Yes, I know what you mean about the sleeping. I can sleep on my side but I have to turn every so often and it's agony turning. I keep waking dh cos I grab hold of him to pull myself over .

Totally fed up of phonecalls too. My mum phones at least once a day. My aunty phones every 2-3 days. All they keep asking is "Any sign? Any twinges?" Tbh I don't even know what they mean by twinges...I have normal pregnancy aches & pains as well as spd so don't think I'd notice anything else. Also most things like BH's etc don't mean your about to go into labour. Mind you mum hasn't phoned yet (she usually rings at 9.30) so am kinda tempted to phone her saying "OMG is everything ok? No-one's died have they? Why haven't you phoned me yet today?"

Anyone else wondering if they'll know when they're in labour? Last time my waters broke first so am wondering if I'll know if it just starts with contractions.

duchesse · 30/07/2009 10:43

crafty- I'm wondering exactly the same thing about the start of labour! All three of the last labours started with waters going, so am really not that confident of being able to distinguish bog standard BH from actual labour. At least when your waters have gone and you start getting pains, you know it must be labour...

duchesse · 30/07/2009 10:46

Oh, and I've been sleeping on my side since about month 4- I find I get really breathless lying on my back for any length of time. The hips are a killer. In fact, so bruised are mine that I put one of our camping rolls of foam over the top of our orthopaedic mattress at the weekend. I actually have visible bruises on my thighs and hips but can't remember if it was from walking into things or just from lying for too long on the same side.

37 +3 and counting.

sheenaisapunkrocker · 30/07/2009 11:02

Hi Crafty [waves]
I keep getting asked about "twinges" too - no idea what people want me to say about this either! With increasing futility I just keep saying "no sign yet, I will let you know"

MakkaPakkasWilly · 30/07/2009 12:24

I am glad I am not alone on the side sleeping thing - honestly it's agony, after I wake up I feel like I have been in a fight.

My first was not like this!

MakkaPakkasWilly · 30/07/2009 12:41

Oh and as for the people asking 'how will I know I am in labour?'

My waters didn't go.

YOU JUST KNOW!

quixotic · 30/07/2009 14:17

Hello All, I have been lurking.

Finished work last week and spent a few days with my Mum, then she came here for a few days, then it was my birthday. Today is my first day at home, scrubbing the bathroom floor and washing the baby bits with no-one around - LOVELY! I know what you mean about people calling, my Mum has been gone for three days and she is calling me at least twice a day! Goodness knows what it will be like as we get closer.

37 weeks today - bring it on, I say. Feel the same about sleeping - if I a not getting up to go to the loo I am getting up to walk around as it hurts to lay down for too long.

Hawkmoth · 30/07/2009 17:32

Congratulations Marine!

Aches and pains - balls to them. Am quite grumpy!

Was up from 0330 - 0530 today with more WARM UP CONTRACTIONS (they ARE useful, they are NOT pointless). Also had a couple of whoppers for which I have had to circle the room doing pervert-phone-breathing.

Since baby's head is now surprisingly engaged and MW confident it could be any time, I am trying my very best to be optimistic... and not a complete bitch to DP.

VJaybigpants · 30/07/2009 17:47

Lol hawkmoth at being a complete bitch to dh. I said so my sil the other day that dh isn't that excited, and she did point out that all he can see is me getting bigger and bigger, moodier and moodier and bitchier and bitchier...I can see her point. Poor dh

MakkaPakkasWilly · 30/07/2009 19:06

I appear to be in labour.

Either that or am having some very convincing BH's.

Hawkmoth · 30/07/2009 19:14

Ooooh that's exciting MPW!!! Sending you lots of cervix-opening vibes.

The men have noone to blame but themselves. DP is being deliberately smelly, fidgety, noisy when asleep and unable to follow VERY CLEAR instructions. Ok... it's definitely me.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 30/07/2009 19:18

Thanks Hawkmoth.

Just timing them now. They are certainly regular, but I have my doubts as they just don't seem painful ENOUGH, IYSWIM.

duchesse · 30/07/2009 19:25

Go Makka, go Makka.

Hawkmoth- at least your husband didn't just potentially write off your 2 year old car by filling the diesel tank with petrol. Howzat for annoying?

craftynclothy · 30/07/2009 19:31

Good luck Makka

Grr at you dh duchesse

cairns · 30/07/2009 19:39

Woohoo .. good luck Makka...

Hawk I am with you with the deliberately smelly and noisy DP. I am sure my sense of smell is quite acute now, but DH ain't half annoying too, especially when I am up half the night either thinking about or actually going to the loo. Although duchesse destroying your car when you are due probably takes some beating....

quixotic · 30/07/2009 21:15

OH - Good Luck Makka !

trixymalixy · 30/07/2009 21:23

Congratulations to the new arrivals.

Good luck makka.

We've had a couple of false alarms, most notable of which was the Monday before last, the day our plumber ripped out our en suite.

At 3 in the morning I was having contractions every 1/2 hour or so. i had a panic that the plumber hadn't switched the water back on so we wouldn't be able to fill the birthing pool so woke DH up to go and check. The plumber hadn't switched the water back on properly despite us asking to make sure so poor Dh was up in the loft trying to work it out.

he was most displeased when we woke the next morning and I hadn't had any more contractions!!!!

readyfornumber2and3 · 30/07/2009 22:06

Hi all x

MPW Hope your silence means that you were in labour and that you are doing well

I went to see the consultant this afternoon and she did an internal and said that my cervix was favourable but she has booked me in to be induced next wednesday if things dont kick off naturally
I thought things may have been starting this morning as I woke up to a biit of a show and had some period type pains but it all stopped and then obviously the consultant said that nothing has happened

I am very excited and scared that I could be meeting my babies this time next week

Hope everyone else is doing well x

kitkatqueen · 31/07/2009 00:43

oooh fingers crossed makka!!!!

BabyBump2B · 31/07/2009 00:44

Hi All!

Martine - congrats on Oliver!

Makka I was going to swat you for the "you'll just know" comment about labour. (If one more person tells me that I might go insane!) but given that you just know you're in labour then I'll forgive you and cheer you on from the sidelines!

Well I know you are having a crappy summer in the UK but we hit 38 degrees yesterday which is about 10 degrees hotter than normal and really too damn hot. I woke up in the night thinking my water had gone only to realise it was sweat - SO GROSS!

I can't believe its August in a few days! Bring on the babies!

BabyBump2B · 31/07/2009 00:46

Oh oh oh and I wanted to share this website you can all send to everyone who's bugging you about whether or not you've had the baby:

www.haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com/

MakkaPakkasWilly · 31/07/2009 08:12

No birth.
Contractions remained regular for HOURS but I knew it wasn't happening because they just didn't hurt enough. My breathing was regular despite them and I know from last time if you can still breathe easy, they're not real

Bugger!

hencath · 31/07/2009 09:03

Hi all,

How disappointing Makka. I woke at just before 1am last night to a pain I wasnt familiar with. Felt like someone was pouring hot water down my back whilst having the worst stitch all over my tummy. It was very painful so much so DP woke to my breathing loud and fast. Was fairly convinced it could be a contraction but then nothing - just BHs!! So dissapointing. The only twinges Ive had since are those horrid shooting pains down below. Does this sound like the kind of pain contractions give? I have also woken up to enormous boobs so think my body is just warming up - I just wish it would hurry up.

Im starting to think that pregnancy is some horrid trick and that there isnt really a baby and that Ill just get more and more pregnant. I just cant imagine not being pregnant now and am thoroughly p*ssed off. Just have to keep reminding myself only 12 days till due date (not thinking about going overdue - will cross that bridge when I come to it).

After I had the 'contraction' episode I lay thinking whilst waiting (hoping) for the next that actually I wasnt quite ready for the baby as I hadnt put the bath changer together yet, then started to consider if the contractions continued I could always put the changer together during the contractions - mental!! DP also admitted to me this morning that he kept worrying that he hadnt hoovered and cleaned the car out yet (have been hastling him for ages) but is now going to do it tonight. Bless him.

Nothing like a mini scare to make you sort everything out. Think I will also test the Tens machine out too, I havent yet taken it out of its pouch.

Sending baby cooked vibes to all .

YanknCock · 31/07/2009 09:11

Sorry to hear no joy there, MPW.

I got a night's reprieve from heartburn for my birthday yesterday, which was lovely! Wasn't expecting it after eating a big steak and drinking a glass of red wine, but against the odds I didn't wake up with that horrid burning sensation even once. Maybe I've found a cure?

Went to lunch with some of the NCT class, and one lady's waters broke while we were eating! Fortunately her husband had come with her, and we were all digging around in our handbags for sanitary towels. Hoping to hear some good news today.

All of a sudden, my nipples hurt really really bad, anyone else having this? The bra is unbearable, the seat belt keeps scraping them, and I feel like screaming!

Off to my first of four BP monitoring sessions over the next two weeks. Is it wrong to hope something happens so they have to induce me early?

MakkaPakkasWilly · 31/07/2009 09:18

Yank - yes about the nips.
Odd question here though - do they change colour when they hurt?? Ie, go blue/purple/white?

Hencath, no those pains don't sound like contractions (but hey you never know!)
Generally they are like a really bad tight period pain.
