I have started the new thread

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sparklytwinkletoes · 09/09/2009 12:40

Oh but Princess Mel, its such a cute dinky little tube!

K, more maternity towels and more labour nighties, I've got a couple left over from last time which I can bung in. I ended up in one of their gowns last time because I had an ECS . Hoping this one turns soon so I can VBAC this time.

Have just realised that I haven't sorted a tens machine out yet, I used mine loads last time. I'm sure things have gotten more complicated though - anyone got any recommendations? How do you choose between a 'Lady Tens', 'Elle Tens', 'Femme Tens' etc?

hackneybird · 09/09/2009 12:42

Thanks for your kind words Devil, they really made me feel much better.

Ruby I am thinking of you.

Happy - good luck for you too.

I will be looking out for posts later on to see how you both are.

sparkle and smallone I don't even want to think about how much more I have to do, every time I clear some time I always feel too knackered and end up on the sofa resting instead!

xx

princessmel · 09/09/2009 13:25

lol sparkly! Twinklegreen Have you used your Lifft sling before? or is it new for this baby?

If so, how is for a newborn? I imagine the baby to be so low down in the sling that you can't see them atall! They look quite deep. Slightly worried about them suffocating too, but I'm sure that's ridiculous. As they are made for newborn age onwards.
Also in the hold where you cross the babies legs in front of them, like a buddha, does that seem comfy? Not too squashed?

OP posts:
twinklegreen · 09/09/2009 13:38

princessmel I have never used the sling for a newborn, I got it when ds was about 5mths, so I need to learn the different position. They are quite squashed in the Buddah but my ds seemed to like it, he used to fall asleep the minute I put him in so it must have been comfortable. I mainly used the side lifft though, and even used it for my 2 year old. I really like mine, I find it really versatile.

KKKKaty · 09/09/2009 14:36

Hello all

I haven't posted in ages either - largely because everything is going fine (touch wood) and therefore not a lot to report. But I have been checking in with you all every day. I'm pretty much organised, I think. I've got a couple of visitors over the next week or so, so after I've got them out of the way I'll have a good look at the bags I've packed and probably redo them and add in the last few bits.

Twinklegreen - My midwife hasn't measured me either - only had it done once when I had a replacement as she was off. She seems to know her stuff though, and she always has a good feel of my bump, so it's not worrying me.

HT and Ruby - good luck for today!

twinklegreen · 09/09/2009 15:02

Ahh, maybe it's a York thing then KKKaty, are you on maternity leave yet? We could maybe meet up for a coffee sometime

NewbeeMummy · 09/09/2009 17:04

Hi all, not posted on here before, only just found this group.

So nice to see so many others expecting October Babies. Only due on the 21st so feel like I have ages to go yet.

smallone · 09/09/2009 17:18

Hi Newbee, welcome to the thread.

I bought my newborn nappies today - had forgotten how small they are, soooooo cute.

princessmel · 09/09/2009 17:45

Hi Newbee I'm due on the 21st aswell.

Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?

OP posts:
HappyTangerine · 09/09/2009 19:01

I am back with good news-all liver function tests normal, apart from slightly high ALT(but I have a cold). Bile acid level at 6 so well within normal range.Definately don't have obstetric cholestasis. No protein in urine and bp of 145/79 which they were v happy with considering they put the 145 down to them attempting to take blood from 4 different veins before it would finally co-operate. They strapped a fetal monitor on me for an hour and the baby spent the whole of that time trying to kick it off.. I had to press a button every time I felt movement and it was almost continous. Poor midwife kept coming back for a moment when he was quiet to take the bp but he wasn't playing ball. I am so happy and relieved, had spent half the night worrying that my liver was poisoning the baby and stupidly googled (and scared myself stupid). Thanks so much for all yourkind words and good wishes.

Three days ago I won tickets to see my favourite singer live in Manchester-its tomorrow night and I also won pre-concert meal and a signed album. So I can go safe in the knowledge that all is well. DH has day off and we are going to get the last bits we need inc car seat. My Boots parenting club stuff came through so I'll pick up the changing mat as well.

Had a mad cleaning/washing/ironing fit this morning, thinking I was going to go into hospital-now have my labour/hospital/baby bag all packed and ready to go.

Sparkly-mine contains:
(for me) maternity notes, medication, 3x old t shirts/nighties for labour, a dark coloured towel, MP3 player, hypnobirth music cd, socks, slippers, 2 pairs of loose pjs, 3x vest tops,2 packs of maternity pads, 1 pack of breast pads, cheap undies, disposable pants,Patientpak, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, moisteriser, hair stuff etc, Bio-Oil, camera, phone, camera and mp3 chargers,Lanisoh nipple cream, books & puzzle books. Also some cartons of Ribena, small bottles of Lucozade, some energy bars, packets of raisins and biscuit bars for DH when I'm in labour as I know he'll starve otherwise.

For the baby: pack of newborn nappies, 4x vests, 4x sleepsuits, 2x pairs scratch mits, 2x hats, muslims, cotton wool.Sling(have bought a Baba sling) and a Slumbi bear, bought on midwifes recommendation.DH can bring aanything else!

LittleMissBliss-how annoying that your appointment got changed. Hop your cold goes soon and you feel better.

Newbee welcome

Ruby hope all went well and the baby turned

DevilsAdvocaat · 09/09/2009 19:04

come on babyruby! head down head down!

welcome newbee.

  • have delivery from m'care coming tomorrow with most bits in including a new breastpump. strange how exciting it seems.
  • also have a little pile of baby ironing to do. the only time little vests etc get ironed
  • need to pick up a bag from my mum's to pack labour stuff in.
  • must order ds a present from the baby, thinking a little starter train set, saw one on amazon for 20 quid. think he'll really like it and may keep him busy whilst bfing (for about 2 mins anyway).

one of the ladies at my playgroup came with her 6 week baby today. gorgeous. made me feel really excited

walked about 5 miles over the course of today. i actually felt like the baby was going to fall out by the time i got home. can't wait to put ds to bed tonight (dh out) so i can sit down and relax.

how many boys v girls do we have now?

maybe we can have a little list? i can't remember anyone else

Hello and welcome Newbee.

How did it go ruby?

Going to buy a blue blanket thing from Mothercare for the pram-have used the same white one for the girls but have the need to buy blue. Also need a new changing box as I break each one I have so this will be the 3rd one. One for each child.

I have got the strong sense of smell back that makes you nauseous in the 1st 12 weeks-making eating and shopping a tad difficult.

Must go as England about to kick off.

Big wave!

rubyslippers · 09/09/2009 21:19

hello to Newbee and to all the lurkers
lovely to see the thread getting busier

sooo, they sent me home without doing the ECV as am not quite 37 weeks

back to hospital next week

scan today showed baby was breech with legs extended - had hoped he may have moved over night

ah well - thanks for all the lovely good wishes ...

xx

BellaCullen · 09/09/2009 21:52

Hello and welcome newbee do you know what you`re having and is it your first?

rubyslippers sorry you didnt have the ECV today dont know why they send you there when they should know you`re not quite 37 weeks yet.Hopefully baby might turn before they do it.

DevilsAdvocaat had delivery from mothercare yesterday with cocoon for phil&ted sport and head hugger for car seat as seemed to have lost the proper one for it.Ordered Barbie for DD as she goes on about wanting one constanly and Wii game for DS.Need to buy something for baby from them no idead what though.

MrsKitty · 09/09/2009 22:04

Ruby My growth scan this week showed that I'm carrying breech aswell . That added to the gestational diabetes seems to make things pretty clear that there's only one way things are going to go... Consultant has booked me in for another scan in 2 weeks time (at 38 weeks) to check size and position before making a decision on delivery, but I'm not holding out much hope for anything other than a c-section at this point TBH. Sonographer (have no idea how to spell that!) said there was a "very small chance" that baby might turn as there's enough fluid there apparantly...Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

HappyTangerine · 10/09/2009 00:56

Bella-thanks, am v relieved

Ruby and MrsKitty-sorry to hear that your babies are breech, sending you lots of turning vibes. Have you had a look at the Spinning Babies website? I found that a real help and am convinced that some of the positions were what helped mine turn(and I tried all of them!)

good morning to everyone

Mrskitty - fingers crossed for you

happy - good news for you too, re your liver function

i need to get some more muslins and a couple of hooded bath towels today

am on my second day of mat leave today - may attempt some more nesting

if i scrub enough floors this baby may turn!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 10/09/2009 08:44

Morning everyone,

Sorry that you've been messed about rubyslippers re your ECV appointment. Interesting about them not doing it till 37 weeks, I guess that's coz its when its deemed full term in case it triggers off labour? I'll be 37+2 when I see my consultant next week, it was a pre-scheduled appointment to look at induction, but if baby is breech I'm wondering if she'll perhaps attempt an ECV or schedule one quite promptly??

HT Great news about the OC, you must be so relieved. Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.

The weather was good here yesterday and looks set for another nice one today, which means I managed to get quite a lot of washing done yesterday - still seem to have mountains to do. Washing machine and dishwasher seem to have been on the go constantly for some time now. I was going to head back to bed for some catch up sleep, but the temptation to clean and tidy is quite strong.

I spent most of yesterday sitting on my birth ball doing jobs on laptop (orders, chasing my HiP Grant, MNing etc) and I feel like baby may have turned a bit... but have no clue really! I'll just have to be patient and wait for my scan next week.

Thanks for the labour bag contents list HT. I'd had most of my stuff in quite a small bag, because I'd used my 'big' weekend bag last weekend and wanted to have at least something packed and ready to go. Judging by the amount of things I seem to have missing, I may as well spend some time today re-packing it into the larger bag. I did debate taking two separate bags, DH would probably find that easier if one is for me and one for baby, hmmm, will have to experiment. who me, indecisive? repacking labour bag 60 10 times a day?, never

MrsK - definitely worth having a look at the baby spinning website and also, whilst remaining sceptical, I have been trying to think as positively as possible about the baby turning - there's quite a lot said about how important it can be to visualise what you want to happen.

Today, I'm going to try putting my headphones at the bottom of the bump and seeing what effect that has!

I've also got an osteopath appt at 11 so am hoping that any 'kinks' in my back, sacrum etc can be ironed out to make sure my 'pelvis is balanced', or at least as balanced as it can be to help baby turn. (Me, reading too much on the spinning babies website?, never!)

NewbeeMummy · 10/09/2009 09:56

Thanks for all the welcomes, it's nice to have so many people close to the same due date.

This is my first, so am rather nervous, but I think I have everything sorted now (although I'm sure there'll be bits I'll find I don't have once she arrives) Still wondering what exactly to pack in my Maternity bag as you get so many different opinions on what you need and how long you'll stay in hospital. Currently have about 4 different bags (arrive at hospital/labour bag, stay in hospital, baby bits bag, and going home bag) do you think I've over packed?

OOOh just remembered I have the MP3 player, but have yet to load anything on to it - that could have been interesting....

smallone · 10/09/2009 09:59

Morning! I hope all these babies start behaving themselves. Am committing myself to some optimal foetal positioning for the next few weeks. Did it half heartedly with dd and ended up with an op labour and emcs so will definitely put more effort in this time!

At the risk of turning everyone into toilet staring hypochondriacs, I've noticed that my wee has a shiny layer on it in the loo, like an oilslick. Does anyone know what this is? I haven't got any other symptoms of infection etc.

Bag is going well. Just need to sort out my toiletries and repack. I did have it all in a hold all but DH has requested a rucksack instead to make it easier for him to carry it and support me into the hosp. Quite a sensible idea for him, I'm a bit shocked I'm only taking one pack of maternity towels, tho I have another at home to be brought in if nec. They take up soo much room. The hosp provided a box in each loo last time. zzzoo99And I'm only taking half a pack of breast pads and nappies - living on the edge

LittleMissBliss · 10/09/2009 10:14

I'm stuck in today, I realised on Monday that my car tax had expired 2 months ago I didn't recieve a reminder. I need to try and re-new it with-out the form from the DVLA, but that involves finding all my car paper work which is under lots of boxes in the garage as the office is now the new babies room.

I was going to go and get the last few bits for my maternity bag today but am paranoid about using my car incase i get caught and fined think i've laready pushed my luck. So as soon as dp gets home i'm going to sort out the car business asap. Feel lost not being able to drive. I can't face catching a bus when i'm not well. All that waiting about and i always attract weirdos.

So far today i have mowed the lawn and pruned and weeded the garden. I have a big pile of ironing to sort through but will do that when ds has a nap.I made some soup yesterday to freeze but ate quite abit because it was rather yummy! I will make some more tomorrow.

Welcome newbee I discovered mumsnet when pregnant with ds and it is very addictive!

I hope your babies turn asap!

hackneybird · 10/09/2009 12:49

Morning all

Welcome newbee. Ruby you must be so frustrated.

I've been taking iron pills since the beginning of the week as my levels were so low, and I am already feeling sooo much better. DH says I have my colour back. Also got a great night's sleep last night so today I feel like superwoman.

I'm off to Boots to get toiletries for hospital bag, which I am going to pack this weekend. Very exciting.

Just adding myself to list.
