Wow, can't believe I'm posting this, hope I'm not jinxing it but sooooooooo excited. Just found I'm due on January 1st. OMG!

OP posts:

VivClicquot · 03/06/2009 11:13

Londonlottie That makes sense. Like I say, I'm v relaxed about being due a bit later on - it still means I'm probably going to have to can my wedding dress but it means I won't be as far on for the honeymoon.

beanieb · 03/06/2009 11:36

Welcome somewhathorrified you have a brilliant name and have managed to sum up how I feel a lot of the time. Am assuming this is yout first too - if not then I'd be worried

ampster · 03/06/2009 11:38

hello everyone!

skidoodle hope your boobs don't explode. glad the quitting is going well. my boobs are definitely not hurting as much as they did when pregnant with DS. shooting pains sometimes but that's it. i suppose when you're first pregnant you're getting ready to lactate but if you're already BF then all that work is done!

the coat arrived this morning and it is horrible! that will teach me to get overexcited. it's going straight back to isabella oliver! it is a size too big as well because that was all they had in the sale, so it's probably not their fault it looks so awful...

crossing fingers for you nervoussara. hope all is ok.

marmitemonster it seems that loads of people consider midwifery after their first child! i'm such a cliche. good luck with the medicine... i wonder what it is about childbearing that makes people reconsider their careers? i guess it's just the time off. plus you want to set an example to your child of not hating your life or being a total wage slave. though right now i'd be happy for anything, boring copywriting work or not!

glad you're sticking with us londonlottie!

good luck to everyone getting a scan this week. i'm not getting one till july, 12 weeks exactly. am sure it'll be twins because of enormo-stomach, but my boyfriend keeps telling me it's a food baby.

Hello everyone! I would like to join as well. I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago for the first time. I'm now 6wk5d. We were trying for nearly two years and I was booked in to begin IVF literally the following cycle so it's a bit of a miracle (I have endometriosis and there were also doubts about one tube from a fertility scan). I am going in an hour for a private early scan to check not ectopic (I am worried about the dodgy tube). Fingers crossed.
I have quite strong symptoms, feeling sick a lot (though I have only thrown up twice so far), boobs are agony and am finding it impossible to concentrate on anything else!

After 6.5 years together, my partner and I got married last month. I actually think we conceived on our wedding day, probably because we were so happy and relaxed!
I'm due on 23rd Jan so I have copied in the latest list I could find on the thread, and added myself.

Hi everyone and welcome to Biccy, noodlesforbreakfast and somewhathorrified.

I have had great news this morning as my scan appointment letter has come through. It's on the 16th which feels really close as am on holiday next week which will help time go a bit faster. Even if the weather forecast is predicting rain nearly all week.

I probably wouldn't mind being put back a bit date wise. On the one hand if I stay where I am, I may get a new years day baby which will be nice. On the other hand, the later baby is due means the closer it will be to being born on my birthday. Realistically though, I have sinking feeling that squid (nickname for baby/bump) will be born as close to christmas as possible.

I am another one who utterly detests dislikes my job. Cant do much about it though as I don't want to lose out on maternity pay etc. I think I will definately be looking at a career change while on mat leave. I have already told everyone I know including my manager so they know why my breaks have shot up.

Hope you are all ok today and there are no problems symptom wise. Good luck to all that have scans coming up.

alibobins · 03/06/2009 13:18

Hi all
Well a bit dissapointed today had my first midwife appointment and was told I won't get a scan till I'm 15 weeks

beanieb · 03/06/2009 13:25

Welcome AutumnAir isn't it a great feeling to finally get that BFP! Good luck for the scan.

hope no one minds but I've tried to find all the recent arrivals and add them to the list.

If you're not there or I have the dates wrong can you update yourself? Hope I haven't missed anyone.

alibobins have they told you why!?

Hi all. Gosh there's a lot of people on here to try and keep up with!

Blocka - that is so weird, I also had a dream I was miscarrying last night, it felt really real. I am getting some sharp pains in my abdomen too, I'm pretty sure I remember that from dd, so I think it's ok! I seem to get a stitch really easily too.

Viv, all sounds perfectly reasonable that you will have ov'd later than 'normal' having just come off the pill - and I agree that those extra couple of weeks will be a bonus in Thailand.

autumnair, that is wonderful news! Congratulations.

spoke to a GP friend of mine, and when I told her I got a BFP 7 days before AF was due on a test for the day of AF she said 'well, either your dates are wrong or it's twins'. I was using OPKs... my dates are not wrong.... hmm...

coffeeicecream · 03/06/2009 13:39

Sorry to be so techno hopeless but cant seem to add my details. I am due 24 th now, dated from my scan yesterdy.

Thanks Biccy and anniemac.

Craving coffee ice cream now any one else having strong ones?

Biccy · 03/06/2009 13:52

Crystallised ginger (less of a craving really than knowing that ginger is good for sickness and that the strong lingering after taste may be preferable to the dry mouthed hunger over type feeling)... they've got 400 gram bags for £1.74 in Julian Graves at the moment (which is cheaper than their 200 gram bag).

Blocka · 03/06/2009 14:26

i've just confided in a work mate that I am pg, and she said she thought I was because of my eating habits?!?!?!

What the hell does that mean?? I am eating no differently (well, okay, maybe twice as much but it is the same things!!). I was so shocked she said it I couldn't ask her what she meant!!!

So much for worrying about my pot belly giving the game away, it was actually my biscuit habit!! Let that be a lesson for us all! xx

Pepa · 03/06/2009 15:23

Blocka I think the sharp pains are pretty routine AFAIK it is your ligaments "giving way" a little at a time. I've had them in all my pregancies. Even so though every time I feel it I do get a little worried - just because we are all so super paranoid at this stage!

bluespix77 · 03/06/2009 15:31

Talking about being super paranoid, I'm feeling quite sick today. But I can't work out whether its due to being pregnant or worrying sick about our scan on Friday morning! I did book the earliest scan,(8.10am) DH not happy (thought he could get a lie in!), but it will put me out of misery as quickly as possible!

Sersi · 03/06/2009 17:16

Hi everyone,

Haven't been on here for ages - finding it impossible to keep up with all you lovely ladies!

Just wanted to ask a question. Had my booking in appointment this week with my midwife. Firstly I was pleasantly shocked to discover I am not classed as an older mum despite being 39 (well chuffed about that one). She said you had to be over 40. Anwyay, she has advised that I think very seriously about a home birth. I have 2 lovely boys who I had at a midwife only birthing unit attached to Watford General hosp - I found it to be a really great place. HOwever, both were pretty quick labours, my 2nd son being recorded as 28 minutes. I now live at least (without traffic) a half hours drive from Watford so am a little nervous about using it. I am closer (15-20 mins without traffic) to Stoke Maderville but she tells me that the birthing unit there is not as good, also, is worried that I may not make it and may have said baby half way up the A41. She really seemed to want me to do a home birth but I'm not sure (like the idea but a bit worried about risks) and DH is terrified by the prospect and thinks I should be in a hospital.

Anyway - to get to the point (eventually), anybody have any experience of either Stoke Manderville or home births? What do you think? I found it a bit odd that she should express such a strong opinion as to where I ought to give birth.

Pepa · 03/06/2009 17:26

Sersi I've had two homebirths and would highly reccomend the experience, its just so relaxed and personal. Theres lots of stories on MN about homebirths and
www.homebirth.org.uk/
is a great reference site if you are considering a homebirth. What are your specific concerns about a HB?

dal21 · 03/06/2009 17:27

Hello everyone!
Heaps of posts! Love that this thread is getting so busy!

Welcome to all the newcomers.

Marmite - am hoping that your first day back went well.

Vivcliquot - great news on the scan! am sure everything will be fine.

Was it nervoussara who also had one today? Am trying to remember.

Re. the EDD. My GP and obs took the date of OV that I gave them (I was temping) and have very long cycles - but the scan measurements put me 4 days back from where I thought I was based on that. In the scan they took the size of the sac and my lovely blob and based it on that. Although they stressed that at this stage it can be a week out, so when I go for the 12 week scan it is entirely possible that I get moved on a little again. That is when dating becomes more accurate. So could that be explanation for why dates are currently getting shifted around?

Sorry havent replied to everyone, but sooo many have posted today!

This might sound like an odd question, but on the subject of Home Births...did anyone feel a bit exposed what with the yelling and screaming side of things? I really want a home birth (phobic of hospitals) but am a bit paranoid about our thin walls. Any advice anyone?

sazlocks · 03/06/2009 17:56

Evening all - fab that the thread is so busy but hard to keep track of everyone properly
congrats and welcome to new BFPs
vivcliquot glad things went well for you today
nervoussara hope things went ok for you
marmite hope you got on ok at work and nobody guessed
Back in work today and realised that the cure for all day nausea is to keep eating (yay !). Although on the down side I was already heavier than I wanted to be when I got pregnant but needs must at the moment
somehwathorrified liking your name by the way ! I did a hypnobirthing course with my first and as part of that saw a number of home births on video as we were planning one. They looked amazing - mostly calm and peaceful.
Hoping to be able to stay awake long enough to watch the apprentice tonight ( am I sad or what !)

sleepingalot · 03/06/2009 18:05

Good to hear scans have gone well.

On the subject of pains...I've been having some lower abdominal pains similar to period pains. Didn't realise there were so many pleasant symptoms... constipation, wind etc that all contribute to this... Everything I've read says this is normal .

bluespix77
Hope Fri comes around quickly for you. And your not feeling sick for too long!

Am not getting 'morning sickness' just sudden retching when I come across a strong unpleasant smells. I went shopping today and came home with only half the things on my list because there was a man shopping who had really bad BO and he came & stood next to me and I retched really loudly! He gave me a odd look and walked away. Consequently I had to avoid whatever aisle he was in...beans on toast for tea then.
