Excellent Birthplan pav..mine was similar but shorter..I don't remember ever getting it out..They just didn't care!!

Erika poor you, still pains??? as the MW if its normal...

laugs doll not really going down well..although she was invited to the tea party we had this afternoon for her stuffed toys but she wasn't allowed to sit with everyone else..

Laugs · 13/10/2009 17:33

sleepless that made me smile. At our tea parties the least popular guest always gets the rubber potato. It's often me.

By the way, are people with older children expecting the DCs to share toys? (I know toys are a long way off) I had just assumed they would, but on another thread I've read most people seemed to think that was really unfair to the older child. I had been planning for them to have their own teddies/ special toys, but share everything else. I can't bear the thought of twice as much plastic tat. We have nowhere to put it all already.

ursigurke · 13/10/2009 17:54

wow, lots of things going on here, I should be one of the first ones to pop but it seems there are others way ahead of me. I hope I can skim through those posts once a day until we get connected at home.
Saw GP today, baby's position has really changed but luckily just from right to left so everything is perfect. And she is quite low already (don't know how low though) so it could happen any time now... genetically not in the next three weeks though.

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/10/2009 18:23

Laugs I don't know about anyone else but although the DSs have their own toys they share them quite happily. They have their special teddies for bed, etc., but even those they sometimes let the other sleep with, which is sooo cute. I sometimes buy them something to share, eg a DVD or a book. And when they get birthday / Christmas presents they are pretty good about sharing them and letting the other play.

However, having said that, if you ahve a house full of plastic tatt for DC1 the in-laws and others will still buy new plastic tat for DC2 in abundance.

raggie · 13/10/2009 18:38

Mmm...chocolate...been munching my way through a pack of Fox's chocolate honeycomb crinkles since I got in. Urgh, actually feeling a bit vomitty now. Must stop.

So, tamlin (and other people who know). How on earth do you prevent things like mcs plugs and waters/amniotic fluuid etc exploding and ruining everything in their paths?

Or don't you?

Argh! Gross stuff!

helips · 13/10/2009 18:40

Hi all,

Not sure I can keep up but Laugs I expect this baby to have ds' old toys and think teaching children to share is important. What a lot of nonsense about it not being fair, when I was a nipper me and my brother had to share and it never did us any harm.

Kyte that reciepe looks delish, I am so going to make some of those cookies. My sweet tooth is not going away, went out and bought another bag of Cadburys clusters today, yum yum

Erika sorry you've been in pain but I'm sure it's your body's way of preparing you for a nice easy birth!

Hobnob thanks for the Vbac info. I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow so hopefully she can check position of this baby, fingers crossed it's not breech and I can still have my home birth.

My back is still really painful. I don't think it helps that my car has 3 doors so putting ds in and out of car seat does my back in. Oh well, am picking up my new car on Thursday morning, yay!

Lissy hope your aches and pains get better and maman hope you are progressing well and have a cuddly baby in your arms!

Right I've got to bath ds now, sorry if I've missed anyone out but there are just too many posts! Have a great evening everyone!

ErikaMaye · 13/10/2009 18:58

Southern glad the pains have gone AHHHH and now I want a Dime bar!!!

Kyte thank you for that recipie, I might well have to get my bake on

Beepbeep from what I can gather its normal to have more bloods around now. Have been asked to have more done for my consultants appointment next week.

Midwife called me around quarter to five, said she was running so late and had a meeting to go to, and didn't want to have to rush her appointment with me, so would I mind seeing her Thursday instead. Said its fine, but I could have really done with seeing her today!! At least that shows shes obviously not that worried about us.

Am SO disappointed. Dad bought some pate, and is said that it was made with pasturised eggs so thought maybe I could eat it... Alas, no. I can't sob Pate on toast is totally going to be the first thing I eat after birth.

Though this made me grin - Mum was watching Channel 5 just now and they had a man in one of those fake baby bellys, and he was complaining about how uncomfortable it was, and how it totally couldn't be that heavy really - and he was only wearing in for five minutes

sleeplessinthecity · 13/10/2009 19:33

Laugs I 'm hoping they share as i cannot allow more red blue and plastic in the house..and plus if you buy something for DC2, DC1 will want something too..then you end up with twice as much tat..

Tonight DH is cooking...wait for it...sausages, bacon and eggs!!!! WE dont' get it here without paying £10 for each rasher...yum yum yum!!!!

sleep well folks.. I'll be sleeping with my bottle of Gaviscon..

Laugs · 13/10/2009 19:45

Ah, that's good, I will stick to my original plan of them sharing with the odd special toy that's their own then. Becky, your DSs sound lovely! DD is not great at sharing at the moment, but that's a good reason for her to learn now, right?

sleepless enjoy the fry up! I've had a rubbish dinner of vegetable fingers from the local shop, mash and beans. I'm still hungry and am eyeing up DH's fingers as he is still at work. Would he ever know if he got one less...?

erika that's a shame you didn't see the midwife. Are you still in pain? Does walking/ bathing help?

raggie Not sure about waters breaking, though I don't think it's that often that they just burst right at the start of labour, more in the movies! The show/ mucus plug is revolting, but it probably wouldn't make a big mess of anything but your pants/ bathroom floor. I think it normally comes out when you go to the toilet.

erika do you know what weight they made the man wear? I want my DH to try it, but need it to be heavier than the actual weight as he's much stronger than I am. The last thing I'd want is for him to say "Oh that? That's nothing!"

katster37 · 13/10/2009 19:45

Erika how are the pains now? Hope the MW was supportive. And at your brother yesterday. I hope you're OK, anyway.

Pav - thank you so much for posting your birth plan. I am in the middle of writing my own, and yours is fab. I love it! V concise, etc.

Southernbelle are the pains like stabbing pains up your lady bits? I have had that on and off today too, in fact at one point I had to sit down in the corridor at school. Luckily it was after the children had gone home so I don't think anyone saw. It seems to be worse when moving around. Anyway, glad you're feeling a bit better.

Kyte lovely recipe - mmmm. May have to try it out. Was going to make bread and soup (and freeze some) but your cookies sound much more tempting!

Has anyone else staretd batch cooking yet? I have been collecting those plastic soup pots from my lunch at work and intend to fill them all and freeze them. Also bought a few 'reduced as it's sell by date' ready meals to shove in the freezer and have in for food emergencies during December!

Hobnob just reading through your childbirth/VBAC post - sounds like you had a really productive meeting with MW today.

ErikaMaye · 13/10/2009 19:50

Sleepless enjoy!!!

Laugs it was nearly full term equivelent I think, so around now onwards. I think its different trying the belly and boobs on rather than just handing them the weight, as the poistioning is awkward, and presses against bits...

raggie · 13/10/2009 19:59

Oh thanks laugs re the 'plug' - cannot bring myself to write it, gives me the shivers, especially as I've seen more than my fair share of snivelly noses today - was teaching in the nursery...

katster I am looking forward to batch cooking once I move! Only 8 more days of work for me! God, soon I will be counting the hours...

Oh and thanks for the birth plan pav good place to start for us newbies!

ErikaMaye · 13/10/2009 20:26

Ladies I need your help!! Just had my interview (via phone) for a BBC article about one of the mental health organisations I've been campaigning with, and they want a photo to go with the article... If I upload some to my profile can you tell me which, if any, you think would do?? Obviously they can be cropped... And unfortunately they need my face in, so can't be the munchies belly one

Trikken · 13/10/2009 20:37

I love that one!!

ErikaMaye · 13/10/2009 20:42

Me too... Am thinking of sending it "accidentally"

beepbeep · 13/10/2009 20:52

Laugs - mine 'share' at the moment, DS has been bought some bits and pieces but birthdays and christmas' we ask people to buy vouchers and a small present if they really want to buy them something. They both have their special toys which I wouldn't expect them to share (one's they take to bed) but have found that DD has outgrown most of the stuff dS wants to play with anyway.

Erika - I had my bloods for this appt done early (2 wks ago) as I wasn't seeing my normal MW this time, not due to see anyone for another 2 wks no more bloods due then or at any other appointments. Bit strange but shall do as I'm told! Also wierd is that having met my MW once (she is new) I don't see her aain unless I make it to 41wks - 36 appt is at birthing centre and 38 is with GP. The birth suddenly seems quite near!
By the way, the pate on tast sounds SOOO nice!! Just put on my pasta (can never be bothered to cook when DH is working lates, so always fresh pasta and sauce or pizza - boring eh?!)

Helips - I have had DH's car today which is 3 doors and my bak is sore tonight, I am spoilt as mine is 5 and an MPV so quite high - so no bending.

Raggie - I think the answer is you don't!! I only noticed mucus plug with DD and that had come away in my knickers when I got to the hospital. There was quite a lot of it (not nice!) but think it would be contained by clothes! Never had my waters go pre baby just being born, but not sure you'd have much choice in this - both times I've always sat on a couple of the disposable maaternity pad things in car (that they often put under you in hosp to soak up messy stuff - can't remember what they're called but Boots etc sell them) just in case!

Trikken · 13/10/2009 20:53

votes for bumpy one!

beepbeep · 13/10/2009 20:54

Katster - our freezer is rammed - just had a Tesco shop delivered with loads of chicken and steak for beef in beer and chicken saag!! Really not sure where it's all going to go. Have already done Cicken & Leek pies and chilli.

Erika - send it!

Trikken · 13/10/2009 21:05

my freezer is full of bolognaise and chicken korma, think Dh is put out by this a little bit. whenever he sees me adding more to the freezer he says "you do know i can cook dont you?".

laugs not entirely sure the birth plan made too much of difference as many of the things I wanted/did not want did not happen/happened. But I felt more in control for writing it. I had a wonderful midwife who had only just returned from maternity leave that day and DD was her first birth since her return that day, and she was very much for natural births so I think she was pleased to have us - she loved the birth plan and asked to use it as a guide for others . What she did do though, was hold a monitor under my belly whenever I wanted to go on all fours, rather than insist on internal monitoring which she was meant to do, as that would have meant on my back. And she made me tea and toast!

I am pleased I found it as it means not needing to do it all over again , but I shall shorten it, as its 3 pages long .

I also want to ask for a physiological third stage as I feel the problems I had last time were due to a managed third stage. although I do not recall ever asking for one. I might post a thread about it though, as I have read that this should not be considered if previous pgs have resulted in a retained placenta , but I beleive the reason for this was not due to my body, but their eff up.

WizzyWoo · 13/10/2009 22:11

Evening All

Just a very quick one from me before I disappear to bed. I haven't had chance to read everyone's posts over the last few days yet so will catch up tomorrow in theory.

Had another show thing last night and started with back pain through the night. Saw midwife today and mentioned that I'd been having some pains, which felt a bit like contractions (bearing in mind that I only had induced ones last time, so don't know what natural ones feel like). After feeling my bump when I started getting them 5 minutes apart, she wanted to send me via ambulance to the hospital since I'm under 37 weeks but I managed to persuade her that my sister-in-law would be able to get me there just fine (I hate making a fuss).

After a highly embarrassing waddle through the packed GP surgery waiting room, with the student midwife telling people loudly not to worry but I was in labour and having contractions (!!!), my sister in law took me through the hospital entrance shouting the same thing to all and sundry!

After being monitored for a while, the doc agreed that I was having 3 contractions every 10 minutes but they were just mild. After a hideous examination (helped with gas and air to mask the pain of my old stitched bits), they said I could go home as although my cervix was 50% effaced, I wasn't even quite 1cm dilated, grrr!

I've been having pains on and off all afternoon but they're really not bad at all. I've been looking forward to meeting Laugs and Lissy for coffee so refuse to change my plans now, as I was in labour for days last time and that was with the assistance of being induced so I doubt anything's going to happen naturally this time.

I've been told to go back to hospital when the pains get so bad that I can't talk through them (that old chestnut!) or my waters break but since the pains really are no worse than period pains, I doubt I'll be seeing the inside of the delivery suite for quite some time. I just wish the pains would either stop completely or get the hell on with it!!

So that's the news from the Wizzy camp. I'll check back in tomorrow and catch up with everyone's news and will probably still be grumbling about pointless period type pains!

VenusInfers · 13/10/2009 22:14

Katser37 I keep trying to batch cook, misjudging the amounts and ending up with just one extra portion rather than two! Must throw a few more beans into the next casserole. Mind you the microwave is on the fritz now, so we'll still have to stand over the hob if we want to eat.

Hobnob Very impressed with that birth plan. All bases covered and then some. Thanks for your experiences of going back to work after DC1.

Wook Thanks for your thoughts too. What a tough year you both had, really. I get the distinct impression it's basically blinkin' hard what ever you do. Prob best not thinking much about it again until I have to! Have only the vaguest ideas so far how I can square the irregular working hours/regular childcare hours circle.

Erika real shame that you couldn't see your mw today. Esp after what you've been through. You must be knackered.

Spent this afternoon organising the newly decorated nursery - putting clothes in drawers, unrolling the rug, setting up a nappy changing station and putting up a nightlight and some pictures. Made me go quite sniffly when I stood back and looked at the result. Really not long now. A couple more weeks and I'll have a Mucus Plug of my very own!

ErikaMaye · 13/10/2009 22:19

Wizzy ohhh you make sure you keep track of the talking Glad the pains aren't too bad, though. Take it easy!

Venus ah well, that's the NHS for you Bless her, MW did call - she'd been up since 2am, and hadn't had time for lunch yet at 5pm, so will forgive her!!! Poor thing. And could you come do my DIY please?

Ninjacat · 13/10/2009 22:19

Best of luck wizzy

I don't have a freezer or a microwave but I do have a dp who does the majority of the cooking so no meal factory here

Starting to think ds has flu. Grrr
