Longtalljosie · 09/08/2009 10:55

Tell you what quixotic, you have your baby today, and cairns and I will have ours tomorrow - how's that for a deal?

MrsThePoint · 09/08/2009 11:32

kitkatqueen I was in complete denial about labour until I felt her head! Hmmm! It was only 4 hours, even though mw said it was v. intense!

duchesse I like the nickname Flick, not so keen on Flea, but they make it their own name anyway. DS calls her Licity (leaves off the Fe) and so I've called her Lica a few times!

readyfornumber2and3 Sophie and Adam are lovely names.

duchesse · 09/08/2009 12:07

Mrs- At home we call her Fleecy, because that's what her brother interpreted her name as when she was born (he was just under 2yo).

ScummyMummy · 09/08/2009 12:23

Licity sounds cuuute, mtp! Nice that Duchesse has a Felicity too. And love Sophie and Adam as names as well, ready.

I'm 40 +3 today and still no signs apart from acute rock hard bump discomfort after dinner in the evenings, which I keep thinking is going to develop into labour but so far has not. Does anyone know when I should seek advice from GP/hospital re overdueness? I don't have another midwife appt booked yet as she's only at the GP surgery 1 day a week and is always fully booked, meaning that I've seen various different GPs for my last few check ups. None of them said what I should do in terms of booking another appt/what the induction policy is at my hospital/thinking about sweeps or anything like that. Have others had advice on this?

Longtalljosie · 09/08/2009 12:30

Different areas have different policies re. sweeps, induction etc. Do you have your midwife's number, perhaps she could call you to discuss? You could explain you've been unable to see her for a bit due to her being fully booked, she must be well aware she's oversubscribed...

ScummyMummy · 09/08/2009 12:47

I don't actually have her number, LTJ. Expect I could find it out- do you think I'd be better talking to her than to a GP? I don't really feel she's "my" midwife as such, even though she's very nice, as have only met her a few times at routine appts. I've seen (different) GPs just as often. I'm not even sure where she's based when she's not at the GP surgery, tbh.

mama2leah · 09/08/2009 14:56

quickly...
gal born friday 5lbs15...natural n very fast..i refused further induction after the gel...was 4 hours... from 6cm dilated to breathing her out in 5 mins....was QUICK!

cairns · 09/08/2009 15:03

scummymummy I would phone the hospital as they will advise best. I don;t always see my midwife either, as depends on how busy she is and often switch the appts to my GP.

Policy here is to see antenatal clinic at hospital (to see registrar/consultant) around due date (for me it was 40+2). They gave me a full MOT and did a sweep (although you don;t have to have this) and then my next check-up is again at the hospital clinic at due date plus one weekish (for me it will end up being 40+9). They will do another check-up and sweep and discuss induction options. So I guess in summary at the due date my midwife/GP care always transfers to the hospital antenatal clinic. But as LTJ said all areas are different.

cairns · 09/08/2009 15:04

Congrats mama2leah

kitkatqueen · 09/08/2009 15:05

mrsthepoint Thats what worries me - that I'll end up giving birth in the bath because I am still getting so many contractions I'm not going to believe i'm in labour till its too late.

Mama2leah!! Congratulations!!!!

Longtalljosie · 09/08/2009 15:54

Congratulations mama2leah! Scummymummy I'm actually thinking cairns has the better idea. Is there a number on the front of your maternity notes you could call? Our PCT policy is you see them around 40 weeks - but you don't get a sweep at that point, they'll only sweep you the week after.

Even a quick chat with someone at the day assessment unit or similar - with any midwife or even the receptionist on the Ante-Natal Unit - will tell you what the local policy is and then you'll know what's in store...

ScummyMummy · 09/08/2009 17:23

Congratulations, mama2leah. That was quick!

Thanks v much, LTJ and cairns. I think ringing the hospital is a really good plan. I'll call them tomorrow morning. There is a number for the labour ward on the front of my notes. I'll try googling for the right clinic but I'm sure someone will be able to put me through to ante-natal from there or reception.

craftynclothy · 09/08/2009 18:11

Orla Katherine born 15.59 08/08/09. Didn't get my homebirth but still a fantastic experience and got our lotus birth. Will post more details when my mw imposed 7 days of total bedrest are up and I can see what I'm typing!

btw Sheena's had hers too!

CoonRapids · 09/08/2009 18:24

ooh, lots of births happening thick and fast! All great news! I am 3 days overdue and the thought that could be in labour any time seems so unreal that we all went out this afternoon for a lovely walk round local National Trust garden. Didn't even take anything for protection in case of the waters breaking in the new car (that will take the 3 car seats just fine thank goodness). I did think it would be funny if I went into labour and had to be transported in one of those motorised buggies they have for oaps!

scummymummy- I was a bit at my midwife at my 38 week appt. She doesn't want to see me until 41 weeks but I'll actually be 41+6 by then due to the day of the week her clinic runs. I would have thought I should be seen before then if I go near 41 weeks. In our area 1st timers are seen at 38 weeks, 40 weeks and 41 weeks I think. But otherwise it's 38 and 41. There should be a local policy as the others suggest. Even the receptionists at your GP may have it or be able to check?

nellyup · 09/08/2009 19:17

Can't catch up just at the moment with all the new arrivals but congratulations to everyone who has had theirs and best wishes to those still waiting.

I finally had my little boy on 6th August - just before midnight. Very long drawn out birth process starting on Sunday night with me thinking this is it and ringing the hospital for the home birth midwife to come out. That petered out and to cut it all short ended up with a c-section because he was just too flippin big to come out naturally. Sorry to see you missed your homebirth too crafty but like you, I also had a fantastic birth experience, wierdly enough despite every medical intervention under the sun. 10 lb 14 oz he was! His name is Zac, and we're all home and enjoying getting to know each other.

BabyBump2B · 09/08/2009 21:31

Huge hugs and congratulations to mama2leah, craftynclothy and nellyup!

And lovely names all round!

Ready - my best friend's little girl is Sophie May as well and I adore it. We often call her "Sophie May" instead of just Sophie because it sounds SO fab!

Am loving all the announcements - even made me a bit teary but that must be because I'm due today! Funny look on the waitress' face today at brunch when she asked when I was due and I said 'Today!'

MrsThePoint · 09/08/2009 21:45

congrats all.

mama2leah · 09/08/2009 22:19

where is postnatal thread?
thanx all
x

ScummyMummy · 09/08/2009 23:40

Postnatal thread is here, mama2leah.

Many congratulations on Orla's safe arrival, crafty. I'm glad the birth went well, even if it wasn't at home as planned.

And nellyup! Well done on delivering the mighty Zac- what an amazing weight!

I had a beef rendang tonight in the hope that it would kickstart labour so that I wouldn't need to check out the local policy, coonrapids, but still nothing apart from an uncomfortable fullness thus far. It was rather yummy though.

Congratulations crafty and nellyup - wow! . Zac'll be straight into the 0-3 months clothes then!

Am now googling "lotus birth" - haven't heard of one of those...

HeinzSight · 10/08/2009 13:16

Massive congratulations to all the new mummies and babies , so happy for you all.

Just a quick update from me. I didn't feel v well yesterday evening, had a bad headache a visual disturbance so went in for monitoring. Turns out my BP is up a fair bit. They sent off some bloods and the results came back at 1am, fortunately my liver and kidney function is OK.

I have to go back in at 2:30 to be checked again. They've said if my BP is still up they may induce me

I'll keep you posted.

Rachel1963 · 10/08/2009 13:34

Many congrats to everyone who's had their baby already.

I'm a week overdue now. Had another scan today which shows the baby is fine so they're happy to wait till 42 weeks to induce me if I go that long. Also had a sweep and apparently I'm already 1cm dilated so I'm hoping desperately that that will have kick started things - if it doesn't I go back for another on Weds.

Feeling a bit happier today, despite being hot and huge - at least I know that it won't be longer than a week before we've got our baby. Bit taken aback though that they're predicting it will weigh at least 8lb 8oz and could be 8lb 15oz

YanknCock · 10/08/2009 13:42

Babies popping everywhere, congratulations everyone!

I threw up this morning (after 8 weeks vomit-free!) and was hoping that meant something was happening, but alas, nothing. Had accupuncture Friday and am going twice this week to see if that will get things going. I know I'm only 38 weeks, but am feeling quite miserable. Shrek feet, sausage fingers, gained 5 lbs this last week, painful BHs---I've had quite enough, thank you very much! My BP is still completely fine though.

trixymalixy · 10/08/2009 14:03

Congratulations to everyone who has popped!!!

I've been having contractions every 15 mins since about 3 am, got the birth pool nearly filled and had my TENS on for a couple of hours now and I think the contractions have stopped!!!!!! Haven't had one for a bout 1/2 an hour. Aaarrrrrrgh!!!!! Just want this over and done with.

Queenoftheharpies · 10/08/2009 14:23

Hi All,

I had a baby boy, Alexander Michael, on 29th July - a month ahead of schedule but 36+6 so only one day premature in the end.

He is fighting fit, and I'm relieved that I don't have to go through another 3 weeks of backache!
