Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Iwonka · 25/09/2009 19:48

Hi Annamama and everyone else!!!

I'm still here. Haven't been on MN for over two weeks, so sorry. Will write a proper post and explain all tomorrow or Sunday. Friends are coming for dinner, and I am still cooking...

Have a great evening!

Sariska · 25/09/2009 20:41

I'm still posting too.... Sorry to hear about the flu and the fainting; neither sounds at all fun.

Somewhat and here. Or maybe that should be and tired and depressed. Anyway. Whatever. Just got home after a hideous day at work to learn that DS has bitten four children at nursery today. Four, yes, four. He's 18 mo and the biting thing has been going on for a while and we just don't know what to do. We've tried totally ignoring it (hard because it's difficult not to let fly with an anguished yelp when on the receiving end of an unexpected bite; he does it to me, too), time out for 30 seconds or so (he does seem to understand the concept) and telling off. Maybe we lack consistency. But I just don't get it. Most of the time he is so affectionate (and he will "say sorry" - with a hug - after biting) but nonetheless he bites when he's angry, over-excited, it's Friday, someone takes a toy away from him etc etc. I know it's a normal(ish) thing for toddlers to do but I hate the fact that mine is a biter not a bitee. Feel sooo bad for the other children. Am going to organise a meeting to discuss with the nursery manager but DH is already muttering darkly about how we'll have to withdraw him....

Help? Any words of advice from those of you who've been through this yourselves? (Or am I alone in raising a little ruffian? )

Right off to eat pizza now. Day three without any MS. So something to be happy about.

MummyElk · 25/09/2009 21:19

hi kids!
back from lush hols in greece, have skimmed through all SEVEN pages since i left [starry-eyed emoticon]
welcome to those who've joined, sorry if i'm one of those who hasn't posted in a while!
So to summarise the last week...
-shopping is making people happy (also a M+P sales benefactor and v with my trousers) and why not, frankly

  • rhesus neg, me too, am taking part in a bristol university study to try and work out your baby's blood type from early on in pg so that you can potentially avoid anti d injection.
-pelvic floors. is it pixie or Pacific who's been coughing? sorry i can't keep up. anyway have had similar cold on hols and can't sneeze/cough without stopping, crossing legs, concentrating very hard....and even then it's NOT GOOD . Any tips from Pelvic Floor Gurus? -bumps are out. Quite right too.

Have I missed anything earth shattering?
Sorry if I have. And sorry to those still feeling sick, I'm getting there i think.

Head fried, off to bed to readjust back to normal life
x

MummyElk · 25/09/2009 21:23

i didn't mean to leave off the sad DC injuries btw - will think on for some activity suggestions - though if you are anything like me and therefore a Much Better Mum When Being Viewed in Public then your stamina for Interesting Activity will last about 5 mins
And huge sympathy - really. It's so horrid when they hurt themselves

PacificDogwood · 26/09/2009 12:34

TLC, hope you feel better soon. It should just be made illegal to be ill when you are pregnant as it is just not fair! I have finally (almost) stopped coughing, have slept several nights uninterupted in my own bed and life pelvic floor is much much better .

DB, poor you, fainting, and in public, how awful for you. Hope it does not happen again. I used to faint quite regularly as a younger woman (in my 20s) and thankfully seem to have outgrown it a bit, but am still aware of feeling strange when hungry, bored, standing and hot. And that is without being pregnant. Look after yourself.

I've been to my 16 week MW appointm yesterday and MY GAWD: what a royal waste of time! 90min to take personal details, obstetric history and some bloods!! I had bust a gut to clear enough time to be able to go and really was getting very nervous in the last half hour when I was aware with every passing minute I was going to be running later and the poor MW and to tick further boxes, aaaaargh! If I did not work in the NHS myself, it maybe would have surprised me more!!

Anyway, apparently I MUST have 13 weeks dating scan even though I am now 16 weeks, am certain of my dates and have already been scanned x2, the measurements both times confirming my dates, aaaaargh again. What a waste of everybody's time and resources...

Anyway, we are in sunny York and are so far having a lovely relaxing bank holiday weekend.

Doctorskidaddle · 26/09/2009 12:49

oh my goodness I just can't keep up with you lot! It has been a couple of weeks since I was last on I will confess but still, you people must type messages in your SLEEP!

Well first of all PIXIE well done you fertile lady and how very exciting and slightly terrifying!

manda - welcome! Well I am 36 in December so I am MUCH younger than you . I also cry at anything - sobbed last night watching Corrie because Amber wasn't enjoying university

Low BP - I also have this and have fainted a lot in previous pgs - just once this time round though (in the playground pushing my DS on a swing!). Also had low iron both times before so I suppose a big juicy steak is in order (although I am really a veggie). Hope you're OK now DB

Hope you get better soon TLC - sounds horrid

I think I am emerging from the MS/exhaustion hell and tentatively stepping into the 'blooming' phase - of course blooming in a relative sense but think my skin is definitely less grey and my hair may be marginally shinier - anyone else care to join me?!

20 week scan next Fri - think we are going to find out the sex - very excited!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 26/09/2009 12:59

hey everyone, xxx

Sariska- my DD is too a biter and we have tried all sorts from timeoutm to yelling, my dh even bit her back(much to my disgust), some days we havenone at all but others are a real biting marathon from her, (its def worse when she is teething, got no advise really but didn't want you to feel ignored!!!,)

we just stick to the timeout routine(she is used to this as she sees her brother(4) on the naughty step and understands the concept!!!!

did anyine watch super nanny last night? was on watch it think- was really shocked at that poor lads behaiour but what a diff she made to that whole family!!!!

hello to everyone else, get well soon and take care everyone xxxxx mwah

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 26/09/2009 13:01

heydr skid, welcome back!!!! we are finding out the sex too hopefully!!!! not til the 14th though¬!!!!cannot wait

good luck for fri!!!!! and to anyone esle who has their scan coming up too

Yeah, Supernanny rules! Didn't watch it last night but I'm a big fan. I so believe in giving kids positive attention! (Let's just hope I'll remember that when being a busy mum of 2...) I just checked about biting in our Supernanny book, but it just says it's not acceptable behaviour and to use the naughty step...

Good to see that some people are still here!

Doctorskid - that's great that you're blooming! I thought I was too a few weeks ago but now I feel really tired again. Maybe to do with BP/iron, trying to eat the 3 S's - steak, spinach & salt!

MummyElk - Mmm, Greece is lovely isn't it... That study seems interesting! Pelvic floor, yeah well coughing seems to be the hardest thing to do, I leaked a few drops myself when coughing hard in town today... yuk. If I keep having problems after this birth I will SO google this to find a specialist to help sort me out, I will not be a Tena Lady! Will let you all know on the post-natal thread...

Oh we will of course find out the sex, we are so curious. Exciting that it's coming up soon for some of you!

Hello all TLC waves from sick bed and raises cool glass of Lucozade

Designerbaby - so sorry to hear about you fainting on the tube! That sounds horrible!

Good to hear that most other people are doing well, and that I'm not the only other person who feels sick atm or is busting their pelvic floor by coughing like mad!

My DH is a G.P. and at 4am the other morning when I was wailing and moaning like a banshee he said it might be swine flu.

To be honest, I've never believed that this 'swine flu' is actually anything different to any other type of flu, so am resisting going to see my own personal G.P. for as long as I can.

I have a midwife appointment on Monday afternoon, so will say something to her if I'm still sick and see what happens.

I seem to be getting worse rather than better. Can't eat much at the minute, so have lost a bit of weight that I didn't really need to loose.

Still have a fever, shivering like mad even though the house temperature is 22degrees and am coughing so hard that sometimes my bump aches!

I'm pushing myself hard to get back into work on Monday, have important meetings coming up on Monday and really don't want to miss them.

I don't think I've got the hang of the 'I'm really pregnant and need to take things slowly' feeling yet!

Urgh! Not a good weekend so far! Just want to go to bed and sleep sleep sleep and wake up better!

Pixie I can't really miss Monday, but am taking it slow today and will take it slow tomorrow in hope that I'm better for Monday.

My mum keeps saying I'm pushing myself too hard, but I'm trying hard to stop that!

Just chilling out this evening in my PJs, drinking Lucozade and crying over all the sad people being sent home from X Factor. A real mix of hormones and illness!!!

Will keep you all updated, you lucky people getting to hear about all this! Lol!

MummyElk · 27/09/2009 11:12

morning all!!
hope the day has dawned sunny and bright for you as well, and TLC i hope the lucozade and bouts of sobbing are clearing out the system adequately for you

i've remembered i had a question for you clever types here. my dating scan before i went on hols changed my dates quite dramatically, so am now due on the 18th march. however i had the coil taken out on the 15th june, and tbh no sex between my period and that appointment. now then - bearing in mind the dates are done by measurements... is it safe to say that i'm NOT due on that date and just having a bigger baby? I was induced with my DD because they thought she was massive (she wasn't - 8lb9) but i'm fully prepared for the next one to be bigger....
so if I can't really be pg from before the 15th june, how can my dates now be for earlier than that? [confused emoticon]

hope that makes SOME sort of sense. sorry.

Just updating post scan on Friday - took DS ( 3 1/2) to scan - he was lovely and loved looking at wriggly little baby. So exciting and real all of a sudden. Just been away for weekend conference with ladies from church - amazing time of refreshing.

PacificDogwood You were in York? I live in York... where were you!? Minster? Viking Centre? Coppergate Starbucks?

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 27/09/2009 21:18

hi everyone, hope you have all had good weekends, xxxx they go by so quick dont they?

MummyElk · 28/09/2009 08:40

morning all, i second smh&r's comment - where did that weekend go?!
this morning has been greeted with a very miserable toddler waking up on the wrong side of the cot and just being arsey difficult "trying"...as i write this she's throwing her doll's buggy across the room because it didn't go the right direction for her!
TLC i hope you are feeing better today for work and that you get through it quickly enough to return back to bed!!
and thanks for the reassurance re non-mutant species! Think i'm seeing mw next week so will see what she says too - she was pretty relaxed last time re big baby so am determined to do the same.
Have a good day, i'm dragging myself about to skip off to work

Rindercella · 28/09/2009 09:16

Morning everyone, hope you all had good weekends

This thread was about to fall out of my active cons, so I thought I'd better add something before I lost you guys and then have to spend ages trying to find you again

Not much news to report, I had my nuchal results back last week - 1:2100, which I am very happy with, given that I am an old bugger of 39

TLC, I really hope you are feeling better - you sounded really quite ill. I hope you haven't dragged yourself into work if you're really not up to it.

Not much planned for today, just taking DD to her Monday morning music class...oh the joys of doing the bloody hokey cokey on a Monday morning

BulletProofMum · 28/09/2009 09:42

Mummyelk - you date of conception is right but your date of fertilisation may be different - sperm can live up to a week (especially the female ones)

annamama · 28/09/2009 09:55

TLC - are you better today?

Argh! I'm feeling sorry for myself, have come down with "just a cold" but feel ill enough anyway... Luckily I don't have to do much today. Coughing & sneezing needs to be done with legs crossed!

MummyElk - at your DD... It's funny how toddlers have their moods. Mine was in a sunny mood today before nursery, thank god.

Rindercella - congrats on your scan results, well done! Hope music class is fun...

OP posts:
designerbaby · 28/09/2009 09:58

HI all - just quickly popping in as am at work and this kind of thing is a no-go at the moment - so shhhh. don't tell!

I've been stocking up on red meat and spinach all weekend, drinking loads and, in short, trying to take my own advice so as not to have a repeat of Friday's passing-out incident on this morning's packed tube... Feeling bit better, and was also helped by DH taking DD to church by himself on Sunday morning and giving me a glorious lie-in... .

This one was really for MummyElk.. re:dates. I've read up on this quite a bit due to personal fixation with the fact that DD might not have been overdue at all when she was induced...

Anyway, my understanding is that your "weeks gone dates" is usually calculated from the first day of your last period. Now, clearly you didn;t get pregnant that day, but usually a couple of weeks alter (or in my case, it seems about 4 weeks later!). So in effect you get the first couple of weeks gratis - i.e. You are officially 12 weeks pregnant, but in reality your bean is actually only 10 weeks old... Does that make sense?

So what I'm saying is, MummyElk, although you may KNOW you got pregnant after the 15th, they're probably calculating your dates 'officially' a couple of weeks before that.

Also, as I understand it, up until about 12-14 weeks+ there isn't really that much variation in foetus size - the discrepancies between bubbas happens later - they're all much of a muchness when little. (You see they put DD right at the bottom end of the 'spectrum' when little, and, as she was 9lbs 8oz when born, I suspect she was actually just younger than they, or I, thought as neither I nor the consultants, fully appreciated the weirdness of my cycle...).

I short, I'd go with the dates from your scan, but resist induction as long as possible if you do, in fact go 'overdue' ? take the 'monitoring' option as long as you can, and explain your doubts by way of explanation...

Hope this ramble helps in some small way - please someone correct me if I'm totally talking out of my arse, I'm not a medic, just done a bit of research off my own bat - which could, after all, be total ball-cocks.

Love to all this Monday - TLC, really hope you didn't go in to work if you;re still poorly - and maybe of it is the Piggy flu you should try and get your midwife to come to you rather than go to the clinic? Just a thought...

Hugs,

db
xx

TakeLovingChances · 28/09/2009 10:12

Greetings!

I am still on the Lucozade and coughing enough to make me need to clench my legs together, but apart from that (oh, and the runny nose) I am getting better!

My fever is gone, as is my raging shivering.

I think this cold/flu/whatever is dying down.... although DH now says that he is getting a sore throat, so I may have passed it his way.

I start work at noon, and will be going in for these important meetings and other things I have to do. Also, I just got an email from my boss to say that something I've done for him (a report) wasn't quite right, so I might have to do it again. Urgh!

Is it the weekend yet????

In happier ideas, I will be going to the midwife today, going to ask to hear Baby C's heartbeat again. Bringing my mum with me and I know she'd love to hear it!

Will see you all soon.

waves to everyone else who feels ill or who has a poorly DC

BulletProofMum · 28/09/2009 10:25

DB- you post makes sense need to take into account ovulation - sex can be up to 7 days before (favours girl) or about 3 days after ovulation. Ovulation varies from woman to woman (approx 14 days on a 28 day cycle) and obviously fertiliasation can only be after ovulation.

If this can fit in with your dates then I would trust the scan dates. As DB says there is little variation in size in the early weeks.

Anya4 · 28/09/2009 10:34

Saying hello to you all and adding my name to the list below ! sorry can't find the 'hash' key on my computer.

We're going to find out the sex in 3weeks - anyone else made that decision?
