiler in that actually warms the water more then blowing on it to take the chill off!

LadyRabbit · 09/02/2010 11:53

Hello Ladies

Just checking in after a while. Glad I'm not alone with feeling permanently pukey and knackered. I can't figure out whether I'm tired because I feel sick all the time or I'm just sick AND tired. Joy. Please, veteran mums, tell me that this will eventually go away. I feel like a zombie... Had my MIL over at the w/e, and she and I normally demolish a bottle of wine and stay up all night gossiping but we went to Sunday lunch and I crashed out all afternoon with not a drop drunk. Just said I thought I was getting flu. Hope she's buying it, because once she knows the news, so will the rest of the world!!!

Had another scan this morning, and everything is looking good for just gone 8 weeks. Roll on the next 32....

Can anyone recommend good maternity bras? And how does the sizing work - if I'm normally a 34B should I just buy that size in maternity? If anyone knows anywhere online, that's ideal. (I HATE shopping and avoid it if poss.)

SO far from this thread, I have taken the advice that childbirth is painless (was that you Jaysfourth?) and that it's just like a big poo. (thanks Swordfishtrombones). I shall be making my birthplan entirely according to your words of wisdom....

Swordfishtrombones · 09/02/2010 12:52

Hi Ladyrabbit

I'm not too sure about maternity bras. My boobs didn't change too much until after i'd given birth (am 34C) but I think I got a couple of padded non-wired bras (like tshirt bras which I normally wear) from M&S which might have been feeding ones too come to think of it. They were probably a cup size bigger. I think it really depends on whether your bust increases or not. And some people will increase a lot around their ribcage, but I stayed a 34. (Had a bump that looked like I'd swallowed a bowling ball)

I expect the advice is to get measured properly, but when I did that the lady in M&S was woefully out in her predictions.

I'm afraid you might have to go shopping...

As for birthplans, I think someone on mumsnet once said something about leaving your dignity at the door and collecting it on the way out - that pretty much sums it up Glamorous it ain't!

mellymooks · 09/02/2010 14:27

Hi folks, still feeling pukey and knackered here too!
Last time round my cup size went from an A to a D in the first 12 weeks so I would really advise getting fitted, I went to M&S who were ok but had the best help at JoJo Mamon who really seemd to know their stuff AND stock really pretty bras.
I'm looking forward to getting my date for the scan I'm at all of you who have already had yours!
I had a lovely birthplan last time, of course everything went very NOT according to plan but I'm still glad I had it, I think it helped me have really positive thoughts to how I wanted things to go and even though they ended up totally differently I still felt very calm and in control of my whole birth (or was that just cause I was high as a kite on the G&S?!)
