Logged on to see if the full moon got anyone going, and we have a proposal, a Halloween baby AND an All Souls baby?! Congratulations, everyone! (Also, Fruit I'm rather relieved to see that we're not the only ones who didn't have a moniker lined up the second the baby came out.)

I think Arthur is starting to fill out a little - his Gollum-like figure is getting a bit plumper around the thighs, and his cheeks are getting fatter. Unfortunately, he's also reached the flaky and spotty stage, when their skin seems to come off in parchmenty shreds and they get teenage acne on their chins and cheeks. I hate this stage because I am one of nature's born pickers, and it kills me just LOOKING at him and knowing that picking at your newborn is high on the list of Things Good Mothers Don't Do.

In other news, DS appears to be sick with a cold. I am resisting the urge to lock him in his room away from the tiny fragile baby with a big plague sign on the door. Also, DH came sidling up this morning with a furtive look on his face, and said 'Honey, I just got an email from the boss... and could I go to Texas next week?' Texas? TEXAS?!?!

Hello all. Just adding myself back in.
Well there's lots of exciting stuff happening at the mo! Congrats fruit and helips, and to you too Claired. Lots of things to smile about this morning

Midwife said baby was engaged on Thursday but feel stupid as she didn't say how much and I didn't ask. Der! Now all I want to know is how much!!! Have a v strong pressure on and off on my bum which is pretty intense, as well as the sore pelvis and hips. Last week I had a couple of pains where the back ache wrapped round to the front like a period pain, but that's it. Does any of this sound promising at all? First baby and have no clue...

misssese · 02/11/2009 12:15

does it say in your mat notes? mine didnt tell me neither but she wrote it in my notes!!

VenusInfers · 02/11/2009 12:21

Hiya.

Just looked back, can't believe that the news about the babies and Claired21's engagement all came in less than half a dozen posts!

Claired21 Congratulations!! The story of your proposal is just lovely! Your DF put it so beautifully. That's so funny about him checking 5mins later to make sure that you had def agreed, my DH did exactly the same thing. It must be such a nerve wracking thing to do.

pav and lissey really interesting to read what you said about how engagement of the babies head feels. Sounds pretty uncomfortable but unmistakable. I guess my LO is def NOT engaged yet. Felt a bit down yesterday as the EDD came and went with barely a BH to mark it. Both my sister's DC were over a week early so I was hoping that mine would follow it's cousins' examples but no such luck. My mum (retired midwife) reassures me that it's extremely likely to happen in the next few days, but it certainly doesn't feel like it... I

Erika certainly sounds like you are getting close. Fingers crossed for you.

laugs Turning over in bed becomes such a palaver doesn't it? You wake up with an aching hip, knowing it's time to change sides, and wondering how long it's going to take this time! I've started drawing up my legs and using my knees as leverage to get me over onto the other side. Still end up huffing, puffing and feeling faintly ridiculous. Oh, the glamour of pregnancy!

PreggoK8 · 02/11/2009 12:23

No, it just says "eng" I'm hoping baby is loads engaged and it wont be long. How much are you?

LissyGlitter · 02/11/2009 12:31

Dp accused me of trying to break the bed the other night as I turned myself over - and he was only half joking! Admittedly, our bed is really creaky so it did probably sound alarming. Is anyone else getting sharp pains at the very top of their thighs and hips as they turn? I'm lucky to have a rail near my bed, as when I get up I have to hold on for a minute while the pain and inevitable strong BH passes. Good god, I'm falling apart.

We managed a bit of sex last night, although it really is getting very awkward. I don't remember having any problems last time, pretty sure we were still merrily banging away all the way through, but this time I really can't find a position where I can really get into it, which ever way I do it something hurts! Shame, because not having to worry about getting pregnant is pretty good!

misssese · 02/11/2009 12:32

3/5ths but from what iv read and been told you can be engaged like that for weeks!! lol im always too shy to ask my midwife questions incase its something i should no also she isnt really the chatty type!! has anyone had a show yet heard that the birth normally follows quite soon after that ?? havent had mine yet preggok8 i hope our babies hurry up what you having?? im having a girl!

scarlotti · 02/11/2009 12:36

Morning all

Well another false alarm this end this morning and another return trip to the hospital. Apparently 3rd babies are notorious for messing about and I could be in this latent stage for weeks

Had a good chat with mum and step dad this morning and am now convinced that they're happy to stay and I'm not putting them out so hopefully that will relax me now so labour can not only start but keep on going.
Contractions this morning were 5 mins apart but not strong enough to be dilating ones.

Sigh. Sunny here so off for a long walk on the seafront now.
Hope everyone else is having a nice day.

PreggoK8 · 02/11/2009 12:47

Oh Scarlotti, how frustrating! Hopefully things will really start with you properly and baby will come soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Misssese don't be afraid to ask, it's what they're there for and if we've not done it before, how are we supposed to know?! I had one midwife who wasn't chatty at all and was more interested in talking to her nurse than me, but I still made sure I asked everything I needed to before I left. The next time I saw her she was much more attentive
I don't know what I'm having, but I have a feeling it's a boy. How lovely you're having a girl, you decided on a name yet?

PootleTheFlump · 02/11/2009 13:02

Tamlin - I am going to be terrible, I am a real picker as well and have no idea how my friends with babies resist. Am hoping that when it's my own LO I won't have such strong desires to pick!!

Scarlotti - seems unfair that 3rd babies muck about, surely you should be rewarded with an easy ride for doing it all again!!! Hope it kicks off for good soon.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 02/11/2009 13:07

i am a picker too. luckily dd did not suffer with spots, but about 3 months old got a deep blackhead for some reason. i just had to get it, for her own sake of course. And felt exceptionally bad about it! I managed to avoid picking the cradle cap, only because each time i took a little off she lost some of her wonderful blond baby hair, so i resisted and let it come off on its own, but it was hard .

tamlin your big little one has a cold, must be stresfull knowing you can't give lo anything if he gets one too, at this young age. fingers crossed he will be resistant!

Ninjacat · 02/11/2009 13:09

Pav hope all is well. You have every right to worry, this is your baby and alongside dd the most precious thing in your life so don't feel silly for asking advice from the maternity unit. I'm sure they would prefer safe than sorry

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 02/11/2009 13:11

ninja appears the maternity unit did not consider safe better than sorry. they considered me to be overly worrying and go have a bath. He has wiggled since, and appears fine now, although his kicks are very strong now, he just had another 10 min outburst of rib kicking and my word i thought he was going to break right out of my belly alien style .

Tamlin · 02/11/2009 13:14

Scarlotti, oh no, I am so sorry. In hindsight, I was in early labour on and off from Tuesday when I lost the plug to Sunday when the baby actually showed up - not much fun, but when things got cracking, they really did get going. I hope it won't be much longer for you.

Missese, I got told that the baby was 'ceph 4/5 eng' one week and free-floating footling breech at my next appointment. Not sure how much I trust those assessments now...

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 02/11/2009 13:16

missese sometimes babies pop in and out of engagement. not always. and more often with subsequent babies, like this one. I often feel he has engaged somewhat by the evening, only to find, in the morning, he is swimming around happily again, bump appears higher!

hobnob57 · 02/11/2009 13:30

Pav you were right to phone the MW - they should deal with ANY concerns you have. If it had been me, I'd have popped down the road and asked someone to check the heart rate, but I'm lucky in that I'm only 5 mins walk from the community midwife's office. It is such a reassurance. If hospital was my closest contact I would have been reluctant too maybe.

Speaking of free floaters, mine was merrily diagonal this morning It's head was playing real havoc with my transverse stomach muscles above my right pelvis.

Very tempted to pop on trampoline just now as DD is napping, but new folk are moving in next door and the sight of a full-term pregnant woman bobbing up and down over the fence mightn't be the best way to introduce myself

scarlotti lots of bouncing vibes coming your way too, enjoy your walk!

longwayaway · 02/11/2009 13:47

MW has just been by with a student. Booked my homebirth, yay. She keeps finding protein in my wee, tho... And today my BP was high (for me - not in general) so now I'm all worried they'll find some excuse to make me go to the hospital. Meh.

Unrelated but having been home all day waiting for the MW to turn up, I was extremely annoyed to check the post and find a "Sorry, you were out" slip alerting me to a missed package! Royal Fail

tigger32 · 02/11/2009 14:18

Oh longway how annoying I did read somewhere that some postman are just putting the cards through and not even trying the door! In fact trainees aren't even allowed to carry parcels!

scarlotti what a pain! Still it's another step closer to meeting your lo.

Pav hope you and Lo are ok now, you must have been worried.

Well I have spent the morning cleaning/tidying upstairs and have just spent half an hour playing cars and half an hour ironing, am shattered now!

ursigurke · 02/11/2009 14:39

Pavlov, I suppose your baby is just sleeping after all that action. Can you feel its position now? Maybe it just changed sides or something like that? But I agree with hobnob, they should take you more seriously. Maybe your GP can listen to the heartbeat, just to make you feel better.
longwayaway, did they check your BP only once? It happened to me the last 3 times that the first trial was really high for me, they tried again and it was fine. One midwife said, it could just be due to the pulled back sleeve.
scarlotti, I'll join you in your walk. Good to hear that your parents are actually happy to stay. I suppose you worrying about this situation doesn't help labour. But now you can just relax and wait.

BeckyBendyLegs · 02/11/2009 14:45

Longwayaway, Tigger is right they often do this. It was on a programme like the One Show or something all about it. Postmen who work in the countryside or on bikes or trainees just take the card, pre-written. It is awful! It is such a faff to have to go collect the parcel too.
