From another thread it looks like Picante is in labour, I wish her all the best.

Becks, have you made any choices yet about your birth?

Kitkat, haven't heard from you, are you and ds okay? My dd got a temperature last night and has been awake hourly wanting cuddles, think it's her teeth. I'm shattered but I was thinking of you and how exhausted you must be. We send hugs.

duchesse · 20/08/2009 10:11

Baby seems to have dropped down low this morning. Along with the show, a complete novelty, as all with three previous babies I went to labour from unengaged to labour by means of waters breaking. Will be interested to see if this one turns out to be a standard labour.

Chrysanthamum · 20/08/2009 10:23

Lucky you duchesse, sounds like you're nearly there. Good luck with it all. I'm due today with no 3. My other 2 came early with waters breaking and induction via a drip 24 hrs later so I'm a tad impatient. Head has been engaged 3/5 since week 36 and I've been getting b hicks for weeks now but nothing doing.

Anyone else getting fed up out there?

Chrysanthamum · 20/08/2009 10:43

Also I'm wondering are girls more likely to be late than boys or is it 50:50?
I'm also getting the odd trickle but don't know if its due to heat, leaking fluid or from the bladder. How can you tell and if it is fluid should i phone the hospital?

SmallScrewCap · 20/08/2009 10:59

Hello, can I join this as a latecomer? Due on 25th August!

Chrysanthamum Phone your midwife to check. What they can do is lie you flat on your back for about an hour and then assess what if anything is leaking out. I had this twice last week, was initially thought to be a watery show with possible slow puncture of waters, but 2 such tests 24 hours apart showed that nothing was leaking, thank goodness. If waters are going, it's important to know for sure.

Confuzzeled · 20/08/2009 11:44

Oooh Duch, hope you start soon.

Chrys, it can't hurt to phone and ask.

SSC, never too late to join, welcome.

duchesse · 20/08/2009 22:12

Still with child despite repeated admonishments to the little bugger to just.come.out.NOW!

Confuzzeled · 20/08/2009 22:58

So few of us still hanging in here waiting for the big event.

I'm getting a sweep tomorrow morning, better bloody work.

duchesse · 21/08/2009 03:23

I'm having another sweep tomorrow as well Confuzzeled. It had better blooming work. I mean obviously having babies early or on time is way overrated, but I don't especially want to be pregnant into September...

Chrysanthamum · 21/08/2009 04:45

I'm still here! Thanks for advice on leaking fluid. I phoned hospital and it doesn't sound too serious. i have my 40 week visit tomorrow anyway. I'll be 40 weeks + 1 grrr!
I cant sleep so am up guzzling rasp.leaf tea.

Our problem is that we both live far away from our families and have to rely on friends and neighbours for childcare when I go into hospital. It kind of means we cant have false alarms as we dont want to use up childcare favours. I wish this could be more predictable!

Good luck with sweeps tomorrow duchesse and confuzzeled

Chrysanthamum · 21/08/2009 04:50

Ps Congratulations to Picante.

Confuzzeled · 21/08/2009 07:11

I have good vibes for our sweeps today and it's all going to kick off by lunch time

I'd rather have a late baby, they're much less likely to get ill and feed better Thats what I keep telling myself anyway.

Chrys, we're in a similar situation, my parents live 2.5 hours away and dh's parents can't physically come down to us. My parents won't drive down when it's dark because the roads are so dangerous. I have 3 people locally on standby to look after my dd if I go into labour suddenly, but none of them have kids and I've no idea how they'll cope with my hurricane dd. My Mum is getting the train to visit me for the day today, just in case the sweep works. Knowing my luck I'll start just after she's got the train home

duchesse · 21/08/2009 09:22

Just had a midwife from the community team on the phone saying she's coming later and asking me why I want a sweep. WTF? She says they don't normally offer them until 41 weeks. Well, that's not what her colleagues have suggested. Apart from anything else, I may actually be 41+5 if you go by my dates...

YanknCock · 21/08/2009 11:21

duchesse, I was told the same thing about sweeps by the midwife in the day unit (not until 41 weeks), but when I saw the consultant at 39+1 she basically did one! And am positive one of the ladies I know from NCT class had one on her due date at the same hospital, so think it's dependent on who you get.

Went to hospital last night slightly terrified as baby had only moved once all day (and barely). Of course after we got there and I was hooked up to the monitor for 10 minutes, he started to wiggle around---naughty baby!

Could see from the machine I was having a lot of braxton hicks. Yesterday in Sainsbury's I had something that hurt a lot worse, stopped me in my tracks and had to stand a bit doubled over and just breathe for about a minute. Nothing like it since, but plenty of twinges every time I bloody move.

Results from my 24 hour urine collection still showing I have protein, and last night's BP readings at hospital weren't great, 153/93 at one point. Top number put down to stress, and they want me to come to the labour ward over the weekend to get checked again. Very tired and want it to all be over!

duchesse · 21/08/2009 11:25

Yank- it's a bit bizarre considering that the consultants were all for hoiking the poor little bugger out at 38 weeks due to my extreme age and the attendant risk of stillbirth... (which apparently goes from something like 1/700 to 1/550 as you pass 40)

duchesse · 21/08/2009 11:26

Oh that way that unborn babies have of worrying you? It's just the beginning I'm afraid... Glad the little bugger woke up and put your mind at rest!

VJaybigpants · 21/08/2009 12:57

When is it my turn????? I have 5 days to go, but ds was 18 days late, so I could still be pg in September gggrrrrrrrr

duchesse · 21/08/2009 13:02

VJ- I feel your pain... I might still be pregnant into September and I'm already past 40 weeks (don't like to call it "overdue"- psychological tricks and all that). Possibly even past 41 weeks. Even if I go to induction at 42 weeks, the infant might not make it until Sept 1st.

kitkatqueen · 21/08/2009 13:02

Hello, I'm briefly back online! Thanks for being worried, ds has been really not good. Temperature peaks of 41 and sudden drops down to 34.6 However his temp has been a bit more manageable with calpol etc, it just wasn't working before!

I managed to get him in with the gp this morning after another crappy night and just as I was about to leave the house my waters seem to have broken. So I had to high tail it to the docs and told them that if they kept me waiting for an hour and half today they would regret it

Ds seen by head of practise who actually found the problem - raging ear infection. Why oh why did they not spot that in a&e?????

Because I have group b strep delivery want me in at 6pm if contractions aren't forcing me in before hand, just really hoping it is my waters now and not me being otherwise leaky. So hopefully ds will respond to the anti b's now and at least I don't feel so bad leaving him with someone else now that we know whats wrong.

Off to bounce on my ball now. I'm pretty sure I know what sparked this off and it wasn't curry, pineapple or hanky panky.

Apparantly the trick to going into labour is to have a VERY large spider fall off the ceiling and down your cleavage. ( as you can tell i'm not having a good week) the incidental screaming, leaping about and waving of arms whilst trying to rip all your clothes off at the same time seems to be just the ticket. That was last night and I'm pretty sure that its what did the trick.

Last time I saw a spider that big and hairy it was in an aquarium!

Congrats to all the new mummys, Yank glad your lo got moving again my dd1 did that a lot when I was pregs, the midwives said that the sonic ping from the monitor was what got her moving again, considering how deeply she sleeps even now i'm sure they were right and she was just catching zeds but it really is worrying when they do that. Hopefully it means your babe will be able to sleep through anything!!

duchesse · 21/08/2009 13:07

pmsl laughing at the thought of kitkat giving birth in doc's waiting room... Did you tell them why you wanted to be seen so quickly? Very glad you've found the cause though. Why indeed did they not detect that in A & E?

duchesse · 21/08/2009 13:09

Oh, and very sorry about your spider woes, Kitkat. It must be the adrenaline that set off the labour I guess...

You will have so many stories to tell this little one about its birth...

kitkatqueen · 21/08/2009 13:24

Hi duchesse, Yes I did tell the "mrs ravens" at the docs why I wanted to be seen quickly - they said I'd better go home then(???) Good job the head of practise is absolutly lovely really. The m/w nearly phl at the spider story tho when I rang delivery. I'm kind of wishing I hadn't told her - her shift doesn't end till 7.30 and I will be in by 6pm. I'm sure she thinks i'm slightly bats anyway.

Humm ho!

Right! off to get the house straight and make up the cot! Hopefully I will have something to put in it soon!

ScummyMummy · 21/08/2009 14:40

lol @ the spider story, kitkat. Glad the dr has identified the reason for your little boy feeling so rough and that it sounds like he's on the mend now. good luck for labours coming soon, one and all!
