I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

silkcushion · 13/06/2009 23:16

thanks for the update on tee and Adam

MrsM - what a lovely hb story. Sorry it went awry at the hospital but at least you had some good intimate time at home beforehand. Very lucky yr ds was asleep through it all.

I'm knackered so off to bed now with my massively swollen ankles.

Feeling very uncomfortable (lo doing lots of strange and unpleasant movements) Doesn't help that both my mum and dad looked like this when they arrived tonight and said I looked much much larger than i did 4 weeks ago - I know I am bloody 9 months pg

Hope lo arrives tonight as it would be very convenient with my parents staying. Although my mum said it might upset Zac (their collie dog) Got visions of he and I howling away together

June2009 · 14/06/2009 01:55

Argh, I can't sleep.
Just been reading about sweeps and induction and keep changing my mind between having the sweep tomorrow at 41 weeks or delaying it until I'm 40+10 or +12, at the risk of not being able to give birth in the midwife unit at all.
A sweep is the most natural thing to do to help things along I think so (maybe) I should just have it done.
But I'm nervous about it being painful/a bad experience and no have any result and interfere with how it would happen naturally and end up being a horrible experience all round.
Although there is a side of me who just wants to leave it entirely to nature there is a risk that this won't be possible at all if I have to be induced. Then I would probably regret not trying eveything I could have done, including this sweep.
I also worry about the baby and how she is doing in there, it would be much nicer to have her out and know she is safe, another argument to have the sweep done.

It would be nice if the mw or a doctor had a look down there to see how my cervix is doing really and what they would suggest based on that. It'll also depend on the mw there tomorrow to be honest.

Naat · 14/06/2009 04:31

Hello juners!
Very very quick post
At the BC since 12.45am
4cm dialated and going into the pool now.

Will keep you all posted of course!!! Birthing vibes to all the fellow contractors!

Ps. June, I know it might be uncomf and a bit painful but the sweep did work for me after a few days and now I'm able to be here at the BC. Talk it through w the MW or consultant tomorrow and of course do what you feel is best

Lots of hugs!!

Naat

chocciedooby · 14/06/2009 05:06

Oh Naat how exciting!!!!! You will have your baby very soon

The best of luck, see you on the other side .

I just woke up with period cramps and had when I sat on the toilet water just came out! I had a pee etc (sorry tmi) but the water keeps coming little by little so I think my waters have broke!!!! DH is fast asleep. Going to take a sample now and see and then wake DH.

daisy5 · 14/06/2009 06:43

Fantastic naat and choccie.

I am just logging on quickly to read up about induction. I'm half considering insisting they change the date till Thursday, as just do not believe their dates are correct. I make myself 41 weeks today. They say 3 days more.

june - you might want to take a look at this www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG070FullGuideline.pdf go to Section 5.2.1 Membrane Sweeping. As someone who is now facing possible induction, I would have happily had 4 membrane sweeps - as they are pretty minimal intervention in my opinion, but it's your call.

mrsmcjnr - so impressed with your post. I am not with it enough now to respond, but really amazed how 'together' you are. As for calmly putting ds to bed and waiting for dh before giving birth - how impressive is that .

daisy5 · 14/06/2009 06:44

I am so thrilled for you naat and choccie - and envious too. I have you have wonderful births.

daisy5 · 14/06/2009 07:04

june - this article is quite interesting too.

Due Date vs Birth Date

20% of babies born between 41 and 42 weeks.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 14/06/2009 08:40

Oooo! Good luck Naat and choccie! Can't wait to hear your news!

dreamydowler · 14/06/2009 09:13

woohoo ladies hope you are both well on your way to having your little ones in your arms Naat and Choccie Well Im 2 days away from due date and still no signs of an imminent arrival Hospital wednesday for term appointment so will see what is decided then. Im going to get stuck in to cleaning the living room and kitchen AGAIN today grr cant keep on top of these kids at the moment and make a sunday roast dinner and try to get on top of the washing. Dp has been up since 4am bless and has took my eldest daughter to a car boot sale to try to help her raise some funds for uni. Hope everyone is feeling good today and having a good weekend. Will log in again later to see if any more news.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/06/2009 09:17

Hi al, how exciting for Naat and chocci

Godd luck and postive birth vibes ladies.

Will check back for more news later!!!

snowwombat · 14/06/2009 10:02

Hi juners, a down under arrival !

baby boy arrived 3:01am saturday 13th, 7lb 11oz, 54cm long! No name yet. Went into labour thursday night and avoided the induction (2 sweeps and acupuncture helped!). He is gorgeous and we have just made it home. Will write more soon.

Hope everyone is well and the baby arrivals are making good progress!

ermintrude13 · 14/06/2009 10:52

snowwombat wonderful news, many congratulations and well done you! Very nice weight too. Look forward to hearing more - including the wee chap's name - soon.

Naat and choccie so excited for you and hoping to hear news

June I agree with daisy that a sweep is worth having anyway. Even though mine was v painful (at 41+9) that was because my cervix was v swollen and needed a bit of help to start effacing - and DS was born 26 hrs later. And if it's not painful - and for most people it's just a bit uncomfy - you've not lost anything. Hope someone can comment on how things are looking down below for you.

/waves to everyone else and hoping all is well

silkcushion · 14/06/2009 11:04

congrats Snow. Good luck to Naat and Choccie - maybe you'll have yr babies in yr arms by now.

No overnight howling and homebirthing for me. I'm sitting firmly in the no symptoms corner with Dreamy.

Off for a waddle walk around the new Gloucester Quays development with dd and mum. Dh has to work and ddad is going to vegetate in front of Sky Sports I think. Back for a nice lunch later and then Roast Beef tonight.

Hope you all have good days

dreamydowler · 14/06/2009 12:03

congratulations snow really happy for you Looking forward to hearing more news soon.

June2009 · 14/06/2009 12:06

Aww guys, thank you so much for your invaluable input about the sweep, I've decided to have it and I feel really positive about it after reading your posts, whatever happens.

Daisy That article is really interesting thanks, I'm not entirely sure about my dates as I'd just stopped the pill and only had a couple of cycles.

naat, I'm so happy for you that you're in the pool, thank you for writing me your message aboutt he sweep even though you must have been a little busy with like giving birth...I got a bit emotional :D

You probably have the baby by now, can't wait to hear your story!

choccie Oooh, how exciting :D Good luck it's close now!

dreamydowler · 14/06/2009 12:16

just noticed that its been announced on the birth announcement section that nemo had a baby girl last night doesnt give any more information but woohoo congratulations nemo

LittleSarah · 14/06/2009 12:29

Ooooh, how exciting! Both Naat and Choccie are probably both cuddling babies by now! Yay! Congrats guys!

Congratulations to snow too, wonderful news, can't wait to hear more!

Not a bad night last night, ended up doing last feed about midnight so two main night feeds were about 3am and 5am, actually woke up without headachey exhaustion!

ermintrude13 · 14/06/2009 13:00

Thanks for Nemo news Dreamy - I've left her a msg saying the June thread would love to hear more when she has a moment.

June I was actually 40+9 when I had my sweep, otherwise known as 41+2. Maths confusion! Glad you're feeling more settled about it.

silk enjoy your waddle. Am of the roast beef but I just can't be bothered to cook big meals at the moment - tea tonight will be bacon and egg toasted bagels .

LittleS Glad you got a little sleep and aren't too exhausted this morning

loooouise · 14/06/2009 13:17

Hooray!! Congratulations Snow, can't wait to hear more about your wee boy. Hope you're feeling ok and enjoying lovely snuffles and cuddles. Sending love down under!

Naat and Choccie I'm sending you positive feminine energies and looking forward to hearing your news!

Dreamy, Silk and other symptomless ladies, hope you're bearing up. It's my due date today, I have mild period pains and am a bit grumpy, don't know if that indicates any kind of hormonal shift. But the cramps are constant, rather than the gigantic wave I experienced on Thurs morning, so not too excited...

June, will be thinking of you at 4pm - I'd really like to hear about it if you feeling like sharing, as I may be in the same boat this time next week.

Nemo hoping to hear confirmation from you soon!

LittleS hope today's a bit easier for you and you're feeling less tearful.

MrsMcJnr What can I say? You sound like the most poised and capable woman on earth. I still think there's a play in there somewhere. What a lovely, lovely story.

Doris hope the reign of the sofa is over soon and you dock somewhere more stimulating shortly! Lol re Jeremy Vyle.

Daisy going to read your article right now, I don't want to wait another 2 weeks I want to meet LO now!!!

MrsMcJnr · 14/06/2009 13:26

Day 4 of no more than 45 mins of consecutive sleep in the night, I am beginning to feel like I am running on empty, hoping that things settle down over the next few nights. I had hoped with DD being a bigger baby, she?d go longer between feeds but I guess my milk is only just in really. If only I didn't need sleep, it would be very handy to have one baby sleep all day and the other all night!

Littlesarah ? the other mother I shared a room with and I were having similar issues with sore nipples at the hospital. She had fed her elder DD until she was 3 ½ too so I guess sometimes you get pain and damaged and sometimes you get lucky. My nipples are pretty sore but not as bad as they were with DS I don?t think, Aaliyah does have a strong latch but my book says that that means she is actually incorrectly latched because I shouldn?t be able to feel the latch I was very envious of your birth story and actually really enjoyed Aaliyah?s birth in the end . I just wished we could have stayed at home afterwards instead of going in but that?s just what had to be done I guess

June ? my Mum told me this morning that she thinks she is still traumatized she says it is because it also brings back memories of her 4 siblings being born at home and having to keep the younger ones out of the way etc. Funny, I would have thought that would have made it easier to cope with but I guess we are all different. It?s her birthday today so we are going up there later for a roast. Thanks for the compliments on the name; we?ve liked it for a long time. There was/is actually another Aaliyah on the MN PN threads, she was born at the same time as my DS and I was so surprised as didn?t know anyone else at that stage with the name (apart from the singer!) now I?ll probably hear it everywhere! Hope the MW appointment and the sweep went well. Thanks for the update on Tee sorry you couldn?t sleep last night with all that on your mind ? I have to say, in my mind a sweep is worth it if it means induction could be avoided but that?s juts me, never been induced so am sure I think it is much worse than it might be but that?s just my gut feeling, better the sweep and the chance of kicking things off rather than going to induction.

Ermintrude ? LOL over the years I am sure the story will be embellished ?and just before you were born, I did all the washing and cleaning and baked cookies and had dinner ready??

Laura ? hope you had a lovely day with your Mum

Silkcushion ? LOL at the image of you and Zac howling together!!

Naat ? ahhhh! Loved your into the pool post! So exciting!

Choccie ? another one kicking off I think!

Daisy ? push for those further days, they might make all the difference. If it makes them agree tell them you?ll have monitoring whenever they like before then. Read the AIMS pamphlet on induction too, it?s called ?Induction ? do I really need it?? www.aims.org.uk/ Aaliyah was covered in vernix, yes, she?s a good size and weight but I wouldn?t have thought she would have been classed as overdue and she was 6 days over the dr?s due date and 4 days after my own.

Dreamy ? you are such a busy lady

Fabulous Snowwombat ? really fabulous, congratulations lady! What a long baby! tell us more when you can!

Nemo ? many congratulations to you too hon

Looouise ? LOL I?m not sure my mother would agree with your assessment, I got FURIOUS with her at 10.45 when she couldn?t line up the TENS pads properly!! it must have been hard for her seeing her daughter like that though, none of her 3 births went particularly well (we were all forceps deliveries) and I think you can only judge a situation from your own experience so I imagine she was very scared for me whereas I felt quite calm and in control. I also wouldn?t let her touch me, didn?t want anyone touching me but I am just like that, even when ill etc, someone holding my hair for me whilst being sick is my idea of hell! happy due date hon!

afternoon all

snowwombat, wonderful news, congratulations Hope to hear more news soon!

nemo, huge congratulations to you too

naat and choccie, how exciting, hope to hear your news soon

MrsMcJnr, wonderful birth story, perfect timing too Sorry to hear the hospital wasn't such fun, must be lovely to be back home again!

june, hope you get on ok this afternoon and the sweep starts things off for you

loooouise, happy dday, hope it's not another 2 weeks for you!

dreamy, you're sounding very organised!

doris happy birthday Hope your little lady lets you off the sofa long enough to eat cake

Edward is also feeding lots in the evening and is only getting up once or twice in the night, it's lovely, so long as it lasts! Feeding seems to be going really well at the moment, he weighed 10lb 3oz when the midwife weighed him this morning and she signed us both off which was lovely. Still getting plenty of pooey nappies, don't think he's going to last much longer in new born nappies!

come on daisy, waiting for labour news from you

waves to all

June2009 · 14/06/2009 15:03

Happy Birthday Doris! Hope you have a really lovely day, the weather is fantastic down here.

lauraloo09 · 14/06/2009 15:33

afternoon all

snow wonderful news about your baby boy cant wait to hear more and find out his name

nemo congrats on your baby girl and again cant wait to hear more

naat & choccie sending positive birthing vibes to you both and cant wait for updates

Well today have had some cramps but nothing major as per usual, suppose my due date isn't until saturday but hoping something will happen soon. june I am a bit worried about a sweep being done but think i'll have it done anyway hoping it will save me being induced, actually think my CMU wants me to have a few sweeps done and aromatherapy treatments to see if that will help baby arrive without induction. Going to go back to my cleaning hopefully will bring on baby [wishful thinking emoticon]

OP posts:
silkcushion · 14/06/2009 17:59

congratulations Nemo - must have been fairly quick as I thought she was only going in yesterday evening.

Can't wait for Choccie and Naat's news later - there will soon be more people who've popped than not.

Have had a lovely day so far but am now in desperate need of getting my feet up - they have swollen beyond all recognition. Really helpful having my mum here to play/help with dd - dh has been locked in the study working all day and has now ventured out to watch sky sports cricket with my dad

Time for a rest I think whilst mum takes dd and Zac for a walk. Then up and at em to cook the roast later.

Hope for more news soon
