Congratulations cookiemonster and welcome Benedict

Newbeemummy Ronniemummy MeHimCatBob and Hattie*-sending positive vibes to you all, your wait will soon be over!

smallone · 02/11/2009 10:12

Morning all,
Has anyone heard from hackneybird?

George is 4wks old today

Both my friends babies had red marks that became more obvious in their first month but then faded slowly over their first year. They were sort of blotchy under the skin but not lumpy like a port-wine stain would be.

Congratulations cookiemonster

fluffycats · 02/11/2009 11:19

Thanks for the info on the birth marks. I've decided the worst thing to do is search on the internet! They always seen to report the worst possible scenario!

Cheers

devilsadvocaat · 02/11/2009 13:15

fluffycats, my ds has these on his face. he is 2.4 yrs now and one has gone, two more left. i think they almost always go before they reach 3 yrs.

six weeks approaches and am starting to get this feeding thing under control. just realised we forgot to register ds2's birth though. eek. have just booked the appt, he'll be 6+3 weeks. they said it would be ok.

i have had urges to jog...
seriously want to get in my old clobber again and burn bin my maternity/bigger clothes.

xxxxxx to those still waiting

littlepea72 · 02/11/2009 15:06

Just wanting to say hi to everyone, congrats to those who have given birth also

Not been on as Faith is really sick at the moment, back to see the doctor tomorrow, will know more than i hope.

xx

Treats · 02/11/2009 18:22

Meant to post on Saturday just so that I could change my username to 'TrickorTreats', but didn't have time .

Isabel's still really restless and crying a lot during the day. Might have to pop into the baby clinic tomorrow and see what they say. Maybe it;s just normal, but would be good to check it out for my own peace of mind. Does anyone have anything similar?

HT - glad the Lansinoh is helping. It's magical stuff......

Labour vibes to those still expecting. Feels surreal to think about being pregnant. It was only 5 weeks ago but feels so much longer.....

kowaikiwi · 02/11/2009 20:07

Congrats cookiemonster and hoping everyone else waiting us doing ok.

Haven't been on for a while as struggle to do anything at the moment. princessmel sounds like you have the same problem as we do. Sadie sleeps all day & just won't settle at night. I'm so tired that I find it hard dealing with her at night, I dread going to bed. I need to get her down because dp works 6 days & needs his rest. So past few nights have been spent in tears rocking a grizzly baby for up to 4 hours at a time. DP rescued me last night & I was completely gutted when he took her & she went straight to sleep. I'm just not used to having absolutely no idea what I'm doing! Need to call someone tomorrow as the HV hasn't contacted me & I could really do with talking things out before I go properly insane. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this.
I've booked to go on an NCT course starting next week, it feels quite early but I could do with some company. Has anyone else been on one of these Early Days courses?
Big hugs to everyone who is feeling very pregnant, tired or poorly & big waves to all the new babies.
Kk

peachespaige · 03/11/2009 10:36

Just quikly.

kowaikiwi Are you breastfeeding? Could it be that she can smell the milk on you and not dh....maybe thats why she settles better with him? Just a thought.

Joining the group is a good idea, talk to other new mums and meet their babies etc.

Congrats cookiemonster same weight as Freddie .

littlepea I hope Faith is better soon.

Well after feeding every 1.5 hours through the night, I tried something different... I stopped bf lying down as we both fall asleep, I made sure I fed for 20 mins minimum and offered both breasts and winded him well.....and last night he stretched it to 2.5 hours!!

We have just made birth anouncement cards. I painted his foot and pressed it on to some card, now Im going to add a photo! Can you tell I slept better!!

Dp has been doing the school run every morning and says he will do it for another month, has arranged his work around it, which means after the 5.30ish feed I can sleep until the next feed which was 9 this morning, but I got up at 8 to see my other 2 boys. Its such a relief.

Anyone heard from Hackneybird?

NewbeeMummy · 03/11/2009 10:41

Hoping to join the list of new arrivals soon, Managed to get squeezed in for my induction this afternoon, so at least I won't have to wait until the 8th as they origonally thought.

After waiting so long, I can't believe that I am actually so nervous about this, I can't wait to hold her but it's the bit between than and now that has me slightly worried. I know I'm just being silly, but I feel I can be open about the nerves on here as you've all been through it before.

My thoughts go out to you Hattie, do hope things happen for you soon.

x

Treats · 03/11/2009 11:38

kowaikiwi - I have the same situation - Isabel is much calmer with DH. I think it;s for the reason that peaches said. I can get her to sleep if I put her in the Baby Bjorn though. And I had a revelation this morning that the sound of the hairdryer sends her straight off, so try a few different things and see what works.

So sorry that you're having this experience but it WILL pass eventually. Good luck.

hackneybird · 03/11/2009 12:12

Hi everyone

Just checking in. Joe Lyle was born last Thursday afternoon on 29 Oct after an emergency c-section. 8lb 4oz.

Was in hopsital from Tuesday until Saturday. All the induction attempts failed until they put me on a syntocin drip, and after back to back labour for 20 hours (ouch), his head turned out to be in totally the wrong position and he got stuck. Forceps wouldn't work so surgery it was. A nightmare experience but with the best outcome.

Joe is lovely and I am besotted.

Hope you are all well, am off to catch up now.

Congratulations Hackneybird Your experience sounds a bit like mine with Joseph (syntocin drip, head in odd position) Hope you are recovering well and being pampered lots.

NewbeeMummy Good luck, not long now!

Treats Another fan of the hairdryer here and the vacuum cleaner...and the washing machine, dishwaher...

Two small breakthroughs here yesterday-Joseph dropped off to sleep in his cradle swing for 10 minutes (long enough for me to do a happy dance) and last night was the first night DH didn't have to take a screaming baby out in the car at 1am to get him off to sleep! It has taken days of me dancing around like a demented fairy in the day but he is finally working out day from night, I think. We co-slept, he fed twice lying down and then got up at 6am.

Quick question-Im still bleeding 4 weeks on, not v much but its there when I wipe. Just wondering how long until it stops. I've got quite stron pelvic pain thats come on in the last few days, def not period pain, its much lower. Its v sharp and comes in waves a few times a day-any ideas?

littlepea72 · 03/11/2009 15:42

HT is it just normal, ive just stopped bleeding after 1 month, sometimes i still have blood when i wipe, the pains come & go as well. I remember this happening to me the last pregnancy, it lasted off & on for about 6 weeks.

Well done Hackneybird! My first pregnancy was like that, but as least everything is ok, that makes the birth more bearable afterwards. Just take things easy now for a couple of weeks.

Faith is still being really sick, reflux, but they wont give her anything for it, even though when she is sick it comes out at such a force, it hits the wall. She is now on milk for hungier babies, and now is 11 lb at 4 weeks old....big baby with lovely chubby cheeks & legs. Doesnt sleep at night or during the day now, feel like a zombie. Lovely DH wont do anything and says working men dont do any work with the baby. Made a voodoo doll of him..... i will get my own back on him...watch this space

kowaikiwi · 03/11/2009 16:54

Thank you peachespage & treats I will follow yr advice. The hairdryer can't be any less noisy than her crying & luckily dp can sleep through a lot (well lucky for him anyway). I think I just have to accept this is the way it is for a while.
Good luck newbee so glad it's finally happening for you.
Big congrats hackneybird I know you were worried about it, but you don't have to worry anymore. Hope you're doing ok.
HV just called after I chased so looking forward to seeing her, and to attending the NCT course next week. I have chiropractors & drs this week now too, so will have to be brave and step outside on my own!

HumphreysCorner · 03/11/2009 18:19

Congrats to Cookie and Hackney-well done ladies.

littlepea-sorry to hear that Faith is poorly, hope she is better soon.

Glad the bleeding question has been asked as I have stopped wearing pads but every now and again I get cramps and some bleeding. Think it is when I feed more.

I too dread night times as Matthew goes to sleep then wakes 1pm or slightly later, is very sick and flatly refuses to settle. Left him 30 mins then gave in and put him in our bed which is sompletely against my beliefs but was desperate. Hoping I haven't started something that will be difficult to stop. Managed to feed him lying down (most uncomfortable, is there a better way of doing this?). As he sicks all the time he is permanently hungry so wants to feed all the time.

Anyway, must get some tea.

Good luck to Newbee-won't be long now. Who else is still waiting?

Big wave!

lixanismapolium · 03/11/2009 22:20

Congrats to those new mummies since I was last on here and good luck to the last few to give birth. I've not done a good job of keeping up with you all I'm afraid - it is all so hectic with 2 (and it's the 4yo needing all the extra time, not the baby!)

I am also still bleeding on and off after 4 weeks, so I guess it must be quite normal. I was beginning to get slightly concerned as it was only 4 days with DD1.

Phoenix is doing really well - feeding lots in the day, but only waking once in the night for a quick feed somewhere between 3 and 4 am. I'm expressing extra bits of milk regularly through the day and we give her a big bottle feed just before we go to bed. That seems to knock her out for most of the night.

Sorry to hear some of you are not getting much sleep at all. We had similar problems with DD1. We ended up having to force her to stay awake and feed in the day so that she was exhausted at night and had no option other than sleeping. It was hard work though.

Going to try and keep a bit more up to date with everyone's news from now ...

kowaikiwi · 04/11/2009 00:08

Just added a couple of pics of my beautiful baby girl .
I also found and downloaded free mp3 files of white noise for babies - I've got it playing on loop through the computer for her and so far it seems to have worked - we've only been restless for 1 hour instead of 5, that's progress!
I have friends who have warned me that you can bleed off and on for up to 4 weeks if not longer. It can go away and then come back and take you by surprise so be careful and don't go unprepared.

Goodnight x

fluffycats · 04/11/2009 02:52

Congrats Hackneybird, hope you are doing ok, sounds like quite an ordeal xxx

kowaikiwi - princessmel - Have the same deal here, Ella sleeps all day then likes to party (cry) at night, have also found myself crying for sleep. Once I decide I'm obviously not going to get any and get up to give her a walk around, I feel much better and Ella seems to go to sleep more easily, its almost as if she's thinking 'Well there's no fun keeping you awake if you don't mind it!!' By the way Treats, how the flippin heck do you get yours out of the Baby Bjorn without waking her! I have Ella in a carrier now (2.45am) she's fast asleep but I'm scared of trying to get her out as its not that easy and I don't want her to wake again! Mind you its a good time to catch up on the thread!!

peachespaige like your idea about smelling the milk on you (don't care if its true or not but sounds like a pretty good reason to me!) My partner is generally better at getting Ella off to sleep than I am too.

NewbeeMummy, I think everyone is super scared when they are waiting to pop, I know I was, If it makes you feel any better, I did find the time went by really quickly in labour and just think of all those different drugs we get to pick now adays!! You'll soon be looking back on the whole experience trying to remember what it was like being pregnant and planning your next one!! (Well maybe a year down the line!!) As soon as Ella was out I felt back to myself again, its amazing what your body and mind can cope with when you have such a fantastic reward at the end!

Right going to attempt to take Ella out of the carrier now and put her to bed. Fingers crossed!

saraheb · 04/11/2009 09:55

Just wanted to let those still waiting know I am thinking of you. Can still remember what it was like (only just though ) as I went 10 days over before my induction.

As Robert has gone back to sleep (miracle) and I am dressed before 9am (double miracle) I thought I would take a moment to write my birth story.

I went into hosp at 8.30am as instructed only to wait until 10.30 to go down to the labour ward from the maternity ward. I was 4cm dilated (from 2cm on the thurs when saw mw), then the mw attempted to break my waters. When she did there was no gush of waters at all she tried 3 times then said she was going to get the senior mw to come and take a look as she thought she had broken the two membranes. The more senior one asked if I had had any leakage since thurs when I saw my mw but I hadn't. They suggested I walked around for a while to see if anything happened. With dd the gush of the waters breaking sent me into full blown labour and I had relied on that happening again - grrr. About 12.30 I felt a couple of small gushes and it looked as if waters were finally releasing. Told the mw when she came in and was using my tens machine for the slight contractions I was having.

At 2.30pm she re-examined me and I was still 4cm dilated with slight contractions. The mw was keen for the delivery to get moving (and so was I as I had my eye on the clock and was worried about dd and family who were waiting for news. The mw wanted to induce me which I thought meant some gel but actually was a drip-based one (no idea what it was called but am sure others will). She made a mess of putting the canula in and so had to get the consultant to put it in the other hand (apparantly I have branching blood vessels which makes it difficult to get it in).

As she left the room to get the consultant my contractions started with avengence and I needed gas and air rather than tens alone - was quite painful now (understatement). At 3pm they started the drip even though I was sure I had really started now. Mw admitted she had given me a really good sweep as part of the exam and I am sure that's what started me off and I didn't need the drip. Added to that they had to put monitors on me which I hated. Baby was kicking against them the whole time and all I wanted was for them to take them away - it made the pains of contractions worse when baby was kicking against it and the monitors constantly. I don't think she believed me about the baby pushing that way until she felt and exclaimed that it certainly was an active baby - no kidding. Plus he kept moving and she had to keep adjusting the monitors and I kept pulling at them too which didn't help. I must have been an awful patient (not patient at all, lol).

Anyway everything happened really quickly with the drip (1mg per hour rate - lowest it would g0). I had felt the need to push for a while but was holding back because I didn't want to tear like I did last time. Mw must have noticed because she asked me about it and I said I didn't want to tear. She told me the baby was just waiting to come out and I was fully dilated. So I gave a couple of pushes and the head came through, breathed through the next contraction and then pushed again at the next and he came out in one go at 4.55pm.

Everything happened very quickly really in the end although I was slow to start. I only had a small tear that wasn't bleeding and didn't need stitches.

I hope this is seen as a positive induction for anyone worried about having one. Even though it was painful it wasn't long and I was just soooo relieved not to need stitches. First time I went to the loo for a wee was ok too. Had prepared myself for it to hurt but it didn't. Was really amazed!

HappyTangerine · 04/11/2009 13:49

Saraheb that is a really positive birth story, well done. What is it with babies and monitors-they all seem to hate them.

Good luck to those still waiting, really looing forward to your news

Had bad night here, developed a hacking cough in a matter of hours late last night that I can't seem to shake. Agony to eat or drink anything. Every time I cough when feeding a)my stomach hurts even more and b) it wakes up Joseph as he is dropping off. So we have a really tired baby and me here today. Am trying to eat something but my appetite has gone awol so its mainly waiter/liquids. Tried to feed Joseph him lying down at 3.30am at DHs insistence and he kept latching on badly-voila I have yet another bloody nipple blister, just as the others had healed. After 3.30am feed I couldn't get back to sleep. Seeing the state I'm in, DH has taken the day off work. I am just feeding Joseph and dozing, I don't have much left in the way of energy. Flaming winter colds (grumble) lousy timing.

princessmel · 04/11/2009 14:38

Hi all,

I think I may have made my evening issues with Freddie sound worse than they are. Doing a discredit to Freddie bless him!! When I said he was awake, I just meant that he often has his awake time just when we get tired. But he is not crying , just feeding and looking around. But generally he feeds every 3 to 4 hours and has an awake time a few times a day.
But saying all of that, last night he was awake from 5 till almost 10 and feeding for a LOT of that time. My nipples were feeling chewed and I was beginning to worry a bit. Even though the rational side of me knew that it was only a matter of time before he conked out. He was soo tired in the end, but kept rooting and just took ages to fall asleep.
Then when he did, he slept till 4am, so for 6 hours. Dh and I had a great chunk of sleep. Then he had a quick feed at 4 and slept again till 7ish when I got him up as I was worried he'd not fed much all night. How crazy is that after wanting him to stop feeding, I wake him to feed!!! He is currently in his crib zonked!!

Right are you ready for this? It is loooooooong. Been doing it on and off all day.
Maybe don't read if you've not delivered yet....!

Birth Story
On Thursday the 22nd I went to my MW for my routine appt. She discussed a sweep and said she was reluctant to do one until I was 7 days late. She said she really thought that labour would start all by itself and suggested walking. So I walked thursday and friday, to collect the dc's and round the park.
Friday night I went to bed and at 12.30am woke to do a wee. I knocked my bump on the end of the bed by mistake and it hurt more than usual. I remember thinking on the way to the loo, 'I wonder if my waters break on the loo' ( I thought that every night though!!) and after I did a wee I felt a pop and then heard some water (about the same amount as a cup of tea) come out, then the same thing happened again. I called out to dh, but didn't want to shout as the dc's had been unwell and had been coughing a lot in the night. Didn't want to wake them. So I went into the bedroom, turned on the light and said, 'dh my waters have broken'. He said' what time is it?', and when I said half 12, he said 'oh I've only had 2 hours sleep'!!!!!
He then proceeded to change the sheets and I went to call mum and the Delivery suite.
I told them that my waters had gone and that when I'd been in 2 weeks before, they'd said I was 4cm dilated and had bulgy waters. She said I should come in to be checked. I was thinking 'checked??? I'm coming in to have my baby!!!!'

Anyway we went to the hospital (was feeling worried on the way) and as I got out of the car, my waters went again and this time loads of fluid came out, all over me and my trousers and shoes etc. I was quite shocked and it was also drissly raining. I said 'I'm going to start walking, catch me up' and set off across the carpark.
Dh then said shouted 'where are the notes'?? And we had a bit of a discussion about who'd had them and who should have remembered them...I shouted across the carpark 'I'm having a baby, I can't believe you're getting cross with me!!'

I was crying by then. And my teeth were really chattering , dh was trying to get me to calm down.

Anyway we went up to the DS and I remember thinking as we passed somebody, 'omg I look a total state' . When I got to the desk, I told the MW who I was and she asked for my notes and I said/cried 'I forgot them'. She was NOT impressed. She gave me a 'look' and asked me for a urine sample. I burst into more tears in the loo!
When I came out and gave them the sample, her and another MW just looked at me. They said 'why are you crying?' and I said I was scared They stood there are just watched me sobbing for a few minutes! I felt a total wally.

After a bit we went down to Triage so I could be assessed. Straight away I removed my knickers and trousers, because they were soaked, but I think the MW thought I was crazy. I knew I wasn't going anywhere though . She put me on the moniter and gave me a VE. She said she also was giving me a sweep. She said that I was still 4cm dilated, but because I could tell her all the details from my notes....I'd read them so much I'd memorised them (4cm dilated, soft stretchy cervix, posterier, 1cm long cervix, bulgy waters)she could see that I had changed and progressed. My cervix wasn't 1cm anyomore or posterior etc.
So she said I could stay in. (as if there was any doubt!)

She left the room and almost immediately I started having cx. They were NOTHING like bh and totally painful. From the start.
I was in pain and literally hanging off the bed, I was sort of rolled onto my side and clinging onto the headboard bars of the bed. I sent dh out to get the MW and he came back and said he couldn't find her. Lots of 'well go and look again' shouting from me'!! This happened a few times untill she reappeared. She could see I was in pain and we set off for a room. She was very concerned with wrapping me in a sheet, as I was naked (apart from socks) from the waist down. I couldn't care less!!

I walked into the room and went straight to the wall with the G+A on it. I really took it in deeply and it did help. For a very short time, I felt drunk and commented that it was like being in my favourite bar!!
But then the happy feeling went and I was back to being in total agony again. I was standing up and leaning backwards onto dh, grabbing huge chunks of his hair. Also his tummy (he has a huge bruise now).I was asking about pain relief and when I mentioned pethedine the mw said 'oh you dont want that, it will make you go all funny' . I thought the funnier the better but I didn't get any.
At some point I screamed (words to the effect of) 'this is why I chose to be on this floor and not the birthing cenre...I don't want to be a f*ing earth mother' and went on and on about not wanting pain and this was not what I had wanted. Oh dear!!

The anethsiatist(sp) was in theatre with 2 ladies and we were told that I was next.
When he came in I was over the moon and was saying 'the drug man, the drug man' over and over and reaching out for him!! I was still standing at this point. He put the canulla in my hand and then it was time for me to sit on the bed. But as I sat down, it was such a strange sensation and I got up and shouted out 'The baby's coming out, RIGHT NOW'!!! So all the MW got on their knees and looked expecting to see it popping out!!
After that the 'drug man' left the room

The Mw's put me on the bed and were asking me if I had any urges to push, but I didn't. I was sort of trying to push anyway, but couldn't remember how to do that! I was trying to imagine I needed to poo but nothing was moving down there.
Then they TOOK MY G+A AWAY!!!! OMG! I went nuts!!!! I was begging and shouting to get it back and saying they were torturing me and how I couldn't understand why they wouldn't let me have it. I was truely in pain and was desperate. They said I needed to push and I wasn't doing it properly. They also said I had been getting too high on the G+A. Dh then said ' the baby needs to come out' and I shouted at him to 'f* off'

Omg, this reads so awful, but it was awful to me! And it was happening to me.

Next we/they decided I should get on all 4's and I got off the bed to make it easier to turn over. But as it was I didn't get back on the bed. I stood up and then I really DID get urges to push. It was like I had no control and had to bear down. Thank goodness they gave me the G+A back then and I sucked and pushed the head out. I really felt the famous ring of fire. Very stingy.
I reached down and touhed the head and it felt all jelly like. Then I laid my head on the bed and relaxed a bit. I knew the end was in sight.
Next, with a few pushes the rest of Freddie slithered out. I felt arms and shoulders and all of him. Such a wierd sensation.
As he came out a load more water gushed out. The Mw was really surprised and said she'd never ever seen so much. It spread to the walls and they needed to lift all my bags off the floor. This was why my bump had been soooo hard.

He was white and looked really huge to me.
dh cut the cord and I got on the bed and he was put on my breast.
Such a relief!!!!

Then I had to deleiver the placenta which took nearly 2 hours. I needed a syntocin drip to bring on cx and they were painful enough to need G+A. I was crying, yet again, because I found it so unfair that I was in pain again after already giving birth and I wanted ds with me and I'd had to hand him over to dh.
That finally came out and the mw said it was very healthy looking and huge.

After all that, the mw said she felt bad that I hadn't had the birth I wanted and I appologised for being 'shouty'. I expected her to say something like 'oh don't worry, we see it all the time, you were in pain etc..' but she didn't. Instead she said 'you were a challenge' Thanks!!
She then commented how I had the lowest pain threshold and that she was amazed that I hadn't even been able to tollerate the stethascope(sp) on my tummy during labour. This is true, I'd pushed her off everytime she tried.
But how she thought this was helping me I have no idea. Maybe she was making conversation.

Anyway after they decided my tear didn't need stitching, dh went home to get my notes and I had much needed tea and toast!!

One mw said I got the gold star for having the most normal birth of the night!!!

Phew!
I hope you are not bored to tears!!
I'm glad I've finally written it down.
And Freddie was 100% worth it.

OMG Princessmel! & at the MW, what was she thinking! You did so well, i couldnt off done it. I must admit to laughing alot about your shouting for the G&A to be brought back. Thank god you are both ok xx

HC you sound like you are going through the same as me, but im bottle feeding. My MW told me that BF babies get sick & wind worse than the bottle feed ones. She wouldnt give me anything for Faith, but my aunt used to be a top MW years ago, and she swears by gripe water, so im now using that in the feeds, and its making so much difference. She is still being sick now & again, but nights are now every 2-3 hours for feeding, thank goodness. Could you express for night feeds? It would be so much easier for you, and you could even use gripe water to see if that helped also. Saying that, it can be given by spoon. It sounds so bad for you, i hope you are okay

Congratulations to everyone who`s giving birth since last week.

Good luck to NewbeeMummy hope the induction worked and didn`t make birth too painful.

princessmel thanks for sharing your birth story, sorry to hear you didnt get the painkillers you wanted. How rude of MW to say you were a challenge, she wasnt the one in pain and having to deal with it.
I found this birth much more painful than other two and was crying for epidural too but birth was too quick to get any and MWs kept saying to try with just g&a,which didn`t help at all.

Nathaniel had his operation on mon and it went all as planned. Was a bit agitated after and fed constantly during night and had to rock him a lot.Next day he had problems feeding but was good last night and fed at 9pm,2am and then 6am which he never done before. He needs eyedrops for a month and we got weekly check-ups for 6 weeks to make sure the pressure in eye is ok.I also need to get glasses for him which do look cute as they`re tiny.

We`re having problems with naps too trying to get him to sleep in moses basket so can have time to do things like come on MN.Any tips on how to get them to fall asleep on their own.Had problems with ds1 and dd so would love to know if anyone knows how to do it.
