sausagenmash · 12/05/2009 14:18

How about Ada Doris - seriously, that was her second name.... quite like my Great Nan's name though - Martha....

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 12/05/2009 14:25

Doris aha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!! It must be used.

Blotted sod it, if you have sunshine, grass you can lay on and Soleros, I'm coming up! Be there in about 4 hours

Daizydoo I hope the review goes well try not to worry.

Frazz Oooh a surprise car!

FiKelly · 12/05/2009 14:44

Love the retro name convo lol

daisydoo hope the review goes well and you're not kept in... or at least not for long if they insist...

oooo just seen a wasp has flown inside our windows... off for the swatter. can't stand them... bees are ok but wasps are just plain nasty!

Febes · 12/05/2009 14:47

Been having mild contractions since lunch time. quite far apart still. I hope this is going somewhere......

sausagenmash · 12/05/2009 14:56

FiKelly - retro? Its practically Victorian! Mum's 2nd name is Jean - I vaguely (VERY vaguely, mind) suggested that as a 2nd name to dp, and he said it would make lo sound like a Buddy Holly song. He has a fair point.

Febes! Omg! Wooo!

I had the squits about 10 minutes after finishing my raspberry leaf tea. Hmf.

Momino · 12/05/2009 14:58

good luck febes, fingers crossed!

when we were trying to think of boy names, we looked to family ones ... my fil is Bernard.... is that name ever used these days? couldn't imagine a baby bernard.

OP posts:
emmabemmasmom · 12/05/2009 15:07

My DH middle name is Bernard...think it is quite funny as I say it american and it sounds awful. He says it though with his sexy scottish accent and it sounds nice lol

My gma's name is Patricia so that is my middle name. My DD's middle name is my mom's name (michele) and we will be using my sisters name (addison) as this LO's middle name...

Still have not decided 100% on a first name either.

We had for a boy Cameron and some people suggested that for a girl too. I love that idea but people here think it is purely a boys name so I don't know...

Also there is the added pressure with the babies that have already been born on this thread having great names! I would feel very if I picked the first bad name lol

FiKelly · 12/05/2009 15:25

The naming malarkey would be far more amusing if it wasn't so hard to choose a name in the first place! My mother in law had suggestions for us too... i think jane was one of them and victoria the other... there was another but i've blocked it out! They were the names she'd picked out to use if she'd had a girl instead of the boys she did have. She knows we still like Rose and Grace... the girl names we didn't use when we had ds.

febes oooo fingers crossed!

Momino · 12/05/2009 15:32

EB'smom, oooh, I love sexy scottish accents! me, I still have the vague Ohio accent I arrived with 12 years ago. boring.

About cameron for a girl, a lot of people have told me they considered Harper mainly a boy's name but, since knowing it only from Harper Lee, I think of it as a girl's name. So it's your choice, really. I don't think you'll choose a bad name anyway .

OP posts:
FiKelly · 12/05/2009 15:45

victorian names... i've just done a google and found that both of our girl choices... Rose & Grace are considered victorian names lol! some of the other names made me like myrtle, mabel, gertude, herman & elmer [now wonders if i should be considering other maybe older names?!]

FiKelly · 12/05/2009 15:50

Right off outside into the sun for a short time... wind seems to have died down a bit and i've been promising ds he could plant his courgette seeds... back later x

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 12/05/2009 15:59

Febes oooooh keep us posted!!!1

Re Bernard - funnily enough Emmabemma, I was going to ask Momi if she pronounces it Ber-NARD in the US style or BER-nard (Burnurd) in the UK style? The 2 different pronunciations make it sound like 2 different names.

Elmer and Gertrude hmmmmmm. Mabel makes me think of Auntie Mabel on Come Outside, which we're just watching, funnily enough. We've been to the park, so I'm justifying a TV slump. Plus, I pushed DD2 on the swing for 10 minutes whilst needing a wee, so I am officially a great mum (at this moment in time).

Poor DD1 has had her 2nd day of SATs, she's exhausted!!

Jennster · 12/05/2009 17:22

Back from monitoring. Everything fine apparently. completely different trace to last time but with far less movements felt, but not a problem I'm told so I'm happy.

Names My MIL was suggesting some crackers via a friend of hers. I ended up asking if her friend was a little eccentric. Yes apparently.

Dorcas - runs a post office
Ursula - Headmistress of my infant school who was a nun and had a moustache
Bum, can't remember the rest and I've deleted the texts now.

Just had a look at the dc's names on a name website, and they are all/will be Hebrew, completely accidentally.

chocolatebunnies · 12/05/2009 18:12

Just to let you girls know that I think things maybe on the move here, been having 'pains' every 5 mins or so,for the last hour and half, only on one side though and bloody painful, they dont last very long, have a very heavy feeling in the ol' fanjo too . . . . . .

Belgianchocolates · 12/05/2009 18:12

Hi everyone,

I hope that all of you who had a sweep today will go into labour soon.

We've had our 1st night with a baby behind us and after a v. settled 1st day, we had a horrendous night. Baby C decided to wake up at 22.30 and didn't go back to sleep until 2.30. I couldn't work out what she wanted, not a feed, she kept pulling away, not being held, not being in bed with us, not being in her own cot, etc... In the end she did settle for some reason and slept until 7. Unfortunately I woke at 5 and didn't manage to go back to sleep. This morning I had a little power nap and felt much better for it. I hope tonight is going to be a bit better. Baby C has been a lot more unsettled in the day too. She seems to just cry out in her sleep for no reason for about 30 sec and then settle again. She seems to find it difficult to settle to sleep. I think it's all a matter of getting to know her and her own little personality. In the mean time it's a bit difficult, because I know I wont be able to sleep through those little cries she has. I hope she'll grow out of that soon as otherwise I'll be shattered. Other than that we're doing fine. She's taken to bf like a duck to water and I've discovered the joys of Lansinoh, which didn't exist yet when my ds and dd1 were born. It's great stuff and all bf'ers need to get some!

Baby naming is difficult isn't it. We couldn't think of anything and dh was so convinced of it being a boy that he wouldn't even discuss girl's names when I was pregnant! So in the end the shortlist was decided by dd and we chose what we chose for no good reason really. It still feels funny to call her Claire and so half the time we're still talking about 'the baby'

I've put a pic of baby C on my f/b profile. I'll put some more on there later on and on our secret f/b page too for those of you who aren't my friends yet

Belgianchocolates · 12/05/2009 18:15

ooh, chocbunnies how exciting. I do hope it's the real thing. That would make up for the bad start of your day . Oh and your washing machine was good news, at least it was fixable, a whole new one would have been a lot more expensive

frazzledoldbag · 12/05/2009 18:15

Right, so, don't want to get too excited (yet) but had my sweep at 3pm and it didn't hurt a bit! Midwife said it was 'very easy' to do, LO head is quite low as she had a feel all round it and I'm 2 cm dilated but she could stretch it to 3cm or slightly more. Haven't had a show or anything but am having some fairly seriously strong contractions and pressure in my fanjo/bum area at the mo.
DH just phoned MIL to alert her to the possibility that she might be sleeping here tonight and she's been at the gin all afternoon. Apparently she's off to make herself a coffee now! She also apparently asked if DH could take the kids to her in the night if required - he said 'ahem, no, we'll get you a taxi over here if it comes to that'. Honestly, packing up school bags, nursery bags, gym kit, packed lunch boxes plus 2 sleepy kids in the middle of the night.....is she for real>

Anyway will report back later - hope it isn't a false alarm!

Belgianchocolates · 12/05/2009 18:19

frazzled sounds exciting too. Sounds like you had a good sweep

frazzledoldbag · 12/05/2009 18:20

Cross posted with choco - ooooh exciting. Race you!
My pain is a bit one sided too - more on the right than left. Not sure if that is good or not...........
Actually am not sure what to do with myself. Shall I bounce on my ball? Or stay kneeling over the side of the bed where I am currently marooned.........and I haven't finished all the ironing yet - aargh

Belgianchocolates · 12/05/2009 18:27

frazzled Do what you feel most comfortable doing. All that talk about you nesting earlier made me think that you would follow very very soon. at your MIL

frazzledoldbag · 12/05/2009 18:49

Thanks belgian - am off to look at facebook in a minute for a sneaky peak at Claire (love the name BTW). Sorry you had a rough first night - my girls were both a nightmare for the first few nights until my milk came in and/or until they worked out where they were and what on earth had hit them! I always think newborns probably have a bit of a headache for the first few days although I'm not basing that on anything other than my experience of irritable little ones. Anyway hope she settles better tonight. Glad the B/F is going well, at least that's one less thing to worry over.

Still feeling quite sore but is manageable. Just had a little bit of show when I went to the loo so hoping that means things will keep on going and not stop (I may cry if it all fizzles out!)

emmabemmasmom · 12/05/2009 19:04

Just checking in and want to say good luck to choco and frazzle!!! Hope this is it for you guys!! Can't wait for updates

Names are very hard. There are names you like, but would never actually call your child that. When DD was born we were not sure either, but as soon as I looked at her I knew it had to be Emma. Don't know why...

DD started saying 'Hi there' to my bump which is soooo cute! When she says it though it sounds like 'Heidi'...so we thought hey how cute would it be to say DD named her! However, not quite sold on Heidi grrrrr lol

Best suggestion I got from my FIL was Eman and heika...umm yeah. This is from the guy who didn't like 'emma' so called her 'amy' for the first month of her life...gee thanks!

frazzledoldbag · 12/05/2009 19:07

sausage Martha is lovely I think - was one of DH's fave's if this LO was a girl. Prob would have been a middle name at least - very pretty.
daizydoo sorry to hear your lo has lost over 10% birthweight. My DD2 lost a lot too when she was a few days old and was all fine in the end. Seems to happen quite a lot IME of friends babies etc. and they are all fine. Chin up honey and try not to worry. x x x

emmabemmasmom · 12/05/2009 19:13

BABY ALERT PulaPula sent me a text. She had a baby boy, Samuel James, born today at 4:12 weighing 8lbs 2oz. Both doing well, and he has really good lungs!

Don't know if she told anyone else on here, but thought I would post anyway

FiKelly · 12/05/2009 19:18

ooo chocolatebunnies and frazzle exciting!

I'm getting less achey in back/bum but getting more downwards pressure and trying too work out if tummy discomfort is baby moving awkwardly or braxton hicks? for last few weeks I've been able to see baby move as my belly looked like it had an alien.. but this feels different, when I get the twangs my tummy is not doing an alien and when I put my hands on my tummy I can't feel any movement from the outside .. just feeling something inside. worse when I'm upright and walking but eases if I sit down.. very weird! I do think there's a possibility things are maybe gearing up?!
