Hester: I know what you mean - my preference is really for a girl because we have a girl and i know what i'm doing. And they are CUTE! But the sonographer wasn't sure at my 20 week scan, although she THINKS it's a girl.

I don't want to spend a week in labour, and then have the midwife hand me a boy and then I shout "Oh crap!"

(I know that either will be great!)

jessicasmummy · 05/06/2005 09:40

Morning girlies!

Well, this boob thing is REALLY annoying me now, woke up at 8am this morning with stinging pains because jessica was having a tantrum downstairs!!! All ok now she is asleep!!! I do hope it calms down, another 20 weeks of this is gonna kill me!

Im hopeing its asign that BF will work this time, but who knows....

Roll on Wednesday.... SCAN!!! Dh cant come with me, so it will be just me and little jessica, a bit worried about going on my own, but there is no other way around it..

hester · 05/06/2005 09:56

Oh well, mp, if we get a baby we don't like the look of we can always sell it over the internet to some rich Americans, take a world cruise on the proceeds and then try again

jessicasmummy · 05/06/2005 09:57

PMSL Hester... can i do it too if i get a girl?! I realy really really want a boy!!!

morningpaper · 05/06/2005 10:15

Maybe we could arrange a Mumsnet Baby Swap?

jessicasmummy · 05/06/2005 10:34

Works for me!!!

SusiS · 05/06/2005 14:06

lol, can i swap the ds i already have too?
they seem to think i'll be having a girl - and hester me (whispering back at ya) had a preference about this one

OP posts:
mawbroon · 05/06/2005 16:31

LOL about the selling on the internet. I was joking to DH about having the baby adopted so that i could go to the Shaky concert in December (see previous thread!)

Went to Mothercare and bought a new mattress for the second hand cot bed that we have and also one of those 4 way slings. It seems a bit complicated, but I suppose I should practise with it before baby is born. We were supposed to be looking for a new car, but got side tracked and also bought a BBQ - really useful in this pouring rain - eh?

DH decided to have a zoom round a bumpy motorbike track in his Landrover without warning. Not the best with pregnant boobs! The baby will be seeing double when it's born with all the shoogling about it got!

Re the boobs thing, I didn't feel anything in my boobs when I held my newborn nephew the other day. Maybe just as well as it might make me all impatient!

20 weeks and 3 days to go........

alterego · 05/06/2005 16:51

What rain's that, mawbroon? - beautiful sunny day here - just hung out another load of washing and was feeling quite hot by the time I'd finished - not that I want to make you jealous or anything.

Agree with you hester about finding out the sex to avoid the disappointing feeling - it's what I did last time and it worked really well - I was well over the disappointment by the time ds was born. I've done the same again this time but not telling anyone what the result was

marinda · 05/06/2005 19:37

Hi all - not posted for ages !!! I am 22 weeks and am feeling so desperately tired all the ime. Just arranged to go on maternity at 36 weeks - but don't think I will last this long. Anyone else arranged their's yet ???

Hi Hester - Welcome back !!!!!!

morningpaper · 05/06/2005 20:58

Does anyone keep thinking, "Thank the morning sickness is over?" Wasn't that HIDEOUS?

alterego · 05/06/2005 21:16

mp - yes although I didn't have it nearly so badly as some. A friend said to me the other day, I just look a completely different person now. Before (upt to 13-14 weeks) I was just totally drained. Beginning to find it struggle walking any distance though, bump becomes hard and starts dragging.

mawbroon · 05/06/2005 23:11

Can't comment on the morning sickness being passed as I didn't really suffer badly, however I did find it difficult eating certain foods at certain times. I am just glad that I can eat whatever I want (other than the stuff that isn't allowed) and am not completely exhausted all the time. Saying that, I crashed on the sofa last night from 6pm to 9pm and then still managed to sleep when I went to bed!!

I have noticed a real pattern of movement with the baby. It is especially active just after I have eaten. Anyone else noticed that?? DH has a theory that the heat of the food in my stomach and the fact that my stomach probably expands and squishes my uterus might make the baby wiggle a bit more. Who knows? He might be right..... My MIL said that as a child, DH used to go slightly loopy after he had eaten, so maybe baby is just taking after it's Dad!

Elf1981 · 06/06/2005 07:22

MP- yes, I'm really relived that the morning sickness stage is over. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I threw up every weekday and it was getting to be a pain in the ass. I know it's all a natural process of being pregnant and everything, but there's only so many times you can throw up and keep smiling. Especially after throwing up in the street
Mawbroon - I seem to notice more movement after I've eaten too. I don't feel a lot of movement TBH which is worrying, but breakfast usually gets me a couple of flutters!

Scan tomorrow. Very nervous.

Have a good day all!

nervousmum2be · 06/06/2005 10:05

ELF1981 - good luck for your scan tomorrow. I'm sure everything will be fine

I too have noticed a set pattern of Bump movements. He's always more active when i've just eaten, and seems to get hiccups a lot - v cute I think he's just taking after his Daddy!

fastasleep · 06/06/2005 10:54

JM I feel terrible () we stole your fave name (soort of) and have named our little one Sophia Erin, or Sophi for short, sorry everyone who'd already said they were having Sophie/Sophia lol

Morning sickness over? I'm still hanging over the sink (as I'm too lazy to hang over the toilet) every morning, no way near as badly as last time though thank god - I vomited horribly the whole way through!

Best of luck for the scan Elf! I have my belated midwife appointment today where she gets to moan about my iron and I get to moan about my homebirth

fastasleep · 06/06/2005 10:56

Elf maybe you have an anterior placenta too, it really does restrict the feeling of movement lots, strangely though ever since she was poked horribly by the sonographer little Sophi's been wriggling around non stop

Joseyjo · 06/06/2005 11:40

SusiS - they live in Vienna and my sis is a member of the vienna baby group if that rings any bells? where are you?

re the boobs thing - mine aren't leaking as such, but one (which is bigger than the other anyway) has been producing a tiny bit of stuff since week 1. i have felt the wierd cramping thing though and dashed off to the bathroom to check expecting puddles galore, but nothing yet. i was advised (given our situation) to wrap them up tight and wait for hte milk to reabsorb - which led to no milk production (which was what we wanted) but horrid horrid engorgement for a week. having said that, i was very very very grateful that they weren't leaking at the funeral . quite nervous about all the boob stuff this time as i didn't get a chance to do anything last time.

mawbroon - my dh did an emergency stop on the way to a friend's house and really freaked baby out (to say nothing of me). don't get me wrong, i was glad he didn't pile into the pillock in front who had stopped for no reason, but it made baby jump about for about 20 mins!! poor little thing!

alterego - join me in keeping quiet about baby's sex... how hard is it?!! i bought a sex specific coloured baby grow in the sale on saturday and have had to hide it just in case someone noses around the nursery

marinda - i am planning to start my maternity leave in week 34, but that is mainly because i am having a planned cs at 38 weeks. i now have a chart on my desk at work that is counting down the next 11 weeks... how sad to be wishing my life away!!!

right, that is my marathon entry for the week!!!
pls all update the stats thread so i cna produce a list for us all to nose at!!!

CPT · 06/06/2005 11:54

HI ALL
Wow - Its been kinda busy here heh! Hope u r all doing well. Good Luck Elf and any others having scans - we've got our 20wk on wednesday - I'm getting all scared again. DH is being fab in trying to calm me! I too have only felt little flutters/bubbles and am desperate to fell kicking. Doppler @ midwife reassured me 10days ago but want more! Have a bit of extra padding around tummy so know that may be why no big kicks yet! We're leaving the sex of minime as a suprise but still can't wait to see him/her!

You all take care and spk soon

CPTxx

ButtonMoon · 06/06/2005 13:17

hello all...long time no see. Have been reading every now and again but not been posting for a while Will make a more concerted effort from now on. I am 21 weeks now and recently had scan, all fine so far, not found out sex as we want a suprise. Feeling generally good just a few back twinges and bump ache at times. Good luck to all who have scans to go.
Boobs are tingly, tender and red hot most of the time. Think I am leaking a little but it just dries all yellow and crusty...nice! Feeling movements quite a lot now....particulary after I eat or drink too. Just love the feeling that you are never alone....really comforting. Can't wait for the hiccups...loved that with DD. Hope all are well...take it easy folks.

SusiS · 06/06/2005 13:44

josey: i am from vienna! but don't know the baby club; i left 3,5 years ago and didn't have kids then!
why do you need a planned cs???

lots of kicking here too! and it seems to move above bellybutton now - can't be that big already

utoh, them hiccups!! ds had them too, really alot!! wonder if this one will have it too

you all enjoy your scans

OP posts:
Joseyjo · 06/06/2005 17:26

SusiS - had an early emergency cs with ds (v v poorly, 33 weeks and he sadly died at 3 days - sorely missed) and my consultant is worried about the strength of my uterus so she doesn't want me to labour in case of rupture. all sounds a bit icky and painful so i will be avoiding that! she is going to be watching v carefully as i get bigger in case it shows signs of early rupture (Again - ick... ) but hopefully all will be well.

Joseyjo · 06/06/2005 17:30

SusiS - where are you now then? why did you leave? if that is not too nosey...
according to my pregnancy calendar (which is flipover once a week!) our "fundus" should be above the bellybutton by 21 weeks so we should be able to feel movement up there.

morningpaper · 06/06/2005 17:32

Mawbroon: I think the movement after eating is due to your blood sugar levels being raised, and this makes the baby all excited! If I drink a pint of orange juice things get particularly jumpy down there!

I'm starting to feel the strain a bit physically - bump is feelng heavy and 'dragging' - skin and muscles and back all feel very strained. Feeling more tired than I remember from last time - probably the extra strain of looking after a toddler as well!

marinda · 06/06/2005 19:51

Hi morning paper- gald I am not only one feeling strain of having toddler as well - I remember it being easier last time !!
