Haven;t been on for a while as have been (finally) enjoying my first week of maternity leave - came just in time as i was really tired and starting to swell up as my last week was really quite stressful -anyway thats all over now. Due tomorrow and no sign of LO making an appearance - am booked in for a sweep next Wednesday and then another the following Thursday if nothing has happened by then. Guess it will be a section next Friday/Sat if the sweeps are unsuccessfull which I am not looking forward to as i have a bad needle phobia but my orthopedic consultant doesnt want me induced. Still, trying to be positive - theres plenty of time between now and then for LO to make an appearance - so far the raspberry tea, curries and walking arent making a difference and I have definately gone off pineapple

many congrats to all those who have their LO's - i am so jealous and am sure it was all worth it (and sorry to hear about the bad times some of you had)

HumphreysCorner · 24/10/2009 19:59

Thanks for well wishes ladies. Have been in bed all day and PIL have taken the girls for a sleepover. Matthew has fed all day though so still couldn't have a sleep. Seem to have some mystery virus.

HT-how is your head? Can't remember what is in Migraleve but suspect you can't take it. The MW recommended Floridix which is a herbal iron based tonic suitable for BF mothers so when I get to Holland and Barrett I will get some.

After DD1 I felt quite poorly but after DD2 I was so well so did expect to be well this time. Although, I have taken Antibiotics which maybe lowered my immune system. Am glad it is half term next week as I'm sure the school mums must think I'm a big moaner.

Big wave!

HappyTangerine · 25/10/2009 11:53

HC Glad you are feeling better. I checked out Migraleve-apparently the paracetemol bit is ok but it contains codeine which is dubious in breastfeeding. I felt awful when I realised but have been assured no harm done with 2 tablets, just stick to paracetemol.

As it is,I've worked out the problem-its not the tooth, its the injection site. It was one of the upper teeth towards the front and the bit of the gum she injected is still numb. The area surrounding it is agony though. I have to go back on Thursday to have a root canal completed on the bottom-deep joy. Tempted not to go.

Long old night last night, I took Joseph up to bed with me rather than DH take him out last night. Big mistake-when he woke me up for his feed I was half asleep-I seem to really need those few hours of deep sleep on my own at the moment. Am v sweaty as well. Joseph used the extra hour to embark on a feeding frenzy so someone was happy.

We've discovered a new weapon in the arsensl of keeping Joseph amused-the vacuum cleaner. If its on, he'll even settle in the moses basket without screaming. Off out now to pick up cradle swing and then to Aintree to get the sling from Mothercare-am hoping both might make life a bit easier for me and velcro baby here!

Have a good day everyone x

rubyslippers · 25/10/2009 12:08

thank you for this new thread and new list twinkle

Sorry not been around - have no internet access as am away from home at the moment

Ruby is thriving - feeding day and night every 2 hours so i am tired.

DS is finding it a biiiig adjustment and playing up

will try to catch up later

hope everyone is doing as ok as possible

xx

wibblydibs · 25/10/2009 12:51

Just popped on to see how everyone's doing. Sorry some of us are having a hard time, it will pass. I'm finding it difficult but nothing compares to how I felt after DD1 was born - very scarey, lonely time so big hugs to all the first time mums.

Hackneybird I was induced this time and didn't notice any difference in the labour from my last two - hope it goes well

Thank goodness it's half term! Not only do I not have to get DD1 to pre school, but DH is a teacher so I've got him at home to help - good timing as Louis is really starting to mess about at night, think I got about 2 hours sleep last night. DD2 had evening colic, which was grim, but this is more like 2am colic - is that possible?

Also, would like to spread the word about the Close Parent sling that I've started using - it's an absolute life saver.

fidelma · 25/10/2009 13:47

Great new thread thanks.

We are also doing all the usual baby stuff.Connor wants to feed every 2 hours but that makes him very windy so I am trying to get him to go for 3 hours before feeding. It is helping. I am using a dummy sometimes which I used for all the other children although I stopped using them at 3 months no problemo

I am up alot in the night but I think I am a little ammune to it as I seem to be copping not toooooo badly (10 years practice you knowConnor will be 4 weeks on Wed and I can't help thinking that 11 more of that (months)he will be a little walking talking person and sleeping much better.

boob very shocked at more children.Although I have felt like this after everyone I do feel like I finnaly have closure this time.DH would not have any more I have already pushed my luck

HC and HTI hope that you you are both feeling better.Thinking of you both and sending hugs and chocolate XXXX

We took all the DC swimming early this morning Connor slept at the side of the pool.I actually swam for 15 mins.Came home home for a big brunch. Yum Yum Connor now sleeping after a big feed.I warm his sheepskin before he sleeps on it in his mosses basket this seems to help.Everyone eles is just chillin

I have managed to catch up with all your news

Dont stress out about induction.DS1 was induced and everything was just fine.In fact it was great as I laboured through the day and had good energy.DS was born at 10 pm so I also had time to recover before comming home.It was a normal birth.Good luck to everyone who is still waiting it really wont be long now.

HumphreysCorner · 25/10/2009 14:50

HT-have been taking codeine as it was OK in pregnancy so thought it would be OK. Have also taken Ibuprofen, no wonder Matthew is so sick which makes him cry and feed lots. Shame you have a repeat visit to the dentist.

Glad I'm not the only one having night sweats.

ruby-glad Ruby is thriving but sympathise with the sleep (or lack of) issue. Am sure DS will adjust soon, 'tis a big event for him.

Thinking of you all that are still expecting and good luck!

Big wave, better go as the guzzler wants milk again, no wonder he is 9lb 6oz now.

hackneybird · 25/10/2009 16:47

wibbly and fidelma, thank you for your positive words about induction. Now that I have had a bit of time to think about it I am getting my head round the idea, so hopefully feel a touch more mentally prepared than I did.

fidelma I have squirreled away your tip about warming a sheepskin before putting it in a moses basket, what a good idea.

mehim I cannot believe you have only just started mat leave and are so close - hope your baby comes soon too. princessmel has't been on for a while, hope she's having/had her baby!

Hope everyone else is coping.

peachespaige · 25/10/2009 19:08

Just a quickie to say good luck to those still waiting.

hc and ht I hope you both feel better soon.

Freddie is feeding 2 hourly at night and pretty much the same during the day, but like you fidelma Im not too tired....yet.

Freddie sleeps a lot, only really awake to feed but he has these lovely moments where he just stares at the light whilst lying in his cot, he looks so peaceful. He is very much like ds1 who was a very relaxed baby but turned into a mass of energy and still is!

Im also having mad night sweats and trapped wind . Luckily dp is in the spare room so Fred and I have more room in the bed. He sleeps next to me but on his crib mattress. Dp has been looking after the other 2 boys and doing the school run, washing, cooking etc, maybe thats why I feel ok. In fact he bought a tumble dryer as he couldnt get the washing dry, typical, Ive been hanging it over heaters for the last 5 years!!!!

Well enjoy whats left of Sunday.

HappyTangerine · 25/10/2009 20:00

Quick question- you can tell I'm new at this motherhood lark can't you?
When you take your baby out in the pram what do they wear and how many blankets?

Also, outside, is their skin (and lips)still supposed to be nice and pink or paler?

Sorry, feel like an idiot for asking but am worried Joseph is going to get too cold. We had to walk a little way from car to Mothercare today and by the time we got there he looked a little grey around the gills-scared me silly. I picked him up for a cuddle inside and his colour came back but still got a fright. He of course slept right through then screamed blue murder when we got home.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 25/10/2009 20:24

HT - Its one of those things you have to work out. DD feels the cold more than DS who is never bothered.

I took DD out in the pram today for about 20 mins, wearing a babygro, a knitted cardi and matching hat and a cellular blanket with a woolen blanket on top then the pram cover on top. She was lovely and toasty and didn't even wake up.

The Midwives told me that babies have poor circulation so their hands are often blueish and cold. I guess when they go outside and their faces are exposed to cold they will go paler.

DS was a summer baby so its totally different with DD. I think the test is to feel the back of their necks and make sure they are warm there.

fidelma · 25/10/2009 20:52

HT someone once said to me that they need one more layer on than you, I guess blankets for the winter.feel his body to make sure he is warm.

HT All our children go pale and waxy looking when they are asleep.It scared me **less with DD1.We thought she was dying you sound like a lovely mum keep asking us all your questions it's great to spout advice {hugs}

Re sleeping DH sleeps in our bed and I sleep in the babies room.DH is much more useful to me during the day if he's had a good nights sleep. He always lets me get a nap during the day which tides me over.Connor does a mixture of sleeping in his mosses basket and sharing the bed with me.

Loads of laughs at the tumble dryer

HumphreysCorner · 25/10/2009 21:02

DH gave in and bought a tumble dryer after DD2 was born as he got fed up of washing hanging around the house. It is a godsend being as though Matthew is so sicky.

HT-at the moment Matthew wears just a cardigan and I put a pram blanket over him. Any colder and he wears a snowsuit. Did put him in his snowsuit last week and when I took it off he was soaking wet as he was too hot.

Sugarkane · 26/10/2009 00:16

CalypsoFramboise DD had really bad cradle cap and was told sooooooooo many times to use olive oil but in all honesty once it has got bad no amount of oil works, for us we found washing everyday with Dentinox cradle cap shampoo and daily treatments of Boots own brand cradle cap cream really helped clear it. Unfortunatly DD still gets it now but we just follow the rountie and it soon clears up.

I second the thought that baby needs one extra layer and feel the back of the neck to get the correct temp, oh and remember that a folded blanket equals two layers, I forgot this with DD and she got a nasty heat rash. .

I noticed princessmel had given birth on her childbirth thread congrats. A Further congrats to anyone who has had baby since I was last on, havent had time to fully catch up yet, has been a hellish week, my stepdad has moved put of my mums house this week so I have had many long phone calls with my mum this week.

I feel for everyone with migraines have seen people in alot of pain with them, also could do with a little advice on them, ive never had a migraine before so not really sure if im getting one, but well ever since ive given birth I have been getting a pain behind my eye and accross my forehead and occassionally get flashes in my eyes, this is also made worse by bending down. I did speak to MW but she couldnt really help and I cant get a dr appointment for a week. Any advice??

Please excuse my one handed typos and bad spelling, Adien seems to be having a growth spurt and hasnt stopped feeding for 2 days (or so it seems).

Good luck to everyone awaiting their little bundles not many left now.

Littleblessing · 26/10/2009 07:35

Good Morning All
Well I am still here and still pregnant. 41 weeks today! Had a sweep yesterday which the midwife said was very succeddful yet not really had any signs of labour yet. Was very achey yesterday but I think that was just from the procedure. She said she couild get 2 fingers in there and gave it a good sweep? Apparantly I was 2cm and 50% effaced. I feel like this baby is never going to come. DS1 was 5 days late so I stupidly assumed this LO would be here by now! I am booked in for another sweep on Wednesday. Anyone had experiences of this? I had DS in a birth centre and was a lovely experience, was going for the same again this time but if LO doesn't appear soon I'm worried I'll end up in local hospital being induced. My MIL died there in February (very suddenly) so was hoping to avoid going back there.
Congrats to PrincessMel on your arrival of Freddie - sounds like you had a rough time. x
Congrats to all others who have popped and thoughts go to those who are struggling with the sleepless nights etc - I know I have all of that to come. xx

fidelma · 26/10/2009 08:33

Littlemissbliss I had lots of sweeps with DS1 sadly I was induced but that was very successful.

craddlecap all my children had it and I slowly picked it off and it never returned.Probably not what you are ment to do but it worked

princessmel · 26/10/2009 09:59

Hello everyone!!!!!

I have had my baby!!!!!

ds2, Freddie, was born on saturday morning at 4.23am, weighing 8lb 10oz. 2 hour labour. No stitches, or drugs (NOT through choice) pure hell I'll post the birth details when I have time. At the moment I am staying in bed lots and making the most of being comfy and not pregnant!!!!
(some details on my thread in childbirth)

Freddie is gorgeous and totally perfect. I am so glad he is here

I hope all of you are ok, hang in there you mummys still waiting xxx

princessmel · 26/10/2009 09:59

A couple of pics on profile xxxxx

peachespaige · 26/10/2009 10:11

Good morning.

congrats princessmel, love the name too . Your birth story was so similar to mine, what with the Placenta size and time it took to come away. Did they keep tugging on it?

HT Freddie goes out in a vest, sleepsuit, thick cardie or snowsuit and has a zip up pouch thing inside the pram. Although I think its a bit warm for the snowsuit.

Is it wrong that Im eating my porridge out of the sauce pan?

Good luck to those being induced.

HappyTangerine · 26/10/2009 14:28

Congratulations princessmel I'll pop over and read your birth story in a mo. Talk about a quick labour!

Littleblessing - sweep sounds promising, lets hope it kickstarts things quickly for you.

Hackneybird pmsl at "DP assisted home induction" - hopefully it has worked, if not good luck for tomorrow.

Fidelma you have so put my mind at ease re Joseph's paleness when sleeping, thanks a million. We thought he had stopped breathing yesterday

Thanks everyone for you answers re layers, seems I'm dressing him warmly enough, he just gets that pale/grey tinge. I'll stop stressing about going out now. We picked up the cradle swing yesterday - Joseph will go in it for a little bit if he's calm. DH tried him in it last night when I was at mass and he screamed blue murder so I think little and often is the key to start.

We went to the cranial osteopath at 9am and this time he screamed and cried a lot more. Since we've been back, he's been v sleepy, only waking up for feeds/burps/nappy change then falling asleep on the boob. He's fast asleep on my lap at the moment, i so wish he didn't hate his moses basket so much!

kowaikiwi · 26/10/2009 20:33

Feel like I've been away from here for ages, but it's only been a few days. But a few days with a newborn covers a whole lot of ground!
I still love reading everyone's experiences. I really hope hackneybird is doing OK and we will hear some good news soon. PSML at her 'DP assisted home induction too' - we tried it, and it really is as clinical as it sounds
OK I've had a few days to get used to Sadie and the whole BF experience. I think we're doing ok but sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed with the fact I have to do this so many times a day...at least I'm over the rock hardness which was very difficult. Just happened to coincide with a day when she decided to sleep through everything - I tried everything to wake her but she was out cold! If someone else is struggling with rock hard boobs I've been told fresh mint in your bra can help draw it out.

A couple of questions my wise mumsnet friends might be able to help with. I'd like to start expressing by pump if I can, but how long do I do it for? i.e how much should I express and how often can I do it? This could be a stupid question because it probably depends on Sadie and I, but I've no idea. Is there a recommended amount Sadie should be getting each time she feeds so I know how much to put in a bottle?
So many unknowns!
The midwife says we are doing ok though so will keep at it. It's just not easy. Got myself some Lansinoh today too, hoping that will help.

Big hugs to everyone and congratulations to those who have had babies, I'm so happy for you.

KK

fidelma · 26/10/2009 21:21

Connor has slept for most of the day so I am slightly scared about what tonight will bring.

Ds1 is struggeling with the new baby thing I am so sad for him.He has got very loud and every second word is mummy it breaks my heart.DD1 is like a little mother and I can really trust her with Connor.Dd2 is also a help but a bit of a middle child, oh so many little people to think about. And I must not forget dh !!!!

I don't know why I am up I really must get some shut eye.Tomorrow is a mad day.Dd1 and Dd2 at school for 8.15am friend comming for stitch and bitch dd1 at nursery for 12 noon pick him up plus friends 2 children at 3pm, pick up dd1 and dd2 take dd1 and friend to halloween party take dd1 and her friend to ballet and swim with ds1 return home to pick up dd2 from squash and drop dd1 off there,dh is there come home feed children and do far toooooo much homework and get everyone in bed with lots of love paitence stories and kisses.Oh did I mention feed the baby !!!!!!!

My dats really are not that crazy but we just have a few extra things on tomorrow..Usually we just come home after school and do tea, homework and just hang not but not tomorrow.Off to bed.

HumphreysCorner · 27/10/2009 09:31

Blimey fudelma-that seems far too much to do with a new baby. Good luck with it all.

kowaikiwi-I intend to keep BF but do need to express some milk for when we go and see the Rocky Horror Picture Show in December. Mum and dad are babysitting so need to leave a bottle. With DD2 I struggled to even express 1 oz so hoping this time might be better. Hopefully a more successful expresser can advise you. Am worried that Matthew won't take to the teat of the bottle while I am out. Which teat will you use?

Congrats again to princessmel

Waiting for DD2's bed to be delivered so we can have her cotbed made back into a cot. One day Matthew might have a bedroom and somewhere to put his things.

Big wave!

HC
x

theboob · 27/10/2009 12:05

hello all, I managed to go out on friday night and express and leave 15 oz, I use tommie tippie closer to nature bottles which are brilliant the teats are shaped like a nipple and she still pushed it to the roof of her mouth lik sh would on me, I find it best to us the pump when you are feeding from one side to get the best results, sometimes I get 5oz others only 2oz

HumphreysCorner · 27/10/2009 12:26

theboob-did you try her with the bottle before your night out and if so how many times and how soon before.

Matthew doesn't seem well now, he is sicking after every feed and screaming if he isn't attached to my boob. Seems quite warm and with me having been poorly and DD1 now got it I thought it best to have him checked by a Dr so going at 4-20. Calpol is for 3 months and older unless advised by a Dr. Hoping that DD2's bed will arrive by then or my PIL have to come round and wait for it. My boobs will be huge due to the amount he is drinking/sicking.
