What Tena?

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 08/10/2009 16:10

Annamama, I was going to leave you a special post, honest! I, erm, love the names Dixie and Trixie, and will definitely be calling the twins that. Definitely.
Or, maybe not! DH thinks that it would be nice to give them names which start with the same letter, but I've put my foot down. They are having very different names. Very different!
But Dixie and Trixie are lovely names!
To namechange, click on 'My Mumsnet' at the top of the page, and then click on 'Registration Details' - the namechanging option is about halfway down the page, but don't forget to click save!
I definitely felt a kick in a different place from where the last one was - really high up, and so I think Twin2 has started to move properly - Twin1, who is sitting lower down, has been kicking for about three days!
I am a Tena Lady, but then I'm sure it wouldn't have been long before I became a full time Tena Lady, anyway, had I not become pregnant

EmLouT · 08/10/2009 16:14

Annamama - you should have seen the size of me after giving birth to DS two years ago - I looked like a whale and decided that the only way I was ever prepared to get PG again was to make sure I shifted all the baby weight and more before going for it again. But all the exercise in the world (apart from shifting the weight) is bullshit - pelvic floor as weak as it was before.

Now you've mentioned wine I am debating the merits of a small glass tonight - we are going out for dinner with friends we only see once a year as they live in New York and they are flying home tomorrow. Is a small glass really ok at this stage?

DS currently cutting up post it notes on the lounge floor with a pair of scissors which I have no idea where he got. Must go before the loses a finger!

MandaHugNKill · 08/10/2009 16:45

Thanks for the namechange tip

Oh yes. I feel positively murderous!

Haha, scary... We'll be in the States for Halloween, it's a real big thing there so it will be fun for DD, I hope! Bought her this witch dress in Tesco for £6, it's more cute than scary though, pink and black with stars (she loves stars that's why I bought it).

Is Halloween a big thing with everyone's kids? (It doesn't really seem like it where we live.)

Pixie - I'm glad you like the names! I will be very offended if you decide to call them something else now.

Re alcohol, the official recommendation is no more than 1-2 units 1-2 times a week... I think? But the first 3 months I drank nothing as didn't feel like it, maybe it's the body's way of telling you it could be harmful to a developing brain etc. But now when it feels good again to have a little drink occasionally I'm pretty sure it's ok. Cheers.

Manda - yes we are finding out. Are you? Shandy craving is a strong indication it's a boy, let's start a new old wives tale! Thanks for the tips re pelvic floor.

I need to start packing for Florida, don't want to, hate packing...

Manda LOVING the namechange!

Annamama we're Christians which is something that has made us seriously think about what we do at Hallowe'en time. I'm fairly sure we won't ever encourage the DCs to celebrate it but they do "light Parties" in York which gives them a chance to dress up (not in skeletons or owt, more like fairies and supermen!) and have a party but without any of the other connotations.

Knickercheck.... seems dry, but haven't coughed or sneezed today so not a fair test!!! Clench release ... clench... release....

Anyone know if chicken pox is really bad in pregnancy? Just out of interest - it came up in a conv today but we haven't had any contact as far as I know...

pureeandpearls · 08/10/2009 19:19

Arcadie- I had exposure in the first few weeks of pg and was very worried as first dozen weeks are crucial for development. Don't know beyond that... incidentally we are havng a kid's halloween Party to which I am inviting a few people from church. I was really unsure what to do about the whole evil spirits thing so came up with the idea of a Pumpkin Party where it's all about the Pumpkin. No point, just felt like getting all excited about my party!!

[P&P goes off to think up good Halloweeny name]

scarysarahandco · 08/10/2009 19:23

thanks so very much icwas- may take you up on your wonderful and such kind offer,

halloween name change for me too not very good though xxx

hope everyone is ok, xxx

who has scans soon? mine is next wed & i cannot wait

scooby26 · 08/10/2009 19:51

Evening All,

Sarah - our scan is week on Tuesday. At present we think we aren't going to find out the sex but f we are tempted we defintely won't tell anyone in RL.

Dare I aska 'weight' question- for fear of being shot down?? Not having done this before I am keen not to put on toooo much weight. I read somewhere that putting on one stone by 20 weeks is about right. As it happens I'm 19 weeks and have put on 10 lbs. Hows everyone else doing ?? Should I be worried or is that about right? I honestly havent eaten for England so suprised it's going on so quick!!

Filled in forms at new GP this week. Waiting and hoping that their MW contacts me!!!

xx

Arcadie · 08/10/2009 20:22

Puree LOVE the pumpkin party idea. think it's great to celebrate this slightly gloomy time of the year and pumpkins are very cheerful chaps. In fact a lady at my church who is the nicest granny type you could ever want decided to "reclaim pumpkins for Jesus" last year . She got kids carving them nicely, putting a candle inside and then read the church a little "thought" about how pumpkins are a lot like Christians ( bear with me on this!!!):
We have all the nasty goop scooped out from inside of us and God's light put back in. So if any of your church mates have an issue with your party you know what to say!

annamama · 08/10/2009 21:01

Scooby - sounds like you're doing well! Extra weight is made up of baby, placenta, amniotic fluid, extra blood volume in mother, heavier boobs. Did I forget something...? Oh some fat too!

I thought everyone had already had chicken pox when they were kids...? Always something to worry about!

Pumpkin / light party sounds nice! DH is jewish but they celebrate christmas, halloween and whatever else as well as the jewish holidays.

Chicken pox in pregnancy can be bad in some cases but nine out of ten of us are immune (even if we haven't actually had chicken pox). When I was PG with DS chicken pox was all over the school I was teaching in and they sent me home because I hadn't had it - I had a blood test and it turns out I am immune anyway - which at the time I thought was a bit of a bugger as I would have liked more time off work.

Re halloween - the school I work at has a massive party so I will have to get dressed up and I have a pumpkin suit for DS so he doesn't feel too left out - personally I think it is a waste of time and am a real halloween party pooper refusing to open my door to anyone who trick or treats after 7.30 - the theory being that if they are old enough to be out alone at that time they are too old for trick or treat.

Out of interest - I am 20 weeks and have put on just over a stone - partly baby but mainly because I have allowed myself all the things I would have denied myself before (chips, chocolate, cheese etc). Don't worry too much - you will gain what you are meant to and it will shift afterwards.

Just took DS into central London to see friends for dinner. I took him in the pram on the tube at rush hour - I am never doing that again!!!!!!

Night all.

Sariska · 08/10/2009 21:48

What's all this about pelvic floors? I much preferred the chocolate talk!

annamama - I'm ok, thanks. Had various samples and swabs tested but all came back negative. I've been told it could have been part of the mucus plug but if it was apparently it can regenerate and there's no need to worry as long as there's no blood and no abdominal pains. Hope this is right!

Very envious of everyone's holidays. DH and I had a night in a New Forest hotel last night, which was lovely but even though DS stayed with his grandmother I didn't sleep well. Why? Why? Why? DS, on the other hand, slept very well and apparently did not wake til 6.25, way better than the 2.45 he treated us to the night before.

Hallowe'en, hmmm, well I like cooking with pumpkins. Does that count?

MandaHugNKill · 08/10/2009 22:59

Oh no. No, no, NO!

sariska re your last post, it popped into my head maybe I should try and combine the two topics to better please you and... now all I can think about is Marianne Faithfull.

Now I have the #A mars a day, helps you work, rest and play# jingle playing over and over in my head!

How will I ever sleep tonight?

pureeandpearls · 09/10/2009 08:52

Mmm- Mars Bar. Will get one of those later.

Surprised to learn, when I weighed myself just for you Scooby, that at 20 weeks today (woohoo: half-way, or in my case more-than-half-way) I have put on 11lbs!!! For the record last time I stopped weighing myself at 2 stone (around 36 weeks) and the only reason I weigh myself at all is for MIL. As those of you who are friends on FB will have seen, I do bump. MIL is somewhat obsessed with weight and always makes a comment. It makes me feel better to know that I haven't put that much on iyswim.

Arcadie- like the goo-scooping analogy.

EmLou- pushchair? Rush hour? You are stark staring bonkers brave

Sarahandco- scan on Monday at 2pm and I will be finding out. I can't wait.......

TMD · 09/10/2009 09:18

Hi all May i join you all? Due on thr 4th march second sucessful pregnancy so far. Loads to think about and discuss but nipper won't leave me in peace! I'm 19weeks and morning sickness still comes and goes but much better.

annamama · 09/10/2009 09:38

Welcome TMD! I'm expecting my second child too, my DD is 17 months. How old is your "nipper" and what is it? Hope your sickness goes soon, not fair to have it for so long...

Has anyone thought of a funny new thread title yet? I can't think of anything funny this time. But something that is / will be relevant is finding out the sex (or not) so how about something along the lines of

Due March 2010 - It's a... BOY/GIRL/SURPRISE!

We need suggestions! Now!

TakeLovingChances · 09/10/2009 10:19

Hello!

There have been lots of posts since I last looked, so excuse me for not being able to remember who said what.

I'm starting to feel movements :-) Is nice to feel.

Last night DH and I went out and bought the most BEAUTIFUL crib ever!!!!! It is second hand, in perfect condition and such a bargain! It's just like my perfect idea of a crib

I'm only 19 weeks so prob a bit early, but I just had to have it!

Scooby I think it was you who said about putting on weight.... I am 19 weeks, still wearing my normal clothes, except some of them are getting tight. I don't weigh myself, I've always been a bit obsessed with my weight, so trying not to weigh myself at all! Some people still aren't noticing that I'm pregnant, so I guess that's an indication of how much weight I haven't put on yet!

Arcadie DH and I are Christians too. It is my birthday on Halloween, so we always celebrate it. We don't make reference to Satan or anything, but pumpkins and stuff are alright. In fact the other day I got a little pumpkin outfit for the baby to wear next year :-)

TMD · 09/10/2009 10:22

Hi (annamama)my little one is male and three and a half!! very hypo and demanding! He definately needs nursery on a more full time basis but his free place for 15hours helps greatly!

Just trying to cook some carrot soup for my lunch. Keep my immune system up afer being ill last week. Antibiotics knocked me sideways! Being Gluten intollerant makes it difficult to just go out and buy food! Altho after 7yrs it's getting easier to know what I can and can't eat. The sickness has stopped just the nausea rears it's ugly head occassionally!

I'm excited about this preg as have waited so long for it to happen again, we MC in sept but well on my way now and anomaly scan 26th oct. I will hopefully have fibroids ruled out, and they will also be checking for baby's kidneys as my son had kidney reflux when born and was left un detected I nearly lost him at 5 weeks. But he's def on the mend and off his meds now just have to keep close eye on him!

Any strange cravings? Mine is mostly salty food and meat! oh and crisps again. Had that with my first.
xxx

MandaHugNKill · 09/10/2009 10:33

Sheesh, there should be a warning for those 'giving birth' programmes on discovery home and health: 'Be aware tht if you're pregnant, your hormones will make you cry. A lot. You might even make a funny whining sound'

Welcome TMD Happy to have you here!

pureeandpearls · 09/10/2009 15:44

DO NOT WATCH THEM Manda.....at least not yet. You'll be a mess by the end otherwise

Welcome TMD- no cravings here, unless you count chocolate, cake, hot choclate, chocolate cake, fudge, chocolate ice-cream. No, wait, that's not just pregnancy!! Sorry about the mc: I've had two. They suck. But you made it to 19 weeks!!!!

Annamama- our babies must be almost the same age. Didn't you say you were London/Kent based? We should meet up!

TLC- crib sounds heavenly and imo is not too early. I had most stuff by 24 weeks last time and was glad I did when I was stuck in bed with SPD towards the end.

Re: thread title. As long as it doesn't rhyme or say 'the one where' I dont mind. Could just be March 2010: yet more chat!! as we seem to fill threads often enough.

PacificWerewolfwoohood · 09/10/2009 16:25

Hi, all, our interweb at home is broken , I do not know how we will all cope!!
So quick post at work:

Hello, TMD! Welcome aboard. Hope you feel v much better soon .

My blood count is better, so DH can stop panicking being concerned. I am certainly relieved too, as we are off to Centreparcs tonight I did not fancy having to hide from the general public while there. So 'tis all good.

I am no good at all thinking up new thread titles and would probably stick with a simple "March 2010" type thing... v boring, me.

Manda, when I had my MCs I loved watching all those birth stories programmes in a kind of "see, it happens to all those women, it can go well for you too" kind of way. A bit twisted, maybe, but I really enjoyed the snivelling and the crying....

Have a nice weekend all. I will be back (in the words of Arnie) when our technical difficulties are resolved.

annamama · 09/10/2009 17:42

How about Due March 2010 - We're halfway through! or something like that? It just occured to me that we are actually (almost) halfway through our pregnancies already.

I managed to pack all mine and DDs stuff for Florida! We are leaving on Sunday morning and will be gone for 3 weeks. I will be posting from there too so don't think you can get rid of me that easily!

Puree - I saw that you live in Bromley... that's actually where we are hoping to move to! I consider that London. We are far out in darkest Kent. Would love to meet up sometime.

Manda & Pacific - Oh I didn't know there are giving birth shows. Might have to have a look!

TMD - I'm sure your craving indicates it's a boy or a girl, not sure which! I posted some old wives tales ages ago... Just google boy girl signs. Carrot soup sounds nice! I'm craving mostly healthy stuff like fruit & veg. Boring eh...

Off to give DD a bath now and then attempt cutting her fringe... with help from DH (holding her head)!
