hi all, wow RETRO your house sounds amazing, i want to move to the country too!!!!hope you manage to get thru you extremly busy month without getting exhaustion, xxxx

glad to hear everyone sounding so up beat, xxxx

hecklephone · 07/09/2009 20:46

Sounds like lots of us have been busy over the last week/weekend!

Retro, your new house sounds like something I would drool over on Escape to the Country - lucky you!

pureeandpearls we need more detail about your maternity coat. I too am weighing up whether or not to buy one. In fact, I asked a friend today who was pg at this same time last year and she said she didn't buy one but thinks she should have. I've also been eyeing up one from JoJo - but it's a maternity fleece, long line with a removable zip so you can use it after pg too. Seems like it might be a sensible buy? Also been scoping out ebay for any bargains and there are lots of black/swing style coats going on there. Not sure that's what I'd be after though...

I'm not too worried about buggies etc with our age gap - will be 3.5 yrs between the two and DD is already pretty good at walking short distances. Having said that, we went out on her scooter today to the local shop, but she gave up after about 2 mins with 'tired legs' so I dragged the thing all the way there and back!

TLC and iwonka really glad you and babies are all well

Anyone else been suffering killer headaches? I had a splitting head last night - not sure if it's pg related or just caffeine withdrawal (I haven't stopped altogether but have cut back quite a bit!)

MummyElk · 07/09/2009 21:50

quick post but YES on the killer headaches...got them a lot with the last pg too.
was fine about it till pharmacist told me no paracetamol in first 12wks of pg? (anyone else heard this?) Have to say i've had to succumb some times though..
if it helps - i think it's quite a lot to do with dehydration (and hormones of course but let's try and find a realistic solution here). If I don't drink enough in the day by 3pm It's Looming and by 7 i'm done for. Have drunk like a flipping fish for the last week and haven't had any....
And I MEAN like a fish - prob at least 8 pints

I only have one emoticon for retro . (it's more of an envious smile but i think you get the gist)

RetroMum1 · 08/09/2009 08:31

Thanks everyone it is my dream house but I still feel sad to be leaving all my friends.

Yes we do need more info on these Maternity coats. I have seen a really next checked cloak in Hobbs which isn't maternity but as it's a cloak i thought it would grow with me and be usable afterwards. The only thing is it's £250 and DH hit the roof when I mentioned it!. I keep telling him it's an investment I can use for years !. Alhtough I think a wax barbour may be more appropriate now!

I also already have a phil and teds, bugaboo and maclaren . The phil and teds has been brilliant when I have looked after DD's friends and we will use it for this LO.

I'm glad other people have mentioned the killer headaches as I seem to have had them constantly for 10 days now. I remember having some with DD but not this bad and I don't like to take anything but if they don't get better soon I may have to resort to paracetamol.

I hope everyone had a good nights sleep and are not suffering from bloody insomnia, when will this stop?

xxx

Iwonka · 08/09/2009 11:16

Hello everyone!

Scooby, hope you enjoy your holiday in Italy. I'm in the same boat as you, as this will be my first baby. And this will be our last 'couple' holiday as well.

TLC, glad that all is okay with the baby! Hope you are feeling more relaxed now.

Retro, your house does sound fabulous! I hope you manage to complete all the arrangements with little stress and heartache. Don't worry about leaving your friends, I'm sure they will gladly visit you.

I don't have the headaches you guys speak of, but I have a terrible time sleeping. I just can't get comfortable and I keep waking up HD tossing and turning. I think I will get one of those maternity pillows, they look comfortable and hopefully will let me sleep better. Do any of you have one?

Had a funny experience yesterday. I decided to attend my first anti-natal water workout. Everyone was checking out everyone else's bump, it was quite amusing. I think besides one other person, I was the least 'advanced' in the group. It was quite fun nonetheless. Will try and go back next week...I'm sure some of those ladies will have given birth by then.

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful day!

BetterBitOfButter · 08/09/2009 11:30

Hello can I add myself? Had my first scan am due 23 March. This will be baby number 2. Found out I was pregnant 6 weeks ago so feel like I have known for ever. We were sticking at one ... oops! More contraception care required. But very very happy about baby number 2.

Josie22 · 08/09/2009 13:38

Hello

Haven't been on here for ages as have been away. Will try and spend some time looking through posts later but hope everyone is progressing well. Hello to any newbies!

I had my 1st scan three weeks ago which was great - can't believe how clear it all was and how much it moved around. It was so good to see it as it all started to feel so much more real. They told me I was a week further along though which was lucky as I flew the next day and an air hostess told me that you shouldn't fly in first trimester (I had no idea but according to scan I had jumped into 2nd). MS has at last left and have had two weeks of sick free (if not nauseaus free) days (bar a random attack on Sunday ). Have a stinking cold though and would kill for some sudafed. Instead allowing myself one paracetamel when the headache gets too much.

Me and dh have made a decision to move out of London while we were away but as we are under contract we can't break our lease until Feb. Is it completely crazy to even think about moving then? Has anyone else done anything as silly?

PacificDogwood · 08/09/2009 16:07

Josie, at air hostess saying you should not fly in 1st trimester... if that were the case I'd have doomed all of my existing children several times over .
3rd trimester airlines get twitchy about just in case somebody went into premature labour whilst on board - what a birthing experience that would be!
Anyway, how would they know you are in your first trimester??
Just realised, that 1st trimester might well apply for pregnant flight personell, I know they get grounded as soon as they find out/tell that they are pregnant due to increased natural radiation at v high elevation. 1 flight to New York = 1 chest XR, apparently.
Here endeth the lecture

Nothing new to report here, work gets in the way of a decent afternoon nap and MNing my social life something terrrible...

And welcome to Bitofbetterbutter

Walnut8 · 08/09/2009 16:36

Hi everyone

I had my scan today, very happy to see that everything looks good so far. So relieved, am walking around with most ridiculous smile.

Anyway, dates were spot on (DD 13 March) so I can add myself to the list (was going to add you too Betterbitofbutter but didn't want to accidentally step on any toes!)

I havent posted for a while but wanted to say Iwonka, I was so happy when I read your (updated) news. Glad all other recent scans have been good too. Have been having bad bad headaches as well, my mum said may be to do with fluid retention and to try to limit my salt intake and drink plenty of water. I don't know if I can though!! I have been living off Vegemite on toast....

Minicooper · 08/09/2009 19:43

Count me in on the killer headaches - have resorted to paracetamol once or twice - and am about to go and take some tonight! Suspect dehydration has something to do with it, though have drunk nothing but water today. Mummyelk, I hadn't heard that it wasn't supposed to be taken in 1st trimester - in fact my midwife told me last wk that it was fine to take it and not to stint on the dose.

Josie, I'm sure flying's fine in the 1st trimester - I did last time, no such luck this time! Its selfcatering in the uk all the way now that we have a lo!

pureeandpearls · 08/09/2009 20:19

Killer headaches- I'm there. I'm with Mummyelk about the drinking- definitely not drinking enough. I had headaches last time too.....found these head things in Boots (like the Kool patch things that you stick on your forehead) that help ease the agony. I thoroughly recommend them.

Maternity coat- it's green and Empire line and very nice (wore it yesterday) though the sleeves are a bit long so will get that sorted!

Arcadie · 08/09/2009 21:16

Welcome BBoB.

Am still on holiday - but with my parents rather than ILs so MNing time is limited.

Iwonka fab news.

Killer headaches: I'm on about my 10th migraine of the pregnancy. Something to do with nasty hormones. Nasty.

On the plus side I spent the day with DPs DH and the DCs at Godstone Farm in Surrey. B-E-A-Yootiful place and so much racing around for the kiddies that I feel sure tomorrow will not start at 6:25....

Had another boakworthy meal tonight. Cottage pie. Usually a fave but somehow the MS turned it into a meal that is still making my mouth sweat and my stomach churn....

PacificDogwood · 08/09/2009 21:58

Just realised I got BetterBitofButter's name totally wrong earlier - I am SO SO sorry!! If it is any consolation, I a rubbish at names in RL too, so please do not take this personal.
I shall slink off to bed and try harder tomorrow

BlueyDragon · 08/09/2009 22:13

Hurrah, a good news catch up this time (and fewer pages!). Great news for Iwonka and TLC, and also for Retro - you do have room for us all, right? It sounds gorgeous.

Sariska, thanks for the tip on the bras, I shall try Figleaves. I hope you didn't go contorting yourself in the ladies on my account!

Dophus and Tigeress, I'm in Knaphill so kind of in between both of you. I'll get going on FB and we can maybe sort something out.

Feeling quite large at the moment and also my brain is starting to fall apart. Couldn't it wait? Can't remember names at all any more. Also unbelievably hormonal and all my patience is exhausted by work so no patience for DH and DD . Not helped by the fact that DD is being particularly trying at the moment (fifth bout of parental attendance required and it's only 10:15)...

scooby26 · 08/09/2009 22:27

Evening all,

Had a delivery today from HOTMILK lingerie. If you haven't heard of them they do very very nice non wired pretty (sexy??) underwear. Granted full price they are expensive but if you shop around you can get the odd set in the sale. AND they are nursing bras so useful next year too. A girls always gotta have some nice underwear to feel good - right??!

pureeandpearls · 09/09/2009 10:04

HOTMILK just sounds so wrong though, don't you think? Or am I more prudey than my 32 years????

PS- anyone else just permanently angry/stressed at the mo?

PacificDogwood see I told you the GP thing would come to haunt you.... I have astonishingly sore sinuses (as least I assume that's what the blinding pain behind my face when I bend over is about) you can't think of anything a big old preggo like me can take with it can you?

Pixie Told my DCs as well for similar reasons. I'm sure I remember finding out from someone at school that my mum was expecting my sister and would HATE that to happen to my smallies ( which at 3 and 1 they'll not remember but hey...)

mumbot · 09/09/2009 21:24

Looong day at work today, I really want to stay up to watch beardy witch man predict the lottery results but bath and bed are calling.

Bump getting v big - people keep asking if I'm expecting twins - eek

Scootergrrrl · 10/09/2009 08:48

Morning everyone! I've got my first scan this afternoon - I had my first two children in the UK and this one's going to be born in Germany so it's a whole new system to get used to. Apparently, I've been forewarned that if the obstetrician can't get a good enough shot of the baby externally, they go (gulp) internally with the probe.... I'm beginning to wish I hadn;t told the other two DCs that they could come along

annamama · 10/09/2009 09:29

Hi! I'm just back from holiday in Rhodes. Been prancing around the pool & beach in bikini, proudly showing off my growing belly... got a few looks, people probably thinking "is she, or is she just fat..?" And I was wondering about a few other women I saw too! Was trying to exchange knowing glances but it didn't work... and of course you can't say anything, in case you're wrong! DD had a great time, she loved swimming every day. We did a few strenuous things like walking up to an Acropolis on top of a BIG hill in brutal heat... could never have done that a month ago when I was so sick & tired all the time, but now it was ok. Food was so lovely, greek food is really healthy and yummy I think, mmm.

Been catching up... what a happy ending to Iwonka's story! How great that you found out about that clinic in the nick of time, thanks to a fellow MN'er. All I can say is: never believe everything you hear, always do your own research and go private if needed. That goes not just for pregnancy but everything to do with health.

I also think most headaches are to do with dehydration. Only drawback with drinking lots of water is you have to go to the loo all the time, but that's pg life... Migraine is so horrible! I only had one in my life, just before I found out I was pg, in fact that's one of the reasons I thought I was pg as it can be hormone related... It was quite scary, was on train to work and started getting blurry vision and my hand went numb. Then got awful headache and felt really weak and ill. Yuk! Poor Arcadie...

Retro - yes it's hard leaving friends, but you'll make new ones and at least you'll have family nearby! And yeah your friends will come and visit you I'm sure. It will be interesting to hear how you'll get on, after you've moved.

Ran into someone outsided nursery today who recognised me from aqua-natal classes last time I was pg. She's also pregnant again and she's going to aqua-natal tonight! Eek. I hated it then, only went because I thought I had to force myself to do something. Hmm, we'll see about tonight. Well done Iwonka for going!

PacificDogwood · 10/09/2009 11:00

Arcadie, sorry I only saw your post just now: no NOT rely on my advice to be timely in life or death situations . Hm, yes, sinus pain, you can obviously take Paracetamol at usual dose, avoid decongestant tablets and anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen. You can take Cocodamol although not licensed in pregnancy, it depends on how desperate you are. If you are ill and feverish with you pain, see your RL Gp and see if some antibiotics would help. There are plenty you can safely take in pregnany. Hope you feel better soon .

at annamama, holiday sounds fab! Hope you do not find coming back too much of a letdown...

Weather is absolutely stunning here in Scotland at the mo', I wish we'd had a bit more sunshine in the last 6 3 months, sigh... AND I have to work later on, 'tis not fair.

Caitni · 10/09/2009 11:43

Morning ladies

Just a flying visit to say hello before I head off to the States tonight - not back til 27th Sept, when I'll be nearly 18 weeks - woo hoo!

Hope everyone has a lovely few weeks and anyone still suffering with sickness feels better soon.

xxx

PS am loving Pacific's expertise . Also glad to hear of lovely Scottish weather. I did my degree in Aberdeen and I loved autumn up there...crisp sunny mornings (though those dark winters were a killer!)

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 10/09/2009 13:15

hi everyone just checking in,all good here heard lo's heartbeating away yesterday and it was lovely,

My DS also started school yesterday and loves it!!!! he went in all by himself today after telling me "mummy i am nearly 5- i can do it on my own"!!!!lol i am proud to say neither he nor i shed a tear, but i am a little sad that my first born is growing up and so quickly too!!!!!

hope everyone is well, very of those holidaying!!!!!! if only

swingsofglory · 10/09/2009 13:25

Can I just say at everyone who is having these lovely holidays. I WANT ONE!!!!

I think I need to add myself to the list of stressed and enraged people instead. It really doesn't take much to end up on the verge of tears at the moment... I'm hoping this will stop soon - I'm sure a holiday somewhere sunny would do the trick. Sigh.
