New thread...

Oo sounds like things are happening, ursi! btw, "gear up" is a perfectly acceptable expression in American English - if you believe in such a thing

Laugs my sympathies on the hip pain - it's been a constant for me since about week 20! Lately I've had a pillow under my midsection (rather than directly under my hips) and that seems to have helped... I suspect the unsupported weight of my belly is straining the muscles around my pelvis at night. All I know is, it'll be over soon!

Comma sorry your MIL is being such a pain. Ick!

Pav - have not been able to find foil pie tins either! I know I bought some at Tesco last year but no sign of them since. Grr.

The good news is, both of DH's presents arrived today, just in time for his Nov. 5 birthday. He was really pleased to find out that England celebrates his birthday with fireworks

wook · 03/11/2009 10:48

Here is some more encouragement on the birthday front Ursi. Also today... Adam Ant, Anna Wintour (hmm, frosty!!), Dylan Moran (Black Books fans!) Not a bad haul!

(and -er- while I'm all for women in politics, I'm not an especial fan of this birthday girl... Jacqui Smith! But then I guess to be a female home secretary is extremely good going and shows the Scorpio strength at least)

PreggoK8 · 03/11/2009 10:57

Congratulations koumak
Hopefully won't be long for you ursi
I think things may be starting for me...
Had bad back and period like pains last night but managed to get lots of (broken as always) sleep. This morning I was leaking downstairs, but it wasn't a big gush or anything, just a couple of trickles but def not wee, and then there was mucus (really sorry if tmi) but it was clear and not bloody. Now I'm having contractions about every 6 minutes but they are just very uncomfortable and not agony. Think I'll call the midwife...
Hope my Kiddicare delivery arrives soon!

VenusInfers · 03/11/2009 11:08

Oh Ursi hope things keep progressing for you.

sleepless very jealous of your views. Snow on the mountains, sigh!! Where in Switzerland are you? I still harbour a totally unrealistic hope of snowboarding this season - it's probably going to be the first year I've missed since I took up the sport.

Comma deep sympathy. If she doesn't notice her own smell it's going to be a nightmare to make her think she needs to act differently without getting her back up. One to palm off on the DH I think!

Pav glad to hear you are feeling better. Let today be a good day...

Nothing happening here, so def down to someone else to provide today's bundle of loveliness.

tigger32 · 03/11/2009 11:09

OOOOh Its go on here today!

Huge congratulations to Koumak on the arrival of Olivia (I love that name) so glad you are both doing so well.

Ursi and Preggo sounds like things are picking up for you 2, could we have 2 babies on one day or will you be today and tomorrows??

I've just been for an eyebrow wax and pedicure and have Dh booked in to do my lady garden again tonight.

erika how are things with you and Bryn today? Is he still messing about?

pav glad things seem ok for you today, hope the cold doesn't get too bad.

I have decided that once this weekend is over I'm happy for the baby to come if only it was that simple.

Oh and fab news, my step dad managed to walk 2 flights of stairs yesterday he phoned last night to tell us as he was so proud of himself (the chap in room next door who was operated on the day before is still kicking off every time they try to get him out of bed)

Laugs · 03/11/2009 11:10

Ooh PreggoK8 that sounds very exciting! When I had the show last time it wasn't bloody either, but a very pale pink. Good luck with it all

tigger32 · 03/11/2009 11:11

that's its all go on here today

VenusInfers · 03/11/2009 11:11

x-posted with preggoK8 - how exciting for you, sounds like almost a classic start to labour. Just like the books say! Good luck!

Laugs · 03/11/2009 11:18

tigger great news about your step-dad!

Has anyone else found they are forgetting the words for everything? I just had a work phone conversation in which I spent most of the time saying 'ummm' and 'err' and 'what's it called again?'

skorpion · 03/11/2009 11:19

tigger that's wonderful news about your stepdad - must be made from good oldfashioned durable material

boo-hoo... heavens are opening over Oxford, looks like our day out is soon becoming a day in...

pavlov I recommend hardware stores. I bet you'll find your foil containers there.

preggo good luck if this is it!

This baby thread is suddenly exploding, like making popcorn Babies everywhere!

misssese · 03/11/2009 11:24

yay im so happy for everyones arrivals and possible on the ways!!! lets keep them coming!!

Trikken · 03/11/2009 11:26

gaa, keep getting family phoning me to say I have to phone them to let them know when im in labour. we'll have so much to do we cant phone everyone, and really i dont want everyone to know.

ursigurke · 03/11/2009 11:30

preggo, sounds as if we were in the same stage. yesterday the contractions were at least 10min or more apart. since this morning I went from every 5 min to something like every 3! But the length varies between 10 sec and 40 and most of them are just like period pain. So I don't really know were I am. In the morning the midwife told me not to time for a couple of hours but it's impossible. During the walk they came rather every 2min, but again not too painful. But I suppose there is an end in sight.

skorpion · 03/11/2009 11:32

trikken eek, why would you want to let everybody know, for goodness sake? Do they expect updates on centimetre by centimetre basis, too

Trikken · 03/11/2009 11:34

probably. id feel very under pressure everyone knowing. our mums knowing would be fine, but id prefer to let everyone know when shes actually arrived. my dad almost demanded to be told. dont know why, he hasnt cared for the rest of the 9 months.

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/11/2009 11:45

Ursi and Preggo sounds very good. I'm impressed you can go onto mumsnet between contractions: my experience is fast and furious so there's no way I would have been capable!!! I've just had such a lovely treat: decaf latte and hot buttered toast in town. It was bliss. I am suffering now though with heartburn but it was sooooo worth it.

DS1's birthday party is Saturday (a week ahead of his birthday for obvious reasons!) so I have been thinking of things to do for that. It isn't officially a party but a 'birthday tea and play'. I wasn't going to do party bags but decided to get everyone a little present to take home instead: so spent just £10 in Works on a load of books for all the children - bargain city.

Watching This Morning - I am really starting to like this maternity leave lark.

skorpion · 03/11/2009 11:46

I wouldn't worry - what are they going to do? It is an event for you, your baby and dh to share, the rest can wait. It's not like you'll be able to stay on the phone anyway. Just don't worry about it

misssese · 03/11/2009 11:52

trikken just ring them when baby has arrived if they say why didnt you ring when it all started just say " oh sorry you wanted me to tell you , completely forgot must be the pregnancy brain!!!" hehehehe

ErikaMaye · 03/11/2009 11:54

Venus first episode, huh? ?I?m not doing my tax returns.? ?Why not?? ?Because you can stick it up your arse.? To non-watchers ? first and last quote must be said in drunken Irish accent

Scarlotti hope you and DS enjoy the Sea Life Centre ? wave to the turtles for me!!

Pavlov I hope you feel better soon. Though I must say, every time you so much as mention your DD my heart melts a little ? she sounds so adorable!

Usi am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Laugs I?m glad you slept a little better ? it was the wonderful ladies on here that alerted me to it, and I?ve slept much better since too And I laughed at dreaming of Manny, you strange woman As for forgetting words ? in a café recently I asked for a toasted cheesecake instead of a toasted teacake

Becky so glad you turned up, was worried I?d have to dig my old poetry brain out

Preggo ohhh that sounds good!! Keep us updated, thinking of you!!

Tigger that?s fab news about your step-dad Have been thinking of you both, and that is such a good sign. Bryn seems to be playing hide and seek with my cervix

Trikken I keep having texts from people asking if I?ve had the baby yet. Really starting to get on my wick!!

Well the midwife just left ? he?s very low down. But has turned so is facing the wrong way, limbs to the front Am really worried now. She said he will turn with strong contractions, but what if he doesn?t? Does that mean I?d have to have a CS? Don?t you tear worse if baby is the wrong way? Am so scared now Looks like I?ll be spending most of my time on my hands and knees hoping for the best from now on?

sleeplessinthecity · 03/11/2009 11:57

Laugs a Brazilian!??? no way ...unless its guaranteed to start labour, I'm not doing it!!!!

my belly is still quite high..how do i get it to drop..???skipping?

Folks we're in a village called Hermance by the lake with gorgeous views of the Jura. Come and visit we have plenty of room..

DH is drinking skiing with the boys in Jan and we're doing a week in March with the babes in Les Arcs. I may get to do mornings or a few hours in the afternoon, so come along mumsnetters! I was a little apprehensive about going but you know after a rough first year with DD when I literally went nowhere I'm going to make an effort and live a little.

VenusInfers · 03/11/2009 11:58

Trekken can you just let the mums know and then they can update other members of the family? Means that at least you only have two people to keep in the loop, and hopefully less pressure.

misssese · 03/11/2009 12:03

erikamaye my friends baby was born spine to spine ( head down) she only found out afterwards as no1 thought to tell her?????? the birth was very fast and no tears not much pain either-so try not to worry xx

Laugs · 03/11/2009 12:08

Erika Don't worry. I was told that almost all babies turn during labour, if not before. It is just the easiest way for them to get out - they turn to find the smallest circumference of the head - so nature should encourage this anyway. If it doesn't turn, you don't need a CS. The reason people worry is because it can make labour longer. DD was back-to-back when I went into labour. I can't remember if she turned or not though...

Trikken I told a few people last time I was in labour and I wish I hadn't. I think they did too! I had no idea it would be so bloody long, so when I text my friend early one morning to say contractions had started, then she didn't hear from me for a day and a half, she was obviously worried. And I was far too busy by that point to think of anyone else. This time I'm telling my parents (who need to come and mind DD) and nobody else!

longwayaway · 03/11/2009 12:14

Trikken I agree with Laugs - no reason to tell anyone! It is annoying that people feel entitled to these things. A friend of mine was due on Halloween and I am dying to know what's going on but I am sure I'll get an e-mail when everyone else does and I certainly know better than to bother her right now! I'm still 3 weeks out and already have people telling me it'll happen "any day now"! All fun and games for them, isn't it (Sorry, ranting!)

Tigger Great news about your stepdad

Sleepless - jealous!

Laugs · 03/11/2009 12:17

I meant to ask, Tamlin, are you letting DH go to Texas? Did he get paternity leave or is it all finished now?

I must admit I feel very strongly about paternity leave, so DH WILL be taking it, but he has been making lots of noises about how he can't hand work over to anyone else and he is going to be worrying about how much extra work he'll have when he gets back. I do sympathise. A bit. But the working mother in me thinks that if men stood up for their parental rights a bit more, then that would make life easier for mothers and fathers.
