Us poor sleepless mothers! I really envy anyone who has a baby who is a great sleeper, its really not funny being awake all night. I must take a look at that thread.

HT & HC...My DS was always sleeping with his arms going crazy around him, also loved sleeping on his tummy. He hated the mosses basket because of that. We ended up putting him into the cotbed at a couple of weeks old, held in place, on his back with a couple of towels rolled, and put either side of him. Faith will sleep in the mosses basket, and stays on her back (when she isnt crying, and she crys alot), but like Matthew, she loves to lie on her tummy on my chest. She also loves sleeping in her carseat

Agree about the mood & labour, i was starting to get really moody when things started happening. Went from being tearful to angry....a good sign!

FlameHasAnotherChick · 22/10/2009 15:17

baby blues, engorged breasts and latch issues on one side.

have spent most of the day sobbing

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 22/10/2009 15:34

Oh dear Flame. My boobs also throbbing. You'll feel better soon, its the hormones love!

Here is my birth story. Get yourself a brew, its a bit long. here

lal123 · 22/10/2009 18:57

oh littlepea I really sympathise!!! Whoever said that breast fed babies didn't get wind has never met Maia. She's had a couple of good nights (one where she was only up once for half an hour ), but its usually the same cycle - up to get fed, feeds for 45mins, I'm too tired to wind her properly, she throws up, needs changed, needs fed again, fills her nappy, put her down, she throws up, needs changed etc etc.

Flame - my right boob was rock solid, I expressed about an ounce of it and its been fine since. Try some chocolate - I find a wispa does wonders

heylottie · 22/10/2009 19:26

logging on from hospital bed to say Violet Dixie born 21st oct at 1120am by c section. delighted but exhausted! will add birth story later. 9lbs 1oz and 12days overdue xxx

theboob · 22/10/2009 19:48

congratulations to all who have had their babies
not been on for a while , but tommorow is my first night out for a friends birthday , i'm quite scared to leave her really even though she is nearly 6 weeks old
have managed to pump off 5oz from one side as i fed from the other , I was really worried about leaving enough milk for her , Madison likes to use my boobs as a comfort and is latched on for most of the evening a real pain sometimes when i could be doing other things with the DC , I'm used to no sleep now but i'm in bed by 9 most nights (how will I cope tommorow )chin up to all the tired mummy's not long now until they are smiling at us at 3 oclock in the morning reminding us it's all worth it
good luck to all still waiting........have decided i'm not finished having children yet , not that DH knows yet

twinklegreen · 22/10/2009 19:48

well done hmhb

Congratulations heylottie love the name, it was on my shortlist.

Hope everyone who is not getting much sleep has a better night tonight.

FlameHasAnotherChick · 22/10/2009 20:02

congratulations!

@ more children...

I have dairy milk - tis indeed helping

HappyTangerine · 22/10/2009 21:31

Congratulations heylottie, love the name as well!

HMHB Great birth story, well done you. Fingers crossed you get some sleep tonight

Flame Huge hug. My day 3 baby blues/engorgement coincided with cow "you're starving your baby" midwife. I found chocolate to be a massive help as well(Galaxy . Hand expressing made the biggest difference though, give it a go if not too painful

Littlepea Have you thought of considering cranial osteopathy for the wind? A few days on and we are starting to notice a difference, although I think it will need a second session.

HC and LittlePea Thanks, glad its not just me that has a baby that rolls around! I'll have to move the whole room around if we do the cot option, currently the only place for it will be next to the window which isn't ideal in winter.

DH home from work soon, thank God. Tooth still throbbing from root canal. Joseph wouldn't go down in his basket at all today without crying his little eyes out so he's been on me all day. Putting him down for me to eat/go to the toilet is v stressful, I can't really enjoy a meal with him screaming. Am going to buy a stretchy sling, although God knows when it will get here with all the postal strikes.

I was planning to go to a mother and baby group tomorrow but not so sure now. Am so tired. Those of you that have had your babies-have you resumed driving yet? I'm a bit nervous about it, I think its a combination of sleep deprivation and knowing how responsive I am to Joseph's crying that makes me doubt my concentration. He falls asleep in the car after a v short time thank God.I wonder what it is about the cars that babies find so soothing?

hackneybird · 22/10/2009 21:39

Well done heylottie! Love the name, I wanted it on our list but DH doesn't like it.

Flame I send you virtual hugs and chocolate.

littleblessing and newbee I am so with you on the grumpy front. When I reached 40 weeks last thursday I was vile all day, DH told me off for being 'foul' at my midwife appt. Baby made no appearance though!

Am 41 weeks today. Had a sweep, which was excruciating. Burst into tears afterwards on DH, wailing 'how am I going to cope with labour if that hurt so much?'.

Dr who did sweep says I am showing no sign of spontaneous labour being imminent so I am to be induced on Tues if nothing happens beforehand. Have acupuncture tomorrow morning though.

I am really, really frightened and scared.

FlameHasAnotherChick · 22/10/2009 21:55

would have preferred galaxy!

have managed to express a bit, and dd2 seems to have suddenly found feeding enthusiasm.

sweeps hurt like hell - i wouldn't base ability to cope on that

kowaikiwi · 23/10/2009 08:27

Reading everyones comments I'm just so proud of us all, how we are dealing with everything. Well done to the new mums, I'm so glad to have joined the group but it's not easy! Had a few tears last night, thinking about Sadie crying & worrying I can't help her. I'm just so exhausted i don't have energy for much & BF is hard work!
Big hugs to those still waiting. hackney if you're still here, you asked how I coped being overdue, I guess I stopped answering the phone! People were just p**sing me off. It's more mental than anything, just be strong & know it will be over soon so enjoy the time you have left. I had a sweep at 41 weeks on the sat pm & went into labour early mon morning. Otherwise they were going to induce me on the next sat at 42 weeks. I gave up on all the suggestions to start labour too & accepted the baby would come when it's ready.
Sorry, that really doesn't seem like much help to you! But I have fingers crossed for you.
Sadie is doing great, I'm slowly starting to work things out but found the key is to not put any pressure on myself to do anything. DP & MIL2B have been fantastic. I just wish my family were here to see but NZ is a bit far away .
KK

chocolaterabbit · 23/10/2009 08:39

I have another one to add to the list - Thomas was born on 14th October - 5 days late. We had about as lovely a birth as I could have hoped for (water etc) and we're now slowly getting to grips with feeding and running around after a newborn and a toddler.

Tom has had bad jaundice as well so has to be fed religiously every 2-3 hours especially at night which isn't helping my tiredness levels...

wibblydibs · 23/10/2009 10:16

Hello everyone - congratulations to all who popped over the last week or so, and hugs to those still waiting

Well, DH went back to work on Monday so I've had nearly 5 days of coping with 3 children under school age...my day has to start at about 5.30am in order for things to go anything like smoothly - will it always be this way?! DH leaves at 7am and is sometimes not back until 8pm - I find that bath and bedtime is the most stressful.

Louis is gaining weight rapidly - I've just received a new Close Parent sling but am now wondering if I'll be able to carry him in it as he's now over 11 pounds. HT I ordered it from Mothercare and they're using couriers rather than post so it came in 2 days.

Oh, and I'm also very jealous of anyone who's in their pre-preg jeans - I've hidden mine in the attic as I know it will be some months before I can wear them again!

peachespaige · 23/10/2009 10:19

Morning all.

I havent forgotten you just been without computer again!!

Not caught up fully yet but congrats to

saraheb dizzy and kowaikiwi

Im updating the list as Fred was 9 days early

We are doing well, he is so much like my first son in looks and in character, he just lays with his eyes open looking towards the light, very calm boy. Mind you hes only 6 days old!!

Thanks for reassurance about his hearing.

Im off to read your posts.

heylottie well done beautiful name, my Mumhad a foster sister called Dixie, I just love it.

HappyTangerine · 23/10/2009 13:03

Hackneybird Wrote you a message at 3am then lost the lot!. Huge hug, its so scary not knowing what to expect. I had a sweep on the Wednesday and as entrance to my womb was closed, dr didn't think it would make a difference. It did though-I had a show 2 days later and went into labour 2 days after that. I was booked for induction as well and was terrified-HC helped me calm down a bit and I started looking for positive induction threads on here. Have a look, there are loads.

Wibblydibs ooh, that sling is tempting, DH got Mothercare vouchers from a whipround at work. Didnt order it this morning as I wasn't sure about the post, good to know they are using couriers.

Still got yesterdays headache from hell after the root canal, Migraleve not touching it. Also had 4 nosebleeds since 3am, messy and inconvenient. On the plus side, I've just booked my place on a baby massage course starting 11th November. Roll on the weekend...

HumphreysCorner · 23/10/2009 13:31

Congrats to the new mums.

Have been to the Drs this morning as I feel so ill. Last night I was shivering/sweating all night and every part of me ached like the flu. Have had my migraine for nearly a week now but the Dr said I can only take my migraine tablets if I don't BF for the next 24 hours. Loving BF so can't not do that. Didn't tell the Dr I have already taken some of the tablets, no wonder Matthew is so sick all the time. Couldn't sleep at all last night and would you believe that Matthew didn't want any milk until 5am so could have got lots of sleep. Bet he wakes tonight. Dr couldn't find anything wrong and said the migraine is down to lack of sleep. Just waiting for the HV, hope I manage not to burst into tears.

Good luck to those still waiting.

HC
x

HappyTangerine · 23/10/2009 16:35

HC You poor thing. Hope you get lots of pampering on the weekend. Can you send some out to get you an iron supplement? When I had the shivers/sweats in hospital, they ran blood tests and came back with low iron levels. I sympathise with the migraine, I'm on day 2 and feel awful. The realities of motherhood have hit me with a bang-normally I'd go lie down in a dark room to get rid of it but I can't. Can someone have the dc's for a bit for you to get some rest?

Actually, you've got me wondering now-Joseph has been a screaming nightmare this afternoon, I wonder if the Migraleve has anything to do with it? I was walking round the park in tears earlier, I feel v alone, tired and headachey toay. Counting down the hours until dh finishes work.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 23/10/2009 21:00

Hope everyone is doing well. DD having a kip so I can get on here. She was a bit better last night so feeling relatively normal although was up from 3-4.30am feeding. I got my boobs mixed up so ended up with one massively engorged one and was preying for DD to drink it and stop falling asleep on the job.

wibblydibs - wow you work hard. I have a DS aged 3 plus newborn DD and when DS is about it gets alot harder esp at bedtime. I can't imagine what it must be like for you with 3 of the little darlings. It will get easier....when they leave home or at least go to school.
I am waiting for the stitches to ease a bit before I even go near a pair of jeans. Nice trakky b's for me .

HC - sorry to hear you are so poorly. Migranes are just awful. In the past mine have been due to hormone changes and I bet your hormones are all over the place. A good sleep would help too but tricky to get at the moment. Does paracetamol touch it? Homeopathy might help and be less trouble for BF?
I've been doing loads of sweating at night too (lovely) which is to do with the hormones changing post pregnancy (similar symptom to menopause), I remember it being bad last time too.

EFA's are supposed to be good for helping to balance hormones, as is Rose Otto oil for massage (can you tell I've got a book on this?).

CalypsoFramboise · 23/10/2009 21:30

littlepea Annalise is sick during AND after every feed, so sick, I can't believe she's actually consuming anything! but there are wet nappies (infrequent poos though) and she's gaining weight, so you might find that there isn't anything wrong, just a pukey baby?

HappyTangerine I have an Amby hammock and Annalise sleeps very well in it. Well aside from the outrageous noises she makes! Its lovely to have it beside the bed- its so easy to rock and she looks very cosy in it. I can't say if its worth the money, especially as I expect she'll be out of it by 7/8 months, since once she can sit up, it might be a bit precarious. Once her wretched slumber eases off (and it will - right?!) I hope we can all sleep well
Haha about the zzzzzzz, very apt!

flame aww some of us have had baby blues, so awful on top of engoregment and sleep deprivation. I know you've struggled terribly with antenatal depression too, but I hope the blues vanish by 2 weeks like they did for me. Best of luck with the latching X

HMHB great birth story - sounds intense, but I'm happy for you that you got your VBAC

heylottie welcome Violet Dixie, congratulations , and congratulations to chocolaterabbit as well!

hackneybird Aww I'm sorry that you are feeling afraid, induction need not be the trial you imagine, indeed being so tense could even be counter-productive. I hope you can relax and feel more positive about your birth {hugs}

HC and HT Lots and lots of sympathy for your lack of wellbeing, both of you sound like you're in a really hard spot. I hope things improve really soon, having a mirgraine when this sleep deprived must be hellish

peaches many thanks for the link!

HappyTangerine · 24/10/2009 09:35

Congratulations choclaterabbit -sorry, meant to say that yesterday! Sounds like a lovely birth. Hope Tom's jaundice clears up soon and you can get some sleep

We bought a FisherPrice rainforest cradle swing from ebay last night, seduced by reviewers who said they were able to eat a meal two handed while baby happily swings! Hope to pick up tomorrow.

Joseph was v crotchety in the evening as well last night, I was so glad when DH came home. He took him out straight after I fed him at 11 then brought him in to me at 3am. Sounds like thye'd had a bit of a nightmare-normally Joseph will settle in the car seat within minutes but it was v much on-off last night. DH commented that he realised now why I'd rung him in tears earlier. Migraine easing today although throbbing tooth still there.

Calypso Thanks. Thats interesting re the Amby. Just need to persuade DH now. We are happilly co-sleeping atm. Have noticed a huge improvement in the night sleeeping since cranial osteopathy.

HC and Flame Hope you are feeling a bit better today (hands out virtual Galaxy)

Hackneybird How are you doing? Thinking of you

Sending positive labour/hurry up baby vibes to those that need them. Hope we all have a good day.xxx

NewbeeMummy · 24/10/2009 11:00

congratulations to heylottie and chocolaterabbit.

Lot's of baby arrival thoughts for Hackney, LittleBlessing and all the others who are still waiting. Really hoping she puts in an appearance this weekend, have to have a sweep next week, but both the local midwives are on Holiday, so not sure how they expect me to get it done. Another trip to the hospital I guess...

hackneybird · 24/10/2009 13:48

Thanks all for your kind words. Nothing doing here still, so yesterday I went to acupuncture, had 'DH assisted home induction' this morning , followed by a session of reflexology. Passed the plug this morning too so at least I know things are moving in the right direction.

I am praying that labour starts before I am induced, but am also trying to relax - I don't want to wind myself up into the fear-tension-pain cycle and make it worse for myself.

HC I really hope your migraines pass soon, it must be very though for you right now.

Good luck with the rainforest swing HT! I'll be interested to see how you get on with it. I want an Amby too and might get one from ebay if we need it.
