Morning
I too have been given shorts and t-shirts in size 6-9 months - very kind of people but not very useful - summer shorts at Christmas??? (so have taken them back which I sort of feel bad about but better to have stuff that will be worn I think).
Have just realised that I need to register baby H by TOMORROW as we are in Scotland and only get 3 wks to register not 6 as I thought (duh). So I said to DH last night about it and he said he isn't sure he likes baby H's name - apparently he can never remember it! So now I'm a bit worried........what to do? He says he doesn't want to change it (and neither do I) but I am a bit annoyed with him that he agreed to it when he obviously isn't that keen. Lots of people don't seem to like it (which doesn't bother me in the slightest) but it bothers him I think. And he's being a grumpy horror at the moment anyway (work getting on top of him I think). Anyway feeling a bit down today as DH went to work after snapping at me for no reason and now I'm on my own all morning feeling a bit crappy. Boo. Better get dressed - back later.

Sorry, me me me post. Oops.

Tummum · 09/06/2009 10:37

Oh Frazz how crap are men? What was the point of saying he didn't like the name if he doesn't want to change it and agreed to it in the 1st place?! No wonder you are feeling crappy.

Momino · 09/06/2009 13:04

frazz/tummum, I must admit to being uncertain (still!) about Harper's name, though we're not going to change it. DH loves it and was never in doubt as it's been on our baby name list for both dd1 and dd2 though we chose other names.

problem is I think India and Saskia are beautiful names and we get lots of people saying so but Harper doesn't get the same reaction. Indeed we get the 'is it a boy's name' or 'that's unuuusual' (not said in complimentary way). However, I searched through baby name books in the days following Harper's birth and couldn't find a close alternative. so Harper stuck. She'll grow into it I feel and make it a beautiful name to stand up next to the other two.

Frazz, I love the name Hugo!

ReeBee · 09/06/2009 14:17

Frazz, at your DH for being so unhelpful and rude! He's clearly tired and emotional himself if he's making rubbish comments like that and snapping at you. That's no fun. Mr Bee has been a tad on the moody side himself recently (have just been shouted at for walking past the TV and momentarily obscuring his vision, when it was so I could check on the baby!!!) so I know exactly how you feel - too fragile and bruised to cope with insensitivity. Oh yeah, and we have Sky+ so even if I'd deliberately done a dance in front of it, it wouldn't havce mattered! Sigh.

I love the name Hugo as well. I think that naming children has changed massively over the last couple of years and unless you're having children now (like us!) I don't think that you would realise that.

We've had varying reactions about Felix (many predictably referring to f'ing catfood) and it does make you worry especially when it's such a big and difficult decision in the first place.

momino, I think Harper's a fab name. Do you think a reason for it not getting the same reaction as the others' names is that they're similar 'types' of name - very pretty, clearly girly names with similar sounds and Harper is different, stronger and definitely more unusual? Maybe people assumed you would have given H a more obviously 'girly' name and are surprised? I completely agree with your comments about her growing into it - it's an exciting name to have and I think she'll feel very lucky to have it.

pulapula · 09/06/2009 14:29

Frazzled- I think it takes time to get used to babies' names. Poor S just gets called "baby" or "babi" ("baby" but with a Yorkshire accent IYSWIM) all the time as that's what the DCs call him. I sometimes wonder whether we should have chosen a name with more syllables as we still keep confusing DS1 (Ben) and DS2 (Sam) as they are similar names in some ways. But i think it's more a case of just getting used to it. Anyway, DD (aged 4) wishes we'd called her Lily as she thinks its a lovely name, and wants to know why we called her Katie . When i was younger i wished i was called Sophie or even better, Sophia like babygrump .

Momino · 09/06/2009 15:59

reebee, you got it exactly right about difficulty naming children. btw Felix was on my list if we'd had a boy .

at your DH for shouting at you obscuring his view of tv...

seems the DH/DPs are acting up. mine's snappier as well and found out he's worried about making ends meet to cover costs of 3rd LO (eg new car to fit 3 car seats, things needing repair in the house, etc). In fact, he's waking in the middle of the night and not because of helping with harper ... he's 'got a lot on his mind'.

This change of having a/another child is difficult on relationships, isn't it?

MsG · 10/06/2009 00:07

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted - I ended up spending a week in hospital due to high blood pressure and beautiful Charlotte Emily was born late on Friday night. Came home last night. Am really struggling with breast feeding and am about a mm away from giving up. Argh.

Hope everyone else is well. xxx

runningmonkey · 10/06/2009 05:06

Congrats MsG! Glad you are both well and home and lovely name too. Am in complete sympathy re BF am now 1.5 hrs into a feed and not sure if A is just sucking or actually swallowing anything and that's after spendin ages trying to latch her on... She's like an octopus!

Momino · 10/06/2009 06:35

MsG, congrats on Charlotte's safe arrival am glad you're home. BF is really a tough thing but it does get easier . Hope you're finding time to relax.

Belgianchocolates · 10/06/2009 11:55

Hi everyone,

Congrats MrsG. BF can be hard at first, but it does get easier. C is 4 weeks now and she's on and off in no time. She knows what she's doing now, though still lets go to suck on her hands instead sometimes

baby names C still gets called baby by dh and the dcs. I've only just felt comfortalbe calling her C. Somehow she doesn't look like a C, she's too chunky and fat!

My dh isn't here at the mo, so I'm having no trouble with him . I do feel a bit stressed though, because he has left me a list of things to do/get before the weekend and I'd rather just stay at home and do my own thing.

[angy] I've just been outbid at the very last second on eBay. I hate it when that happens. I'm trying to get a sunshade playmat thing for C, so we've got somewhere safe to put her down in the sun.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 10/06/2009 12:07

congrats MrsG on the safe arrival of Charlotte

ReeBee · 11/06/2009 10:38

Congrats MsG, lovely that you're now home.

BFing might be easier at home when you're more relaxed? The only way I could do it at first (and still our preferred method now) is lying down - takes all the worry about cushions and levels away.

Momino, DH here is also feeling 'a bit down' today and he's not sure why, he just feels worried 'about things'. Poor lamb

Seems like this thread is my spiritual home - must be because F was so blooming late I never thought I'd make it to the other thread!

Am off to try to read some of it but need to bath the baby (only because the midwife is coming this afternoon and then some friends from NCT!)

MsG · 12/06/2009 01:24

Where do we go from here - I've heard of a postnatal thread but can't find it??!

xx

FiKelly · 12/06/2009 05:42

Jennster · 12/06/2009 22:13

Bollocks. Am getting my second post partum cold. Dd is only 4 weeks old. How unlucky is that. Oh well. Could be worse.

Blottedcopybook · 13/06/2009 11:04

I have a cold too My ex-DH came in last night to collect #1, I mentioned I had a head cold and he oinked at me which is NOT FUNNY!
