big congrats to Frazz sausage cote minimenace and anyone else I've missed - finding it hard to keep up but am always excited to hear about more of our babies arriving. More lovely names, and another quick labour

Saus hope Martha is getting better and is out of SCBU soon.

Dandy at that woman. How childish of her.

Blotted great birth story and well done for going the distance on gas & air.

Looby well done for going to the mum & baby group and bf-ing M. There is a mum & baby group on Mondays near here (called FAB, Fanatical about Breastfeeding I think ) but I haven't got the courage or my arse in gear to go yet. I do go to coffee mornings with my NCT ante-natal group though once a week at each other's houses. Even though I know them and have bf in front of them I still feel self conscious. There is one woman who's on her second DC and she manages to bf very discreetly so I think it's a matter of practice. I've found getting out and seeing people is making me feel more energised and being able to compare notes is helpful too.

Momino · 22/05/2009 13:41

grumpy... haven't you had it yet??! [evil-but-playfully-teasing-grin and hoping grumpy is good-natured today and can take a joke]

Momino · 22/05/2009 13:46

congratulations sausage and minim! great news and saus, hoping Martha has improved and you're ok as well.

looby, well done for going to the M&B group.

I managed to get to play group earlier this morning than i ever did when it was just the 2 DDs - I think i was on a mission! I had a couple of friends there so they held baby when i needed to have a hand for one of the older DD's. also BF but I'm also self conscious so was hunched over quite a bit but think H fed ok.

I think that's enough for today and we'll stay home this afternoon. it's raining here anyway so a good excuse to do nothing but play inside.

LoobyLou36 · 22/05/2009 14:16

have spoken to doc about M, thinks she might have colic.
she seems full of wind, grumpy, red faced crying, keeps pulling legs up, has thrown up twice today after feeding and during YUK (both times bf) so i am taking her in to see doc at 3.55.

Poor love i just feel so helpless hopefully they can help

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 22/05/2009 14:22

momino

I will be off to get DD2 from school shortly - that's the worst place for the comments. They make me feel like I'm deliberately withholding this baby (it's 2 weeks end of term holiday after today, so they'll have to wait until after the holiday to see the baby, how selfish of me).

I know there'll be a spate of disappointed phone calls tonight as well.

Just girding my loins (love that expression, what the hell does it mean?)

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 22/05/2009 14:25

Oh loobs poor M. With DD1 (who had terrible colic), I laid her over my knee on her front and rubbed her back. It worked on her, but I did have sicky/drooly knees for a while . I hope she doesn't suffer for too long, it's awful, watching them pulling their little legs up in pain

runningmonkey · 22/05/2009 15:57

Congrats mini and sausage was actually wondering about sausage this morning as u thought she'd gone quiet and was hoping it was good news.

grumpy hope school run wasn't too traumatic at least you won't have to see them for a couple of weeks now.

looby glad you made it out well done hope M is ok soon

Wonder how Fi is?

Hi to everyone else too am still struggling with claws so typing is hard

frazzledoldbag · 22/05/2009 16:28

Hi all. Sorry didn't manage back on yesterday but was in midst of feeding marathon with the wee milk monster. Anyway am supposed to be having a quick nap but wanted to post my birth story before it fades from my memory. It was all quite quick in the end....
Dh decided to play a golf comp (about 1 hour drive from our house) on Wednesday morning so I did school run and by 9am was feeling a bit period crampy and niggly but nothing different to usual really. Hadn't had time for breakfast so popped into Borders to buy a couple of books and a decaf and croissant. By 10am I was in TK Maxx browsing the baby stuff and casually timing some (I thought) BHicks contx. Coming about every 5 or 10 mins and not particularly sore I was debating whether to phone up and book myself a reflexology session and maybe even a facial/pedicure to cheer myself up as now 4 days overdue. Something made me decide not to and I texted DH from the car park before I left to say feeling a bit niggly but probably nothing to worry about. This was about 10.15am. Got home about 10.30 and paced about a bit, contx now a bit stronger and every 5 mins. Switched on contx monitor on computer to try timing a few and pottered about doing a bit of house work. Made a few phone calls and realised I had to breathe through a couple of contx - this was when I noticed they were about 3 mins apart and lasting over a minute. Texted DH saying I think you should consider coming home. Ten mins later I was hanging on to the kitchen worktop breathing heavily and starting to panic - DH not replying to text. Sent another saying 'GET HOME NOW' then phoned the midwife unit. Had 3 contractions in about 5 mins whilst on phone to them - midwife said to call again when I was leaving once DH had got back. DH then called from the golf course and when he heard the panic in my voice started running back toward the car dropping golf clubs in his wake - unfortunately he was by now about as far from the car park as possible! By now I really needed my TENS on but there was nobody to do it for me so I got on all fours and DH breathed thro contx with me while he got in the car and started driving. Contx now 2-3 mins apart and loads of show and some pressure with contx. Decided I really needed tens on so tried to do it myself - between big contx in front of the mirror. Not recommended and kept giving myself elec shocks. Even tho not properly on it was better than nothing so I relaxed a bit and listened to my hypno cd on my ipod draped over birthing ball in playroom window with my bum in the air. Quite a spectacle for the neighbours.
Posted on mn but had to stop as was starting to really panic.about 12.15pm, pressure in my bum and unable to sit down I was aware that if my waters broke I'd be delivering the baby myself on the floor. DH arrived - sprinting into the house and tried to bundle me in the car. I calmed down as soon as I saw him, he put my tens on properly while I insisted he eat a sandwich - wtf???

He called midwife unit and they said hurry in and they were running my pool already. Couldn't sit in front of car so perched on one buttock for v uncomfy 20 min journey with lots of red traffic lights and people staring at me as I breathed through big contx and hung on to Dh. Arrived at hosp to be met by 2 lovely mw who stood in car park rubbing my back through contx while I hung on to the car. Eventually prised me away into assessment room where she said I was 6cm and 'paper thin' and the head was very low. This was about 1pm. By 1.15pm I was in the pool but refusing gas and air as I wanted to keep it for when it got 'really sore' - which came about 10 mins later with contx every minute. They seemed to get a lot worse quite fast and suddenly I'd gone from chatting politely in between to not knowing what to do with myself as was feeling pressure all the time. When I started mooing I knew it was really going to get painful - the pool was fabulous and without it I'd have been begging for diamorphine by then but the m/w rubbed my back and DH breathed with me (god, am crying now just thinking about it) and I got through each one. I was hanging over the side of the pool on all fours with my legs akimbo when the m/w said 'your waters have gone and I think you're fully dilated'. My first thought was 'oh shit, this is going to hurt!' then had a huge contraction and started to scream (like some kind of unearthly animal). The Mw got DH to press the emergency buzzer and the 2nd lovely mw came in and knelt down beside DH and kept encouraging me to relax and that I could do it. I suddenly felt the head move down and hit my perineum and felt the burning sensation (more undignified screaming plus much yelling of 'I want to go home, I can't do it, I don't want to have a baby any more, get it out, get it out'. I do also remember saying 'I should have been having a facial' in an indignant tone of voice which the mw thought was hilarious. I didn't.

I then felt the baby move again and am sure I felt his shoulders. I don't know if I pushed or not but a voice in my head just kept telling me to relax and breathe. I was panicking as the feeling was so overwhelming but I pushed once and felt huge relief as he slipped out of me. They lifted him gently to the surface and I turned round to see him coming up through the water and into my arms. It was love at first sight! and I couldn't believe it was over. Hugo was born at 2.40pm after a 4 hour labour and we stayed in the pool together for about 30 mins while he cuddled in happily and was so serene and calm. I kept asking if he was OK but they assured me that water birth babies are usually very chilled out. I had a physiological 3rd stage (despite a previous PPH) and delivered placenta after about 1 hour. DH cut cord and Hugo fed for about 45 mins and has barely stopped feeding since.
His birth has undoubtedly been the best of my 3 and I would absolutely do the whole thing again tomorrow. It was fantastic - apart from having DH on the golf course for the first half of it. I'm not planning on having any more babies but if I did I'd want another one like that.

Sorry - a bit long!

chocolatebunnies · 22/05/2009 17:16

Just to let you all know that things aren't great here,

I've to go into hospital to be checked over as they think baby may have turned breech over the last few days.

The midwife said it was unlikely but it is possible so they want to check.

If everything is ok they're going to do a sweep to try and get things moving.

I didnt have one with Madi so am a little scared

alapala · 22/05/2009 17:55

Wow frazz that brought tears to my eyes! Congratulations, and love the name - it's still a possible here. LOL..almost.. at your DH sprinting off with golf clubs - am not letting mine more than 15 mins away!

rosielady · 22/05/2009 18:18

Hi All,

Frazz ammaazzing birth story - I am so impressed - well done and congratulations.

Congrats too to Sausage and Mimi - can't believe it sausage I thought we were going to be amongst the last to go!

Had my appointment this morning and have an elective CS booked for Wednesday next week. Was offered a sweep but declined in a very wimpesh way. Felt so stressed out this morning - couldn't decide what was better / worse - trying for a spontaneous labour or getting another CS - but this time I will be conscious as it will be a spinal rather than a GA. So I got them to talk me through what happens with ECS as I didn't know last time. I just felt like I don't want to do any of it - how daft I know - but I just don't. And I know I should be excited about the baby coming very soon, but I'm not - why not?

SpangleMaker · 22/05/2009 19:13

Frazz lovely, inspiring birth story... I want to do it again too after reading that (am I mad??!!) Well done you!

Belgianchocolates · 22/05/2009 19:47

Just having a quick look to see if there are any more babies

It looks like a lot has happened in 24h, so:
Congratulations Sausagen and minimenace fi good luck. You must be holding your lo by now.

frazz what a lovely birth story. I know what you mean about wanting to do it again (exept next time I don't want the baby to look around when just the head is out; that really hurts!)

post baby bellies This time around mine is the baggiest looking from all 3. It sort of hangs below my belly button, above it I look normal . My mat jeans are too big now and normal stuff too small. I'm sort of restriced to 2 black stretchy skirts, which DH likes, but I'd love to fit in some jeans . I've still got fluid to loose, my wedding ring still doesn't fit.

Momino · 22/05/2009 21:27

just checking in as well.

frazz, loved your story and cried through it just now. lovely.

hope all are well.

RiverMoon · 22/05/2009 22:32

Hi Ladies!

Well it's been ages since I posted, but I noticed I had been removed from the due date list :-(

Not too worry, it makes sense since I had not posted. But I had a good reason! I was shifting abroad. We are settled now and just waiting for the arrival of our princess. She is due today!

It has been lovely reading all your birth stories.

Congratulations to all of you who have made it to the finishing line already.

xxx

Momino · 22/05/2009 23:08

Hi rvermoom, good to hear from you. where did you move? how are you feeling? hope all is well andwish you luck on your impending arrival.

Belgianchocolates · 22/05/2009 23:18

colic ds had it infacol, tummy rubs and lying over my knees while having his back rubbed worked. Looby how well does M bring up her wind after feeds? Some babies find it hard and that might make them a bit colicky. Hope M is OK. If she has got colic, then keep in mind it's only temporary. Most babies grow out of it by 12 weeks. I know my ds did.

RiverMoon · 23/05/2009 03:29

quickie post.. cs went well and a totally different experience during as didn't get nauseous or vomity instead that happened after when in recovery! was still v dizzy for rest of day but almost gone now.. it is due to low blood pressure.

can't decide on our girl's name but she was born at 11.37am yesterday weighing a whopping 9lbs 7oz good job we didn't leave the cs till next week as it was a squeeze getting her out yesterday!

bf going ok so far but she's a hungry girl! lets hope my boobs keep it up

on phone so not easy to catch up.. will keep you all posted when we've decided her name.

xoxox

rosielady · 23/05/2009 08:47

Fikelly - you've done really well. Congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby girl. It is reassuring to hear a positive view on the CS - I have been wobbling a great deal over the last day or two - but this helps get my head aroud it.

Chocbunnies hope your sweep went well - is it having the desired effect? I chickened out after being offered one yesterday. Are you still in hospital or are you at home?

Rivermoon - good luck with everything - a rather big deal to be moving across the atlantic especially at this stage! Where in America, and are you American returning or moving there for the first time? I would imagine the hospital system is very different over there?

alapala · 23/05/2009 09:40

Congrats to Fi!
Finally some signs here. There was a MASSIVE thunderstorm last night and somehow this triggered contractions bet' midnight and 3 am. Was v worried because of weather, DH prob over the limit and my doctor is away this weekend! However it all calmed down, but I need to get my head round the fact that chilbirth is coming my way - denial moi??

rosielady · 23/05/2009 09:44

Alpala - welcome to Club Denial! - I thought I was the only member!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/05/2009 09:44

FiKelly - congrats!! Really pleased you had a better experience this time. Take it easy and I look forward to hearing BS when you get chance.

Congrats to for sausagen and minimenace

RiverMoon - I'm amazed at moving countries in the latter stages of pg!

DS is 2 weeks today!!!

We had a lovely day yesterday with friends. Their 3.7yr old DD was so good with DS. In the afternoon we all went into town and registered DS birth and then had coffee and pudding at Cafe Rouge before going to the park.

Today we have a wedding to go to this afternoon! Getting quite used to going out and about Think I'm going to feel a bit stranded next week though when DH is back at work...
