I'm still here as well and as my due date isn't til 27th so will prob be here for a while!

Saw midwife yesterday who said because my dates are slightly earlier than the hosp dates (23rd as opposed to 27th) that we could compromise and I can go to the drop in ante-natal for a sweep on my due date and then she will do one 3 days later. From DS1 I don't think they will normally do sweep until a few days after due date so at least she listening to me. Obviously it would just be a lot easier if baby decided to come sooner

Have tickets for Harry Potter tomorrow night so that might make something happen you never know!!

hobbgoblin · 17/07/2009 22:31

hello everyone - congratulations on all the new babies!

I had my little boy on 15 July - normal delivery after c-section with ds1, everything went great

he was 8lb 2oz and we've named him Roman (dh got his way in the end!). you wonder if you'll feel the same about your second child as you do about your first but we're all completely in love with him - I can't stop looking at him

got home yesterday and spent today trying to stop ds1 flinging all his cars and trucks on top of the baby in his pram - it's going to be interesting with two of them...

good luck to everyone still waiting
xoxo

Congratulations Mavornia, great news. Glad you got the birth you wanted too.
I am soooo bored and grumpy now. Maternity leave seems to have been going on forever and I feel useless and a waste of space and totally fed up with waiting and fed up with the inside of my house too! Childminder on hols for 3 wks from tomrrow, which is my due date so DH was supposed to be on paternity leave to cover the 2 days a week DD goes to childminder, but looks like it'll be me singlehandedly trying to keep her entertained while going more overdue and being bigger and crosser by the day,
Ggggrrrr [grumpy pissed off too-pregnant lady emoticon].
Anyone else this unreasonably cross with the situation or able to cheer me up?!

krumbockmummy · 19/07/2009 17:07

congratulations to rubyriley, Patchy, ActivityApple, Bozette, JetLi, mickeylou, alibobble, moodylou and Mavornia (sorry if i have missed any one)cant keep up with you all. 39 wks monday so looking forward to that but am also a grumpy pissed off too pregnant lady.

Husband had a small car crash, a Daddies little girl in a land rover wasnt paying any attention and went straight in to the bk of our car. Over £1200 worth of damage and cant get in to the bout which is not very handy with 8 days to go. But at least the father was nice and asked us for a quote which he then wrote us out a cheque for the full amount To us that is our budget for a mth but to others its just loss change, but glad it was sorted so quickly. And also the husband fell off his push bike and damaged his shoulder luckily not broken but signed to light duties at the fire station so is not being very helpful around the house. And DD nursery school has just had their 1st case of swine flu Grrrr

Only have until i am 41 wks then they will be cutting me open again so really not happy about that. Think thats it of the preggie lady rant!!

Tay1981 · 19/07/2009 20:40

Hi everyone - just to let you all know I had my little girl on the 15th July at 10.06am - a whopping 9lbs 7oz and absolutely perfect! Her name is Olive Grace.

Labour was I have to say a pretty horrible experience - waters went at 2am Tues and contractions started an hour later so 27 hours in total - then all ended with a emergency c-section. However she is here safely and is robustly healthy so I am happy with that and I am starting to feel a little less like I've been run over by a steam train. Unfortunately I have stitches down below too as they tried to use the ventouse as well as a very bruised back after two a bruised back after a failed epidural and then spinal for c-section. Like I said tho I am just relieved she is happy she is here safely. Midwives / Docs had husband stressed to the max because they were very concerned about her constantly dipping heart rate but turned out in the end that she had her foot in the cord!!!

Congrats to all the others who have given birth since I've been away and commiserations to all those still waiting - I was v impatient and grumpy too.

BonzoDoodah · 19/07/2009 21:46

Congraulations Mavornia - glad you managed a VBAC. What I wanted but it is not to be

Tay sounds a bit gruesome but you're right - so glad you're both okay at the end of it all. Congratulation!

Krumbock what a nightmare for your DH. Double whammy! And I can't imagine Daddy's girl and just handing over all that money!!!

Belgrano chin up and try chocolate

We've had a family day out. We made it special as it was the last weekend for DD as an only child. Had a lovely day at an Otter Sanctuary seeing lots of animals and getting soaked to the skin. Oh but it stayed dry for our picnic so it was super.

JetLi · 19/07/2009 23:18

A week on I guess I better post a bit of a birth story. So last Saturday night we went for the traditional shag and a curry (in that order) and I woke up about 5:30 on the sunday morning with a wee bit of crampy pain. Took 2 paracetomol and went back to sleep and woke at 10am with pains again and a wee bit of a show. Bit of a stop/start day (the roast pork dinner was another story). On the birthing ball through the TDF stage review and Top Gear, at which point I sent DP to bed to get some kip. I bounced around on the ball, with the TENS machine on and listened to the hypnobirthing CD over and over again. DP got up about 1:30am and we rang triage who said to pop along and get checked out. On arrival, (with an obscene amount of luggage!) we were in the assessment room with another couple, but the lady was only 25 weeks pregnant and in labour so by the time they got to me, my BP was 165/107 because I'd gotten a good deal upset for her. Then they did an exam to find I was a paltry 2cm dilated and not fully effaced. I think at this point if my BP had been normal they would've sent me home, but they let me hang around at the hospital. They brought a birthing ball and a rocking chair which was surprisingly soothing during the contractions, which were coming every couple of minutes and lasting a couple of minutes, so not much respite. About 5am they moved us to a delivery room so I could get in a bath, and DP rubbed my back with some clary sage. After a bit I got out and went back on the ball in my nightie. They came to examine me about 6am and as I got up my waters went. The waters had old meconium in them so sadly the water birth immediately went out the window. They did another assessment and I really wasn't much further on. Because of the meconium, we had to go on a monitor which sadly meant I was flat on my back. Martina the midwife came on shift at 7am and had a chat with us about taking some morphine so that's what we did - it took the edge off and made me feel sleepy between the contractions. Because of the meconium we had to move to Consultant Led from Midwife Led so that's what happened next. Sadly then, more waters came and more meconium, so this basically meant the monitor was staying on and I was staying in the stranded crab position until further notice. Progress consequently was extremely slow and we opted for an epidural at lunchtime on the Monday. What a relief!!! It was truly amazing. Within an hour I was brushing my teeth and my hair and feeling altogether more human. By 2pm I was 5 cm dilated and my BP was at last coming down. They put up an induction drip to speed things up a bit at 3pm, and kept monitoring. Hetty was wriggling around so they kept losing the heartbeat so at 4pm I volunteered for a scalp clip to get a good reading on her. Her heartrate kept dipping to 80/90-ish and also racing up over 160bpm so this meant everyone was starting to get a bit concerned and DP & I realised we could be looking at the baby coming out of the sun-roof. They periodically increased the induction drip and kept monitoring, but did seem to get increasingly concerned. At 6:30 they examined me again to find I was finally fully dilated but Hetty hadn't turned her head. At this point all hell broke loose, but in a good way, to get us down to theatre to try a vaginal delivery assisted with forceps, to be swiftly followed by an ECS if it failed, so the epi was topped up and DP had scrubs thrown at him. We were down in theatre within minutes and Hetty Florence was born with 3 pushes, assisted with forceps at 6:45pm on the 13th July 2009
We didn't know if we'd got a pink one or a blue one for a good little while whilst they checked her over. Her APGARS were 9 & 9 so that was brilliant. They had needed to do an episiotomy to get the forceps in so I have a few stitches and then we got some time alone to enjoy our new daughter, who had weighed in at 8lb 6oz.
All in all, we would say we had a brilliant birth experience - Martina the midwife came to us at 7am and didn't leave us until after 7:30pm that evening - she literally only left us for half an hour to get some lunch, and was a constant support for us all - we couldn't have asked for more. Although everything went a bit pear-shaped, especially at the end, it was all done with such humour and with a great sense of happy excitement that it really wasn't remotely traumatic at all. And I'd do it all again tomorrow because our daughter is beautiful

For all the first-timers (like I was) and for what it's worth, here is my advice:
o Don't rule out any form of pain relief - when they described the epidural in the ante-natal classes I honestly thought I would throw up or pass out. When I got one I could've wept with relief!
o Curry and shagging does work
o If you're still waiting, learn how to use your steriliser - it's really very stupid to try and read the instructions for the first time at 2am on the first night at home with a screaming baby - it's even more annoying to find out you have to sterilise the steriliser the first time you use it - it very nearly got launched out of the kitchen window
o Even when you're breastfeeding on demand, keep track of when you feed because the midwife will ask you how often/how long etc. even though its demand feeding - write it down!
o Midwife will also want to know number of wet/dirty nappies on the first few days - write it down because it's impossible to remember.
o NEVER run up the stairs in a panic with an episiotomy.

JetLi I enjoyed reading your birth story - it's cheared me up. I like the positive attitude even tho it didnt go to plan, well
done you.

BonzoDoodah · 20/07/2009 09:18

Aw JetLi so glad you had a good experience despite it not going as you'd hoped. That's the key to being satisfied with the whole birth. And I love Hetty's name. Is it short for anything? Also made me laugh (and twinge) at your top tips. Well done.

I totally second JetLi on keeping an open mind - I thought Tens was a load of rubbish - I loved it. Although my epidural failed the spinal didnt and Im told when an epidural is successful its the same feeling - i.e. ecstatic relief and I still managed decent pushing even without the 'urge' - the bottom line is she was just too big for me.

jetli I second bonzo I was really glad that although things didn't go to plan you were happy with the overall experience.

Awwww, Tay and Jetli thanks for posting your stories and experiences, it makes for lovely monday reading since I can't seem to shift my own nipper! Well done both of you and enjoy those lovely babas.

It's sunny today which IS FAB! It's also my due date.

Who's taking notice of the government swine flu advice to pregnant women then? I am not sure if it's total scaremongering to avoid crowded places (ie. Boo hoo I don't get to go swimming today. It's my last day without DD for months and months as childminder is on hols after today. Then when I have DD on my own for 3 weeks, don't take DD to any toddler groups etc for mummy-respite. God the thought of shutting us in the house for weeks on end is pretty hideous!). Or should I just ignore and carry on as usual - what are the rest of you doing?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but (as a first timer due a week today!) I wanted to ask why you would need a steriliser if you are BFing? Is it to express etc? I am planning to BF and haven't arranged any alternate options... quickfire advice (despite being on the wrong thread) much appreciated!
