Glad to see I'm not the only crazy woman insane enough doing it all again after a considerable amount of time ;)

MandaHugNKiss · 24/09/2009 16:20

Whoops, I guess the cross out doesn't work for more than one word at a time...

Arcadie · 24/09/2009 17:55

Hi Manda. Welcome. I'm Arcadie, lover of nectarines and peanut butter. I have DS and DD already and was never going to have any more until the broody kicked in. And here I am.

At the risk of boring some of the others to tears if you're on facebook there's a MN March 2010 group which you can request to join if you'd like to see what we look like in Real Life.

Oh and I'll stick you on the list if that's ok....

Oooh, I'd love to be stuck on the list (but not with super-glue, I find it irritates my skin) - makes it sound all official, like you're saying 'one of us, one of us!'

And, yes, I'm on facebook... have to say I don't log on very rarely but it would still be great to be nosey put faces to names.

I'm six weeks pregnant in my profile picture... in Marbella. How inconvenient to find out you're pregnant two weeks before a girly long weekend in Spain Not too much sun. No sangria or champagne for me. No huge shell-on prawns. No... fun. Ok, that's a lie; I still had fun just not the kinda fun I was expecting to have.

swingsofglory · 24/09/2009 18:32

Hi all,

Manda nice to see you - please don't weep about being 36 in November. I'm 37 (ie even older) in a couple of weeks and am trying very hard to ignore the fact...

Can't remember who was talking about classes - but another vote for NCT ones here. They were helpful and did cover all aspects of the birth although it left me slightly over-keen to have a 'natural' birth which meant I sobbed when told I had to be induced. With hindsight - that was a tad silly of me but I only realised that afterwards.

I totally agree that they should teach you more about actually looking after a baby than the birth - but I guess if it's first time round that's what you are focussed on at this point. I did make some good friends from the NCT classes though which was a lifesaver in the early days particularly - still see them now (2 years later). I also met one nice Mum from the hospital class too but those ones were much bigger and more impersonal.

MandaHugNKiss · 24/09/2009 18:34

I don't log on very rarely?

I apparently don't make much sense when suffering from pregnesia.

I meant either I don't long on very much OR I log on rarely but it seems blending the two phrases is order of the day.

designerbaby · 24/09/2009 18:51

OK... been trying to catch up - but still at work, so this is a quickie!

First of all - PIXIE!!! Twins?!! Bloody hell - I only went away for a few days and I missed this! Huge congrats though, how terrifying exciting!

And hello and welcome Manda...! It's like riding a bike, surely? It'll all come flooding back...

Annamama - very at your haircut... looks luverly. I look like a tramp as DD is systematically destroying my hair, as it has inadvertantly become her comforter whenever in reach. Lots of split ends... thanks DD! Anyone else's do this? Want to get it cut properly, but am either at work or have DD is tow...

We're currently living twixt Crouch End and Highgate and Archway - weirdly pretty much equidistant from all of them, but maybe closest to Crouch End. 'Tis lovely, but we could never have afforded to buy there... We'll be relocating to Wimbledon (not the village, obviously...) in Jan/Feb/Mar/Who Knows... Where are you, you're London mum too aren't you?

One of my biggest regrets is leaving my NCT group of girls behind and their lovely babies, who are all firm friends already. They've been like family, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do without them. That's my endorsement of NCT - and has very little to do with the actual information provided, which like someone else said, did give me unrealistic expectations of what my labour would be like, and is a bit "pain relief is bit of a cop out and if you do it like we say you won't need any... which is frankly bollocks". Don't get me wrong, there was good info too, but you need to realise they kind of have their own slant on things and may not be the most balanced or realistic info you might get. But as a networking tool, fantastic, and for that reason alone I'd highly recommend it.

Having spent a lovely day with one of my NCT friends and her DD and DS at the park yesterday I've done my intercostal in again, heaving DD on and off play equipment... which I'm mighty about as I'd just got to the point of getting decent sleep again... grrr. Still, what can you do, stay in all day? DD would go nuts...

Re: blood pressure, I've suffered with low blood pressure on and off since my teens. They don't tend to medicate for it here (as they do in most other parts of Europe) but yes, keeping fluids up is very important _ I'm bad at it, but know I feel much much worse when I don't.

And, incidentally, salts. Obviously not to the extent that you turn your arteries to concrete, but another sign my blood pressure is low is a craving for Marmite straight out of the jar on a spoon [gross emoticon].

Also keep an eye on your iron - low BP plus anaemia (even slight) is a very bad combo indeed!

Hope this helps - better go if I ever want to go home tonight!?

waves hands I'm another 'borderline hypotensive'

Currently 102/64 so not too bad yet... but I'm also dreadful with keeping hydrated.

I just sent a request to the group over on FB.

Welcome Manda!

I'm so of all you ladies who are able to go to NCT classes. I live in the back of beyond and they don't do them here, closest ones are ages away

I can go to nhs ones like I did last time but didn't make any friends I kept through that, we'll see...

I have been going to aqua natal each week to try and make some more friends, I really enjoy it and it's free. We get cake and coffee afterwards too and a chance to ask the midwife any questions/ have a general chat

Well i've stuffed myself with a curry for tea and now feel uncomfortably full, groan...

donttrythisathome · 24/09/2009 22:01

Pacific thanks for the tip re the rhesus-. I didn't know it, so my OH is going to check tomorrow with the doc.

Manda I'm 36 and I'm only having DC1 now so I don't think you've anything to weep about!!

annamama · 25/09/2009 07:41

Welcome Manda! Your new partner must be so excited, is it his first...? And you of course! I'm another old hag, 36.

I didn't know that low BP and low iron in combination is extra bad... where's that steak?!

DB - cheers Oh yes I remember now that you said you're moving to Wimbledon. Mmm love Crouch End & Highgate (Archway is ok...). Me London mum? Unfortunately no. I was single and renting in Tufnell Park for 5 years, then met DH (who used to live in London too) and moved into his big house in Kent 1+ hr away. The plan was that we were moving back to London together after that summer... Then came pregnancy (DD) and property crash and we're still here! House is for sale, anyone interested? I gave up work recently (in the City) because I couldn't do the commute anymore. Am now slighly bored housewife, hence my many posts on here...

Oh and yes, my DD loves holding on to my hair as well for comfort! You need to cut the split ends off and then get a wig to wear when your DD wants a cuddle!

It's Friday! Extra nice for those of you who work, well done...

TakeLovingChances · 25/09/2009 14:02

Waves hello to Manda and all the other March 2010 ladies.

I like the little intro to yourselves you did.

Here is mine: I am TakeLovingChances (not telling you my real name but will say that TLC is my initials), I am 24 (think I might be the youngest on this thread!!!!), I have no DC yet, I live in Northern Ireland.

So yes, there you go.

Another thing about me is that I am DYING of the flu!!!! Was up all night totally roasting with a fever, coughing my lungs up, being sick. I look like I have two black eyes cuz they are so purple/red in colour. Feel like total crap and really hoping it will pass soon

As for NCT classes: when do they start? My midwife told me they start at 32 weeks! I'm only 17 weeks so still pretty far to go!

T

pureeandpearls · 25/09/2009 14:20

They may start at 32 weeks but they get booked up very early TLC!

INtro: Puree...32 (mentally checks aclendar to see if she's right...pregnant brain is a killer)...really looking forward to being a SAHM as finding very hard to mix parenting and pretending to work. Bromley-based so London/Kent dependng on how precious you are about zones.

TLC- sorry about 'flu. I have a cold and feel like death. Also yet another migraine trying to creep in, which will totally kill weekend with friends. Ho hum.

[wanders out of the room giving herself stern talking to about being a hypochondriac.]

PS wearing a t-shirt that says 'look but don't touch'- anyone else had uninvited bump feeling?

designerbaby · 25/09/2009 14:49

Hi everyone - sorry to hear you have the flu TLC - is it the swine variety do you think? HOpe you feel better soon...

I passed out on the tube this morning - which was a bit rubbish .

Been feeling really tired and not very well for a while, but just figured I'd been overdoing it with the move and all. And then this morning, I felt rubbish, but was running late so skipped breakfast, walked to the bus stop with DD, took her to nursery and basically an hour or so later got on a moderately busy tube - nowhere near a seat. But it kept filling up, and got hotter and hotter, and I was trying to hold on above my head, and before I knew it, just before Kings X everything went white and I was crumpled on the floor. Nice lady helped me off the tube, and I sat on the floor of the platform while she wafted me with her metro. A nice chap gave me his unopened bottle of water. People were so kind...

The LU first aider arrived and I spent a while in the first aid room at Kings Cross drinking water with a fan on me, before being escorted back down to the circle line and put on a train, ensuring I had a seat.

I felt a bit stupid for going out without breakfast and causing so much fuss, but finally got to work, and after a few cups of tea and some toast I'm feeling much better - although still a bit wiped out.

Trying to now persuade DH to cancel some of our plans for this weekend so I can try and catch up... we'll see how that goes!?

So that's today's bit of excitement from designerbaby world...

MandaHugNKiss · 25/09/2009 15:09

So many welcomes - pathetically feeling all teary eyed that you're all so nice!

I'm usually sarcastic, cynical/realist and rarely get teary-eye over anything. Damn hormones. Made me have a mini-meltdown last night when I couldn't find my doorkey and we were going to pick up a thai takeaway. Crying over spilt milk, I've heard of ('though not experienced) but crying over a mislaid key? Flipping hell, get a grip woman!

Even when it turned up I was still sobbing like a disaster had happened, so SO went to get the food alone. He helpfully laughed at me later in the night when I was 'over it' to say 'don't worry, I know it's your hormones'. Now wondering how long I can eek out a 'it's my hormones!' excuse even post-birth

TLC Sorry to hear you have the dreaded 'flu. I'll just say what any doctor/mum would advise (despite the fact it's annoying!) - stay hydrated, try to up your vit C/zinc and rest up.

That advice applies to you, too db. I see things haven't really improved when it comes to offering a pregnant woman a seat on public transport since I was carrying DS 12 years ago... sheesh, I'm all for equal rights and, yes, a woman is just as capable as standing as a man... but a pregnant woman is effectively two people and as such as twice as many rights to that seat be you a woman or a man! Glad the 'aftercare' once you'd collapsed was good though. Uh, I'll just step off my soap box...

Ah, annamama, this will be SO's second. He has a DD 12 but indeed he's very excited and often lays his hand on my roll of flab baby bump. Even speaks to it occasionally despite me helpfully pointing out baby can't hear a thing yet Still, I think he does it more or me than the baby.

Hope everyone that isn't suffering from flu/colds is feeling well

MrsJamin · 25/09/2009 17:01

Can I just say that the hotmilk bra i've just bough is amazing - just so comfortable and well made- well worth the money as it's maternity and nursing - I got it from www.nursingbra.co.uk as they had the best delivered price.

annamama · 25/09/2009 17:54

Oh DB that sounds horrible! At least some nice people took care of you, you poor thing. Never leave the house without breakfast! Make up a sandwich the night before and keep in the fridge if you think you might be running late again... The tube in rush hour is awful even when not pregnant!

Bulletproofmum - sorry I don't understand? Are you new on our thread or were you here before with a different name...? If you're new - welcome!

I got my test results from the quadruple test today already on the phone, they gave me a combined risk 1:1400. Not sure exactly how that was worked out but I will shut up now and stop worrying!

Some people haven't posted for ages, are you still lurking, please give us a sign of life...?

TLC - sorry to hear about your flu. I was convinced dd had it last weekend as she had a raging fever - but understand it lasts longer than 24hrs; damn, was hoping we'd got it out of the way.

Db - no fun commuting on a busy tube when pg. I did it last time and am not missing it a bit this time. Glad people were so helpful tho. Afterwards, of course

Very excited this week as we have had quotes for a garage conversion and new kitchen. Ouch about the price, but almost as good as moving, don' cha think????

Oh, and on the intro front, I'm 35, so also hag-esque! I'm a Northerner living in Surrey - but am a bit of a mongrel really!
