Hi all x

Rang the hospital and I have to be in for 9am now so am just having breakfast and chilling out for half an hour.
Cant believe that I may be in labour today

Yankncock Yes you can have contractions before a show I dont remember having any BH with my DS so may have assumed the same as you lol
Some women get really tired for a few days then have an energy spurt so maybe things are starting for you

Hope everyone else is ok and hope to see some more birth announcements when I return

cairns · 05/08/2009 07:56

Good luck ready hope things go well
Yank yes you can have contractions 1st before anything else. I did with DS1 (although had 2 days of them)

Nothing happening here now, probably was just a load of sucessive BH's. I think because DS1's labour started like that I was getting a tad too hopeful. Have convinced DH to work from home today though for the rest of this week, which has made me feel a lot better. As yesterday had to phone him to 'warn him' that something was up, but was unsure, so feel better at not having to phone him at work with false alarm signals.

Have my hospital appt and sweep tomorrow, on the full moon, so hoping that will kick things off too

mamamila · 05/08/2009 08:53

morning!

good luck readyfor and yank, is this a rush of labours and births coming on...

i started with contractions with ds no other signs.

had a horrible sleepless night lots of tortuous turning but dd slept through in her own bed till 7 which is wonderful.

starting to panic we don't have everything we need, but by the looks of dark clouds our picnic will be called off today so going to do a last round of online shopping. stil v pissed off about the carrycot

babycat · 05/08/2009 10:30

Not posted on here for ages but have been lurking. Congratulations to those whose little ones have already arrived.

Pretty uneventful pregnancy since a little bleeding in the first trimester. Due on 14th (LMP date) or 15th August (scan date). Apart from some strange sort of tingling/stinging sensation occasionally in my cervix, no signs of anything happening yet. MIL arriving tomorrow evening so she is here to look after DD when I go into labour, so don't want to go overdue as don't want her staying for too long! That sounds really ungrateful but we have a really small house and I'm not good at being sociable at the best of times and like my own space.

I have quite a bit of hip pain when I've been sitting down for a while and when I get up they make a cracking sign so I'm feeling really old (don't know if it's mild SPD, it doesn,t bother me that much)!

Getting a bit anxious about the labour now. Had 2nd degree tear with DD and it has never really been right since (TMI ) and really worried it's going to hurt even more when I get to the pushing stage. Not as fit as I was prior to having DD over 2.5 years ago so a bit worried about how I'll cope. I don't really feel emotionally prepared for having this baby yet. It was a shock pregnancy as DD was the result of fertility treatment and we didn't think we could have a natural pregnancy. Really excited but haven't really got my head round the fact we're going to have another little one in a week or so.

Sorry if this post is a bit "me,me,me" but it helps to offload on here .

Uki · 05/08/2009 11:11

yankin, I have had lots of nights like that in late pg with my dc's lots of movement and bh together. it's quite uncomfortable and gives you a taste of labour. Although you will know it's real labour when it keeps progressing and getting stronger and stronger...and stronger. it's horrible not knowing how it will all start, but try and relax and rest if you can.

babycat i remember feeling like you too, hugely unprepard for my 2nd and worried about my first born, but it was easier to cope than i thought.

Has anybody thought/heard of using a warm wet towel/compress on their perinium during labour, I swear by it have never torn outside and used this for all 3 pg's

sheenaisapunkrocker · 05/08/2009 13:02

afternoon all,

lontalljosie and babycat - I'm having a really emotional day today too; really tearful and blue, worrying if I can cope and thinking I've made a big mistake. Perhaps it's the hormones? [hopeful emoticon]

Yank - I've been having loads of Braxton hicks and runs of mild contractions for days now and haven't had a show either. My midwife says this is dead normal and lots of people never see anything at all.

Uki - the compress idea sounds good. Although I'm planning a water birth I will keep this in mind in case I'm not in the pool at the point of birth. I've been told that being in the pool can reduce tears as the warm water relaxes and softens the tissues, so it makes sense that a compress would do the same thing.

mama2leah · 05/08/2009 13:26

i dont know what to do..
reduce growth to a/c for the past few weeks, and the doppler and diastolic flow is normal but RI above 95 centile for gestational age..said if i dont get induce today will have a still born.

im 39+2

monkeyfeathers · 05/08/2009 14:31

To echo what everyone has said on the other threads mama2Leah, just go in an be induced and enjoy your baby. At 39+2 the baby is not even close to being premature (I'm 39+1 and would love to have mine tomorrow, not today however as I don't want him to share a birthday with my sister).

Hawkmoth · 05/08/2009 15:05

Agree mama2leah. Induction isn't always horribly painful. I didn't think I was in established labour until I started pushing! The SPD will make your pelvis more flexible, and the pain of turning over in bed with SPD is worse than labour I think!

With my induction, and worse SPD than this time, I had two co-codamol and a few minutes of gas and air. This time I've got Co-Dydramol and will have G&A if they bring it in time.

Will be thinking of you today and tonight.

mayl · 05/08/2009 16:15

Avid lurker here and feel like I know you all but haven't posted for ages so apologies.

Just to add to the list that Arabella (Bella) was born by C section on the 28th. All good aside the normal gripes that come with a new baby but I had almost forgotton what the nights are like and they are taking some getting used to!

Congrats to all and good luck to those who are still waiting.

elkiedee · 05/08/2009 17:44

Just looking in to say good wishes to crafty - our first babies were due in the same month though mine didn't arrive until May. Good luck to everyone still waiting. I'd forgotten how annoying those last few days are (both mine were more than a week late).

duchesse · 05/08/2009 18:01

Husband came home sick from work today at 3. He is not a malingerer (has had less than 7 days off in 20 years at his place of employment), and various colleagues of his have piggy flu. I fear he may have it too. What are my chances of catching it from him before this baby comes? 38 +3 today...

Longtalljosie · 05/08/2009 18:07

Not everyone who's a piggy flu statistic really has it - as they're not swabbing any more duchesse. What's his temperature - is it over 38?

sheena - I'm hoping it means something too - something other than I'm a tearful idiot I mean! Although it could also be lack of sleep, which always makes me a bit of a mess...

MakkaPakkasWilly · 05/08/2009 18:28

I have just been sitting here bawling my eyes out... apparently I had an 'abruption', I didn't know what this was and I just looked it up.
here

I just shat myself with relief I suppose, I have been crying ever since that both me and DS2 are sitting here and we are ok.

Off to join PN thread.
Good luck ladies x

Longtalljosie · 05/08/2009 18:54

Oh bless you Makka - try not to think about it too much. As you say, you're both here and both fine xx

CoonRapids · 05/08/2009 20:08

Hi and congratulations to everyone that's had their baby already. I'm due tomorrow so seems likely this will be my 3rd overdue pregnancy. Ds was induced at 41 wksand dd came at 41+2. Remembering how annoying it is to be waiting around...Haven't posted much recently, think at this stage I'm like a cat that wants to hide away until the birth is over! Good luck to everyone though.
TOTC/Coon

elkiedee · 05/08/2009 20:33

Hope whatever's up with your dh soon gets better duchesse, and that you're ok (I know you were on a thread with me for a while too).

Longtalljosie · 05/08/2009 20:56

So, then ladies... tonight's the full moon...

It must work for one of us, surely?!

MrsThePoint · 05/08/2009 21:19

MakkaPW ? I had an abruption with DS, and had section, but remember don?t always trust wikipedia! Abruption can be serious, but all is well now, thankfully, for both you and I.

Called DH yesterday to tell him was getting more contractions (have been getting them all week) and his work colleagues and boss convinced him baby was coming and he drove home in a panic and in excitement, only to be disappointed. Hey-ho! But have had third sweep today, and with full moon hoping it?ll kick off tonight, but not confident. DH now wants baby to come on Friday as it?s birthday will be 07/08/09. Hmm!

Longtalljosie · 06/08/2009 06:30

No joy here. Baby still firmly in place. Although I did have a couple of pains last night which I think could have been contraction-related. They didn't come to anything though.

MrsThePoint - I'm rather taken with that as a date of birth! You must admit, it would be quite cool...

babycat · 06/08/2009 09:27

No joy with the full moon here! Thanks for the emotional support yesterday girls .

Has anyone tried raspberry leaf capsules? What exactly do they do to help bring on labour? Do they work? Where do I buy them from? I'm 39 weeks on Saturday is it too late to start taking them & what dose would I take?

Should be getting off here & getting ready to go out as going to a friend's house this morning and then have to make sure house is spick & span for MIL's arrival this evening .Got midwife appointment tomorrow. She did say last week that she hoped not to see me - 7/8/09 would be a cool birthdate!

craftynclothy · 06/08/2009 09:44

Babycat - raspberry leaf tablets don't help labour to start. They help to tone the uterus so that contractions are more effective during labour, and so labour should be shorter. Ideally you should start taking them from 34 weeks-ish.

Nothing here either, though tbh I don't want it to be born today cos it's MIL's birthday .

Mrsthepoint - dh also thinks it would be 'cool' for baby to be born tomorrow so it's dob is 07/08/09. It's also my mum's birthday though so would probably just annoy mil if it's born then.

Picante · 06/08/2009 09:48

Long term lurker here...

Asked about the full moon on another thread this morning - apparently the effects can last for 2 days so hopefully it should work for me someone!

Longtalljosie · 06/08/2009 10:12

Ah excellent Picante - there's hope for us yet!

Babycat - try Holland and Barrett or similar. I inherited mine from a friend who's had her baby but I warn you, there's a label on them and seemingly they're about a tenner . Mind you, everything baby-related is expensive...

craftynclothy · 06/08/2009 11:11

Oops, missed the bit about where to buy RLT. I got mine from an independent health shop type of place. Mine were £5.69 for 60 tablets.
