Congrats koumak! It must have been that busy day of shopping that brought it on! Still can't believe that you worked up until your due date. So very pleased for you! Looking forward to more details once you've had time to get used to your lovely little girl! So exciting! And lovely that she and your DH will share a birthday...

Wook it's over to you!

oh, though that means I'm going to have to pop sharpish too. Eek!! (holds hands with Usi!) Skorpion sounds like hiccups to me. Weird feeling isn't it? But in a cute way. Oh, and your comment on the plastic bags full of receipts reminded me of the first ever episode of Black Books. Bernard Black (played by Dylan Moran) is the client from hell.. Tried to find it on you-tube so I could post you a link to the precise bit, but just on Channel 4's site so you have to watch ads first. It's here and about 4.30mins into the programme if you're interested.

Longwayaway hope your sciatica clears up soon. Miserable bad luck.

Kyte Hurrah for your lovely friends and your DH & DS for finishing the job. So nice.

Kyte well I hadn't shaved my legs (or rather, had my legs shaved for me as I couldn't reach them!!) since September. If you mean for bikini line, then am going to attempt to give that a go tomorrow and will report back If you want me to post you a pack (these are really cheap ones just to try out) am more than happy to do so. If nothing else it exfoliates and is rather relaxing!

Koumak that's fantastic news, congratulations, am so happy for you Hope Becky turns up soon to write you a poem or will have to try and fill her shoes

Venus DP and I watch Black Books on repeat, because we're cool like that.

longwayaway · 02/11/2009 23:19

Congrats Koumak! Also love the name Olivia

VenusInfers · 02/11/2009 23:36

Erika knew there was a reason I liked you! Black books rocks! Have all the episodes on crackly VHS recorded off the telly but have treated myself to a boxset on DVD to help me through all those long feeds. Trying to be good and save them, but after recommending to Skorpion I couldn't resist watching the first episode.

Right, must play my LO his nightly tunes, then to sleep.

Comma2 · 03/11/2009 01:47

Congrats Koumak !! and welcome little Olivia! So exciting how we are actually getting babies. It works! It works!

Weeell, my doctor said today I'd likely go over at least a week. In fact, he measured 1 cm dialated as opposed to 2 cm dialated last week. I must be the only one regressing here.

Wook when's your dd again?

MIL has arrived and am trying to be good DIL- but I can't get over the way she a)constantly touches me (yikes!! Hands OFF my arm) and b) smells like sweat. I feel really mean , but it's a bit hard to be in the same car/room with her, I constantly feel like riping open windows etc. I worked so hard on getting the house clean and nice etc for baby, I don't want to bring her home into stink...oh god, can't believe how mean I am, but it does smell like an old gym bag. (also, MIL will NOT wash her hands, not after bathroom, not after swine-flu airport or Ikea.) Brrr. Brrr. Sorry, rant over.

EasyEggs · 03/11/2009 07:50

Koumak Huge congratulations and welcome to the world little Olivia Hope you had a good first night together x x x

scarlotti · 03/11/2009 08:01

Comma difficult situation with your MIL, but can understand exactly how you're feeling. How about getting some hand gel or something and saying that everyone in the house needs to use it once a day to stop the baby potentially getting germs until his/her immunity builds up? You can get stuff that lasts through washing hands and kills 99% of bugs.

So, who's it going to be today then? Not me I'm pretty sure Slept ok last night, only thing waking me at the moment is the heartburn which seems to have come back. Baby is still low down though so I suspect it's the same as with DS, he's now just too big for his feet not to push up against my stomach.
Midwife at the hospital said yesterday that his head needs to be pressing down on my cervix to start things dilating - bit hard when he's bobbing in and out! He's been at 4/5 at one point but don't think he stays there.

Ah well, at least it means I might get a girlie shopping day with my Mum tomorrow. Going to attempt to get some early xmas stuff sorted out. Today is a DS day so think we might head into the sea life centre in town as the weather here is dreadful.

Hope you all have lovely days

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/11/2009 08:33

koumack what fabulous news to wake up to - welcome baby Olivia and so glad it went well for you. at the sopping mattress, but at least it means a night of cuddling for you, hope you had a restful night with her in your arms.
Agree that Olivia is a gorgeous name.

Comma what a pain with your MIL. I cannot stand smelly people at the moment, more than ever. I agree that you should steal some hospital sanitiser buy some hand gel and get everyone to use it. That way you will not appear that you are targetting her specifically. You can be all like 'ok everyone time for a dose of antibac, hold your hands out', nothing wrong with coming across as a bit neurotic as a new mother, in fact, tis to be expected. I made everyone use it before they could hold DD. Even DH and I did. They are so tiny and clean I hated anything on her! DH smokes, and some of my friends do. I would not let any of them hold her for 20 mins after they had a cigerette either as I read that smoke lingers for 20 minsm did not want her to breathe it.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/11/2009 08:40

I am feeling better this morning btw. I have a cold, which is where I think yesterdays bad day came from. I am not sure I have had a cold this pg, or if I have its been mild. A cold while pg is an odd thing isn't it especially at this stage. I had a fever which I think broke last night, i felt very odd for much of the night, and DD was up a few times, poor little thing, got up and said 'you are not looking after me mama, you are not here' and I ahd to remind her that I was always here for her, just not in her room anymore, and that was because she was being all grown up and had her new special room. That did it, and she was fine after that, but I had to sing her a lullaby and stroke her hair for 20 mins before I could leave.

Now, I feel ok, snotty nosed, headachey but normal cold type affair with that horrid taste at the back of my throat, but feel ok with it. Some normal baby movements through the night, nothing much this morning, but painful back so think he kicked me in the night!

Hope everyone had good nights, wonder how many babies today will bring ?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/11/2009 08:49

oh i just remembered something too - i bought some tupperware yesterday, and lots of stuff to make food for freezer with, and got v upset that sainsburys did not have any foil pie cases. DH said this is a 'sign' of imminence, as last time with DD I made an entire freezer load of food, labeled, cleaned up, and went into labour the next morning .

ursigurke · 03/11/2009 08:55

hope there will be at least one baby today
Things took up a gear (hope that is an English expression or at least understandable) over here. Had some blood on toilet paper yesterday evening and a couple of contractions that were far more painful (still not really I think) then ever before. Went to bed at 11 and managed to get quite a bit of sleep. Now I am having contractions every 5 min but I think they are very managable so I guess it is not yet the real thing. But husband stays at home today so hopefully it was not for nothing. Called birthcentre to let them know, got some of the usual advice and therefore I'm off for a little walk now.
wook, scarlotti, I hope you can join in, would be happy to share the day.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/11/2009 09:03

Oh ursi that sounds promising! I really hope things do not linger too long for you, baby will be here soon i reckon! Enjoy your walk, hope it works ! x

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/11/2009 09:05

(and the expression would be 'stepped up a gear' or 'moved up a gear' but you made perfect sense though!)

Laugs · 03/11/2009 09:05

Morning all.

Erika thanks for the tip about the extra duvet to lie on. I had a much better night's sleep last night, despite being in so much pain before I went to bed that DH had to put my pyjamas on me!

Katster I have asked DH to do the honours with regards to trimming/shaving/ waxing (if I can handle it) down below, but have been putting it off. I did look in the mirror recently when I was checking if everything was as swollen as it felt, and it was a bit of a sight to behold! Still, I'd be more embarrassed asking a stranger to do it.

I can't remember who mentioned the pains in top of legs, but I have this. Ouch! It feels like it radiates out from my pelvis, down my inner thighs and sometimes up my bump too. I wish this were a sign that things were happening, but I have a feeling it's just another lovely pregnancy symptom.

Comma Get your MIL some hand gel! Or how about asking her to help DS (or is it DD? Sorry my memory is rubbish these days...) to wash his hands before meals - that way she'll have to wash hers too.
My FIL is a big, burly electrician and his hands always seem to be black with dirt. I remember the first time he came to see DD when she was born and DH and I both winced as we saw his giant, black hands on her. It's very hard though. You don't want to offend.

Hope you're feeling better Turtle and get well soon Pavlov.

I am jealous of all the nesting going on here. I can't even keep on top of normal cleaning. This morning we'd run out of bowls for DD's breakfast, so I washed one bowl. I'm tired...

Laugs · 03/11/2009 09:09

ursi How exciting - I hope this is it! Stay active while you can and have something light to eat if possible, as you probably won't feel like it later. I'm doing my belly dance for you

sleeplessinthecity · 03/11/2009 09:14

koumak hurray!!!! Here come the girls..fashionable late..congratulations and so pleased you're all well..Olivia is a beautiful name and we can't wait to see pics!

Funny isn't it we don't really know what we look like bar a couple of us.

Lady garden is a huge issue..i don't know what to do..not going anywhere near wax so have to rely on a mirror and a razor..i didn't worry the last time but somehow feel more exposed this time. The swiss must be very tidy down there!

There is Snow on the mountains folks so come over and do some skiing when you can..

ninja mine is doing the same thing..doesn't feel engaged at all..

ursi keeping my fingers crossed for you..

raggie · 03/11/2009 09:29

Hurray! Another girl arrives! Congratulations koumak and well done I agree that Olivia is a really beautiful name. Hope you are enjoying your first day all together.

Aww, feeling all emotional now

And good luck ursi

Fingers crossed for another exciting day on the thread!

skorpion · 03/11/2009 09:31

koumak Huge congratulations and welcome to the world to Olivia.

ursi keeping my fingers crossed for you.

sleepless shhh about the snow. Poor dh didn't get his skiing trip this year and it doesn't look likely to happen next either. Too skint and we'll be otherwise engaged anyway. It is such a beautiful part of the world where you are. Haven't been to Geneva, but we did lots of cycling in the Alps. Love it.

venus thanks for the link, I will definitely have a look. Love that show.

Trikken · 03/11/2009 09:32

congratulations Koumak! I was waiting to hear your baby news. love the name too.

keep the babies coming!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/11/2009 09:45

Koumak has had her baby, bless!
Right on her daddy's birthday, no less.
Another girl, Olivia, we love the name!
So now the rest of us must play the waiting game...
As to the next baby to come, I wonder who?
Will it be me, or will it be you?

This is getting really hard!

Congrats Koumak that's lovely news and home so soon again! Gosh I stayed 5 days with both my two DSs.

Off to the library now to return Thomas the TE DVD.

OP posts:
scarlotti · 03/11/2009 09:57

usi keeping my fingers crossed for you, it's all looking very promising so am sure your walk will bring things along nicely!!

Laugs · 03/11/2009 10:03

sleepless I don't think I worried about waxing/ shaving last time either, but I feel more exposed this time too. Perhaps because I read that article about how Brazilian is now the norm?

Did you and DH come to an agreement about his skiing days, by the way? How would he feel if a load of mumsnetters with babes-in-arms came and joined him on the slopes?

Ooh Black Books. We have the box sets but haven't watched it for a while. Manny used to be my dream man! (Now, of course, my ideal man would not dream of drinking, smoking or swearing in my motherly presence, does the washing up, offers me a massage at the end of the day, and carries with him an endless supply of doughnuts. Unfortunately DH is closer to Manny...)

wook · 03/11/2009 10:35

Ursi yay! so one of us at least is starting to get somewhere! Lulu and Ian Wright's birthdays today.
In honour of Lulu, I have already had a good old shout at dh, not good at all. It was either that or burst into tears, and he hadn't even done anything wrong Am hoping that a rampant upsurge in pmt style behaviour is also a sign of the onset of labour!

wook · 03/11/2009 10:36

Oh gosh, sorry Koumak fantastic news!!!
