Morningpaper - I did consider that about the sugar rush, but thought that the placenta was supposed to control all that. I was talking about it to my Mum (retired biology teacher) and she seemed to think that the metabolism (or maybe she didn't say that) should control the "rush" for the rest of the body, but clearly, when you eat really sugary stuff then it can't cope. I only did O Grade biology 100 years ago, so if anyone has an any more informed ideas, let us hear them!!

JoseyJo - you must have had a fright when your DH did that emergency stop. Like you said, better that than going up the arse of the car in front. On a serious note ARE WE ALL REMEMBERING that the lap part of your seatbelt should go under our bump and that the shoulder bit should be between the boobs. This is the recommended procedure. Lecture over for today.....

Lovely evening here for a change. Been doing a bit of weeding in the garden and about to plant out my broccolli and brussels sprouts seedlings. If I have time then I will thin out the lettuces. A womans work is never done etc etc

Good luck to all with scans this week. Mine is tomorrow and I am hoping that everything will be hunky dory.

hellooo everyone.
It was my b'day yesterday - hurrah!
Had a party Friday with lots of friends and their kids over. One rang last night to tell me her ds has come down with chickenpox and they had stayed the night at ours for the night so I had lots of contact with him. I didn't have cp as a child and a test last year showed that I have no immunity - not so hurrah.

Hospital insisted I have another blood test today to make sure I'm still not immune and then have been told to expect an injection of antibodies in a day or so to try to fight off possible infection. From what I've read the baby should be ok (most dangerous before 12/20 wks or last few weeks before delivery) but can be very dangerous for the mum - 30% chance of developing pneumonia and for as many as 1 in 4 of that 30% it can be fatal [yikes]. Not too panicked yet as I don't see the point - there's nothing I can do until the results are back and the hospital calls me in so it's wait and see time....

but other than this, I had a lovely b'day(!) Dh took me to a 4 star restaurant with rooms in the back-of-beyond on Sat night and we ate gorgeous food and slept in a 4 poster with egyptian cotton sheets. It was fab.

moomin: happy birthday!!!! sounds like you had a great day

ehm, mawbroon: and how do you keep the belt between your boobs????????

and mp: totally agree! this time round it's so much more exhausting!!! can't be healthy crawling/running after a toddler all day

josey: fingers crossed that everything goes allright this time!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, i moved to the uk 3,5 years ago because dp (now fiance ) is british; and that meant either him coming to austria or me moving to uk; and since my english is better than his - voila! (we live in berkshire now)

LOL SusiS

Don't shoot the messenger!

My boobs are nowhere near large enough to wedge the seatbelt in there, but that is just the advice that is given for us pregnant ladies. Written by a man no doubt!!!

hester · 07/06/2005 07:27

Jessicasmummy - that's you and me on a deal, then. My firstborn son is all yours, but only if you hand over a beautiful daughter in exchange

fastsleep - I'm still nauseous all day, every day, though thank goodness haven't vomited for a few weeks. I'm beginning to think I'll feel sick for the rest of my life. Shame, because apart from that - and the falling asleep at 9pm every night inconvenience - I'm feeling really well. Had an antenatal appointment yesterday and all seems to be going well; I'm pretty sturdy for an old warhorse. Blood pressure low, good strong fetal heartbeat (that's my kid!), fundal height just slightly over average. I felt very clever!

mawbroon, elf - best of luck with your scans today.

fastasleep · 07/06/2005 07:50

Happy birthday Moomin!

Hester you are very clever

Ok it's 7:4o something I can't think of another thing to say except lol

hester · 07/06/2005 07:58

Quick, someone get that woman a cracker...

fastasleep · 07/06/2005 08:00

If I can just get off this chair....I can go and get Cheerios... @ my weird cereal obsession, at least I weaned myself off the coco pops!

SusiS · 07/06/2005 08:30

mishmash2 · 07/06/2005 09:50

Morning ladies. I'm sorry i haven't posted for a while. Been manic at work interviewing for my replacement. Hopefully have found one so can now relax! It is suddenly making it so real especially when I have to pinpoint when I'm leaving. Might just finish on the Fri before the bank holiday w'end in August..... 12 weeks to go! I haven't been shopping at all and only have 6 free w'ends until the birth... help!

I had my scan last week - all fine except I have a restriction to my blood flow so they have to keep an eye on me incase I develop High BP which can result in pre-eclampsia. Nothing to worry about now but I do get to see my bump two more times! I have another scan in 5 weeks and then at 36 wks so at least I'm being looked after. We have decided not to find out the sex... so am very jealous of all of you who know.

No boob problems whatsover - when does leaking start? However, they now rival Jordan's in size!!

triceratops · 07/06/2005 10:06

Hey - I have got more libido than before ds. Anyone else feeling frisky?

Cuddled a newborn yesterday at playgroup. She was soooooo cute (Sascha). I have baby obsession badly.

Elf1981 · 07/06/2005 11:19

Moomin - good luck with your results for the chicken pox.

Fastasleep - glad it's not just me with the cereal obsession! Every week I buy a new box, just finished off the rice crispies, and the cookie crisps, and now onto weetabix. The other day was in the canteen and couldn't work out what I wanted for lunch, and they still had all the cereals out. How much did I want to eat cereal for lunch?!!

Scan soon. Ohhh, scared.

Plus, confused about the whole full bladder thing. Last scan, was told I needed to make sure I had a full bladder for this. Midwife is in some agreement, seems to think I have a tilted cervix (amazing how you get to learn how weird your body is when pregnant, otherwise you never get to know this stuff!) so the water will help push it forward. Just concerned she'll press on me to scan like last time and I'll be so full of water I'll pee myself!! Shame!

Yesterday was awful as had monster migraine which lasted all day & night. Felt like my brain was getting ready to explode. Now quite worried I wont be able to cope with labour if I can't cope with a migraine!!

Will post after the scan. If my nerves don't kill me that is!!

tew · 07/06/2005 11:33

Hi Elf1981, how did you cope with your migraine? I've had two, and am 21 weeks pregnant, with a 9 month old, so find it pretty hard, especially if my dd is with me at home and not at nursery. Advice much appreciated!

21 week scan this pm, and dh on a plane to the States with work, not ideal, so my mother is coming with me instead. Feel rather pathetic, hope all will be fine, but stupidly didn't sleep a wink last night. Was my bday yesterday and probably ate too much, so own fault!

Jockey · 07/06/2005 11:51

Good luck Elf, tew & mawbroon. Let us know how you get on.

Glad to see I'm not the only one still retching on here! Not much to report except a funny sensation in the bump area last night - it went sort of hard. Could it be Braxton Hicks already?

Tace care everyone.

mawbroon · 07/06/2005 13:19

Hello all. Thanks for all your good luck messages. They must have worked as there were no abnormalities or soft markers for Downs on the scan this morning. I understand that it really doesn't guarantee anything, especially as far as Downs goes, but it was one big reassurance to me and DH. Also, the hospital policy is not to tell the sex, but it looks like a blue bump for me according to the doctor, although she said not to go and paint the bedroom blue!! I have said all along that it was a boy but I need to let that little voice in my head remind me now and again that it just might be a girl - so really, I am no further forward!

Jockey - I was alarmed the first time my bump went hard until I worked out that it was either the head or the bum sticking out at the front. When I poked it, it moved and then my bump went soft again. Could this be what you are experiencing?

Beautiful weather here today for a change. My two loads of washing are almost dry and I might get some gardening done this afternoon after I have been and sorted out the paperwork for our new car . Well, not new, but new to us and about as new as we are ever going to get unless we win the lottery.

Cheers, MB

jessicasmummy · 07/06/2005 13:21

Excellent news MB - my scan is tomorrow afternoon and although our hospital dont sex the babies, im praying they might just give me hint.... at least then if it IS another girl i can get my head round the idea!

Congrats for a boy tho - im very jealous now!

fastasleep · 07/06/2005 13:27

Good luck Elf! They said to me I didn't need a full bladder after 16 weeks but no one mentioned tilted cervixes so I don't know... don't worry about wetting yourself, I've done it before!

fastasleep · 07/06/2005 13:27

Oops and congrats MB boys are brilliant!

CPT · 07/06/2005 14:03

Good luck to Elf (hope you get this before you go!) and to JM too for tomorrow (positive thoughts for us both having scans tomorrow heh! Still feeling scaredy cat about it all PLEASE let it all be ok xx

Will let you know how it goes

CPT xx

ruthiemum · 07/06/2005 15:03

I'm so pleased Mawbroon, at least it is over now and you can relax sort of!!

Elf1981 · 08/06/2005 07:16

Thanks for all the good luck messages!

Had scan yesterday and everything is fine. No markers for Downs and everything else she looked for was told looked fine too. Though baby is very shy, and had legs crossed and hands across face for most of the time! In a bit of pain this morning in my side as she had to press down on my side quite hard. She did tell me to say if it hurt, but I didn't want her to think I was a wuss!

Baby Boo got hiccups while she was scanning, it was really sweet! Plus was kicking away later in the scan, which I felt nothing of, but placenta is anterior so gives a bit of explanation.

As for full bladder - drank loads and loads and still got told I hadn't drunk enough. I swear my bladder must be the size of a cat or something!

Don't know the sex, I'm now thinking boy though. Either way I'll be happy. Got some really nice pictures to show off today, and am going to get a baby record book in the next month or so and stick a picture in there.

Good luck to those having scans today! Hope everybody has a nice day. I'm hoping for a headache free one, as I still had a miserable headache yesterday which was two days running.

Elf1981 · 08/06/2005 07:17

Mawbroon - glad everything went great for you in the scan.

Has anybody noticed quite varied dates on measurements on this scan?

jessicasmummy · 08/06/2005 07:22

Congrats Elf.... mine today.... 2pm. Scared stiff tbh! I know ive been there and doen it all before, but im a mess this morning!

Dh has managed to wangle the time off so pleased about that.... at least i wont be all on my own!

Hardly slept last night - just cant seem to get comfortable. 3 hours at the most i reckon!

CPT · 08/06/2005 07:36
