Full moon effect lasts a few days? Cool! Well, it's my due date today and nothing to report. Feel a bit tired and irritable but am not convinced it's necessarily connected with imminent labour.

duchesse · 06/08/2009 11:50

I've started being less tired and begun "nesting". Have vacuumed and washed everything in the house in the last couple of days. Can't remember this happening until about 41 weeks with the others. Am wondering whether this one will come earlier than them.

MrsThePoint · 06/08/2009 14:52

Well third sweep and new full moon just caused sleepless night with contractions, cramps and backache - but am still waddling now! Had a couple more contractions out today at playgroup so a few friends started to get excited for me, but, again, they've calmed down! So a few ladies on here hoping for the full-moon effects which will also make hubbies happy with the 07/08/09 birthdate!

Can I just say Babycat careful with raspberry leaf, it strengthens the uterus so that contractions are stronger in labour (as Crafty said) but I have been told by my mw that as I had an abruption last time powerful contractions might aggravate my uterus, in which case, while annoying, this very slow pre-labour stage, with gradually increasing contractions, is actually better for my body and my baby. Fast, strong contractions and a quick birth is not always a good thing, though it may sound like it is. You might not know what underlying potential weakness your uterus/placenta etc. have and raspberry leaf is a form of intervention, just as prostin induction is. However, it is a homeopathic intervention and not artificial chemicals. Just my two-pence worth.

Hope everyone is as comfortable as can be expected! Rest if you!

cairns · 06/08/2009 16:24

Well just back from the hospital for my 'due date check-up'. Had an internal and a sweep (ouch and still hobbling) and they said not anytime soon as baby's head is way too high up etc....

so still waiting...... felt grumpy so DH has just come back with another pineapple and some chillis to make an extra hot curry for tonite....

Still getting at least 2 phonecalls a day with MIL being the worst cuplrit of wanting to know if there are 'any signs'. DH doesn;t understand why i get annoyed and keep letting the phone go to answer phone as "they only care about you" ...while I somewhat agree with that they are also being nosey and gossiping with all of their friends/rest of extended family too... OK grump over....

YanknCock · 06/08/2009 16:54

These fecking Braxton Hicks are driving me mental. Every step I take feels like someone is zapping my cervix with a cattle prod. Theoretically I could have another 4 weeks of this crap! Aughhhhh!!!!! Get out, baby!

Having a bit of chest pain and wondering if this is the 'epi-gastric pain' I'm supposed to phone them about if it happens. Had BP monitoring earlier today and it was fine, though protein still at 2+. Will wait and see if it gets worse or goes away. I'm so sick of wasting all my money in the hospital's car park. £2 minimum every time!

trixymalixy · 06/08/2009 17:17

Went for a sweep this morning and boy was it sore. She couldn't really reach properly and I had to ask her to stop. She said my cervi wasn't soft at all so we decided to leave things and try again on Wednesday and again on Friday if nothing happens.

Now bleeding slightly which I think (hope) is normal.

Our plumber is now nearly at the end of the 3rd week of re-doing our en-suite. It should have taken less than 2 weeks to do it and the utility and the utility isn't even started and the en-suite is nowhere near. Starting to get really pissed off with it all, he's just so laid back.

The midwife thinks the adrenaline from stressing about it is stopping me going into labour.

Longtalljosie · 06/08/2009 17:48

Could you tell him to bugger off after doing the en suite and get someone else to do the utility - have them back after you've dropped?

Is the bleeding normal? Might be worth ringing your midwife to check...

readyfornumber2and3 · 06/08/2009 17:55

Just wanted to let you know my birth announcement.

Went in to hospital yesterday at 09:00 as arranged, only to sit there until nearly 11:30. The midwife managed to break my waters and advised we went on a nice stroll to get things going. 14:30 nothing was moving so they put in the drip. Lots more waiting around and finally started getting contractions about 16:45 and they came thick and fast. 17:30 came with just us and the midwife in the room and I warned her it wasn't going to be long. 17:39 baby girl was here! Weighing 6 lb 1/2 oz. They quickly put the scanner on me to find that baby 2 was breech but they were happy for me to try and deliver naturally. 17:45 major gush of second waters (I think I soaked everyone in the room) and suddenly 2 feet popped out. 17:52 baby boy safely delivered weighing 7 lb 2 1/2 oz.

Both are feeding really well and we came home this afternoon. Looking forward to getting to know them and choosing some names. Hope everyone else is OK and it won't be too long for you.

craftynclothy · 06/08/2009 18:12

Congratulations Ready!

sheenaisapunkrocker · 06/08/2009 18:29

Congratulations Ready Cairns - I have ignored yet another text from my friend asking yet again if there are "any signs". Why is that such an annoying phrase? I really want to say "what, like labour? No, not yet and if I am in labour I will not be ringing anyone except my midwife" grump grump grump

Longtalljosie · 06/08/2009 18:33

Congratulations Ready!

quixotic · 06/08/2009 19:11

Congratulations Ready!

BabyBump2B · 06/08/2009 19:14

Congrats Ready! Can't wait to find out their names!

I'm in a foul mood (sorry). I'm 39+4 and offered a stretch and sweep this morning at midwife appointment. Wasn't sure if I should go for it or not because I didn't want to be disappointed if I wasn't dilated but decided that at least it would probably move my body in the right direction. She checked baby's position first and said I'm -1 engaged but when she was trying the sweep she could barely reach my cervix because its posterior. So no idea how/if I'm dilated and no sweep because she couldn't reach. Now feel like bursting into tears.

I'm so uncomfortable and every step is so painful and feels like my pelvic bones are being ripped apart.

Sorry to whinge but the last few days have been so emotional and tiring and I feel less and less like I can do this with each day that passes.

ScummyMummy · 06/08/2009 20:14

How fantastic, ready. Brilliant weights and sounds like a great birth too! So pleased for you. Enjoy them.(I feel all nostalgic. Baby twins are amazing.)

Sorry things are tough, BB2B and yank. It is hard once you start expecting them any minute, especially if you're feeling tired and grumpy and uncomfortable. Chins up, all- we can't stay pregnant forever, even if it is later than we'd like when we eventually deliver.

OonaghBhuna · 06/08/2009 20:18

Congratulations ready fantastic news and they are both brill weights.

trixymalixy · 06/08/2009 20:31

Congrats ready!!!! You must have been exhausted carrying those two about!!! What great weights for twins.

longtalljosie it is a mate that is doing the work, he is doing it really well and is really cheap so can't really tell him to bugger off. he is just so slow and any other time it wouldn't matter that much, but he doesn't seem to sense the urgency!!

babybump I can totally empathise after my failed sweep this morning. at least i have stopped bleeding now!

noodle12 · 06/08/2009 20:32

Hi there girls.

Sorry haven't posted for months and months.

Just to let you know I had a little girl on 23rd July - 2 weeks early - 7lbs 13oz and all going very well (apart from the lack of sleep!!!)

Good luck to everyone and hope your birth is as quick as mine - less than an hour from first contraction to last big push ! What a shock!

Longtalljosie · 06/08/2009 20:41

Congratulations Noodle! Blimey, that was insanely quick - did you have a home birth organised, or did you just get one anyway?!

Trixy - ah right... tricky one then. What will he do if you drop, will he take a few days off to give you some time to yourself?

kitkatqueen · 06/08/2009 21:53

Trixy - any bleeding at all and you are supposed to ring it in. If I was you I would ring delivery suite - even if it has stopped. Better safe than sorry.

Ready, Congratulations!! That was a lovely birth story, so pleased it was so straight forward for you ( or as labour can be ).

All best wishes and looking forward to hearing their names.

Many congratulations, Noodle. I'm stunned at how quickly your baby arrived! Was it v intense?

kitkatqueen · 06/08/2009 22:23

Big congrats noodle12

babycat · 06/08/2009 22:35

Congratulations to the new arrivals ! I think I'll give the raspberry leaf a miss. I guess the baby will come when it's ready!

Still not agreed any names with DH and anything I think of which I like seems to be really popular in the statistics and I don't want the child to be one of several with the same name in school. It's such a big decision to choose a name.

elkiedee · 06/08/2009 23:51

Congratulations to another April 2007 mum - 3HotCrossBuns - as well as the other new arrivals.

Uki · 07/08/2009 03:10

*Noodle Congrat's and welcome to your baby girl

Ready Well done and CONGRATULATIONS that sounds like a great birth for twins, and a great healthy size. I can't believe you've gone home already, you sound fighting fit.

It was the most beautiful full moon here last night. If any babies come you might have to give them a moon type name, like mine
it means moon godess (Selena)
