Calypso, I can give you the symptoms that Faith had, but i bottle feed so no symptoms on me. She has a white coating & white spots in her mouth & tongue, alot of pain when she feeds, so she does alot of cluster feeding (some while she is screaming), alot of wind due to crying so much. Not much sleep either, as the pain is so bad. Get it checked out, the pain for both of you must be bad! She is starting to get better but nights are a nightmare. I did try the MW but she never thought it was thrush, the doctor was the one who found it....good luck!

Im eating alot of choc etc...but im not BF! The weight is piling on, so much for my weight loss lol....

HumphreysCorner · 16/11/2009 12:12

Hi all

How's everyone? All well here apart from a touch of pain on the areola (sp) when BF. Do you think M just sucks hard or latch is wrong? Nipple is fine.

Will catch up later, wanted to bake some bun cakes (chocolate) while M is asleep (rare occasion).

Big wave!

morning/afternoon all

been out this morning (dentist) for me and DS and all fine with both of us, then to the dry cleaners

loads of housework to do - DD having a sleep after a bath - she is still looking a bit spotty over her neck and chest ... think they are milk spots but HV can check on Thursday

HC - am impressed with your attempts at baking - with your levels of sleep deprivation i would be on the couch with a cuppa

do you have pain when you feed? I get a bit sore (usually after DD's marathon feeds) but no pain during feeding itself - try some lansinoh in case your nipple is a bit dry?

princessmel · 16/11/2009 12:45

Morning all

HV has been this morning and weighed Freddie. He has put on 13oz since last monday!!!! He is 10lb 40z at 3 weeks

I am going to the bf cafe on wednesday as I am worried about lumpy parts in my breasts. The right breasts lumpy area seems harder. Its in the centre of my breast and quite deep. It feels hard and sort of square! rather than a round lump ifkwim. I was crying about it last night at 2am! I was worrying that it's not milk/milk ducts. I have been massaging it, combing it and it hasn't really changed. I will try holding the shower head on it later as I've read that might help.
It doesn't hurt and there is no redness. If the bf cafe don't think it's to do with milk then I'll go to my gp.

Getting through lots of breast pads here. I need to find some huge ones, need them to be the size of a saucer!!

HumphreysCorner · 16/11/2009 13:01

ruby-apart from washing and ironing the housework gets left. Just yesterday DH got a duster to dust the tops of the door frames whilst shaking his head. Well, I never dust up there anyway. Can make bun cakes so quickly, they are done and covered in melted chocolate so now I'm sitting down with a cuppa. My nipples are fine, it is like a prickly/sore pain when I am feeding on the surrounding area. I have to take him off sometimes as it hurts. Does look a bit red in places so perhaps it is a kind of blister. Will try the Lanishoh on that area.

princessmel-hope you get sorted. I use the same breat pads 2 days running. Was amazed that I hadn't leaked milk at all but on Saturday night/Sunday morning I was feeding him and my right boob wet my nightie and M's Sleepsuit. Not happened since though.

HumphreysCorner · 16/11/2009 13:07

Oh, and Matthew is covered in milk spots too.

kowaikiwi · 16/11/2009 13:38

Hi all, sounds like most of us are getting out and about a bit more. Glad you're sounding so positive happytangerine.
Well we went out for a shopping trip on Saturday, I'm desperate for some new clothes but didn't want to spend too much as I intend to be smaller in the coming months. Wedding in July and I want to lose 20kg (not sure what that is in stone - maybe 3?). I put on so much during pregnancy, probably mainly because I stopped exercising, I used to play squash 5 times a week so to go from that to nothing has had an effect. Can't wait to get out for walks and runs, but just not sure how that's going to happen with a little one. Would prefer to leave her behind with someone but that's hard to organise everyday -plus the weather is rubbish!!
Anyway, the shopping trip was a bl**dy nightmare as it was torrential rain from when we left the shelter of the carpark. Stupid mummy didn't have a jacket herself and didn't consider that the carseat hood is NOT waterproof. So a wet but very warm baby (so I'm learning what clothes make her too hot) had a meltdown in House of Fraser. I felt so terrible that I'd made her so unhappy. Almost gave up and came home, but had a fantastic friend with me who pushed her around whilst I tried things on. Thank god for good friends. In the end it was relatively successful and I have some new clothes.
Sadie seems a bit cranky today, we had a bad night so I'm another 4am kitchen-dancer. She cried the second I put her down and I need to keep the peace so DP can sleep as he works 6 days with early starts. Today she still seems grizzly and has only just drifted off. She's been sick a couple of times which is unusual for her so I hope she's ok. We are going to the dropin clinic tomorrow to get weighed so I'll ask what they think.
I need to get some lunch whilst I have the chance and maybe a short nap whilst she's snoring away.
Have a good week everyone.
KK

devilsadvocaat · 16/11/2009 14:55

ruby, charlie has those spots on his neck and chest. think it's just where skin is so sensitive.

tired today. was up sick last night haven't been this morn tho so hopefully just virus which has passed.

CalypsoFramboise · 16/11/2009 16:04

DA no luck about getting a BFC to actually come to see me, but lots of chats on phone to both La Leche League and NCT (who apparently don't have good BFC coverage in central London?!) and both said the same thing, and I think I can already tell a difference- nipples not burning for an hour after and Annalise not choking / vomiting quite so much!
It doesn't seem to be thrush though (thanks littlepea) as nothing seems to match Annalise's pattern of behaviour, but this sounds all completely true:
Too fast let-down issues including the clicking noise. Hope you can sort it out too...

Terrible night's sleep last night - Annalise was on for 20mins off for 20mins non-stop from 1am to 7am, gah. Then thrashed about loads in-between. Really thought we had a major breakthrough on the tortured thrashing grunting sleep side of things - 2 nights on the trot with calm sleep, seems its not over yet!

HC mmmm chocolate buns

theboob · 16/11/2009 17:19

hello,
having all the same problems here with breast feeding, grunting , clicking etc, Madison get's very angry with the boobie at times
she is full of a cold and nasty cough at the moment bless her, hate seeing small babies with a cold so got some saline drop's to help her feed better,
princess mel i go through more than 50 breast pads a week and find the best are tommie tippee closee to nature breast pad's, they are very large and keep me dry , I am soaked with any other,s and have to change every feed or sometimes more, after complaining some more I finally got an appointment for check and injections on thursday, just hope the cold has shifted then
HC, lack of sleep is getting to me too , she wakes every 2-3 hours and has started to not settle as much , i'm just hoping it's a growth spurt again

rubyslippers · 16/11/2009 17:25

have you tried washable breast pads?

i am finding them much better than the disposable ones - the mothercare ones seem to get scrunched up in my bra and the sticky bits end up all over me

hmmm - anyone found anything good to get rid of milk spots - have tried kamisollan so far and was wondering about sudocrem

fidelma · 16/11/2009 19:59

Baby in bed, the others watching TV, Dh on his way home but he has a squash match later.

Thanks for the info on fast let downs.I have a very powerfull flow of milk on one side and found the site very interesting.(was that from Calpso?)

Connor is much more settled these days, which gives me a break.I can't believe that he will be 7 weeks on Wed almost 2 months, I am sad that the time is passing so fast.

Having said that he has just woken up, it will be wind.Off to lift him.

Hope that you all have a good night. x

HumphreysCorner · 16/11/2009 20:34

I was thinking of trying Sudocrem on the milk spots.

devils-hope you are better now.

DH has noticed my red sore spots on my areola, will mention it at my 8 week check if Lanisoh doesn't shift it.

Calypso-poor you, that was a rough night. Hope tonight is better.

Does the fact that I don't leak milk explain why my expressing is not very successful?

Have a good evening ladies.

HumphreysCorner · 16/11/2009 21:07

Am thinking it might be thrush so will go to the Drs tomorrow.

HappyTangerine · 17/11/2009 09:10

Calypso-Hope you had better night, thanks for the info on let down

HC-really hope its not thrush

Wokeup Sunday with an engorged right breast and the headache from hell. By the evening I could barely stand, was freezing cold despite wearing lots of layers, a duvet and and 2 hot water bottles. Sweat was pouring off me but I couldn't warm up. Joseph had fed badly all day but thankfully was a dream that night, only waking twice.

Went to doctor yesterday and she diagnosed infected mastitis.Temp very high and v dehydrated so doctor ordered me not to be left alone(??!)which I promptly ignored. DH went to work but on hearing Joseph screaming while I was trying to feed, came home. The problem is that I have to express off the first bit of each feed so Joe gets the minimal amount of antibiotic-he is not a baby that likes waiting! He then gets himself so worked up that he won't latch on. Got some nipple shields last night which helped a little with the pain and MIL is coming round today for a few hours. Headache is lifting and at least I can pick Joseph up today,In couldn't at all yesterday. Now if I could just get rid of this angry red lump...

NewbeeMummy · 17/11/2009 12:22

Hi all,

Not had time yet to read through all the posts, but I thought I would let you know that Baby Samantha Petra was born on the 5th November.

She's having a light snooze so I thought I would jump on and share my happy news.

Will post my labour story when I get a chance, but so far all is going well on both the breast feeding and reusable nappy fronts. Could do with a bit more sleep, but after the issues of her first week I'm more than happy to be a bit tired.

x

rubyslippers · 17/11/2009 12:45

Congratulations newbee - pretty name

HT - that sounds awful. Poor you .... Just what you don't need

HC - if it is thrush at least you can get it treated

I am going to be expressing later ... Ruby was up at 12, 1, 4, 5 ish and then up for the day at 7 am. This was after a marathon cluster feeding session from 6 - 10.

All starting to get me down - she is 6 weeks and was hoping to get at least one stretch of 4 - 5 hours sleep in one go at this point

devilsadvocaat · 17/11/2009 15:47

gosh that fast let down thing really sound like us

am feeding with him sitting right up and he seems much happier

devilsadvocaat · 17/11/2009 16:05

also, washable breast pads are sooooooo much better.

didn't even bother with disp. bps this time.

JellytotZ · 17/11/2009 16:12

Hi All,

Just jumped on here, frantically trying to catch up with how your all doing!

HC - I don't seem to leak either....should i be worried? Are you? What does this mean for us!?! I dont even bother wearing breast pads......I am expressing too, but only 1fl oz on each side after every feed....

Emma is feeding every 2-3 hours; she is making the same grunting noises as mentionned too ....not sure why!! Also just started a bit of 'clicking' noises during feeds so im watching what the rest of you have to say about this as its all very new to me and i feel totally clueless!

Last Thurs/Fri was AWFUL as i had sickness and diahorrea My DP went into work (we have just found out his job is at high risk of redundancy so he had to go in) so i was left housebound with Emma.....at one point, she was feeding one side whilst I was expressing the other all the while sat on the toilet and with a sick bowl at my feet!! Close to tears would be an understatement, but i did think of all the other mummies out there who are battling through tough times and severe lack of sleep and somehow the hours passed and now im feeling much more human hurrah!!!!

Right. Time to prepare dinner before Emma wakes and DP gets in.

Jellytots x

Oh, anyone else going to any postnatal groups? I chickened out of mine last week so plucking up the courage to go tomorrow. I really want to meet some mummy friends but its all abit daunting......or is that just me being silly!

JellytotZ · 17/11/2009 16:17

Oh, totally forgot to mention the reason I came on here.....Emma has not poohed for 2 days......done a bit of 'googling' and there are mixed views.....anybody got any experience of this happening with their babies? If she has not been by morning i think i will ring HV or doctor. Might try giving a bit of cooled boiled water to her??x

HappyTangerine · 17/11/2009 16:22

Congratulations newbee!

devils hope you're feeling better

Joseph screamed for most of the time MIL was here but she was great. She's suggested we tape the screaming and play it back to Joe when he's 18 and bringing a girl home

Am going to try all sorts of mad feeding positions tonight to try and clear the mastitis. Various MN threads suggest a)on all fours and b)lying flat on my back with baby lying upside down. Should be fun-I shall report back...

HumphreysCorner · 17/11/2009 17:10

Congratulations Newbee-lovely name. Sounds like you had a difficult first week.

JellytotZ-poor you, I had D&V when BF DD2-not nice. Would have stopped expressing though. Glad you feel human again. Ref: parent and toddler groups, my HV used to nag me all the time after DD1 was born but I never went to one. Just met my friends and their children. Try and go though and see how you get on, I was always too scared to go. I BF DD2 and never leaked and it was successful. Matthew is gaining lots so must be getting enough. Will start expressing after I finish my AB's ready for my night out in Dec but like you it will only be 1oz at a time.

ruby-this night waking/feeding is so hard isn't it? Should we be expecting them to go more than 2 hours at 7 weeks? Can't see Matthew going longer until he is weaned.

Went to the Drs and she said it is mastitis so have some AB's to take.

We need some titles for a PN thread.

'October 2009 babies-sleep, what's that then?'

Please can you list some titles and we can vote.

October 2009 babies - Waving arms and gummy smiles make the sleepless nights worthwhile

October 2009 babies-Look how fast I'm growing Mummy!

God I'm crap at this. Can't even blame my mastitis fever This is why I never bother with slogan competitions!

fidelma · 17/11/2009 18:35

HT I love the waving arms one lets use that.

HCHugs to you. I also feed ever 2 hours during the night I think thats pretty normal.
