Congrats damnitdamnit

Thought things were finally really happening for me last night. Contractions got more painful & regular but have eased off again this morning.

Honest opinions please. Not sure if I'm being hormonally over sensitive or not. I hadn't been invited to my work Christmas do & have seen a few people from work lately who've mentioned it's a shame I'm not going so I told them I hadn't been invited. Today dh rings me to say he was just talking to the person who's organising it & she asked him if I wanted to come. It's tomorrow. I would like to go but feel like not going as I've obviously been asked as an afterthought either because dh said something or someone else from work has.

sparklycheerymummy · 26/11/2009 10:24

I'm definitely a latecomer to the party, but I'd like to join in this thread if that's okay. I need to be inspired by you all to get organised! I was horrified to realise yesterday that despite being almost 38 weeks:
The hospital bag is not packed
I have no idea how to work my TENS
My birth plan is unwritten
We have no potential boys' names if that's what comes out
I've read only one page of Childbirth Without Fear, and nothing else
I've no nursing bras
Or taxi numbers (no car either)
None of the baby clothes, blankets etc have been washed
Needless to say, no raspberry leaf tea has crossed my lips, my birth ball is uninflated, and my perineum is unmassaged. Where did the time go!?

I've slotted myself in for the 11th December. Congratulations to Charleymouse and damnitdamnit; lovely news!

welcome covycrump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milliemuffin · 26/11/2009 13:33

Welcome covycrump! Don't worry about not having read much of childbirth without fear, it's taken me a month to skim read as it's really heavy going. It is interesting but I was hoping it'd be a bit more helpful, ie practical tips, I don't feel any better prepared, I just know I have to try not to let the fear take over and let my body do what it's supposed to. My birth plan is also unwritten but we tried a home birth with my DS so both DP and MW know what I want. Ideally home water birth but I'm happy to just go with the flow.
Ps. Also unmassaged, got million and one other things to do for Xmas but I might try if I go over my edd of 27th.

FedUpWithRainyDevon · 26/11/2009 13:33

Lol Covycrump, I'm sure everything will be fine - I reckon it's probably best to be laid back about these things! x

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 26/11/2009 13:40

Welcome Covycrump! Was going to say don't worry, there will be lots of time to do all thsoe things when you go into labour, but maybe not if damnitdamnit is anything to go by! Congrats!

Claire - I think you may just be feeling a little paranoid. Would imagine your workmates didn't invite you as they thought you'd be feeling uncomfortable and if it's going to be a boozy one, that you might feel the odd one out. Do think they should have asked you, but as I say maybe they thought they had your best interests in mind? Wouldn't have said you were an afterthought, just that they realised their mistake

Seeing as a lot of us aren't going on our work christmas do's, anyone up for a "virtual social" on here? Bring your own soda and Gaviscon

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/11/2009 13:49

Welcome Covycrump, you are due the same day as me!
Claire I would say that they probably just thought you wouldnt want to come, my workmates would of probably been the same if it werent for the fact I was the one that ended up lumbered with sorting the bloody thing out.
Is it a meal out or just a big piss up?
If its the former then I would go. You'll have a good time.

Ive given up Rasberry leaf tea, went without it yesterday and all pains have gone.
Labour will happen when it happens!!

Catz · 26/11/2009 14:10

Congratulations Damit! Great news (and nice and early too ). Hope all is going well.

Welcome Covycrump. You've probably got a couple of weeks yet and plenty of time to organise those things. A lot of the stuff is passing the time/wishful thinking e.g. raspberry leaf tea etc (she says finishing her 3rd cup of the day). ARe you on maternity leave now?

Claire - agree with Biscuits and ABF on the meal out. Hope you are feeling OK, sounds a bit grim.

Am hacked off with the waiting and am still nowhere near due date! Went to a playgroup this morning and everyone was saying 'oh are you still waiting' 'wasn't sure we'd see you today' etc. I'm not even 39 weeks yet! How much will I feel like killing people if I'm still here in 3 weeks time!

Catz · 26/11/2009 14:33

arrggh - post just arrived and I've been invited for swine flu jab. Was hoping to give birth beforehand so didn't have to worry about making a decision! Not sure what to do esp as now 38+6 and it will take a few days to get an appointment so likely to give birth before I reach full immunity anyway. Also a bit worried about having 'flu like symptoms' when going into labour.

On the plus side my hotmilk bra arrived and is very nice, fits with a bit of rooom and and delivered speedily (Covycrump, if you're thinking about ordering one I got it from nursingbra-shop.co.uk - it was recommended by a couple of people further up the thread).

Claire236 · 26/11/2009 15:25

It's a lunchtime curry which will turn into a drunken evening but I can go home once everyone starts getting drunk. Thought maybe I was being a bit oversensitive. Having been signed off work since I was 27 weeks I've felt pretty isolated & I'll have been having contractions for 2 weeks tomorrow which is depressing me so all in all not too rational at the moment. Hoping the return of Gavin & Stacey tonight might make me laugh so much it turns my contractions into the real thing & I actually get this baby out.

Catz - I was hoping to avoid having to make the swine flu jab decision but decided not to have it in the end.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/11/2009 15:30

Yes definitely go Claire and have the hottest curry you can manage, might spur things on a bit!

Scorps · 26/11/2009 15:49

Catz - the vaccine is a dead vaccine; you won't get any symptoms from it, apart from a sore point of injection. The baby will benefit from your breastmilk anyway.

I'm also a due in Dec (18th) but have been terrified to join as had to bow out of two last year due to MMC. May join you on post-natal if that's OK?

Stigaloid · 26/11/2009 16:44

Welcome Covy and am in same position as you. Had a small amount of pineapple but that is about it. due in 21 days - have found birthing ball but can't find pump so it is deflated in the corner.

BexJ78 · 26/11/2009 16:49

Oh well done Damnitdamnit and Anniebigpants and welcome to Covycrump! How exciting that we are really getting going now! still no news here...think I could be in for the long haul!

Claire236 · 26/11/2009 18:23

Congratulations Annie

Catz · 26/11/2009 18:27

Just a quick question - has anyone else had shivering episodes? For the past hour or so I've not been able to stop myself shivering and I'm feeling alternately hot and cold. DH is annoyingly working late and DD is decorating the table with her dinner and really not feeling up to dealing with it!

Tillyscoutsmum · 26/11/2009 18:36

Congrats and welcome to all the new arrivals

I had a scan and consultant appointment today to see how big baby was looking and whether they want to induce me early but it looks like they're leaving him in there until he decides to come out (within reason). They estimate about 8lbs (I'm 37 weeks).

Still not prepared yet so am quite happy for him to stay put for at least another 10 days or so

LaDiDaDi · 26/11/2009 18:40

Really exciting thread!

I can't believe that we've already got three arrivals .

Congratulations to Annie and dammitdammit!

Welcome to covycrump and hello to bluesatinsah .

JeanLouiseFinch · 26/11/2009 19:19

Congratulations to Annie and Damnitdamnit!
